Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Flippetydip · 18/05/2020 12:15

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm so late to this thread. Please can I join?

I'm 5' 7" and was 11 and 1/2 stone up until 2 weeks ago. I've been exercising like crazy, avoiding alcohol and snacks and the last few days have varied better 11 stone 4 and 11 stone 2. This sounds daft but I'm feeling a little scared. I've been doing a hiit everyday and running each alternate day. I don't feel I can keep this up and am worried the weight is going to sneak back on. I really want to get to somewhere between 10 stone and 10 and 1/2 stone. If I continue to lose weight until I reach my target weight, then eat a little more normal, will I stay at the target weight or start to put it all back on.

I've never really lost weight. Always been around the weight I am apart from wedding day.

My downfall is also around 5pm. Disgusted with myself- today I had 5 ginger nut biscuits and 6 liquorice allsorts before tea. I start snacking whilst I'm cooking the kids' tea. I like to wait and eat with hubby which is usually around 8pm ish

Any suggestions?

lorisparkle · 13/06/2020 10:07

I find the snacking whilst cooking tea is part of my problem too. Someone suggested a hot drink instead so I have been having a herbal tea whilst I cook. It has kind of worked!

Lurkingforawhile · 13/06/2020 10:50

@carrottopper I have a snacking during cooking problem too! 8pm would be really late for me to have dinner. What about splitting the meal in half so you have a small meal at say 5:30 and then another small meal with your OH at 8? I find the calories from snacking usually add up to that anyway, but mine are usually either just sugary snack or crisps!

I've decided 16:8 isn't for me - I've just been eating too much when I break the fast, and am too lightheaded to exercise without brekky. Back to the drawing board for me

carrottopper · 13/06/2020 11:30

@lorisparkle yes I've been drinking lots and lots of tea. It seems to help me snack less and avoided the sit down in front of the tv and eat all the chocolate problem.

@Lurkingforawhile great idea about having a small tea at 5ish and then something small with OH.

We are having a family Chinese tonightShock My children have had to go back to school this week as I am a key worker so we promised them a treat and that was their choice. What should I order?

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 13/06/2020 12:17

I haven’t been too chatty on here, hope you don’t mind me just checking in on weigh day.

10st 11.75lbs today, from 10st13 last week. I’m not really hitting my 2lbs a week target, but it’s coming off still. I haven’t felt too deprived so hopefully taking it steady will mean I stick with it.

annabell22 · 13/06/2020 14:33

@KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer it's a loss, so it's a win!

I'm just back from the gym and have over 18k steps today in total. I really hope my overall trend for this week is downwards. We are away the weekend after next (I'm not in the UK) and I'd like to feel that I can afford to relax a bit and enjoy the stay.

clevername · 13/06/2020 21:47

It's weird how up and down this whole weight loss thing is isn't it?

I'm feeling pretty buoyant today - I'm randomly 2lbs down from 2 days ago. MFP tells me I'm 57% of the way there. I worked out I've lost 10lbs in total since starting at the beginning of May. And I've got 7lbs to go to teach my target. So I'm celebrating with some wine. and possibly chocolate

I'm still not doing any exercise at all (apart from normal running around after the kids and general life stuff... I'm not just sitting in my arse all day!) and I'm now feeling more confident in that decision (after wavering a week or so ago). I have a feeling that if I was exercising meaningfully I would feel hungrier and more justified in eating more. So I'm resolved again to my slightly bizarre plan of only dieting to lose the weight and then, once I get there, starting to exercise to tone up what I've got left! I'll have more calorie allowance then because I'll be aiming to maintain rather than lose (I'm currently restricting to 1200 mostly with 2 fast days of 500). Fact is, I hate both dieting and exercise so I'd rather just do one of them at a time Smile.

clevername · 13/06/2020 21:49

Sorry, meant to say - @Plancina, sorry to hear you were feeling glum. Hope you're feeling a bit brighter now?

carrottopper · 14/06/2020 08:50

@clevername how do I find out how many calories I need to have to lose or maintain please?
I've stuck to 3 meals and no snacks. Managed it pretty well but had a take away last night and cornetto with 2 glasses of wine. Start again today

Plancina · 14/06/2020 09:15

@clevername thanks Flowers I’m okay, just worried about no period and frustrated with lack of weight loss. Did a pregnancy test and it was negative so not sure what’s going on. I’ve stuck to calories over the weekend but had wine and a mojito yesterday. No alcohol now until my birthday which is a week and a half away, going to keep exercising and cut my calories to 1500 to see if that makes a difference!

overweightcat · 14/06/2020 10:28

@carrottopper if you type in to google calorie maintenance calculator or something like that it will come up. I can't get a link working at the moment.

Ok official weigh in this morning and I swear I will stay off the scales until next Sunday! So I'm down from 68.5kg last week to 67.2kg I've hit the first stone marker along the way (from 74kg).
Most importantly I'm starting to feel and look a bit more like the pre DC me (well with some stretch marks and saggy areas but I'll take it Grin) which seemed unachievable once and is giving me a push to keep going and try and hit that target.

Going to put some face cream on as I look like a raccoon after a heavy night with this mornings eye bags and have my coffee. 1200cals is the aim today.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

PowerslidePanda · 14/06/2020 11:03

Well done to everyone who has lost!

Hope AF shows up for you soon @Plancina. At least the negative test meant you could enjoy your wine and mojito!

I worked out yesterday that I burn 350 fewer calories on a Saturday or Sunday versus a weekday, and I always have wine with dinner at the weekend - so that's a difference of 500 calories a day! Weekends are nice, but tough from a weight-loss perspective.

Lurkingforawhile · 14/06/2020 11:07

@carrottopper type on BMR and there are a few calcs including on MFP. I've just discovered that my OH needs 500 cals more than me, and I will remind myself of that with portion control!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 14/06/2020 12:11

Hello all, and congratulations to losers! I haven't weighed myself, and I'm going to stay off the scales for another week to give myself a chance to get back on track and not be demoralised by the numbers going in the wrong direction. I need to do a big shop for vegetables, salad stuff and lean meat so that I can quickly cobble together meals that are weight-loss friendly. This week I've fallen back on old favourites which everyone loves, but which don't aid The Project. Also, I've eaten birthday cake rather too freely this week, and fallen off the biscuit wagon (full disclosure, 7 biscuits). Sleeping rather badly, which probably isn't helping.

I think I"ve just hit a bit of a wall with shopping, cooking, clearing up from cooking this week. Every now and then I long for the life of a single lady when if I wanted to eat ready-made Caesar salad and cup-a-soup every night for fortnight, I could.

WagathaChristieDoesItAgain · 14/06/2020 16:00

Would love to join!

I have half a stone of lockdown weight to lose. Have started 16:8 yesterday.

Am 5ft 2 so one of those where every lb gain or loss shows. And I gain or lose it from my tummy always!

carrottopper · 14/06/2020 22:04

I've just stepped on the scales and 4lb heavier than yesterday morning. Confused

Lurkingforawhile · 14/06/2020 23:26

But that always happens at the end of the day @carrottopper - it's just normal from eating through the day. Wait for tomorrow morning instead

carrottopper · 15/06/2020 00:58

Oh really? Suppose it makes sense. I'm new to all this. Thanks

overweightcat · 15/06/2020 08:06

Yes @carrottopper always weigh yourself in the morning!

I tested this out on myself and could go from 67.2kg first thing in the morning to 68.8kg at about 9pm.
Set a weigh in day lets say Friday morning and only weigh yourself then every 7 days, it will give you the best idea of wether you lost anything.

molifly14 · 15/06/2020 08:22

Just joining, I'm 9 stone 9 and ideally need to be 8.5-9 stone. Trying first week with 800 calories a day for now to see how we go!

I feel like I've finally had the 'click' in your head that says enough is enough so hopefully this will work.

overweightcat · 15/06/2020 10:03

What did you use to work out your calorie intake @molifly14 ?

It seems very low, when using MFP I went for the max loss of 1kg a week as they don't recommend to go lower because its too drastic and that put me at 1200cals.
800 cals would have me lightheaded and probably very weak.

CalmConfident · 15/06/2020 12:19

Joining back in....after doing great starting to get into old habits. Exercise going well, but started having sneaky slices of bread and butter again (toast is my nemisis). Started MFP with honesty again today, and being stricter with 16:8 (slid to 13:11ish!)

molifly14 · 15/06/2020 12:27

@overweightcat I'm using an app called loose it. It's not what they recommend however I know they 1500 calories is too many for me to loose weight. I maintain at that level. I'm also very inactive at the minute with working from home so not doing enough excessive to warrant a high intake. I manage ok with 800 for the first few weeks to kickstart things off. I find after two weeks I have to up by another couple of hundred to keep it going.

carrottopper · 15/06/2020 12:32

Feeling like having a cheat day today. Struggling as just want to have some crisps! Going to take my children out for a long walk after lunch and hope it kicks my bum into gear. What is everyone having for lunch? I'm having two boiled eggs and two slices of bread. I know it's not ideal but hoping it sorts out my craving for stodge!

800 calories does seem really low. I struggle on 1200

Drybird2020 · 15/06/2020 12:43

I need this thread if it's OK to join at this late stage. I'm within the last stone but have plateaued and need a kick up the arse to get motivated again...
I do 2 fasting days a week and am almost finished C25K, but I really need to count calories in MFP on non fasting days and am so bad at sticking to it, it's just so BORING and with everything else being so boring at the moment it's difficult to find the impetus.
