Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Flippetydip · 18/05/2020 12:15

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Huge congratulations, @PowerslidePanda - amazing achievement. You look awesome.

I'm really close to my target now, too - 1 lb to go!

Hi all - I know the thread has gone quiet now, but just wanted to pop back to say that I've finally reached my target weight! I've lost 35lb in total (the final 16 on this thread) - from 156lb to 121lb, and my BMI has gone from 29.6 to 22.9. Before and after pics attached, plus one of me in my old trousers now!

Hope everyone is doing well!

It's my birthday, yey! A couple of family members clubbed together and got me a posh garmin watch that will do most things short of making the tea... It records steps, sleep, and most sports in the world, links to strava and myfitnesspal. I am a very happy bunny. Also I went out for lunch with a friend I haven't seen since lockdown, and her first comment was that was looking slim and had I lost weight! Of course I then had a massive burger and some birthday cake... Happy day!

Hi everyone! I haven't been keeping up with this thread (life has been speeding up again these last few weeks), although I've been plodding along towards to target. I've mostly ditched the tracking on MFP as I seem to basically know the amounts of calories in the things I tend to eat (ball park figures anyway!) but I'm sticking to the 5:2 and 16:8 thing. I'm finding it lots easier now than I did at the beginning - I hardly ever feel deprived (I suppose this might be because I don't really deprive myself that much of the things I really want) so I'm really hoping I can maintain this attitude to food.

I'm 8st 3 or 4 now so I've essentially lost a stone (started in May at 9st 3) and last week I was, fleetingly, 8st 2. Three pounds to go but, whilst I'm still pretty determined to get there, I'm in no real rush... Clothes feel and look better, a few people have noticed I've lost weight etc and I'm feeling pretty good!

Still not exercising but I'm feeling like it's getting near. I'm beginning to see exercise now as a means to health and fitness and longevity, rather than just weightloss, as some of you have said, and I think this shift in attitude towards it is what's needed. I also really need to look better naked Grin. I nearly signed up for a 10 week yoga course but then realised it was via zoom so didn't go for it (I really need the act of leaving the house to motivate, I think).

Really pleased to hear about all of your various successes and general news. Sorry to hear you've been having such a tough time, @GreyBudgie... Hope you can get a break soon Flowers.

So it’s the start of September, and although it’s very slow I think I’m losing about a pound a month now. Pleased with that, and also learning what to eat without tracking all the time. Weighing was the key for me to see what a portion of cereal or cheese actually look like.

In three weeks time I’m having a dental implant done and it looks like for sometime after that I’ll only be able to eat soft food. I’ll be interested to see how it affects my weight as I won’t be able to eat most of what I eat now In three weeks time I’m having a dental implant done and it looks like for sometime after that I’ll only be able to eat soft food. Hope everyone had a good week! I've not done any calorie counting but have managed to chuck the 2.5lb from holiday off by doing 16:8 fasting. And better yet, this morning I went back to my run club! It's a very informal ladies group, not competitive, been going for 7yrs with breaks for babies and most recently 18m off due to prolapsed discs - really great to be back, 3.5 miles in the autumn sunshine.

Completely agree with @BorsetshireBlueBalls about health. I have a few minor health issues (foot pain) but I've also just been told I have a bulging disc in my neck which may be causing my shoulder and arm problems. I've decided this is my motivation for weight loss to see if it helps at all. I have heard it might do, but think that referred to lumber rather than neck discs. So no more bread for me, much more veg, and a proper push for results.

As someone who is in my 50's, Lurcher, I absolutely concur with your wish to stay fit. Some of it will be luck, but yes, the more you work your body (not to injury obviously) in earlier years, and keep your weight at a healthy level, the better those later decades will be. Don't ignore the little things either - I'm spending time each day at the moment doing lots of ballet exercises to strengthen feet, ankles and calves. These are hard! I realise how much weaker one side is than the other, and how this affects my ability to straighten one leg fully and therefore stay aligned and parallel throughout my whole body. On the plus side, the pain in my Achilles and insteps is vanishing and the hip pain hasn't troubled me for several days now. So I'm booking a visit to a big ol' country estate this weekend and plan to walk miles.

Well that was an 'interesting' week away on hols!!! I've come back feeling like total crap tbh. I've not done any exercise and while I didn't think I went mad on food I have not been eating the right sorts of things. Chips and ice-cream aplenty and wine/cider every evening when the kids went to bed, and not enough veg. My guts feel like I've just been piling food on top of food, my back is so stiff and sore I struggled to get up some steps, I honestly feel old! I'm 37. Scales wise I've put 2.5lb on. But honestly it's more about how I feel than what they say! I need to sort myself out, I plan on spending my 50s running, cycling, walking and travelling, not so weak and stiff I can't do anything! Back on it...

Oh, and my other method is to substitute 'food as reward/consolation/stress relief' for adjustments to my wardrobe as I progress towards my target weight. Occasionally this involves spending money (carefully, in the sales, what I can afford and will really use) but quite often it's about planning outfits and making alterations to what I've got. I've found this good for morale during lockdown when mostly I've lived in workout/dog walking clothes.

This is the place for those of a wavering mindset @Paintinmyhairtoday, and different approaches. Some adopt the 800 - 1200 calorie method, some do 5:2, some 16:8 (I mostly do that), some do slow and steady (that's me also). What is special about the 8 week target? Does upping exercise help with food habits for you?

I sent back the dress and have decided to spend the budget on good flats instead. My ageing feet insist upon these but I want to feel stylish AND comfortable rather than frumpily orthopaedic. Am waiting for a pair of Rose Rankin trainers to arrive and am inching towards a gorgeous pair of monk straps.

Still bouncing around in the 58kg range when I want to be 57kg. Will try a week without pudding (it's usually only strawberries/raspberries with cream, a small indulgence, but it adds up), especially while I'm still a bit inhibited on the walking front.

I desperately need to lost a stone in the next 8 weeks but I just can’t get into the mindset.

Have already had two pieces of toast with lurpak spreadable (400g loaf) and 3 Jaffa cakes today :/

Hey everyone. My dress arrived. Good news: it fits, and suits me. Slightly less good news: the fabric is not as nice as I'd hoped. But - it's a Vivienne Westwood, half-price, and it might be worth hanging on to it to keep me on the straight and narrow, food-wise.

Finally got out of my usual rut on Saturday evening - got on a train to the city and walked along the river and through Bermondsey, looking hungrily at enticing restaurants and cocktail bars. Window shopping only on this occasion though. Just as well, because I'm not sure my teetotalism would have held up had I actually been in a position to order a negroni or a margarita. Clocked up 6km, and was limping a bit on return home, but not too bad. More exercises needed!

Well I certainly have my moans about my kids so!!! You're defo allowed.

I've had the lowest calorie week of my life this week... and haven't lost a lb!!! To be honest I feel like I am an OK weight now and that a bit more exercise might shift me that last 1 or 2lb more and tone up the edges. But being time poor with young kids and work I'm not sure I'll manage, plus need to mind my back discs.

Off on holiday tomorrow to experience some Welsh weather, so I'm having a week off! I won't go nuts but I won't say no to treats with my family.

When I get back I'll see about making a plan for a couple of things a week, pilates is restarting, the pool has opened, running has been going ok so far touch wood, and still got bike, plus physio. I'll aim for 2 cardio a week, pilates and physio. And not beat myself up if I can't because of #life.

Thanks for the support Folks! @Indecisivelurcher Great suggestion on the walking/jogging group. There is one locally which meets at 10am on Saturdays, but Parent frequently is not up and dressed before 11am.

Just having a whinge helps Grin. Elder care is no different to looking after young children, which I am sure many of you are doing without complaint. You just don't get the fun, games and giggles with Elders.

@greybudgie it must be incredibly tough to be a carer for a parent. I hate to think that you're feeling lonely and also denying yourself icecream, so you did the right thing in my book. Hope exercise endorphins give you a bit of a pick me up... Are you be able to get out during the day at all, could you join a walking or jogging club?

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 14/08/2020 11:16

Budgie, I'm sorry to hear you're despondent. I hope brother's visit at least brings some relief and company. Jeez, carers really are the army that holds the nation up.

I also need to tilt my diet back towards proteins. And up the greens. Eggs and asparagus for breakfast rather than sourdough and humus/peanut butter, for example. Thankfully the heatwave has broken and I will (cautiously) begin to up my exercise. Physio exercises quite challenging, but can be done whilst watching telly.

I actually ordered a dress I'd had my eye on for a while, and which finally went into the half-price sale. Sadly, I wasn't quick enough out of the block and the size I wanted was gone, so...I've ordered the next one down. Gulp! It's free returns, so what's the worse that can happen? But it is an incentive to stay off the ice-cream.

@BorsetshireBlueBalls Glad you are on the path to "sorted". A good physio can be life enhancing. I reckon a lot of chronic pain would be better managed with physio than long term painkiller use.

@carrottopper @PowerslidePanda Well done for your loses. You got this!

I've been struggling in the extreme heat down South :-(. I can't do my weights as they are in a non insulated attic room which is over 30 deg. C on the evenings. I lost the plot and inhaled vanilla ice cream to "keep cool". I was drinking litres of sugar free squash which started me on a raging carb craving. I'm chronically lonely and miserable and the Parent is needing a lot of extra care.

I'm back on track from yesterday, logging on MFP again and I've ditched the squash. I found a 3 month, 3 workouts a day plan in a 2015 Woman's Fitness magazine which I've embarked on to mix things up. I'm investigating yoga practice too as I can feel I'm sinking into self pity.

My brother will be visiting for a few days soon. I won't get a proper break from caring as I have to do the mornings and bedtime with Parent. I won't get home, but I can catch up with a terminally ill friend who I was scared I would not see again and I'm determined to get to the sea for a paddle.

Best wishes to all, and thanks for reading my woe is me post.

Hi everyone.

I've not been on here for what feels like a few weeks.
I've fallen of the wagon a bit with exercising the past 2 weeks but tried to keep it reasonable with food intake.

I think when I posted last mid to late July I was swaying around the 64.4 kg mark. That has now gradually shifted and my usual first thing in the morning weight is 63kg which is steady slow progress I guess.

I now fit in the shorts that had a 3 inch gap between the button and the hole when I started out and there was no way I could do them up! They're still a tad tight when I sit down in them though (v high waisted) so I'm going to wait until they're fully comfortable until I take the tags off Grin (only had them in my wardrobe 4 years I'm sure they can wait a bit longer).

I'm considering starting a new routine where I wake up super early mon-fri maybe 5.30 am to take the dog for a brisk 1hr +ish walk in the morning as when I've done them before they seem to burn a decent amount of cals according to my Fitbit and Ddog gets walked in the process!
I don't know if I'm crazy but the idea of being up, ticking of exercise and dog walk plus maybe having some time for a coffee before the household wakes up is quite a appealing to me..
