Banting is my favourite old fashioned word. Means slimming, and I got it from Agatha Christie Grin

Hi @DontFundHate @Patchworksack!

I reckon I have a stone to lose. I'm 5ft 6in and 144lbs as of yesterday. I've recently joined a gym and going at least once a week. Am also running around after 3 children!

Am new to this but I thought I'd try to do 1500 cals a day? Snacking is my weakness. I love to snack.....mmmm..... 🤤

How do others deal with cooking for a family, while also dieting themselves?

Octopus37 · 09/02/2020 09:11

DontFund, know what you mean about periods, my normal cycle is every 3-4 weeks, closer to 3, but this month had my normal one, about 5 days break and am now (I think) at the end of a second one. Are you mid 40s by any chance? Does make you more tired and hungry, but on the plus side like to think that it burns more calories.

Welcome ndo4000

Went to the Harvesters last night and had Jerk Chicken, rice and salad and a pint of cider, not too bad, could have been worse, didn't eat all the chicken and rice. Up to 9.6.25 this morning, but hoping it will correct itself. Good luck to those of you doing a reset. TBH too tired to face doing that at that moment, so just going to carry on with what I have been doing, apart from yesterday obviously. Will be pleased if I am 9.5.5 again tomorrow. Aiming for 9st4.75 valentines day (Friday).

DontFundHate · 09/02/2020 12:10

@ndo4000 we're very similar - im the same height and started off that weight too. Down half a stone since new year, would like to lose another half stone. We can do it Smile I have 1400kcal per day and exercise 3 x a week.

As for cooking with family we all eat the same, I just calorie count it and have smaller portions. Eg spag bol made with loads of veg with 125g wholemeal spaghetti, curry with 125g brown rice - I use a packet, kids have white rice. tomato and Mediterranean veg with wholemeal penne pasta and fish etc

@Octopus37 no I'm actually early 30s so not sure what's going on. Used to be every 28 days on the dot. Have recently finished having all my children so am putting it down to my body getting back to normal, they are about every 25 days now so just a variant of the norm, but annoying with all the hormones that come with it!

ndo4000 · 09/02/2020 12:30

@DontFundHate that's great that you've lost that much already!!! I hope I can be that good!!!

wastingtimeworrying · 09/02/2020 14:02

I am having normal family dinners but trying to fast through breakfast and have salad for lunch. Bread is my weakness and Friday nights are always my 'fall off the wagon' night

TheHoundsofLove · 09/02/2020 14:11

ndo4000 I've tweaked my routine so that I can eat the same meal as my husband and son almost all of the time - although, I'm a vegetarian and they're not so we do sometimes have something slightly different because of that.
I hope everyone is having a good Sunday and weathering the storm!
It was a really lovely morning again here so I went for my long run and managed 19.5km.

WellErrr · 09/02/2020 14:42

ndo4000 I’ve put everyone on the healthy eating plan, and I just weigh out a smaller portion and eat it slowly!

Periods are nuts. Mine were driving me mad, every 3 weeks and bad mood swings/putting weight on etc so I’ve been taking the pill back to back for nearly a year now. It’s like having a new life! I’m getting longer and longer between periods, mood swings have gone. Having one this week is reminding me how awful they were!

Book bought. Need to get rid of this weight!! Please @ me if I ever disappear!!

TheHoundsofLove · 09/02/2020 15:19

You‘ve got this Hey - you just need to keep going!

TheHoundsofLove · 09/02/2020 15:43

Admittedly it’s more exercise than diet focused...but if anyone wants a good podcast to listen to, Kelly Holmes was on Chloe Madeley‘s Bodcast this week - it’s a really positive, inspirational episode! 💪

Heygirlheyboy · 09/02/2020 19:02

I willthink check in on weigh in in the morning, last thurs 9 stone 8.25! I am finding the book good, definitely coming from where I'm at. She stresses keeping going despite errors along the way, coming away from diet thinking and seeing the treat in feeling good etc. She describes sugar hangovers and shame and it's all so familiar. She says 66 days the scientific sweet spot to break the habit but even then doesn't expect perfection so I won't be starting again!! Good luck guys x

ndo4000 · 09/02/2020 19:47

Well day 1 started well. Then ruined it all by going out for a slap up lunch and then eating my body weight in sweets at the theatre.... hey ho.

The diet starts tomorrow eh?

DontFundHate · 09/02/2020 20:20

Back on it today with a 1400 day. Will weigh in tomorrow, expecting to see an extra pound or two as AF starting asap and after the cake filled week I've had!

DontFundHate · 09/02/2020 20:22

Tomorrow's plan, won't be easy.

B - chia with berries
L - beans on toast
D - dinner at a friend's. Will try to load up on loads of veggies at dinner to fill me up, and have a small pudding only if I feel like it (my friend is debating between two different deserts, one of which I don't like so I'm hoping she chooses that one!)

WellErrr · 09/02/2020 20:27

Oh dear ndo! Remember the first few days are the hardest, just power through it gets easier after!

Well done dont!

I’m on 1116 now, really fancy a sandwich thin (150) but I’m trying to resist!

OP posts:
WellErrr · 09/02/2020 20:47

Had my sandwich thin and thoroughly enjoyed it! Ended on 1353 so I’m still within. Weigh in tomorrow - i know I gained last week but if I’ve maintained this week I’ll be happy.

Ack I lost you guys and finally found you...how are you all getting on...?

I am 5.5lbs down now and feeling great although still not back on tracking properly (which I know I need to!)

Just finished my food prep of tomato and pepper soup, chicken and veg fajitas, chorizo and bean stew, over night oats and a ginger cake

I'll be happy to lose another 1lb this week and see the scales on the downside of 9.7 🙏

Porpoises · 09/02/2020 22:51

Had a lovely weekend away with friends. Relaxed on the eating, so interested to see what I weigh. I want to calibrate how strict I need to be to just maintain, and then do more than that some weeks to lose.

Porpoises · 09/02/2020 22:54

And there's definitely some sugar addiction going on... Was wondering why I was so enjoying eating pickle straight out the jar for a snack, then realised it contains added sugar and it all made sense!

Porpoises · 09/02/2020 22:59

Haven't bought any unhealthy snacks for ages so the most tempting thing in the house is now the pickle GrinBlush.

WellErrr · 10/02/2020 06:11

Hi jelly!

Porpoises 😂😂😂😂

Well I’ve weighed in aaaaand - 8st8! So goodness only knows how THAT happened..!

Pleased though. Good luck everyone else!

Octopus37 · 10/02/2020 06:56

WellErr that's fab, that's what I would love to weigh ideally, unfortunately I am 8st6, did okish yesterday but didn't go out cause of the storm so next to no steps. Somedays I feel optimistic, know it goes up and down a bit and just think I will get to goal it will just take time. Other days I think I'm never going to get there, cannot do it, obviously not being strict enough, how I supposed to get any hungrier etc. O well, know I'm doing my best for me, so hoping it will be down again tomorrow.

TheHoundsofLove · 10/02/2020 06:59

That's great Well !
I've weighed this morning and am now 9st4, so am 2lbs down on my 31st January weight!

TheHoundsofLove · 10/02/2020 07:00

It's probably just a blip Octopus - you will get there!

Heygirlheyboy · 10/02/2020 07:27
