Half a stone off (or 3kg) in May

VivaFrida · 30/04/2019 15:44

A fresh slate for May!

Carrying over from the April thread but new joiners are welcome.

Please join this thread - all plans are included (calorie counters, weight watchers, citizens of slimming world, intermittent fasters, no-carbers, eating-only-blue-food eaters).

We are here to support each other and aim to lose 7 pounds, or 3 kgs.

Official start: tomorrow, May 1st.

My starting weight for May is 60.0 kgs and getting to 57-ish kg or just under by the end of the month would be great.

Who is in?

I'm guilty of weighing myself everyday too. I try to look at it for science and not let it effect me in a negative way.

AhFurFoxAche · 03/05/2019 00:35

Congrats to all those who did so well today!

Day two slightly disastrous here. I had a migraine so slept most of the day, ate nothing but yogurt (does anyone else eat Isey Skyr? The apple one is really good) and crackers, then had to have a swallowing test where you swallow LOTS of this nasty, thick, chalk-like liquid which made me feel sick for the rest of the day. Still feeling slightly sick even at midnight. I’m determined that tomorrow will be loads better. Wish me luck... and motivation Grin

anotherBadAvatar · 03/05/2019 05:59

I weigh daily. Then plot it on the graph on MFP. I love looking at the downward curve when I’m feeling a bit unmotivated.

I went on a weekend trip with DD, and relaxed a bit a few months ago and relaxed my diet a bit, it was amazing to see that it stalled my weight loss for nearly 3 weeks afterwards.

Anyway-
B - coffee
L- fajita spiced salad
D- steak and spinach

Weight 29/4- 76.9
Weight 3/5 - 75.8

cricketmum84 · 03/05/2019 06:17

May start weight: 21 st 6lbs
Current weight: 21 st 4lbs

Wallywobbles · 03/05/2019 06:24

I have 17kg to loose so 3 stone. Just to get fat as opposed to obese. I've lost 3 kg so far. I e yo-yoed with my weight for 20 years sadly.

Somuchroom · 03/05/2019 07:14

Had a sneaky weigh in and wish I didn’t. Still at least it’s something.

May start weight: 9st 6lbs
Current weight: 9st 5lbs
Total loss: 1lbs

Good luck for today everyone. Smile

Buongiorno, bonjour, bom dia, buenos dias, guten tag and g'day all!

Star DAY THREE Star
my isn't time going fast?

Yesterday I found it a challenge to stay en pointe because I was working away from home, both stressful and active, was rather desperate for some chocolate but I am determined to lose the habit of having chocolate every day, even if it's a little bit and the sugar free variety, because often it opens the floodgates and then cannot stop eating. So I had a baked apple instead and finished the day exactly at 23 points. I also did a jump workout on waking and a total of over 23,000 steps so a rather good day.

This morning is more challenging, I am working away again, but further so had to wake up at stupid o'clock and only managed 10 minutes on the exercise bike before getting ready in a dash.

In other world news, I managed to miss my train in spite of being on the correct platform. I am such an idiot. Fortunately next train was shortly after but - what HUGE pillock I am!!

OhTheRoses your theory about 'men' being in all the worst things about women made me laugh out loud! Genius!

crazzycat & other who post recipes - yes please! It's really useful to create a data bank of lovely recipes.

My plan today is to bank 10-15,000 steps and stay on plan. More exercise loaded tomorrow as I have more time. Today is busy, so "just about managing" will be my target today.

Oh PP have asked about frequency of weighing. I try to weigh once a week (Sundays) but sometimes do 'sneaky peeks'!

I'm cautiously joining I've already lost 10kg (1st 8lbs) and 2lb away from my I initial goal weight but my end goal weight is 8st 9lb which is what I was when I got married and is 7lbs away! I'm finding it hard to lose weight now as I don't have that much left to lose and though my waist is getting slimmer coz I'm toning up my weight has stayed the same! I'm 58kg (9st 2lb) but I'm on the My fitness pal app and go to the gym twice a week (burn 500 ish calories) and do 90 mins waking (pushing a pram up hill for half of that and stopping the pram running away with me down hill for the other half) twice a week.
I'm not cutting out any major food groups just having smaller portions and have Edam instead of cheddar cheese, wraps not sandwiches, boiled egg whites no yolks, 1 slice of toast instead of 2, margarine not butter, brown pasta and rice instead of white and basically measuring my portions tho somethings like light oven chips I know 100 grams is 10 chips!!
I think just making small changes makes it easier to stick to and it seems to be working for me I started my weight loss journey in November got to a healthy weight by January - I'm 160cm almost 5ft3" but my staring weight of 10st 10 was 9lbs overweight for my height!
Also the no S is part of my eating regime which is no snacks, sweets or seconds! I occasionally have a snack or a tiny bit of chocolate but I put the calories in my app so I don't over eat!!

Rshard · 03/05/2019 08:32

I’m a mostly daily weigher too @lookingforpizza but a recent convert as I was worried about obsessing about the numbers and getting demoralised. I use the happy scale app, which shows the overall trend in your weight loss.

Managed an early morning run, first in a while so was a little hard going and rainy but it’s done and I feel good for doing it!

ooft · 03/05/2019 08:50

Can I join in too please? In a bit of a rut and have been loosely doing ww which is no longer working for me - thinking low sugar low carb - any meal suggestions? X

Crazzzycat · 03/05/2019 09:18

I’m another daily weigher.

My weight tends to plateau for a while, and then drops fairly dramatically.

Weighing weekly wouldn’t have allowed me to identify that pattern and possibly left me very frustrated in weeks when there’s no loss.

ImpossibleNovelty · 03/05/2019 09:21

Good morning all! Weighed in today (have a daily weighing app - weightdiarylite but never stick to it) and have lost .4 kgs.
Meals for today:
B - nothing (still full from yesterday’s quiche!)
L - more quiche and salad with avocado
D - ? Eating with friends (eek!)
Snacks - alcohol I’d imagine.
Not knowing what I’m having for dinner is a bit unnerving but I’m trying to make healthier eating a way of life rather than a diet so I’m going to need to be flexible.
ooft there are some fab meal ideas on the low carb bootcamp recipe threads (in the low carb bootcamp section).

WhenDoISleep · 03/05/2019 09:38

Morning everyone, I'm also a daily weigh-er - for me it a psychological thing I think, just keeping a eye on things, if the scale goes down it motivates me to keep strong and positive about food choices. Even it is goes up a bit, I know it is only temporary and it still motivates me. For actual weightloss per week, my Sunday weigh in is the number I use.

Another decent day for me yesterday, hoping for the same today. Weekends are harder food-wise, tomorrow will be difficult as we have a meal out for one of the DC's birthday.

AhFurFoxAche · 03/05/2019 10:10

Morning all! Daily weigh-er here as well. I’ve seen articles on the science behind it, as well as the studies, so that’s what I’ve stuck with. I think, for me at least, it’s because if you go over on calories, you see the evidence within a day or two and can self-correct, versus maybe continuing or ignoring for the rest of the week? You only have 52 chances to “correct” your behavior with weekly weighing, whereas daily weighing means hundreds per year. This article shows the results of a study of over 1,000 people where those who weighed weekly didn’t lose weight and those who weighed daily lost a “significant” amount: www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/11/181105081735.htm
BUT I also know some people can become obsessed with the numbers if they weigh daily (like gaining a half-pound, which could be water weight, can ruin your whole day) and it can really be tough on mental health, so a weekly weigh-in may be better.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 03/05/2019 10:11

Bit late joining, but I'd like to lose a couple of cm off my waist this month, which should be 2-3kg. Away with work this weekend though, which isn't a great start!

Evening sugar binges are my main issue, if i can dodge those I'll be doing well.

Current waist = 77cm (73 if i suck it in 😉)

ImpossibleNovelty · 03/05/2019 10:36

I found my old MyFitnessPal account yesterday and because I’m a bit of a geek I used info from that and my current app to graph my weigh over the last 7 years. Was a bit sad really to see how it’s been an issue for so long. Classic yo-yo dieting and then years of steady gain, finished with my recent steroids related ballooning Blush I hope I can continue the downward trend, this can’t be how I live the rest of my life.

Ratbagcatbag · 03/05/2019 10:38

Hello everyone.

I hope I can join in. I'm a few days late, but I've been trying on and off this week.

I really need 7lb off by the end of the month though so here's to a new slate.

FattySmith · 03/05/2019 12:11

Hello 👋

Can I join too please? I’ve been calorie counting with MFP since the beginning of October. I’ve lost 3st 8lb, have 1/2 stone to lose to get to the top of ‘healthy weight’ for my height etc.

MF ascist P says I should now only eat 1220 calories a day to lose 1lb a week- I’m finding that tough and am feeling hungry. Although I do ‘save’ calories for treats rather than eat it all in healthy meals..

I’d be delighted to reach a ‘healthy weight’ I haven’t been anywhere near that for over 10 years.

Well done on all you’ve achieved everyone- it’s not easy is it!

cakeaddict · 03/05/2019 12:14

I'm an 'official weekly weigh' but sneaky peeks in between just to check I'm vaguely on track, or motivate me to be good if it appears I'm not.

Weekends are my downfall, so the fact there's 3 days in this one coming up is a bit worrying. Off to have my haircut shortly - my usual treat afterwards is to visit the gorgeous bakery nearby for a treat and a bit of me-time... will have to see if I can resist - although maybe the weight lost due to haircut will compensate any cake-related gain!? Or is that wishful thinking....? Grin

Lookingforpizza · 03/05/2019 13:01

Hello all!
Happy Friday!!
I didn’t end up going for my jog this morning as it was raining and tbh I didn’t wake up feeling particularly fresh! Today’s food:
B: Alpen and fat free natural yoghurt
L: salmon salad
D: steak, quinoa and bulgar wheat with salad
Snacks: I treated myself to a skinny latte as it’s been difficult giving up my daily latte, and I’ve lost 2 lbs this week. I’ll most likely have some chocolate and an options hot chocolate later which will bring me to around 1400 cals.

Went for a walk at lunch time and have to walk to the supermarket later so I’m on target for steps and calories burned!

Hoping the weather okay tomorrow as we have a walk planned and if we end up staying in I’ll just eat the day away Blush

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 03/05/2019 13:20

@impossiblenovelty

I found weights on my medical records back from 2002 onwards from being pregnant. I plotted them all into MFP as well!

ImpossibleNovelty · 03/05/2019 13:52

@FunkyBarnYardBroom did you find it motivating or depressing? I’m more determined than I’ve ever been not to keep doing this stupid gain and lose weight cycle. It’s ridiculous.

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 03/05/2019 14:09

@impossiblenovelty

A bit of both really. I can see when I've been I'll had surgery etc which is generally when I've put on weight.

I've lost it then something else has required surgery. I am more motivated now this is the longest I've been on track really.

Let's get this done!
