So I’m fed up of being fat, and it’s time to take action.
Lately my skin has been a mess and periods have stopped, I’ve had numerous tests and it looks like obesity is the cause 😩.
I am so embarrassed but fuck it.
I am currently 30, 5’4 and weigh 18 stone.
I’d like to get down to 10 stone eventually but even a stone or two would motivate me.
As of tomorrow no more shit!

Would anyone like to join?
Wether you have a lot (like me!) or a little to lose!

Love the sound of your weekend meals @MercedesDeMonteChristo
Enjoy them!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 03/10/2020 18:23

Well, I;ve been looking into gym memberships and classes etc and have concluded I just don't want to pay £35 per month (student rate) and book it etc etc, so I have been looking at alternatives to add to my walking.

Rudd and Submariner (and anyone else still around). I have signed up to Les Mills On Demand. I think my body has left the building. I absolutely cannot manage anything that is floor based right now, but I have enjoyed it and am following the 6 week starter programme (assuming I make it past the 14 day trial).

RuudGullitOnAShed · 03/10/2020 19:54

@MercedesDeMonteChristo - I have to admit that I don't do gyms or organised exercise.
£35 a month seems a lot - I know I'd end up not going enough to make it worthwhile.

I think I'd be tempted to spend it on lovely healthy food (is it just me or is buying healthy food and cooking from scratch ridiculously expensive?)

Hope fully the on demand will work for you.

I do try and walk every day but I find it much harder in the winter as its often dark when I get home.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 03/10/2020 20:38

I'm very lucky that I have a lot of flexibility in my days in order to fit long walks in.

Submariner · 04/10/2020 07:19

Oh ladies you are all still being so good!!! I have had a really stressful week with work, youngest's class has been sent home from school, AF has arrived, it's raining, the house is a tip. I decided on about Tuesday that I was having the week off the diet and not feeling guilty about it. And boy have I used it! I have eaten so much food, but the gym sessions were already booked in so I have kept up with them.

Tomorrow it's back on the straight and narrow. Fasting from 7pm-11 (ish), walk every day, gym x3 and only 2 alcoholic days a week.

Mercedes what's Les Mills like? I've never tried it. If you want free but "proper" workouts I recommend Fitness Blender on YouTube, but I think I'm the opposite of Ruud, I like being locked into a plan/schedule because it gives me less excuses to skip a workout. Strangely I have found that I am using heavier weights at the gym this week. Possibly the upside to all the chocolate!!!

catchingzzzeds · 04/10/2020 08:11

Hi all, I've just caught up on your posts. I'm on my feet much of the day at work and also walk there and back so I'm lucky to be able to count that as part of my exercise, I also do a 15 minute workout that I found on YouTube.
My resolve began to slip yesterday so I need to work on my headspace today, I want to feel strong about it all again. I finally reached 12 something on the scales and I though that would spur me on Confused

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 04/10/2020 09:12

@Submariner I did the first workout in a 6 week plan and then thought I’d try a quick body combat too. I enjoyed the jumping, punching etc all the high impact cardio. But the floor stuff .... I basically cannot do it and by the time I get up they are off again. I’m sticking with it though until the trial finishes then will decide. I felt really good, properly worked out looking forward to the next one.

@catchingzzzeds well done on getting to the 12 stone bracket. It’s hard when motivation dips. I cleared out my wardrobe yesterday and only kept enough clothes to get me through and got rid of everything else. It’s helped me refocus after 4 packs of smoky bacon crisps and 4 clubs on top of my food yesterday. Would something like that help? Or do you have anything that you have grown out of since you started?

catchingzzzeds · 04/10/2020 09:22

Thank you @MercedesDeMonteChristo, the support on here is fab. I did just have to buy a couple of pairs of trousers for work as my old ones looked ridiculous! It was lovely buying a size 16, previously I'd been getting close to a 20.
I'm glad you're enjoying the work outs, it feels good to be doing something good for yourself doesn't it.

catchingzzzeds · 04/10/2020 09:24

@Submariner that sounds like a really tough week, write it off and start afresh. We need to be kind to ourselves.

catchingzzzeds · 04/10/2020 09:25

@RuudGullitOnAShed yes! My shopping bill has gone up around £15 a week, there's no way I could afford a gym as well.

catchingzzzeds · 04/10/2020 09:27

@Alicatz66 how are you doing? Your plan sounds great

Submariner · 04/10/2020 10:06

Thanks catching and congrats on the swishy new trousers. It's great when you see the difference in your body shape rather than just on the scales.

Mercedes I found that I had real strengths and weaknesses when I first started at the gym, but 5 weeks in there are things I can do now that I couldn't when I started. I think you're doing the right thing just keeping up as best you can, you'll be amazed how quickly you get on, I'm sure.

RuudGullitOnAShed · 04/10/2020 10:34

I’m starting to wonder if I should be thinking about gym or extra exercise now despite hating it so much (inspired by all of you)

Problem is I leave the house at 7am and some days I’m not home until 6-30pm and I usually have work to do in the evenings. I count it as a win if I join DH on the evening dog walk.

Well done on the loss @catchingzzzeds
@Submariner one of the things that has helped me this time is having the mindset that a bad day/days/week doesn’t mean I have to stop. I’m sure you’ll be back on track with food this week and the fact you’ve been going to the gym has surely off-set the chocolate 😂

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 04/10/2020 13:21

I don’t think you have to do any exercise etc unless you want to. You are doing so well anyway and I think it sounds nice just to get out with your DH and the dog.

I’ve never been an exerciser or enjoyed it so this is new for me. If I wasn’t enjoying it I don’t think I’d do it tbh, I would prob just crack on with my calorie counting.

Submariner · 04/10/2020 14:01

I agree with Mercedes, it sounds like you have a hectic week anyway and there's no point doing something you would resent. The best advice I could give if you wanted to add in some exercise would be to do something you enjoy as you'll be more likely to stick with it. I was surprised when I first discovered jogging, because I really enjoyed having half an hour to myself with my thoughts, and it wasn't competitive like so much else.

Alicatz66 · 04/10/2020 14:16

@catchingzzzeds ... well .. don't know where to start .. have lost 4lb but because I have upcoming appointment at breast clinic .. went for routine check after having very very early BC 10 years ago and a 1cm area has shown up that they want to look at further ... weight loss purely from stress !!! ... also doing sober October

Submariner · 04/10/2020 17:52

So sorry to hear you've had such a tough time Alicatz. Sending you well wishes with it all.

Alicatz66 · 04/10/2020 18:16

@Submariner .. thank you .. I'm always an over sharer !! Good to be on Mumsnet ... I'm doing Sober October and a ton of walking to keep the heebie jeebies to a manageable level !!

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 04/10/2020 18:41

@Alicatz66 that’s tough. We seem to be quite a small little group now so any time you want to vent please feel like you can here.

Submariner · 04/10/2020 19:04

I agree with Mercedes. Please do share if you want to. Flowers

RuudGullitOnAShed · 04/10/2020 20:44

@Alicatz66 - you poor thing.
Please do feel free to share or moan on here any time you want.

I hope the weather is kind and you get to do lots of walking.

catchingzzzeds · 04/10/2020 20:49

@Alicatz66 sorry to hear you're going through this, when is your appointment? I suffered the heebee jeebies myself a couple of weeks ago regarding a lump, it's a bloody awful wait.

Alicatz66 · 04/10/2020 21:06

Thank you all ... appointment not until 15th October ... x

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 08/10/2020 07:14

How are we doing? I’m in recovery from some Les Mills workouts. I can’t do a lot of it (like getting up and down from the floor) though I did an entire floor based workout and I don’t know if I will ever recover. I could walk to and from the library yesterday, I had to jump on the tube at 3 miles.

In other news, official weigh in puts me at 13.7 so exactly a stone and a half. I was hopeful for more but I have cheated a bit. I’m back to it though as I really want to hit 13.

Alicatz66 · 08/10/2020 08:01

I'm starting properly on Monday ... I'm too near the bread WFH !! I'm going to think ahead more and make salads the night before like I used to take to work ..
