So I’m fed up of being fat, and it’s time to take action.
Lately my skin has been a mess and periods have stopped, I’ve had numerous tests and it looks like obesity is the cause 😩.
I am so embarrassed but fuck it.
I am currently 30, 5’4 and weigh 18 stone.
I’d like to get down to 10 stone eventually but even a stone or two would motivate me.
As of tomorrow no more shit!

Would anyone like to join?
Wether you have a lot (like me!) or a little to lose!

Having the right things to hand is key I think. I always falter when I don’t have anything to hand then eat a pack of crisps (or 4).

catchingzzzeds · 09/10/2020 07:40

I've cheated a bit this week, not eating treats but in portion size, for the first time since I started I've not lost anything this week.
It's a bit disheartening but I've come this far and I'd be really disappointed if I wobbled now so I need to get back on the straight and narrow.
I agree that it's important to have the right foods to hand.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 09/10/2020 11:50

@catchingzzzeds, well you’ve acknowledged it so can move forward. That’s half the battle.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 10/10/2020 15:27

I thought I'd been good this week but haven't lost anything.

I'm determined to stay on track tho.

I'm convinced one of my colleagues is trying to sabotage my weightless (please tell me if I sound crazy Grin )
She\s very overweight and for the past 20 years has been on s diet, everything from calorie counting to WW or SW. She eats a healthy lunch and will then eat a full packet of digestive biscuits later on and be surprised when she hasn't lost weight.
I hadn't mentioned being on a diet as in the past it has made me feel under pressure but this week a few people commented on the fact that I had lost weight - I replied (and it was part truth) that I'd cut out snacks and sugary things but (jokingly) said that some days I'd kill for a doughnut.
Next day she bought in doughnuts and I assumed she was just being kind - I didn't eat one which really annoyed her and she badgered me all day long to take one.
The next day she out loads of cheese and biscuits in the staffroom and mithered me to eat them. Again, when I didn't she was disproportionally annoyed!

Even if she isn't trying to fatten me up it's very annoying!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 10/10/2020 19:31

That’s really annoying. I can’t understand her need to do that since surely there were plenty of takers! FYI though I would totally have caved at the cheese.

My mum came over today I’ve eaten a lovely cottage pie - but I’ve def over indulged and I couldn’t do my exercise and she didn’t want to go for a walk after we’d already been to football matches. Back on it double time tomorrow.

catchingzzzeds · 10/10/2020 22:20

@RuudGullitOnAShed you don't sound crazy at all, very weird behaviour from your colleague I'd piss her off by sticking firmly to your plan. Shame you didn't lose anything either this week, I think it might be linked to my cycle as I came on today couldn't be the same for you?
@MercedesDeMonteChristo I hope you enjoyed the pie and yes back on it tomorrow.
I've got 4lbs to go to reach my 2 stone off goal and that is spurring me on. I saw family today for the first time in a while and they both noticed my weight loss so that was a boost too.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 11/10/2020 20:12

@catchingzzzeds I think it could be linked to my cycle - hopefully next week will be better

I've decided my colleague is a food saboteur - she emailed me earlier today to ask if staff could have a bake-off this week where everyone brings in homemade cake! She thought it was a great way for us to end this half term.
I've vetoed it on the grounds that in the current climate I don't think we should be sharing food. She's obviously annoyed as she replied that she had made fudge for everyone already ... so I told her I was sure her children and husband would enjoy it.

In a perverse way she has spurred me on - I'm determined to lose more just to annoy her!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 12/10/2020 12:54

Sooo.... I have acquired an exercise bike. This morning I completed my first 20 min spin type Les Mills class. And you know what, I can stand up on the bloody bike!! I was convinced I absolutely wouldn't be able to do the standing bits.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 12/10/2020 21:30

Well done @MercedesDeMonteChristo - that's brilliant.

I stood firm in the face of the diet-destroyer today.
She made me coffee with sugar (I never take sugar) and put a chocolate bar on my desk today but I didn't touch either!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 13/10/2020 07:16

Well done. Diet destroyer be gone!

Submariner · 13/10/2020 18:38

How odd Ruud. She definitely sounds jealous. But the sugar in coffee sounds odd - I wouldn't be pleased with sugar in my tea, it's like a whole different drink!

Exercise bike sounds exciting Mercedes! My 6 weeks at the gym ended but I have just paid for 5 days at a cheaper one and am trying to put some of the things I learned into play. It felt good to set my own plan this morning.

How have you got on this week catching?

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 13/10/2020 19:04

I've taken measurements this week too. This Les Mills lark is supposed to change my body - and if the before and after photos are anything to go by then I'm looking forward to that. Though there are a large number of people developing 6 packs which I do not want - but I suspect I will be pretty low intensity compared to them.

@Submariner your sugar comment made me laugh. I cannot shift the sugar in my tea and coffee which I why I am trying to cut down the amount I drink as it is such a waste of calories.

Submariner · 18/10/2020 08:02

How's the six pack going Mercedes? Wink This fitness lark is addictive, I bet you will be after the rippling abs once you start seeing progress, lol.

My diet (as in healthy eating, not a specific diet) has absolutely gone out the window. It started a few weeks ago when I stopped calorie counting, but this week has been my son's birthday and instead of a party we've had a series of playdates, which means a series of cakes, crisps, sweets. I am just not limiting myself!

I've also got a bit of that mindset I get when work and university are full on (which they are) that I just don't have the headspace to think about healthy eating. However I definitely lean too heavily on this.

I don't really want to go back to calorie counting at the moment, but plan for this week is: Back on the intermittent fasting, plan or prep my breakfasts and lunches as much as possible, back on two days a week of alcohol. Exercise has been going really well so keep up with my 3 "hard" gym sessions a week, keep on with yoga Sundays and try to add in a 3 mile run somewhere, possibly Saturday.

Submariner · 18/10/2020 08:11

@Alicatz66 How did your appointment go?

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 18/10/2020 08:13

Those still sound like good goals and I expect wouldn’t result in continues loss. Sometimes you have to mix it up and recognise that now isn’t the time for low carb/calorie counting/insert whatever method.

I’m doing ok. A pass by the scales says still losing but haven’t looked at the actual number.

Still enjoying the exercising and am now officially paying for Les Mills. My walking is going slower this month but I’m still on track to hit 125 miles.

I’ve decided that I am really going to try and tackle the sugar this week. Shaving down my two spoons in coffee and tea to one (then none). I can see this is a cold turkey thing really but I can’t face that right now.

What are you studying @Submariner (if it’s not outing) I’m also at uni (for the best part of the last 10 years actually).

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 18/10/2020 08:14

Oh yes.

catchingzzzeds · 18/10/2020 09:15

@RuudGullitOnAShed she must be driving you mad. You must have been tempted to throw the chocolate at her.
@Alicatz66 I was wondering about your appointment too?
@Submariner that sounds like a plan that could work, I hope you feel more in control next week. Well done on the gym!
@MercedesDeMonteChristo your dedication to your exercise routine is admirable, good for you

I've not been feeling great the last couple of weeks, just burnout I think as work has been full on but one week until half term and then I plan on collapsing and doing absolutely nothing.
I've managed to stay roughly on track though, one day I made home made pizza with my boys so I went over my calories then and I had a get together with my sisters Friday night so I enjoyed a bottle of wine and crisps. I'm happy with that though, life would be dull without the occasional treats.
I'm hoping to reach 2 stone off this week, fingers crossed.
I think of you all during the week and send you all positive vibes Smile

Submariner · 18/10/2020 09:55

Sounds like you're doing great Mercedes - glad you're enjoying the Les Mills. Good luck on the sugar! I think you're right it's just about getting over the hurdle. I love my tea without sugar now. Not so sure about coffee but I hardly drink it.
I'm doing a Master's in Disability Studies. Really interesting and I think this will be my last year of part time study. What are you doing?

Sorry you've not been feeling great catching. It sounds like your willpower has stuck around though! I agree, I am happy to go "off plan" to enjoy the social side of food and drink with loved ones. I feel like the hard work at other times makes up for it.

Alicatz66 · 18/10/2020 11:59

@catchingzzzeds ... Thank you ! .. pleased to report they did a 3D mammogram and an ultrasound.. reviewed 10 years of mammograms and told me all fine .. so relieved !!! ... No excuse now .. I need to
lose that stone . Going to borrow my neighbours dog today and do a long walk , then a bit of Joe Wicks .. going to try to eat in an 8 hour window this week between 12 and 8 .. I wouldn't like Intermittent Fasting to feel left out !! .. I've tried all the other fads !! .., has anyone had success with this ?

Alicatz66 · 18/10/2020 12:01

Thanks for thinking of me @Submariner ... all ok .., ! See below .. that's a month I don't want to go through again !!

catchingzzzeds · 18/10/2020 12:02

@Alicatz66 so relieved for you! I tried not eating until 11 but really lacked energy so I now have a banana at 8, cereal bar and fruit at 11, salad at 1 and then dinner before 6 and it works better for me.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 18/10/2020 12:39

@Alicatz66 what a relief. So pleased.

I have to eat when I get up otherwise I find my walk impossible and my blood sugar dips really quickly.

@Submariner that sounds fascinating. Tough with work too though. After years of part time study to get my degree and masters I am now 100% focussed on a history PhD. Hence how I can fit in all this exercise.

Submariner · 18/10/2020 13:02

So relieved Ali - if you look back over my posts on this thread I have had some success with IF, but I started veeery gradually as I was a first thing in the morning breakfaster as well as a late night snacker - such a bad combo. I have been off the wagon this week, but I find IF really helpful for setting up some good habits, and now find I'm not hungry until after my first meal of the day. I'm definitely snacking a lot less (apart from party week!!)

Ooh, Mercedes, how are you finding the PhD? I'm soooo tempted, but I also have an equal and opposite goal of working full-time after the Masters and finally earning some proper money/climbing in my career.... Hasn't stopped me signing up for a PhD open day in November!

RuudGullitOnAShed · 18/10/2020 14:02

Afternoon everyone!

@Alicatz66 That is fantastic news! And how lovely to have a goal to work towards now as you become lighter and fitter!

In a perverse way the Diet-Destroyer woman in work has strengthened my resolve! Despite lots of offers of cake an biscuits I stayed strong. I haven't lost anything this week ... but I haven't gained either so I'm happy with that.

We're on half term for two weeks now so I am planning lots of walks and preparation of delicious but sensible meals. It looks as if Wales will be going into some kind of lockdown in a week but I am lucky in that we live very rurally so am spoilt for choice with walks directly from the house.

Last night we have fish and chips to celebrate it being half term - first takeaway in ages and I couldn't finish it - previously I would clear my plate and have a desert. Overeating and large portions has always been my weakness so I was really pleased to leave some on my plate. Growing up my mum was fanatical about not wasting food and we always had to eat everything even if we were full and I am sure that has shaped the way I see food.
As @Submariner said it is all about setting up good habits.

Alicatz66 · 18/10/2020 14:32

Just did my Joe Wicks 7 minute abs .. it's a start !!
