Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?

PrincessConsuelaBH · 12/10/2020 21:09

So I have approx. 15lbs to lose to get back to my comfortable weight and for my clothes to fit! Thanks to lockdown and a toddler that still doesn't sleep meaning I rely on sugar to get me through the day...

I'm aiming to break it up into 3 5lb mini goals so I don't feel like it's unmanageable before I ever start Grin

Nothing faddy, just planning to make better choices with my food, plan more, and move more too. I have some short-ish term goals that I'm hoping will be enough motivation for me to shift the weight 👶🏻

Anyone want to join? I'd be happy to keep a list going (if there's not too many of us!) to record our weights and losses if anyone would want that too.
@RainingBatsAndFrogs I find the best way to lose it from my middle is cutting down on carbs (fewer portions and better choices, eg sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes). Hopefully as you continue to lose weight you will notice it goes from your mid-section Smile
Yes I agree with this-the longer you lose weight for the more it comes off everywhere. It sounds like you’ve made a great start.

I find carbs hard to estimate so I always measure pasta and rice.

HaggisBurger · 20/10/2020 08:53

Sorry to be late - we’re away. I gained 2lb 😭😭😭 but period due so might be that. Bugger

momo3w · 20/10/2020 09:13

@RainingBatsAndFrogs I think you’ll find with time and consistency you’ll get there! Great effort, it isn’t easy. Everyone has a stubborn spot that’s the last place to lose weight I reckon - mine is bum/thighs. Use it if it motivates you but don’t get too caught up on BMI. At my fittest/strongest I was still classed as ‘overweight’ which was absolute nonsense. Keep at it! 💪🏼

Ingridla · 20/10/2020 09:41

Apologies for lateness. I've lost nothing Confused Still 10'4. I'm going to do at least 15 minutes a day on the exercise bike this week & see how I fare as I've been pretty good with eating sensibly.

swampytiggaa · 20/10/2020 09:49

Fasting is going well 🙂 eating reasonably well in my window... not worrying too much tbh for now.

Did a 4.5 mile run last night and just done 5 miles this morning. I run lots but eat lots too 😂😂

Currently signed up for a Lands End John O’Groats challenge 🙂 I have a year to do 874 miles and I want to run it all. 3.5 months in and 300 miles down 🙂 keeps me motivated to get out 👍🏻

BrimfulOfBaba · 20/10/2020 13:32

Feeling much better after working out yesterday and sticking to plan!

Today's food:
B: The last of the lemon curd yoghurt (by The Collective, sooo good) and 30g Lizi's granola (270 cals)
L: Pasta salad - 100g cooked pasta, chopped salad bits including olives, dressing made of pesto and Greek yoghurt mix (566 cals)
D: Chickpea and potato curry, 90g wholegrain rice (529 cals)

That's 1,365 total and aiming to burn at least 200 on the cross trainer and 100 doing an arms circuit.

Put all this week's workouts in my diary and feeling a lot better about this week.

@swampytiggaa wow go you! Smile You should be very proud of yourself! I got quite into rubbing at one point - nowhere near what you're doing but a 30 min job a few times a week. I should get back to it really to torch some calories.

@BrimfulOfBaba that all sounds delicious! I'm impressed with your dedication to weighting your food too. I don't think I'm doing too badly but if I don't have a loss this week then I'll do that too.

So far today I've had...

B: small portion of fruit and fibre with whole milk and some added chopped apple
L: 2 hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, hummus, half a whole grain thin, 6 cucumber sticks and 6 cherry tomatoes.

Later will be having some homemade sweet potato and roasted red pepper soup (first time I've made it and daren't do a taste test - I'm not much of a cook!) and some bread rolls (I'll leave the majority of the bread for DH but will partake a little!)

@PrincessConsuelaBH yes get back to the running! I am very slow but I love being out with my friends 🙂 I lead a group with running club now which is lovely 😊 model ourselves on the teletubbies 😂😂 but we plod on and achieve what we want to do. 2 of our group ran the virtual London marathon the other week 🙂 I’ve only done up to half distance but a marathon is happening next year 🙂

PrincessConsuelaBH · 20/10/2020 19:14

@swampytiggaa My God I really need to start proof reading! I obviously meant I got into running, NOT rubbing Grin also jog, not job.

You actually inspired me - I jogged tonight! Was only 16 mins according to my watch, a few laps round my block. But it's 16 minutes more than I've done all year so it's a start.

I can imagine it's great motivation being part of a group Smile

I am a keen runner.. But very slow..
When I don't feel. Like going out I tell myself I will just do short loop.. And my mantra is "some is better than none"
Often you can persuade yourself to do a little bit more once you have started.. So your 16 mins was great... Some definitely better than none

dudsville · 20/10/2020 21:05

What a supportive, lovely group! It's helping motivate me and I'm doing well with food in both quality and intake. I wish I had an exercise bike or treadmill.

Do you know that study with children, putting a sweet in front of them saying that if they can wait they'll get more, and then leaving them alone to manage temptation? I've not described it well, but my OH offered me a chocolate today and I said no thanks and he put the box NEXT TO ME! I just sat there next to the box enjoying the newly found willpower. I'm doing the same throughout the day - I've decided that I can feel a little hungry and not keel over.

swampytiggaa · 20/10/2020 21:32

This is me and 3 of my running buddies at the start and end of our half marathon in March 🙂 took us ages 😂😂 but we laughed all the way round and supported each other. Then we got pissed and ate burgers 😂😂

I’m so impressed! Also found the rubbing typo so hilarious! 🤣

I got out for 3 runs two weeks ago, didn’t wet myself and didn’t prolapse so was very impressed 🤪 but the next week eeeeeverything ached - ankles, knees, hands even! I love running for clearing my head and the burrrrn but it definitely takes its toll on my body. We are looking in to hiring a rowing machine, anyone used one with good results?

PrincessConsuelaBH · 21/10/2020 08:17

@dudsville very well done on avoiding the temptation! It's so hard when it's right there! Just keep your eyes on the end goal Smile
I've put no sweet treats on our shopping this week - I quite like baking and DH and I have agreed that if we really want something sweet on an evening I'll quickly rustle something up!

@swampytiggaa that sounds amazing! Would you do it again?

@momo3w well done Smile I'm usually the same with running, any more than a couple of times a week and my knees huuurt!
I've never used a rowing machine much, used to avoid it at the gym Grin DH and I did have an exercise bike last year that got daily use before it broke, low impact too.

Just done 5 miles around the park 🙂 leading a running group this evening so a few more miles then 🙂

I’ve done 4 official half marathons so far and probably the same as non official 🙂 loads of 10ks and quite a few 10 milers.

Only took up running about 5 years ago - always hated sport at school.

NibbleQueen · 21/10/2020 09:40

I want to join! I lost 10lbs on the BSD diet and regained it all after my house purchase fell through 😑

Currently 10st3ish, I am comfortable around 9st10. With lockdown I've been finding it hard to cut out alcohol which is how I normally lose weight!

Reckon I could get down to 9st10 in 2 weeks with the following plan:
B - 2 eggs + veg
L - veg soup
S - fruit
D - something modest, around 400cals plus a bit of choc for pud

I find the weekends hard though, especially as there's little else to look forward to other than food and drink. If I aim for 1000cals 5 days a week and allow 2000cals twice a week it kind of evens out to 1200 and hopefully will lose some weight

swampytiggaa · 21/10/2020 09:41

Me making an actual tit of myself running a half for Coppafeel 💕

Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?
BrimfulOfBaba · 21/10/2020 10:17

Ahh @swampytiggaa you are so inspiring! You're making me want to run despite me being a lazy sod with gammy knees!

@NibbleQueen, the lockdown alcohol intake has also been my undoing! Trying to only have a couple glasses max on Fridays and Saturdays atm...doesn't always go to plan!

NibbleQueen · 21/10/2020 10:28

@BrimfulOfBaba I definitely comfort drink and also I really enjoy drinking wine. My trick is not to have it in the house but yesterday I fancied a glass and ordered a couple of bottles from Majestic via deliveroo Blush drank probably 3/4 of a bottle... So maybe I'll just delegate 1-2 other drinking days this week and yes try to limit it to a few glasses

Just looking back through the thread, noted to weigh in on Monday. I haven't weighed myself in a couple of weeks but my spare tyre is expanding so I may have underestimated my starting weight...

BrimfulOfBaba · 21/10/2020 13:58

@NibbleQueen I hadn't realised Majestic were on Deliveroo, very dangerous knowledge for me Grin!

I have been eating so much better this week than last week, and trying to at least make sure I get 10,000 steps in a day/doing 45 mins on the crosstrainer. Already starting to feel the damage from last week's laziness/terrible food ease away - my mood is a lot better, too.

Brekkie was: 150g strawberry Skyr, 30g Lizi granola and 30g blueberries. I loved the lemon curd yoghurt, but MyFitnessPal let me know I wasn't getting enough protein in at all. The Skyr is really good for calories and protein and keeps me full - the flavours just aren't very exciting!

Lunch was: a lentil, roast veg, spinach and beetroot salad with 30g feta and olive oil/balsamic. This was surprisingly delicious! Roasted the veg in yummy spices, garlic and balsamic.

Dinner will be: a chickpea, aubergine, butternut, courgette and pepper tagine with giant couscous. Maybe some flaked almonds if I feel fancy.

Doing a HIIT workout and spending some time on the crosstrainer in the eve...hopefully.

NibbleQueen · 21/10/2020 14:19

@BrimfulOfBaba if you like that lemon curd yoghurt you could always get plain skyr/greek yog and add your own curd. Ocado stock Scarlett & Mustard curds and they are delicious! They do a lime and mint one that is like eating a mojito.

I've not had the best day today due to the majestic delivery last night Confused have had mushroom omlette on toast, a naked bar, cauliflower soup and a bit of dark choc. Will have a bit of fruit shortly and dinner is chicken kiev + broccoli, so it's been quite a snacky/processed day

BrimfulOfBaba · 21/10/2020 15:49

@NibbleQueen that's genuinely blown my mind. Adding curd to the shopping list now!

I'm no nutritionist but your meals today sound lovely and balanced. Even your snacks are nutritious. Big woop!

dudsville · 21/10/2020 15:50

nibble what veg do you do with your eggs?
My diet is crazy today. I couldn't sleep last night so in the curse of a long dull night I ate a pear, some hummus and a ryevita and another with peanut butter. Then thus morning I had fried eggs and toast, then for lunch a huge portion of noodles with baked salmon and veg. I'm going to try to be done eating for the day.

NibbleQueen · 21/10/2020 16:00

@dudsville depends what I've got. Usually mushrooms, spinach or tomatoes as I think of those as being the breakfasty vegetables. When I'm feeling more organised I might have a few containers of things like roast courgette or aubergine lying around.
