A fresh slate for May!

Carrying over from the April thread but new joiners are welcome.

Please join this thread - all plans are included (calorie counters, weight watchers, citizens of slimming world, intermittent fasters, no-carbers, eating-only-blue-food eaters).

We are here to support each other and aim to lose 7 pounds, or 3 kgs.

Official start: tomorrow, May 1st.

My starting weight for May is 60.0 kgs and getting to 57-ish kg or just under by the end of the month would be great.

Who is in?

Thank you for all those tips vida. Your comment about periods made me laugh though. Am pretty sure this weight loss lark got ten times harder when they turned heel and ran off for good.

Funny though about the number of things sent to annoy women that contain men - menopause, menstruation ... there must be more!

DeadButDelicious · 02/05/2019 09:17

What does everyone do about calories earned through exercise? Do you eat them or try not to?

I try to not eat them. But they are handy to have as a buffer if you are particularly hungry that day.

ImpossibleNovelty · 02/05/2019 09:19

Good morning everyone. Nice sunny day here which will hopefully make it easier to turn down the stodgy comfort food.
@FunkyBarnYardBroom I’m very impressed with your discipline to stick to 1000 cals and it’s clearly having great results. I fear I’d be eating my own feet after a while of that, but then I’m thinking of trying fast 800 which is even lower so who knows!

Today’s meals:
B - nuts and babybel
L - left over fajita chicken and the sides (no tortilla)
D - crustless quiche and salad

Hope everyone has a good day!

teyem · 02/05/2019 10:02

I think I'm doing ok. I'm not counting calories, just trying to load up on really healthy food and crowd out the calorie dense stuff. I might need to up my game and start tracking thing more methodically if I don't see results but I'll give this a go first.

WhenDoISleep · 02/05/2019 10:07

Morning everyone, day 1 of my new start went pretty well. I ended up 125cals over my MFP allowance, but I tend to look at overall weekly cals as well so as long as I have a couple of slight deficit days it all evens out. Rediscovered my will power, which is a big thing for me - I am an emotional eater and when it is tough with the DC in the evenings I tend to reach for the junk food, but I resisted last night.

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 02/05/2019 10:23

@impossiblenovelty

It was difficult at first but 3 months in its now normal. I have some cheat days still but over the week I hope it evens out!!

YahBasic · 02/05/2019 10:42

Morning! I started last Monday as 11st 13 and weighed in at 11st 9.2 this morning. This is despite a McDonalds and a Chinese this week Blush

I’m aiming for about 11st 5 by my holiday in early June, but ultimately looking to be under 11st.

Startoftheyear2019 · 02/05/2019 11:34

Morning all. Ok day yesterday and really want to keep on track until after the bank holiday. I am sure this thread will help! I'm not going to weigh myself until Tuesday morning so fingers crossed.

Afternoon!
Today’s temptation was biscuits in a 2 hour meeting, which I managed to resist. Today’s food:
B: Alpen and yoghurt
L: chicken salad
D: Might get a low cal M&S ready meal as I am out this evening and wouldn’t mind a break from salad Blush

Going to try and take myself out for a light 20 minute run when I get home from work, as I’m having to work through lunch today so no time for a walk.

Okki · 02/05/2019 13:53

Hello. Today is going ok so far. Had a huge breakfast- 2 pieces of toast with scrape of salmon philly, scrambled eggs, tomato and couple mushrooms. Idea being that would keep me full until dinner. Except I've had to have an apple and little bowl of cereal as I'm starving. And have now been reminded I'm entering the eat everything in sight time of the month. Out for dinner at my mothers which will be boiled gammon joint but she always does me loads of veg so I shall fill up on that. I think for now as long as I manage to avoid crisps, chocolate and too much booze, I shall get into the right frame of mind. I really want to make sure I make long term changes and never put it back on again.

Millie2018 · 02/05/2019 14:02

I don’t eat the calories from exercise, I try and ignore them. Last night I went to a meeting between 7-9pm. Got a skinny decaf coffee on the way and didn’t eat anything when I got in. 30 mins tv, shower then bed. Slept really well.
I’ve got to stop eating my children’s food! I often ‘share’ their crisps or biscuits. I know exactly where I’m failing. Still feeling motivated and going to a Zumba class tonight.

shoelace88 · 02/05/2019 15:22

Good morning everyone! I didn't get a chance to check in yesterday but I stayed on track.

Breakfast: go lean cereal
Lunch: salmon and vegetables
Dinner: salad with chicken sausage
Snack: strawberries & peanutbutter, popcorn chips, & coffee
Workout: fitness blender on YouTube

Crazzzycat · 02/05/2019 15:26

Afternoon all. I’m feeling dreadful today. I’ve been like this all week, so it’s either a bug, or the dreaded hay fever! 🤧

In spite of that, I’ve already been on a 30 minute walk, prepared dinner and am planning a long walk after work. I’m feeling quite pleased with myself for being so organised and motivated today, in spite of a terrible head ache and low energy levels! Smile

Crazzzycat · 02/05/2019 15:33

I’m not sure if sharing recipes is appreciated here, or if it just results in all of us pining for food, but I recently came across this recipe for Mexican bean & cheese wraps.

www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetable-recipes/cool-mexican-bean-wraps/

They’re absolutely delicious, filling and only 415 kcal each 😋

Mssngvwls · 02/05/2019 15:34

Hello!

I'll join if you don't mind! I'm doing a sort of low-carb-lite plan (no bread, rice, pasta, potatoes or sweet stuff). I've been doing it for about 3 weeks and frankly I am blown away by the results! I've lost 8lbs so far, have another 11lbs to lose to be in the healthy BMI range. I just feel so much better. NO BLOATING. Totally life changing!

Sorry I don't mean to get evangelical about weight loss or food as I've always had a 'meh who cares?' attitude to it but I'm really taken aback by how I feel and how much I'm enjoying it.

Haven't had much chance to exercise the past few weeks as I have very small demanding kids but hoping to get out this evening.

Good luck to everyone for the month of May! Fingers crossed we can collectively make some progress towards our goals. Star

Rshard · 02/05/2019 19:04

Evening all, another good day here food wise. Day 2 done and dusted! Weekends can be tricky, is anyone planning ahead?

goldface · 02/05/2019 19:13

Am I too late to join? Am 9.1 and would like to get back to 8.11
What are your top tips?
How often do you weigh in? I fall in to a trap of weighing daily and then getting disheartened cos I haven't lost overnight!

ImpossibleNovelty · 02/05/2019 19:15

Good work Rshard Good day food-wise here too and a decent walk out with the dog too. If anyone’s low(ish) carbing and interested in a lunch/dinner idea, the crustless quiche was very nice and could be easily adapted (I swapped the suggested cheeses for cheddar). Recipe: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/232919/crustless-caramelized-onions-and-cheese/
I’m away with friends this weekend and a bit worried that it will all got to pot! But I’ll still avoid the bad carbs (except Wine and Gin) and get back on it as soon as I’m home.

Mixingitall · 02/05/2019 20:48

@goldface- I do that so have decided to not weigh myself, I need to focus on eating well and exercise, not on the number on the scale.

Today’s food:

Breakfast: Porridge with unsweetened almond milk, blueberries, honey and flaked almonds. 307 calories

Lunch: Eat Falafel protein pot. 354 calories

Dinner: Vegetable curry with rubber totamtoes, chickpeas, spinach, shallot, green and yellow pepper, aubergine, curry powder and garam masala. 168 calories

Snacks: Apple, banana and a can of G&T, 2 mugs of tea. 354 calories

Total: 1,175.

I’ve been in London today and walked rather than used the tube and 10,500 steps only equates to 105 calories. Perhaps I have been eating too much post excercise?!

DeadButDelicious · 02/05/2019 20:57

Evening all!

Not a bad day today, didn't get out for a proper walk with the dog, it's been raining on and off here all day and my period has landed with a vengeance so me, DD and the dog have had a lazy day.

On the plus side, I overestimated the size of my chicken breast at lunch so my calories today have clocked in at 1,539 rather than 1,558. It's only 19 cals but you gotta take the little wins in life haven't you!

Tomorrow is my official designated 'treat day' (I have one a week, I call it Fuck It Friday 😂) so I'm going out for lunch with DD and my mum and then to the museum to see the dinosaur. Playgroup first thing in the morning so that should make up for my laziness today!

Somuchroom · 02/05/2019 21:32

Good evening everyone! Had a good day food wise, no binging, however I’ve felt incredibly hungry all day. Have not gone for a run or done any exercise as I’m aching all over from last couple days, body needs a rest. Have just shared a small bunch of grapes with dh as he is hungry too! Early night for us with grumbling tummy’s! Might sneak in a weigh in tomorrow morning just to check!

Lookingforpizza · 02/05/2019 22:18

Does anyone else find weighing daily helpful? I know a lot of people tend to advise against it but if the scales haven’t gone down or they go up (which I completely understand is normal!) that just seems to give me more of a drive rather demotivating me. I was just wondering if I was in a minority with it?

Today has been another good day, 4 in a row! Sounds daft but I’m proud of myself, just need to keep on through the weekend which will be a challenge. Had some spare calories today so just having the last bit of Easter chocolate, tucked in bed with a book and a hot chocolate.

I want to try and get up early tomorrow and take myself out for a quick jog - something I haven’t managed to achieve yet (I am NOT a morning person!)

fruitpastille · 02/05/2019 22:28

Not too bad today.

B: porridge with tiny bit of syrup and banana
L: salad leaves with chicken and tbsp coleslaw. But also some crisps shared with kids!
D: chicken and chickpea curry with rice
Snacks: blue ribband choc biscuit and 1 square mint choc with my peppermint tea before bed. Plus normal tea.

Exercise: cleaned house, short walk and low key exercise class. I'm going to aim to not eat all my calories earned as pp advice above. I'm going to start off leaving 500 spare and see if that's enough to lose.

fruitpastille · 02/05/2019 22:34

@Lookingforpizza you have inspired me to jog first thing as well! But to take DS to hospital appointment tomorrow so have promised him nice lunch afterwards - need to earn some calories in advance. It's hard as DH sets off for work shortly after 7 so need to be back for then.
