Banting is my favourite old fashioned word. Means slimming, and I got it from Agatha Christie Grin

Welcome Porpoises. Haven't done very well today here, was going ok, but have just eaten 2 big oatcakes (133 cals each), taking me over 1500. Yet another day when I'm hangry

wastingtimeworrying · 31/01/2020 21:06

Like the new title. Well done all those loses. Only 2lb down for Jan but only aiming for 2lb more. Its maintaining i need to work on (am 5ft1 too and currently 8 st 10) cut right back on alcohol (didnt quite manage dry jan) re-introduced zumba twice a week. But this week at work was very stressful and have def eaten my feelings today !!

WellErrr · 31/01/2020 21:53

1967cals here today, but successful weigh in days are my day off (usually Monday..!) so I don’t mind.
1200cal day planned tomorrow, so we’ll see how I do!

Welcome Porpoises!

Octopus have you tried any strategies in the evenings? Like waiting half an hour to see if you really need it? Or find something less calorific to snack on? It’s so annoying to get to the end of the day successfully and then fall victim to the snacking....🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Normally I manage it with a hot sugar free squash or black tea, but tonight fell victim. I'm trying to tell myself at least I didn't then eat everything in sight cause I'd failed anyway. New day tomorrow.

Patchworksack · 31/01/2020 22:50

Hi porpoise welcome!

Twixes · 31/01/2020 23:45

Ah jaysus. I drank wine and stuffed my face with cheese. Way to go me!

Heygirlheyboy · 01/02/2020 08:10

Friday nights definitely rhe time to let the rules slip! I enjoyed every bite of my takeaway. Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm away on a training weekend which will make things trickier but I will keep up my log and hopefully I have a good idea of portion sizes.

Patchworksack · 01/02/2020 08:29

DH and I polished off a bottle of wine together last night to end dry January and say #bolloxtobrexit, and I was straight back to being wide awake at 3am then feeling crap this morning. I obviously just can't do it any more and I will have to go teetotal. It made me realise how much better I have felt being 'dry'. Sad

Wineloffa · 01/02/2020 08:32

Checking in to confess that I had 2 glasses of champagne last night AND wine with my dinner! Eek! It’s so hard to be good on Friday nights! I’m off to spinning now to work it off.

Out for dinner tonight to my favourite restaurant, will try and keep on the straight and narrow.

Happy Saturday everyone.

Twixes · 01/02/2020 09:00

Me too @Patchworksack, I feel dreadful today and I didn't even have that much. Plus I didn't go to my spin class :( I'm out tonight for dinner and will probably blow my calories. My knee is certainly getting a rest!

everycowandagain · 01/02/2020 10:54

I was out last night, had a lovely Thai meal and faaar too much alcohol. Quite hungover today. Goal for today is to avoid eating ALL THE FOOD.

Was a good night though!!

wastingtimeworrying · 01/02/2020 11:03

Friday night always my downfall - exhausted from working week, cant be arsed to cook, one cheat night not bad !

Wineloffa · 01/02/2020 11:22

Just back from spinning, I felt so ill, thought I might throw up.. Note to self: do not drink wine and champagne the night before a spin class!!

Today’s menu:
B- porridge and blueberries
L- smoked salmon and scrambled eggs
D- eating out at my favourite restaurant, will try and make good choices and not have too much alcohol!!

Lemonyfuckit · 01/02/2020 11:47

Hello, please can I join? Could do with something supportive like this to help keep me accountable. I'm short and find that if I don't work quite hard at it the weight just goes up and up. Am quite muscular so have always been pretty heavy for my size if that makes sense. Have put on about 10kg + since meeting my partner over 4 years ago, and now I need to get right back down as we are getting married next year. I want to feel happy in my body when I start wedding dress shopping.
I find that if I can stick to 1,200 - 1,400 calories then I lose, and am pretty disciplined during the week, don't find that hard, and do some form of exercise about 4 times a week. My downfall is the weekend, starting with something less healthy Friday night and a few drinks over the weekend and it's so easy to just totally blow through that calorie target without even thinking about it, think I undo all my good work every weekend. Not even pigging out, just having slightly less healthy meals and a few drinks does it.

MyuMe · 01/02/2020 12:03

I did actually weigh today

Not as bad as I thought.

About 10st 1lb

Which is no change

And...I had eaten breakfast and am due my period so I'm all swollen and bloated

DontFundHate · 01/02/2020 12:23

Comforted to know I'm not the only one to find Fri night + weekends really hard!

Today's menu

B - croissant
L - fish fingers
D - ????

I know I promised to plan out my weekends better , I will try to think of something moderately healthy to have! Or I have some home made stuff in the freezer which I could defrost = zero effort required

Wineloffa · 01/02/2020 13:12

Welcome @Lemonyfuckit, you’ve come to the right place! This is a very supportive and encouraging thread with lots of great tips and advice.

I’m short too so I know all about how hard it is to keep the weight down especially with age! I’m currently on 1200 calories a day which is working well.

From this morning’s posts you’ll see that a lot of us find the weekends tough too!

Patchworksack · 01/02/2020 14:03

Welcome lemonyfuckit

Canklesforankles · 01/02/2020 14:28

Welcome Porpoises.

Well I have been quiet because my scales did not shift. But I kept going. Felt better anyway for eating less crap. Felt slimmer but nothing on scales.

Anyway I have lost 0.8 kg or 1.75 lb in January. I am bloody delighted!

I want to lose half a stone so if I repeat that in Feb, March and April I will be sorted by May.

Very, very excited as I’m early 50’s 5ft, terrible peri menopause symptoms (flushes, fatigue, anxiety, joint pain, insomnia).

I have been trying to eat between 12 and 8. But not beating myself up if I can’t. Having a much lighter lunch and realising I can manage.

I have been remembering that a piece of fruit is about 100 calories. Still eating it but just being mindful of the calories.

My meno symptoms have improved. I think it’s less sugar leading to fewer flushes and maybe not eating late evening means my body is cooler at night????

I wanted to say thank you for the atmosphere here. I had been feeling really stuck and wanted to stop my weight creeping up and to be more healthy but was stuck in a rut of eating for a quick energy boost which was making it all worse!

Canklesforankles · 01/02/2020 14:30

Hello to Lemony

Twixes · 01/02/2020 15:17

Hello Lemony. You're in good company there are quite a few shorties on the thread, me included!

Every lb shows on a shortie, but it also works the opposite way when losing so at least that's something!

DontFundHate · 01/02/2020 15:39

Welcome @Lemonyfuckit!

I have defrosted a tom kerridge beef Ragu made a month or so ago, so handy to have a few bits in the freezer for when I have no energy or motivation!

Lemonyfuckit · 01/02/2020 16:36

Thanks so much everyone for the welcome, and sounds like I am in good company!

I have just discovered The Roasting Tin and The Quick Roasting Tin cookbooks, which we are loving - loads of really quick and tasty recipes that are pretty light, perfect for after work cooking or easy weekend cooking that can just bung in the oven whilst get on with other things. There are quite a lot of recipes that you can add a carb to like some rice or something on the side but for me as trying to lose weight they're good as they are.

everycowandagain · 01/02/2020 17:47

@Canklesforankles good progress! Definitely reinforces the point that when the scales don't move but you are doing all the right things you just have to stick with it.

everycowandagain · 01/02/2020 17:51

My day hasn't been so bad despite the mild hangover. Walked 6000 steps to and from swimming with the kids. Probably won't be in a calorie deficit by the end of the day but hopefully flat.

I do need to moderate my weekends otherwise I just offset all my hard work creating a deficit during the week and end up going nowhere. It's definitely been the downfall of some previous efforts to lose a few pounds.
