Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Flippetydip · 18/05/2020 12:15

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Please can I tag along too?

I'm about 10 stone 8, need to lose more than a stone to get to my fighting weight but a stone would be a good start Grin

GreyBudgie · 09/08/2020 09:38

@clevername You are so close!!!!!! I think the "two pounds tango" is something we'll all experience, and it's part of learning what our maintenance lifestyle will be. Congratulations on you loss to date.

@NoImNotPregnant Welcome! Do you have a plan? Good luck!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 09/08/2020 20:37

Evening all. I am close to where I want to be (I think 57kg would be comfortable), bouncing around in the 58s at the moment. Not struggling to eat well, but keeping up the exercise is harder because a) filthy hot and b) nasty hip pain. Sort of in the hip joint, at the back, but also up in the groin, on my right leg, stabs into the front quad and knee. I keep on trying to exercise and stretch, but I find myself limping. Anyone got any ideas? Don't feel I can go to the GP with something so vague in the current climate and Dr Google isn't helpful.

Lurkingforawhile · 09/08/2020 21:42

@BorsetshireBlueBalls if you can I would suggest a visit to a physio. I had a bad hip pain that was diagnosed, treated and fixed in a couple of sessions. We also identified the underlying cause. Accupuncture, massage and exercises did the trick!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 10/08/2020 09:44

Thanks Lurking, I'll see what the options are in my area. What was the cause of your hip pain? It's such a tricky area - so many nerves and tendons that you get all kinds of referred pain.

Indecisivelurcher · 10/08/2020 10:32

Oh dear @bortshire I wonder if it's your back 😔 The vagueness / not able to put your finger on one specific thing and pain in several places are making me say this. Defo try to get yourself to a good physio.

For about 4 months I thought I'd hurt my knee and hip flexor, tried home physio with no improvement, eventually got to the point I couldn't drive without clenching my teeth in pain, went to the physio, prolapsed discs. Was really lucky to randomly pick a physio who specialises in spinal issues. In hindsight I am convinced I've had this much longer and had been misdiagnosed by a previous physio. All this was 2yrs ago, I'm still very much managing it.

So 1.4lb off last week, shorts are baggy on me today! Dd5yo had me up 12:30-2:30am so need to avoid the biscuit tin. Got a pound or two to go if I can but would be happy to maintain, particularly as going on holiday next week and there will be icecream and fish and chips to enjoy.

Wishing everyone a good week 😁

NC866 · 10/08/2020 10:40

@BorsetshireBlueBalls recommend trying a chiropractor, I’ve solved my hip pain in a few sessions with one! In my case it was misalignment in my pelvis causing it, but there could be a lot of different reasons so best to get it checked out!

Lurkingforawhile · 10/08/2020 10:41

@BorsetshireBlueBalls bursitis in my hip - very common. Caused by a poor horse riding position and too much sitting trot!

PowerslidePanda · 10/08/2020 11:33

So my "reset" week has ended - I feared it would make gain me a bit, but instead I've lost 1lb! Despite consuming 2,500 calories more than each of the previous 3 weeks, when I lost next to nothing... So weird! But hopefully it's got my metabolism back on track.

Great progress, @clevername, @BorsetshireBlueBalls and Indecisivelurcher! You're all so close to your targets now! The pain sounds miserable though, @BorsetshireBlueBalls Sad I hope a physio or chiropractor can help you get to the bottom of it.

Welcome, @NoImNotPregnant!

Not seen @Plancina, @carrottopper or @overweightcat for a while - are you guys ok?

carrottopper · 10/08/2020 13:01

Hi, yes I'm ok. Our holiday to Spain was cancelled and I just didn't feel like tracking my weight!! Funnily enough, I've eaten anything I wanted, stopped exercise and relaxed and lost 2lb. I'm maintaining 11stone at the moment.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 10/08/2020 16:23

Thanks to all for advice and useful prod- have just got a cancellation with a physio for 8am tomorrow. Sitting here with shooting pains in hip and thigh after limping back from the shops, so feels good to DO something.

Well done Panda on counterintuitive weight loss, and also carrottopper. Truly the way of the weightloss is an enigma...

Is anyone watching that Michael Mosely 'How to lose a stone in 21 days'? It's 800 cals per day, which I couldn't manage, (unless someone was putting the food in front of me, and my day was also highly structured and busy). The idea is you don't feel hungry because high protein and proper fats.

Indecisivelurcher · 10/08/2020 19:19

Well done fingers crossed the physio is good. Do ask about back... Like I said it wasn't picked up initially for me.

Yes to Michael Moseley, i really like shows that combine science, fitness and cooking! If it's set somewhere different in the world even better... Ideally it would involve doing up a house... I'm thinking French fitness gite in the alps, they do up the gite then have people stay to enjoy the wholesome cooking, meditation, yoga, and hardcore bootcamps up near vertical inclines... 😁

Lurkingforawhile · 10/08/2020 22:08

I watched the Michael Moseley program (first episode) and thought they all sounded starving! I don't think you can feel full on 800 cals, esp if you've been eating quite a lot for a while. Having said that it was shocking how much in denial they were about their weights and waists.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 11/08/2020 11:26

So lovely physio this morning spent an hour turning me like an omelette and checking out various things. Most likely is tight gluteal muscles compressing the femoral nerve. Tightness generally is caused by weakness, so I have some exercises to strengthen gluteal muscles on my right, some fun self-massage to do with a tennis ball and an appointment to return in a month for more assessments on pelvic alignment and (here's hoping) massage.

Is physio just part of middle-age maintenance these days, d'ye think, like orthodontics for teens? the latter was an exotic rarity in my adolescence (as my bills for dental tweaking as an adult bear witness) but you barely encounter a teenager without a brace in my neighbourhood now. Anyway, like orthodontics, the physio won't offer a quick fix, but I feel I'm doing something positive and better-informed, so many thanks for the guidance, people.

Indecisivelurcher · 11/08/2020 16:47

Ahh @bortshire yes unfortunately that's my conclusion!!! It's a wonder they don't do memberships... Are you joining me in the land of side leg raises, side clams and wall squats?!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 11/08/2020 17:01

I'm encouraging my other half to go and get some attention to his hamstring so he can run, run like the wind again (not really - more not breaking down ignominiously mid-run).

I'm familiar with those exercises Lurcher, but to deal with my shoddy glutes I have to focus on the one-legged bridge raise, more on the right hand side. And roll around on a tennis ball to get into the tight and tender bit. And stretching. Every day, twice a day, probably for the rest of my life.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 11/08/2020 17:02

Oh, and she did check out my back, so I was encouraged that she knew what she was at!

PowerslidePanda · 13/08/2020 08:38

Another lb off - I'm 9 stone exactly today, which means I (theoretically) fit back into my wedding dress! Grin This was my original target weight, but my waist measurement and body fat percentage are still just outside the healthy range, so extending it was definitely the right decision. 5lb to go!

Glad you're doing well, @carrottopper - hope you get another opportunity or a holiday before too long!

That sounds like a step in the right direction, @BorsetshireBlueBalls - keeping my fingers crossed that the exercises make a difference for you soon!

PowerslidePanda · 13/08/2020 08:42

*for a holiday!

overweightcat · 13/08/2020 10:32

Hi everyone.

I've not been on here for what feels like a few weeks.
I've fallen of the wagon a bit with exercising the past 2 weeks but tried to keep it reasonable with food intake.

I think when I posted last mid to late July I was swaying around the 64.4 kg mark. That has now gradually shifted and my usual first thing in the morning weight is 63kg which is steady slow progress I guess.

I now fit in the shorts that had a 3 inch gap between the button and the hole when I started out and there was no way I could do them up! They're still a tad tight when I sit down in them though (v high waisted) so I'm going to wait until they're fully comfortable until I take the tags off Grin (only had them in my wardrobe 4 years I'm sure they can wait a bit longer).

I'm considering starting a new routine where I wake up super early mon-fri maybe 5.30 am to take the dog for a brisk 1hr +ish walk in the morning as when I've done them before they seem to burn a decent amount of cals according to my Fitbit and Ddog gets walked in the process!
I don't know if I'm crazy but the idea of being up, ticking of exercise and dog walk plus maybe having some time for a coffee before the household wakes up is quite a appealing to me..

GreyBudgie · 14/08/2020 09:34

@BorsetshireBlueBalls Glad you are on the path to "sorted". A good physio can be life enhancing. I reckon a lot of chronic pain would be better managed with physio than long term painkiller use.

@carrottopper @PowerslidePanda Well done for your loses. You got this!

I've been struggling in the extreme heat down South :-(. I can't do my weights as they are in a non insulated attic room which is over 30 deg. C on the evenings. I lost the plot and inhaled vanilla ice cream to "keep cool". I was drinking litres of sugar free squash which started me on a raging carb craving. I'm chronically lonely and miserable and the Parent is needing a lot of extra care.

I'm back on track from yesterday, logging on MFP again and I've ditched the squash. I found a 3 month, 3 workouts a day plan in a 2015 Woman's Fitness magazine which I've embarked on to mix things up. I'm investigating yoga practice too as I can feel I'm sinking into self pity.

My brother will be visiting for a few days soon. I won't get a proper break from caring as I have to do the mornings and bedtime with Parent. I won't get home, but I can catch up with a terminally ill friend who I was scared I would not see again and I'm determined to get to the sea for a paddle.

Best wishes to all, and thanks for reading my woe is me post.

Grin
GreyBudgie · 14/08/2020 09:39

@overweightcat Congratulations on your baggy shorts! Keep us posted on how your new morning routine works out.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 14/08/2020 11:16

Budgie, I'm sorry to hear you're despondent. I hope brother's visit at least brings some relief and company. Jeez, carers really are the army that holds the nation up.

I also need to tilt my diet back towards proteins. And up the greens. Eggs and asparagus for breakfast rather than sourdough and humus/peanut butter, for example. Thankfully the heatwave has broken and I will (cautiously) begin to up my exercise. Physio exercises quite challenging, but can be done whilst watching telly.

I actually ordered a dress I'd had my eye on for a while, and which finally went into the half-price sale. Sadly, I wasn't quick enough out of the block and the size I wanted was gone, so...I've ordered the next one down. Gulp! It's free returns, so what's the worse that can happen? But it is an incentive to stay off the ice-cream.

Indecisivelurcher · 14/08/2020 16:43

@greybudgie it must be incredibly tough to be a carer for a parent. I hate to think that you're feeling lonely and also denying yourself icecream, so you did the right thing in my book. Hope exercise endorphins give you a bit of a pick me up... Are you be able to get out during the day at all, could you join a walking or jogging club?

GreyBudgie · 14/08/2020 17:47

Thanks for the support Folks! @Indecisivelurcher Great suggestion on the walking/jogging group. There is one locally which meets at 10am on Saturdays, but Parent frequently is not up and dressed before 11am.

Just having a whinge helps Grin. Elder care is no different to looking after young children, which I am sure many of you are doing without complaint. You just don't get the fun, games and giggles with Elders.
