I’ve been living off Brie and chocolate since December began and I’ve put weight on. Currently 9st4lbs and I want to be 8st10lbs.
Anyone with me!?

Going to try calorie counting but open to suggestions. I currently eat far to much crap which is the root of the problem.

Hi elbacar - that’s a great loss so far.
I was on a similar thread last year and found it really helpful and supportive. I’d never dream of boring all my friends and family to death with such matters, so I do it on here instead! 😂

Octopus37 · 08/01/2020 14:44

Patchwork your lunch sounds ice, Well done to everyone who is managing to stick to it and lose. Today I had my usual breakfast and Asda Chicken Noodle and Chicken soup for lunch (240 calories). A good day so far but need it to continue. O, I ate one chocolate as well, so probably about 600 calories in total

wastingtimeworrying · 08/01/2020 16:15

Also blaming time of the month - always makes me hungry ! Trying to do dry january for an extra boost (but not 100% i will last the weekend)

Wineloffa · 08/01/2020 19:23

Well done everyone. I love reading all of your food diaries. I have to say I’m starting to struggle with the no booze thing, with the weekend looming I’m

L - potato and leek soup
D - prawn and veg paella (small portion)

Snacks - apple, banana

Drinks- 2 coffees, 2 mint teas, 2 L water

Exercise: Yoga and dog walk

toasterstrudle · 08/01/2020 19:26

Ate well today and made a great chicken and risotto from the Hairy Bikers cook book. 371 calories a portion. I’ve tried too attach it.
Am currently undoing all my good work with a bottle of SAN Miguel. Have had 3 stressful day’s in work and need to unwind or I will pop

Today - Breakfast - Two oat cakes with a small portion of flaked almonds
Lunch - Asda Chicken and Sweetcorn Noodle soup, 1 chocolate
Snacks - Twirl bar, 1 mini Babybel Light
Dinner - Slimming World Vegetable Biriyani ready meal

Will see what the scales say tomorrow on my birthday, not hopeful tbh even though I am eating fairly well.

jelly79 · 08/01/2020 20:21

Weigh in this morning (although I will do Mondays) and have lost 2.5lbs! 10.5lb to go....

B - 2 boiled eggs and an avocado
L - veg and lentil bake with lots of salad
T - pea and ham soup
Snacks - Apple, small curly surly, whole grain crackers and a quality street

Lots of water / coffee

Feel like I am moderating the chocolate grazing for now! Have a sick DC so hoping tomorrow won't throw me off track as I have a healthy weekend planned

Twixes · 08/01/2020 21:21

Weird day for me. I'd a dreadful nights sleep with my kids and then had to go for a snooze in the morning after bringing kids to childcare. I'm working from home at the moment and needless to say very little got done! I'm a disaster. At least when I'm sleeping I'm not eating?!

B: 3 spoons of Greek yoghurt and a few grapes
L: homemade tomato soup and one small slice of brown soda bread with butter
D: large plate of Mexican vegetarian bean stew with rice, guacamole and a dessert spoon of sour cream. It's hard to know how many calories for dinner but i was generous with my weight estimates so it comes in at 752

Total calories for the day 1141 but I slept for half of it, I even fell asleep in my sons bed after I told him his stories!! Maybe I'm getting the flu...

HippoHips · 08/01/2020 23:53

Twixies you’ve done well. That’s not very many calories. I would have guzzled my way through half the fridge if I’d had your day. I bet you’ve done better than you think.

My day was
Breakfast: coffee
Lunch: small Thai fish cake things and salad
Dinner: chicken sausages, brocolli and more salad
Snacks were all fruit.
According to MFP that’s 1200 calories which is my daily allowance but I did a big exercise class which apparently burnt 500.

Yet to see whether any of this translates to my scales, they’ll be going in a landfill with the hoofing chicken sausages if it doesn’t Hmm

Cliffordthebigreddog · 09/01/2020 06:37

Sorry I’ve not been on, I’ve been so busy all week!! I’ve just done my weigh in and in my first week I’ve lost 5.5lbs so I’m down to 9st 9.5lbs! I’m so pleased!!! And I’ve not felt hungry or deprived! Shows how much crap I was eating before if I can lose 5.5lbs in a week!!!

How is everyone else doing?

Octopus37 · 09/01/2020 06:57

Wow well done Clifford and everyone else. Not so good for me, another quarter of a pound up this morning, so total weight loss might by about a pound a half from heaviest (think that was on 2nd Jan), Did eat some chocolate yesterday but didn't fall off the wagon completely. Big gutted as its my birthday and really wanted a nice loss, really hoping that if I carry on I can lose some weight and that my body isn't stuck, tbh feel as if I don't even want to go out for a meal for my birthday now, but will go and be sensible. Will weigh in again on Monday

TheHoundsofLove · 09/01/2020 07:25

Wow - well done Clifford !
Happy birthday Octopus - I think that we have to focus on a general downward trend, so any loss is a positive thing. There's quite a lot of people on here that have been lucky enough to lose 4/5/6lbs in their first week, but it's not realistic for everyone to do that, especially when none of us really have that much to lose in the first place. Enjoy your birthday meal tonight and then crack back on tomorrow! Smile

Wineloffa · 09/01/2020 07:37

Happy Birthday Octopus. Go out and enjoy yourself tonight and get back to it tomorrow. You’ve lost a pound and a half in a week which is good going. You could lose that again by this time next week and the following and so on xx

Patchworksack · 09/01/2020 07:55

Happy birthday @Octopus! Have a lovely meal. 1.5lb in a week is good! Realistically you can only create enough calorie deficit in the medium term to lose 1-2lb a week. The big losses some people get early on are losing mainly water from making a big change which is encouraging but not sustainable. It's one reason people fall off the wagon when in week 2 or 3 they 'only' lose a pound. The whole diet industry sells us that we can lose half a stone every week rather than the more boring truth that a 500 calorie deficit a day for a week is 1lb of fat. Have whatever you fancy for your birthday meal and enjoy it.

toasterstrudle · 09/01/2020 07:57

Happy birthday Octopus! Dont feel disheartened by slower pace of loss, lots of factors can cause an initial fast drop, eg.

  • what your starting point was, if carb heavy you hold a lot of water which you drop on a diet
  • if you've been on a diet before, I've only ever done one before in 2017 so my body reacts well to calorie restriction
  • if youve upped your exercise, your body can try to hold onto weight for longer then have a sudden drop

That said, a calorie deficit will yield results so dont fret! I would have whatever you want for dinner tonight then be strict tomorrow, it's a weekly average of 3500 calorie deficit which is 1lb loss, not so much day to day.

Octopus37 · 09/01/2020 08:19

Thanks all for your birthday wishes and for the encouragement, its true that slower loss is better overall, just that bigger losses are so motivating. Its just that I'm normally such a big and I do worry that I have completely wrecked my metabolism. Don't know if I'm going out tonight as DS2 off school ill, so will see. Don't want to fall off the wagon too much today cause will be harder to get on. Thanks again for the encouragement, it means a lot

Twixes · 09/01/2020 10:47

Happy birthday Octopus! As pp said, the slower the better, it's more sustainable and realistic :)

Speaking of slow 1/4 of a lb off for me today. I'm breaking no records!

Plan for today is:

B: milky coffee
Mid morning: 2 boiled eggs
Late lunch: leftover bean stew
Late dinner: small portion of carbonara

Spinning class tonight 💪🏻

WellErrr · 09/01/2020 11:55

Hi everyone! Been on long shifts...

Well done everyone, love reading the meal plans, and happy birthday Octopus!

Feeling a bit disheartened today. This helped Patchwork -

I lost 5lbs first week which I know was just water etc...but now the scales are just stuck, despite me being mega strict.

Worse than that, my lower abdomen is bloated and flabby ever since my surgery. It was 2 months ago! Usually if I’d dieted like this I’d have a flat stomach again by now, beginning to think it’ll never happen!

I’m determined to keep going until the end of the month though. I’m 8st13lbs now but still feeling fat as this bloody tummy hangs over my jeans!

Anyway, sorry for the pity party but I can’t do it in real life Grin

My day yesterday -

B - yogurt and fruit 176cals
L - bean and salad wrap 450cals
D - 4 slices chicken sourdough pizza 520cals

Snacks - 2 bananas 80 cals each
Small bag choc buttons 70 cals

So 1386. And there was cake and chocolate galore at work which I resisted somehow..!

Today’s plan:

B - fruit and yogurt 176cals
L - falafel wrap
D - homemade lasagne

I really struggle with how to calculate calories for homemade stuff??

OP posts:
Twixes · 09/01/2020 12:06

I really struggle with the homemade stuff too Well, I try to overestimate as much as possible and try to breakdown a recipe into bits.

Don't be so hard on yourself on your tummy, I know I said it before but after a c-section it took aaaaages to go back to normal

WellErrr · 09/01/2020 12:19

I’ve had a few sections(!), I don’t remember it being like this! But I suppose it would have been, you just don’t notice with pregnancy weight/uterus/new baby.

Need to stop moaning, it was lifesaving surgery which I was very lucky to have access to, I suppose a flabby tummy is a small price to pay.

You’re right though! Thanks xx

TheHoundsofLove · 09/01/2020 12:24

Yes - counting calories for homemade stuff is a real pain. It’s one of the main reasons that I refuse to calorie count - I make almost everything from scratch and it’s such a chore to work it all out. In fact, I recently read about a study suggesting that calorie and points counting often leads people to consume more ready meals and convenience foods. Which I can actually well believe as it does make it so much easier.

TheHoundsofLove · 09/01/2020 12:32

Actually, it might just have said calories and not points...

Patchworksack · 09/01/2020 13:21

You can enter your own recipes in MFP - enter the raw ingredients and divide by how many portions it makes. It might be worthwhile for things you eat often. I found if I homecook sensible healthy meals then always worked out about 500-600 cals a portion for dinner. I know I can't be arsed to calorie count even medium term so I just try to be aware how much different foods contribute and read the labels on any packaged foods. My DH made dinner last night - I haven't really discussed being on a diet but he is obviously feeling it as he made the biggest carb-fest gnocchi and cheese with tomato sauce. It was not v appetising anyway once reheated and I didn't finish mine - I hope that says something about re-educating my preferences towards something more nutritious.
