Oh I'm not 'the long term slimmer' but I guess here's as good as anywhere to start thinking about it. Have finally accepted that I really ought to lose this baby weight since she's 10 months and it really is embarrassing. I wasn't skinny before but a curvy 14 and I was totally happy with that. So my resolutions are:

To walk for 40 minutes every lunch time
To give up booze in the week
to go back to no dairy (which is how I stayed a 14)
To cut back on bread (my downfall along with the above) and chicken skin and chocolate.

I only want to be a size 14 again!

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 17:45

Hiya www have to say only want to be a 14 is how I feel mostly although would settle for a 16 when I think of Marilyn in some like it hot!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 26/09/2004 17:49

And she was an American 16 which is a UK 18 isn't it? Or is it a UK 14?

KateandtheGirls · 26/09/2004 17:53

An American 16 is a UK 18.

I'm an American 14, but a UK 16.

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 19:34

Another myth smashed always thought she was a 16 here and now I have to be even thinner oh heck!

OP posts:
bran · 26/09/2004 19:42

No Glitter, it's the other way, she was actually an 18 here (although I don't think that can be right, she didn't look it). I always thought that the size had already been changed when they are mentioned here, so that she was a UK 16. (Garbled? Yes, but but I'm hungry and I can smell roast lamb)

I want to have Nigella Lawson's figure, but I don't think she up for a swap so I'll have to do it the hard way. I don't know what size she is, but she has a small waist that I can only dream of.

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 21:30

Great so my aim is higher again thanks bran! Agree about Nigella and did have that waist once now it is all one big mass!

Hello!!! how are you all?? have been avoiding you as my diet is starting to bug me (AGAIN!!!
I am so fed up. Although on a good note, went to cafe in M&S to treat ds1 and give ds2 so b/milk. decided to have a decaf latte and looked to see what they had, was eyeing up the most beautiful slice of victoria sponge cake, well umming and aahming I decided to leave it on the grounds that a) It was bound to be high in caloreis and points. b) It was £1.20 for a slice and I could get a whole cake for that price downstairs in the food hall...... so i just had my latte..... well I loged onto ww online and shock of all shock it worked so i signed up and went to look at m&s point values as eat alot from there. I looked up the cafe VScake and it was 13 POINTS A SLICE I was so glad I didn't get it.
Am peved with WW cos now it's not working again.

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 22:42

HIya Champs dont avoid us confess all. Why is your diet bugging you because it is boring or not what you want to eat or becuase you are not sticking to it?

Never mind I am back on mine today and went to the gym and have behaved very well. I will get out the whip if you want. WW online sounds a pain to me but better than the meetings in any case. Well done for not having the cake you see you do have willpower!

OP posts:
champs · 26/09/2004 22:54

lol!! that and am a cheapskate I'm gonna just get my money back from ww cos it's nothing but trouble.

glitterfairy · 27/09/2004 07:49

yes get your support here and pay us?????? We will be your weightwatchers online.

Seriously though take care friend and dont stay away we all have lapses it is the way of things my padua learner!

OP posts:
bran · 27/09/2004 16:30

Champs, don't WW do a home one by post? I can appreciate that you're p'd off though, and if you know all the info about points already then you can probably do it on your own. Well done resisting the Vic. sponge (there's been a lot of cake talk recently in my life, I'm getting cravings for some).

Glitterfairy is right, you should still come and talk to us even when you're reverting to fat bloater behaviour. If nothing else it'll make me feel smug for being good .

If you're fed up with dieting then maybe you should try and eat more. Make up a batch of zero point soup and freeze it in portion sizes (I keep meaning to do this but I'm too lazy), carry carrot sticks with you. You'll be the only mother around telling your child 'No those carrot sticks are for mummy, you have to have biscuits instead' .

champs · 27/09/2004 23:47

lololololol. Thank you both, needed that. Have been relatively good today. Roll on tomorrow, I will be even beter. Feeling better today. Did think about at home, it is very pricey tho more so than online as I can upgrade/restart for £29.95/9..... watch this space I have sent them an email.

bran · 28/09/2004 13:23

Or, you could buy the cd-rom that they sell which has a database of points and do it yourself if you wanted to save money. It's £19.99 from the on-line shop - but they say stocks are limited (so it may be a bit out of date, ie. not have the newest supermarket lines).

champs · 29/09/2004 00:04

yea, i saw that in the magazine. dont think it's up to date cos i remember it from way back, but it does have trackers etc. in there.... will think about it.

TraceyP · 29/09/2004 10:11

Hi guys, can I introduce myself as someone who has a serious (and I mean serious) amount of weight to lose and could do with a bit of support from some of you in the same position!

I have at least 11 stone to lose , I'm a size 26 bottom 32 top (so very jealous of wickedwaterwitch at size 14!) and have always struggled with my weight. I did Rosemary Conley for a while after dd was born and lost nearly three stone but when the class closed I put most of it back on again .

Are failed dieters who just need some encouragement to start again welcome here? And can you give me the kick up the rear end that I need to get myself into gear? Please??

bran · 29/09/2004 11:46

Everyone is welcome here TraceyP. It's not an impossible amount to loose, it'll just take time, and we are the long-term slimmers, so you're on the right thread . And when you've lost it, with your proportions you're going to look fantastic, like Jessica Rabbit .

I have about 7 stone to loose altogether, I've been doing WW and I've lost 12.5 lbs, but I'm going on holiday on Monday so we'll see if it's possible to put it all back on in only 2 weeks.

Anyone on here will be delighted to kick you on any part of your anatomy that you wish, but you will have to be the kicker sometimes too (especially for me when I get back from holiday).

Do you have any thoughts about how you want to lose the weight? I think everyone on this thread is doing a different diet, so there is plenty of variety of experience and advice. My personal belief is that all diets work so long as you stick to them, so the thing to do is find one that fits your lifestyle so you won't be tempted to give up.

fleurie · 29/09/2004 12:16

can i join too, got 3 stone to loose 12.10 and got a shed load of stress coming my way in the next 3 months and usually cope wiht food - was 3 stone heavier and used to have eating disorder managed to stabilise things but want to crack it once and for all - how long has this thread been going is it a run on from another?

TraceyP · 29/09/2004 14:51

Bran - Jessica Rabbit?? I wish. More like Roger Rabbit ...

I have found that the only way I have managed to lose weight before is through a combination of diet and exercise, so I'm going to try and get back into something like the Rosemary Conley diet - low fat - and try and boost my exercise. I'm too fat to join a gym (tried once and the reaction of certain other people there put me off) so I'm going to start with lots of walking and perhaps a couple of exercise videos (with all the curtains closed, of course). Once I start to feel a bit fitter I will maybe try a low impact exercise class.

I have weighed and measured myself today, and am really going to try hard. I'm glad people are happy to kick bottom here occasionally because I will need it (and yes, I can kick a bit of bottom myself too if need be).

bran · 29/09/2004 22:49

Hi Fleurie, welcome to you too. Instead of putting hand to mouth to relieve your stress you can put hand to keyboard and tell us about it.

This is a continuation of the previous long term slimmers thread, which itself was a continuation from the 10 stone or more to lose thread. Basically we all expect to be dieting for quite a while, even if my diet goes to plan it'll be over a year before I get to target weight , although I'm trying not to focus on that.

TraceyP, good on you for going back to the RC diet even if you can't get to a class. Moniker posts on here fairly regularly (although not for a few days now, come back Moniker) and she goes to RC classes. What exercise videos do you do?

champs · 29/09/2004 23:25

welcome traceyp and fleurie!! You are certainly in the right thread!!
Know what you mean about gym situation tracey. Try walking as a way of exercise, it is very effective and free!!
Bran--- Just thinking about how long it will take me to reach goal is depressing but we have to remember it took many years for it to go on!! and in the long scheme of things a year is much less than a life time of being unhappy with oneself (ooooo get me all philosophical like)

TraceyP · 30/09/2004 14:33

Bran, I've got a couple of RC videos and a (very old) WeightWatchers one with Mr Motivator (remember him??). I'm not very disciplined though so I will need to really get myself into gear. I used to find going to the class forced me into doing the exercises whereas being at home I can promise myself all week that I will ... I guess we've all been there!

Champs, I walk everywhere at the moment, the problem is I have to do most of it with the 3yo dd who has two paces - deal slow and stop! At least now that she is at nursery every afternoon I get at least the walk back home (uphill - pant) and the walk back to the nursery. It might not be fitness walking but it has to be better than nothing. I'd get more done, if only I could just get rid of this addiction to MN ...

glitterfairy · 30/09/2004 17:59

Welcome TraceyP and Fleurie. I go to a gym and cant be bothered with any looks from anyone else. Perhaps I am just very confident because sometimes I look in the mirror and lol at my hair plastered to my head and sweat trickling off my neck and dripping down my back!

We all have a lot to lose and gain on this thread and provide alot of support and reassurance for each other. We also have whips for the naughty ones which today equals me although went to the gym last night at the hotel but ate far too much and have a tummy upset today to prove it! Having been so good for so long my body has gone into revolt. Anyway tomorrow is another day!

Hello Glitterfairy - how's the travelling going? I hope everything is calm and serene at home.

Have you seen that SuzyWong has posted her brownies recipe on mumsnet? After I come back from holiday I'm going to have a few 'good' weeks and then I'm going to make them . I know I'm going to get horrible chocolate withdrawal symptoms for a while afterwards - but you'll all be here to help me through it (again).

glitterfairy · 30/09/2004 20:47

NO problem Bran. Everything calm in the glitter household. I sent the kids off to an early bed so I could have time with DH and at 8 he said he was tired and went to bed!!! he said he had been up last night till 12 putting in a joist in the loft??

So am here merrily getting away with a night on the computer without feeling guilty at all!
