I’ve been living off Brie and chocolate since December began and I’ve put weight on. Currently 9st4lbs and I want to be 8st10lbs.
Anyone with me!?

Going to try calorie counting but open to suggestions. I currently eat far to much crap which is the root of the problem.

@joggingon you sound a bit defeated...you might remember me moaning about lack of progress and gains but hold out! It could be water retention, I was reading that when your muscles have been working hard they store glycogen and extra water during the healing process. Our bodies are funny things, it's not always exactly linear.

Plus, you'd hardly eat 3500 over your TDEE in one day? That's about 6250 calories!

Twixes · 24/01/2020 09:00

I think I'm finally starting to see results. Saw a new number on the scale this morning and my fav jeans are definitely not as beaten on Grin

Twixes · 24/01/2020 09:05

I'm so hungry when I eat 1000-1200, I don't know how you do it @WellErr! I find I'm ok at 1400 and some exercise

joggingon · 24/01/2020 09:34

Yes I do feel defeated. But it's my period (although I normally lose once I've started). I've signed up for a nutrition course in Feb. Really want to be more I. Control of my weight. No, no difference in clothing either. Sorry to moan. :(

Heygirlheyboy · 24/01/2020 11:05

joggingon I wouldn't bother weighing after a cheat day, that will even out, you'll see.

Patchworksack · 24/01/2020 13:35

DH is planning a Chinese feast for dinner tonight, so have had a protein shake for lunch so I can splurge later! Taking some fruit to have at work this afternoon as someone has brought in loads of biscuits Shock

everycowandagain · 24/01/2020 13:43

I am feeling a bit periody and blurgh today but I have been to the gym to do legs and now feel ace!

Trying to save some calories for dinner with the kids at pizza hut. I had a late breakfast of bran flakes and skyr (and far too much coffee), had a post workout protein shake with peanut butter powder and I will have an omelette early afternoon.

Also had a twix last night, not ideal but I did enjoy it.

everycowandagain · 24/01/2020 13:48

Question for those who are down to those final few pounds: are you seeing weight come off in the places you hold onto it most?

I am classic pear shape and carry more fat on my bum and thighs. While my tummy and the tops of my shoulders are starting to look quite lean, my thighs still have a generous covering!!

toasterstrudle · 24/01/2020 16:39

@joggingon I was heavier one Monday weigh in which was day 1 of my period then dropped 3lbs on the Weds. Dont worry, probably just bloat!

Well done Suzie! Depends on how you are normally but I sometimes just want a cake so.think 'fuck it' and factor it into my day - usually consider it my lunch or have a v low calorie option. I'm all about the calorie counting!

@thefitnesschef and @jamessmithpt are well worth a follow on instagram if you're a carb lover and having to do calorie counting!

toasterstrudle · 24/01/2020 16:40

*I mean have a v low calorie lunch, not cake (if only such a thing existed!)

Thestrangestthing · 24/01/2020 16:48

@WellErrr

I've just found this thread and would really love to lose around 10-12lbs. You managed to do that quickly and I really need some tips but don't have time to read through the whole thread atm.
Could you give me a quick breakdown of what you did and an example of food you have been eating. I'm terrible at dieting. Used to be really good at it but age is catching up and Im struggling.

joggingon · 24/01/2020 17:09

@toasterstrudle. Crossing fingers!

toasterstrudle · 24/01/2020 17:56

@Thestrangestthing I've lost 10lbs in 4 weeks doing the following:

  • 10,000 steps a day minimum
  • 1400 calories a day
  • hitting my protein target
  • gym workouts 3/4 times a week but not 'eating back' calories

I've been strict. Used 'james smith pt macro calculator' (free, just google it), to work out my protein target then just use rest of my calories for carbs or fats as I see fit. If you look back through this thread you can see examples of what I eat in a day.

Thestrangestthing · 24/01/2020 18:19

@toasterstrudle thanks, I'll have a look at the calculator. I'll have a read through tonight when the kids are in bed. Think planning my meals might help.

toasterstrudle · 24/01/2020 18:57

Def, others may have good hacks but off the top of my head things that help me -

1 english muffin, 2 medium eggs (boiled) and 10g butter = 350kcals, tasty breakfast and helps me override my evening toast craving knowing I can wait until breakfast. Without the butter it's only 285.

I dont snack so I have more cals for meals apart from one square 90% dark choc (75kcal) in evening

10kcal jellies are brilliant for evening cravings - key lime pie flavour is lush. Celery sprinkled with salt also good.

I eat our family dinners but often swap out the carb for an alternative like mashed broccoli or cauliflower (boil the frozen bags so its prep-free as a busy mum). I try to cook with slow cooker to avoid using any oils or butters. 1kcal spray is good if you have to use anything - need a few goes.

Octopus37 · 24/01/2020 19:01

Hi, well done everyone. Today has bee so so for me, a lot on my mind this week, day 1 of period, also think I have a bug, feeling really under the weather. So food:
Breakfast - Usual
Snack - Crème egg
Lunch - 1 slice of seeded bread with 1 mini babybel light
Dinner - BBQ chicken with rice, ate half a pouch of rice, but possibly a bit too much chicken
Have just eaten two choc biscuits
Weighed 9.8.25 this morning, but day 1 of period so will try and be good over the weekend and see what Monday brings.
On the plus side have managed 10,000 steps today, exercise has gone a bit by the wayside this week as have so much on. Needing to rethink work a bit so have started a course. Will try and improve my exercise, but no time and also find that it makes me feel that I have a god given right to eat.

DontFundHate · 24/01/2020 20:29

Preparing the night before helps me, make breakfast, lunch or dinner in advance to help stop things getting in the way and derailing plans

Starting the day with a healthy breakfast gets me in a good healthy mind set

Plenty of sleep, early bed means less snacking in the eve and less tempted to over eat the next day too

DontFundHate · 24/01/2020 20:32

Forgot to tag @Thestrangestthing for above

I also find its important to think of it all as a whole lifestyle change, I'm not making any major changes or quick fixes but trying to tweak my everyday life to fit a new healthier one, one that I'll stick to once the weight is lost. For example, I still have a weekly takeaway but I compensate for it during the day

WellErrr · 24/01/2020 21:56

DontFund I feel exactly the same about the lifestyle change.

Welcome @Thestrangestthing and good luck!!

I’ve had a bad day calories wise. I was on track for a much needed 950cal day after a few bad days this week....when DH came home and took me out for dinner! Lovely, but means I finished the day on 2275.
So today was:

B - actimel and banana (108)
L - chilli (518)
D - chicken tikka masala with half chips half rice, quarter of a naan, then brownie and ice cream (1649) 😱

S - had before I knew I was going out. One cookie (114)

2275 total. Can’t believe it! I wouldn’t mind but I’ve already had 2-3 cheat days this week...!

Back on it tomorrow!

Hope you’re feeling better soon @Octopus37

@toasterstrudle I didn’t realise you’d lost 10lbs altogether!! Well done!!

Thestrangestthing · 24/01/2020 22:11

@DontFundHate thanks. Going to bed earlier is a good idea. I also work from home so it's too easy to pick at things, especially if I'm not very busy or a bit bored my kind jumps to food.

MyuMe · 24/01/2020 22:30

Had another bad day ...
So much work stress.

I'm incorrigible

@WellErrr thanks, I was 145.8 on 28th december and 135ish just now although was around 141 when thread started so that might be why! Dont worry about going over today, I'm trying to adapt to @DontFundHate 's lifestyle mantra and view calories as a weekly average rather than 'good and bad' days. I know once I'm at goal I'll have to maintain and I dont want to be super healthy or strict every day for the rest of my life, not in my nature!

TheHoundsofLove · 25/01/2020 07:53

It's not in my nature either toaster ! Grin Life's too short and I'm definitely trying to make lifestyle changes that still allow me to enjoy food/wine/socialising. but not too much And I think we're all doing a great job! Because of all our different approaches, I really like the sense of balance on this thread.
Well Why don't you just treat this week as a maintenance week?
Good luck for the weekend everyone!

WellErrr · 25/01/2020 08:03

I’ve put a pound and a half on this week. I’m not surprised, but I’m trying to just see it like you say Hounds - it’s healthy to err now and then!

Properly back on it now though!

toaster that’s amazing!
