Morning all,

So sorry for the late start to the month. I had to take a load of work meetings yesterday about impending lockdown and furlough and just totally forgot to set it up!

Welcome to our monthly "lose 7lbs" thread. October lost me a bit with the purchase of new scales which are weighing me a lot heavier! I got DD to weigh on them and they are weighing her about half a stone heavier too so I'm relieved its not just me. Will take it as this months start weight and just hope that they start dropping soon!!

Link to previous thread here if anyone wants to catch up! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight_loss_chat/4038204-Lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month-The-October-edition-Oooh-spooky

All are welcome whether you are a newbie or a long time follower. There is a great mix of weight loss methods and diets and tons of good advice on here :) We all support each other and celebrate our achievements together!

Good luck for November!!

Congratulations @DownUdderer!!! Amazing news and well done.

Quick question for those of you that calorie count, how do you do it with homemade meals do you work out each individual ingredient etc or guestimate based of what my fitness pal says? e.g if i'm making a lasagne I generally cook everything from scratch down to fresh tomatoes not a pre made sauce so would I have to add up calculate calories of the tomatos, carrots, beef, cheese, milk, pasta etc or is my fitness pal accurate enough that it knows roughly what it would be?

FatGirlShrinking · 27/11/2020 09:37

@foresttheout there is a section called ' my meals, recipes and foods' where you can build out any recipes you use, set how many servings that makes and log it.

I only really do this for something I will eat more than once, otherwise I just log it manually, so for example I made up a quick chilli the other day which was 500g beef mince, tin of tomatoes, onion and seasoning mix. When I logged it I logged 125g beef mince, 1/4 tin of tomatoes, 1/4 large onion and didn't log the seasoning as the whole pack was 15cals so didn't seem worth doing.

I have focused on cutting out pasta, potatoes, white bread and rice, I eat mostly protein if I can, and veggies, so I haven't bothered looking into calories. I've had a lot of eggs! They're easy and filling!

DownUdderer · 27/11/2020 10:13

I meant to add, thanks for the congratulations. I've not told anyone in real life. I've not wanted to become a diet bore! But coming here has really helped me no end.

foresttheout · 27/11/2020 10:48

@FatGirlShrinking thats really helpful, there's a few meals we eat most weeks and several at least once a month or more so I'll build those and log the random creations manually.
@DownUdderer I had eggs for lunch just now, need to eat more of them as they definitely fill me up. The foods you cut out are definitely big features in my diet we have a pasta based and a rice based meal for dinner once a week. I have been trying to reduce my portion of both but probably need to focus more on really having them as a side not the main feature. The difficult thing is they are both very cheap and good quality meat/protein alternatives are not so it battles with my other goal of reducing the food bill

cricketmum84 · 29/11/2020 09:39

Hey guys, thank you all for keeping the thread running so well in my absence. Unfortunately I had a huge dip in MH and just stopped engaging with anyone or anything. Feeling a bit brighter today though.

I will have a proper read through shortly but it's looking we have had some fantastic losses and achievements!

I've also hit my 7lbs for the month without really trying, just not had much of an appetite. December will need some harder work put into it though.

Tree is going up today so hoping the twinkly lights and a glass of baileys will cheer me up a little further!

@FatGirlShrinking I've lost a 2 month old horse plus the pizza 😂

Food wise I'm finding winter a bit easier this year which might be one of the only bonuses to come out of bloody 2020. No socialising, pubs all closed, no German Christmas market (sob), no parties.

Huge well done for hitting goal weight @DownUdderer

I know what you mean, I don't want to become 'that person' who's always going on about dieting on social media or phone calls. Will be a bit of a surprise to some people when I see them again though as haven't actually seen most of my friends since before March and I'm 3 stone less than I was. Hell by the time we come out of lockdown which i guess will be Easter time I could be 5 stone less than I was so I'll hopefully look like a very different person!

Quite looking forward to the first time I attend a work meeting in person and can show up in a nice smart size 14 outfit rather than the size 22 tent they've all been used to.

DownUdderer · 30/11/2020 02:03

Hello everyone. @fatgirlshrinking, I'm sure people will be surprised!

I'm sure your Christmas decorations and tree will cheer you up @cricketmum84.

I've had a hike today. We had a heat wave this weekend, it was so hot! We all stayed in and we're lazy. Even opening the front door was crazy. It's a bit like opening the oven door and the heat hits you in the face. Anyway it's just a case of focussing on when the heat is going away again, and last night was cool again. And today feels like winter! Cold and rain! I even felt shivery!!

Ardagusdubh · 30/11/2020 09:52

End of the month already 😱 I've been following along but not posting as I've just felt a bit shit.
Heaviest 15st 4
Start of Nov 12st 5.5
End of Nov 12st 2
I was 12st 0.8 on sat but think that wasn't real, hadn't weighed for about 2 weeks before so don't really know. Anyway, another 3.5 lbs down so happy enough with that. Not sure what December will hold, think I'd be happy with a sts.
Well done to everyone losing and keeping going Smile

JessJonesJumps · 30/11/2020 11:46

@DownUdderer congratulations! Star

@cricketmum84 I hope the tree and the Baileys helped. You have had so many difficulties this year. I think it's amazing you have been so present here and so motivated. Be gentle on yourself Flowers

My stats this month are:
Nov SW: 11.13.8
Nov EW: 11.10.8

I've lost 3lbs this month. I'm starting to realise that my cycle has a big impact on my weight. Being peri-menopausal means when I have a month where my cycle has disappeared, I'm going to put on weight. Then when my cycle kicks back in, I'll lose again. On that basis, Dec shouldn't be as bad . . . as long as I can resist too much cake/chocolate/gin Wink

Howmanysleepsnow · 01/12/2020 07:31

SW 9st 10lb
GW 9st 7lb
EW 9st 6.5lb

December goal STS

FatGirlShrinking · 01/12/2020 07:55

November SW 198lb
Lost 8lb, CW 190lb

My December goal is to lose 5lb.

JessJonesJumps · 02/12/2020 12:49

I couldn't see if we had a Dec thread yet. My target for Dec is to lose another 3lbs which will bring my total loss this year to 2 stone. I feel as though I'm stuck in groundhog day. This has been my same target since Sept.

DownUdderer · 03/12/2020 10:20

@JessJonesJumps, the last couple of pounds seem like the most difficult and stubborn! It's hard to stay focused at this time of year but I think consistency is key. Lots of days in a row of really sticking to plan. But honestly for the year, if you're down two stone that's fab.

I've been trying to expand my fussy children's culinary horizons. The last couple of weeks I've been trying out new recipes almost every night. I just got sick of feeling trapped by their fussiness. I've just jumped in and started cooking up things without focussing too much on who will like it! I've got three kids and so far I've had success. It's really made me happy! I think I had been making myself a lot of new or different meals while I had weightloss on my mind and it just opened my eyes a bit to trying to explore new things for us all to eat.

JessJonesJumps · 03/12/2020 10:44

Thanks @DownUdderer Flowers I can see a real difference when I look at photos from this time last year but ideally I still need to lose another stone Shock
That's great that your DCs reacted well to the new meals. I often find I get stuck in a rut but I started typing up and printing out my recipes so DS can take them with him when he leaves home he's only just started high school but he likes cooking so he was the one who suggested it! Which reminds me I need to order my turkey etc for Christmas. We usually go out for Christmas lunch but with all the changes this year, we decided to have it at home. Ooh we have Christmas smileys Xmas Grin

cricketmum84 · 04/12/2020 12:12

Is anyone able to take on hosting duties for December for me please?

I've just got too much going on with hospital appts and stress to really give it the headspace it needs xx

@cricketmum84 sending you lots of love Flowers You have carried all of us for months. Let us carry you now for a little while. I will not be as good or as inspiring a host as you but I'll start the Dec thread and then link it here.
