Morning all,

So sorry for the late start to the month. I had to take a load of work meetings yesterday about impending lockdown and furlough and just totally forgot to set it up!

Welcome to our monthly "lose 7lbs" thread. October lost me a bit with the purchase of new scales which are weighing me a lot heavier! I got DD to weigh on them and they are weighing her about half a stone heavier too so I'm relieved its not just me. Will take it as this months start weight and just hope that they start dropping soon!!

Link to previous thread here if anyone wants to catch up! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight_loss_chat/4038204-Lose-7lbs-3kg-per-month-The-October-edition-Oooh-spooky

All are welcome whether you are a newbie or a long time follower. There is a great mix of weight loss methods and diets and tons of good advice on here :) We all support each other and celebrate our achievements together!

Good luck for November!!

@FatGirlShrinking based on that I've lost a human brain this month so now I'm questioning if it was weight of my actual brain because either would make sense Grin

JessJonesJumps · 20/11/2020 17:40

@FatGirlShrinking those weight comparisons are hilarious Grin They're so random! I seem to have put on the equivalent of a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. It makes me wish I had eaten them!

Ecci · 20/11/2020 19:19

@FatGirlShrinking. Loving these weight comparisons. I've lost the equivalent of an elephant's penis! Blimey!!!

FatGirlShrinking · 20/11/2020 19:23

@ecci I'm nearly at elephants heart and looking forward to the day I can say I've lost an elephants penis in weight 😂

@JessJonesJumpsnot sure I'd have the willpower to say no to a Krispy Kreme to be honest, although I was good yesterday and when I was in Marks and Sparks I just bought YumNuts for DD and DH then watched them very closely asking if they were as nice as they looked while they ate them

@foresttheout I must admit to feeling a little brainless today, had to go out on site visits which necessitated 4 trains and lots of walking then dealing with idiots. Llllloooooooonnnnng day!

DownUdderer · 21/11/2020 09:34

I wore my new shorts today and couldn’t keep the smile off my face, I felt great!

DownUdderer · 23/11/2020 02:35

The thread has gone really quiet. I hope y'all are ok!

I've had a walk today, 7.5km, I really enjoyed it.

Yogurt for breakfast, banana for a snack. I'm making sausage rolls for dinner. I think I'll have one with some veggies.

FatGirlShrinking · 23/11/2020 08:01

Don't know about everyone else but I'm having a bit of a struggling the last couple of weeks, seem to have plateaued which is bloody annoying.

Also DDs school is like the hokey pokey, they're in, out, in, out, shake it all about Grin

They're off again today due to staff shortages in her bubble so another day of working while entertaining a 6 yr old and hoping that they'll find more staff before tomorrow.

JessJonesJumps · 23/11/2020 10:14

It was mini-JJJ's birthday so I have eaten cake and avoided the scales. I also finished the 30 Days of Yoga I'd been doing and haven't gelled as well with the new 30 Days I've just started.
Winter is so difficult. I think I might need to focus on damage limitation rather than trying to achieve anything else.

Shedtheload · 23/11/2020 11:32

I have been missing in action a bit. Am back on it now. Well done on all the losses and progress. I had a bit of a difficult couple of weeks and quite a bit of stress eating so I gained 3 lbs but am confident I can shift them pretty sharpish.
You’re so right that winter makes it harder. I have to force myself to go out for a walk when it’s cold and dark. Also, the temptation to reach for comfort food is so strong, especially with the misery of lockdown. Once I get these 3 lbs off I think I’m focusing on damage limitation too. Maybe a few days off at Christmas. Normally I eat until I feel sick then but maybe I could try to rein myself in somewhat!

DownUdderer · 23/11/2020 23:01

Nice to see you back @shedtheload, @jessjonesjumps and @fatgirlshrinking!

I think winter really is harder especially with lockdown and dark evenings. Also coats and jumpers and scarves hide a multitude of sins. I think maintaining is a good idea though! It’s a shame to undo the good work been done last month!

I’m going to have my yogurt in a minute for breakfast.

Howmanysleepsnow · 24/11/2020 08:01

I’ve been weighing in but not posting as I’m not sure this is the right place now I’m just trying to STS (seems to be working!) Is there a thread for that anywhere?

foresttheout · 24/11/2020 08:08

I have fallen off the wagon a bit r.e dieting but am really focusing on the exercise so getting fitter if not thinner. Life here recently went back to pretty normal with regards to restrictions being lifted and i'm finding every weekend ends up being a trip away or someone throwing a bbq to catch up etc. Its lovely and has helped my mental health hugely but its not helping the waist line particularly as theirs a big drinking culture and I am known for enjoying a wine or ten

Shedtheload · 24/11/2020 08:13

@Howmanysleepsnow you’re welcome on here for STS too. After all, they say that maintaining is harder than losing and I think there is some truth to that. I was definitely more motivated and focused when I was still in major weight loss mode. I find that forcing myself to step on the scales regularly helps. I never did that before and just let my weight creep up and up.

Howmanysleepsnow · 24/11/2020 09:15

@Shedtheload I definitely agree about weighing in regularly. I’m still doing it daily. My original goal weight was 9st 7lb and I’m mostly hovering around 9st 6lb. If I hit 9st 8lb I eat more carefully until I’m back.
I’m finding it hard to let go of weight loss habits though and I’m still logging calories/ having to fight guilt over carbs which I’m trying to gently reintroduce. Interestingly it seems I can now eat 1500 calories a day without gaining where previously I gained at 1150 upwards. I’m hoping that’s permanent!

DownUdderer · 24/11/2020 10:24

I walked around the block this evening and did 3.95km. it felt good to get out and clear my head!

FatGirlShrinking · 25/11/2020 07:30

Loss this month - 6 lb
Total loss since starting - 41 lb

Shedtheload · 25/11/2020 08:26

@FatGirlShrinking that’s amazing! Congratulations on losing so much. Just a pound away from being 3 stone down!

Howmanysleepsnow · 25/11/2020 08:30

Well done @FatGirlShrinking

DownUdderer · 25/11/2020 10:18

You're doing great @fatgirlshrinking !

foresttheout · 26/11/2020 07:20

Thats amazing @FatGirlShrinking
I'm trying to get back on the wagon for a few weeks as I know Christmas will be food filled. Have done 16-8 again successfully this week and am banning myself from endless baking which is my downfall. DP has been informed I will now only be making pudding/cake etc. once a week maximum. Might look for some healthier/low sugar recipes as I do enjoy baking but I can't be trusted not to eat huge portions of what I make and currently I can't bake and then palm most of the goods off to friends.

Shedtheload · 26/11/2020 08:17

I’m the same @foresttheout. I end up eating everything I bake so it’s risky business for me!

FatGirlShrinking · 26/11/2020 09:24

Thanks guys!

Really determined to get to 190lb by next week, that will get me just past the 3 stone lost point.

Trying to think through Xmas and how to handle it. I very much do not want to do full out crazy, eat all the mint matchsticks and work my way through 2 tins of chocolate, all the pork pies and a half dozen doorstep leftover sandwiches, but I also don't want to feel like I'm depriving myself and being miserable.

I need to get my thinking right so that I can accept a small gain over Xmas week and not see it as a failure that makes me ditch the diet altogether. Historically if I 'fail' I give up and I'm very much trying to rewire my brain to look at it as a temporary blip not the end of the world 😆

Howmanysleepsnow · 26/11/2020 11:03

@FatGirlShrinking I’m on the Christmas food already! I’m at a similar overall loss to you (but at goal weight so trying to stay the same) and my metabolism seems to have reset so I now maintain at 1500 calories (used to be 1150).
I’m tracking my Christmas sandwiches, mince pies and quality street so I’m having them in place of a meal/ having much lower calorie meals to balance them out. It seems to be working (somehow lost 1lb this week despite increased intake!) and I’m limiting myself to smaller quantities as I’m tracking calories so am more aware of what I put in my mouth!

DownUdderer · 26/11/2020 20:58

I've reached my goal weight. I'm very happy. I will carry on weighing myself to just get an idea of how much to eat to maintain.

foresttheout · 27/11/2020 05:59

congrats @DownUdderer thats brilliant
I had a bit of a melt down yesterday after seeing some pictures a friend took recently. I hardly recognized myself my face seems to be holding all the excess weight. Tempted to stick the picture on the fridge or something as a motivator but that would probably just depress me each day.
Trying to stick to 16-8 but have been waking up really hungry this week which is unusual as I have never been a big breakfast eater. Perhaps calorie counting would work better for me but I know I am terrible at calorie counting and also it scares me a little as despite now being overweight I was a borderline anorexic teenager with a calorie counting obsession.
