Banting is my favourite old fashioned word. Means slimming, and I got it from Agatha Christie Grin

Mmm.... my family too wine.. My sister gave up everything for 6m, chocolate, dairy, meat... little to no difference! I'll look into that though for sure.

Interesting @Heygirlheyboy .. I’ll read up on it and see what’s the best course of action. The nurse has referred me to my GP because of the 5.8 so will have a chat when I see her.

Twixes · 06/02/2020 22:45

Have you tried benecol drinks or similar? DH's cholesterol runs high and he goes through phases of taking them. He thinks it keeps it at bay but it could be voodoo...And how depressing for your sister that she made such a sacrifice and it had no effect!!

That's so funny about the cheese and corn side, euww. I follow '70s dinner party' on twitter and it's full of similarly rank combos Grin

Porpoises · 06/02/2020 22:52

Feel like I ate a lot today, but it was all healthy things, so hopefully is okay. The cake/alcohol analogy is helping me!

My new scales claims it can do body fat stuff, but it's so overcomplicated I can barely make it tell me my actual weight. Maybe will have a try at some point.

WellErrr · 07/02/2020 06:26

Oooh id like a go on one of those machines too!

Mad in work yesterday, didn’t get chance to post. My eating day went:

B - actimel and overnight oats (242)
L - veg curry and quinoa (382)
D - porridge pot then small portion yogurt and granola (295)

S - banana (81), cup of tea (40), tiny portion banana cake (98), dairy milk miniature egg (59)

Total - 1197

Back on track.....for now! 🤞 meals planned today add up to 1184, hope I stick to it!

Have a good day everyone!

I struggled yesterday because I was very tired and very busy, so I definitely wasn't in a calorie deficit at the end of the day, but that's real life. Sometimes it won't be perfect but on the whole I did a good job of keeping all the plates spinning and didn't go crazy with food so probably wasn't far over maintenance. Walked a lot too!!

I have a workout to get done today, I feel as though I may need a few days of maintenance calories to get back on an even keel before I knuckle down again. I will aim to continue the good choices I have been making and cut myself a bit of slack to get my energy levels back.

Have a good day all!

Octopus37 · 07/02/2020 07:20

Wineloff have slightly high cholesterol too (5.2), think if you are not a lot over small changes should make a difference. That;s what I'm hoping anyway, reminds me, I need to go and get a blood test done soon. That's part of the reason why I eat my oat cakes, they are one of the foods that are supposed to help. I haven't cut out red meat cause I've had low iron in the past. All a mindfield is't it.

Weighed in at 9st6.25 this morning, up nearly a pound. Have my DS1's 10th Birthday tomorrow, we are going to The Harvesters for a meal so will need to be careful. Happy Friday everyone

Porpoises · 07/02/2020 07:45

@everycowandagain that sounds very sensible.

Have a nice Friday all.

wastingtimeworrying · 07/02/2020 07:56

Had a curry and a pint last night and scales were not kind this morning but sure it cant be actual weight gain over night (also due on and feeling really bloated)

Heygirlheyboy · 07/02/2020 08:23

Definitely not Wastingtimeworrying I'd make a point of not weighing the morning after a blowout! Have a good day all!
Menu: 2 weetabix
Egg wrap with Turkey and mayo and veg soup
Snack: homemade granola bar (no idea of calories here)
Dinner undecided.

everycowandagain · 07/02/2020 08:41

@wastingtimeworrying definitely not actual fat gain!!

Twixes · 07/02/2020 08:45

I've probably been at maintenance calories too over the last few days.No binges or anything so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Food for today:
Breakfast: ONO and skimmed milk coffee
Lunch and snacks: 2 slices of brown soda bread, light babybel, grapes and banana
Dinner: I think it'll be tortellini and a tomato ragu.
Probably on maintenance calories here again today!

I'm wearing a new skirt I bought recently and I'm definitely looking more svelte in it, not a size down yet but I'm sure I'm getting there :)

Heygirlheyboy · 07/02/2020 08:51

I'm thinking of the five pounds of butter equivalent that I'm no longer carrying around :) Hopefully be 6 by Mon.

TheHoundsofLove · 07/02/2020 11:06

Well it's an absolutely gorgeous day here today - really frosty but sunny and with a bright blue sky - so I've done an 11km run. I'm out for pizza tonight and wine , so just hope that I've done enough to break even...

Wineloffa · 07/02/2020 15:49

@Octopus37 I have higher levels of HDL which might be down to my egg consumption as I eat lots of eggs. I’m going to cut back on eggs, cut out cheese and use Benecol spread and get it checked again in 6 months. Well done on your loss!

@Twixes yay to looking svelte in your skirt - makes it all worthwhile doesn’t it?

Happy weekend everyone!

WellErrr · 07/02/2020 16:36

I’ve been mega struggling last few days....now it all seems to make sense as I think AF is coming! I only have 4ish a year but it explains the bloat, hunger and low mood!

Heygirl, I like the 5 pounds of butter analogy. Today:
Breakfast - Oatcakes and almonds (315)
Jamaican chicken soup (280)
Malteser bunny (157)
Freddo (95)
Dinner - Salmon fillet roasted with Cajun, some quinoa and turtle bean mix, roasted courgettes.

May have just tipped over 1500 but actually feel satisfied after that dinner. My DS wanted stuff to make a fruit crumble and I genuinely wondered how the hell I was going to resist it, but I am managing to. Going to be difficult (but lovely) tomorrow when its my DS's Birthday. We are going out for a meal and there is going to be Birthday cake.
May have a late breakfast and minimal lunch to save a few calories. Cannot believe my DS2 is going to be 10 lol

Canklesforankles · 07/02/2020 23:35

One of the things that has been most helpful about this thread is me tolerating being a bit hungry from time to time without getting in a panic. It’s usually at 11.30 and 4ish so now I think “That’s good,” knowing I’ll be eating soon.

This morning after 2 nights of getting up 4 times to poorly dog, I was really tired and hungry. I’m doing 16:8 so not usually hungry first thing. I thought “That’s interesting.” Took an apple and banana in the car with me in case it didn’t pass and managed just fine.

I’m looking forward to breakfast tomorrow as I’m going to have a late breakfast on the weekends.

Twixes · 08/02/2020 00:05

Well done @Canklesforankles! It's mad how we either freak out with hunger --> ahhh this isn't normal = must eat. OR for whatever is going-on-in-your-head e.g. tiredness, stress etc we cant cope with it and have to eat. I'm pretty sure feeling hunger from time to time is what we're supposed to be like. Our bodies need to eat up all that stuff in our gut!

Bold doggy by the way! Thank god they're cute Grin

TheHoundsofLove · 08/02/2020 07:47

I hope your dog is feeling better Cankles ?
I totally agree with you - it is very weird how we've all bought into the idea that feeling slight hunger pangs must be avoided at all costs. I think it's probably been exacerbated by the whole snacking culture and the message around a few years ago that 6 small meals were better than 3 bigger ones. Being on this health kick has definitely given me a very different attitude towards snacking and I find myself answering complaints of hunger between meals with a 'good, you'll enjoy your dinner then'! Which is exactly what my mum used to say to me! Grin

Heygirlheyboy · 08/02/2020 07:52

Guys I fell down on it last night, not wuite a binge thankfully but too much nonetheless :( But I won't let it stop me. Heading for a 5k walk now and will forgive myself and keep going.

Canklesforankles · 08/02/2020 08:34

Hey definitely be kind to yourself. what’s happened has happened. Onwards. Today is a new day. Flowers

WellErrr · 08/02/2020 08:46

I did the same hey. I blame AF.

Onwards and downwards!
