VivaFrida · 30/04/2019 15:44

A fresh slate for May!

Carrying over from the April thread but new joiners are welcome.

Please join this thread - all plans are included (calorie counters, weight watchers, citizens of slimming world, intermittent fasters, no-carbers, eating-only-blue-food eaters).

We are here to support each other and aim to lose 7 pounds, or 3 kgs.

Official start: tomorrow, May 1st.

My starting weight for May is 60.0 kgs and getting to 57-ish kg or just under by the end of the month would be great.

Who is in?

I've really let things slip but this thread has been useful to keep me vaguely on track for the month. I agree that aiming at 1000-1100 calories is a great way to lose. I will start that on Tuesday for a final burst before the end of the month. @VivaFrida can you keep going for June? I'd really like to keep going and you've done a great job inspiring me through May.

VivaFrida · 26/05/2019 14:16

Startoftheyear2019 I'll be delighted to!

G'day all on

Star Day 26 Star

Today I feel awesome as I ran over 10 miles in the morning and then I went for a long walk (5 miles) with the kids in the afternoon... total of 15 miles. Smile Not bad considering I have been back running only for a couple of weeks!! Smile Smile Smile

Weight: 58.3kg. Yes I am running lots but I am eating more = no weight loss!! Blush

SO.

Action.

tonight later on I am going out for late lunch/early dinner later on with da fam to celebrate my DS1 passing his exam and voting for the first time...

BUT

from tomorrow I will resort to cutting a bit more calories just for a few days because I want to get to 57kg for the month... even if it's 57.9kg

(pathetic I know this reliance on numbers)!

OhTheRoses that recipe sounds delicious!

Well here we are! My last official weigh in of the month of May and I did it! 3kg off! Making my total loss so far this year 3.102stone.

Thank you, all of you, so much! Having somewhere to come to talk about this has been such a massive help. The support has been wonderful.

May is a rough month for us. Our first daughter would of been 4 this month, we lost her late into pregnancy and this time of year is usually when I fall into a pit of comfort eating because that's what I've always done when I'm sad. Don't get me wrong, I've had my moments but I've done so much better than I thought I would. So sincerely thank you. I can't wait to see what we all achieve in June.

1/5/19: 126.2kg

6/5/19: 125.5kg

12/5/19: 125.0kg

13/5/19: 124.6kg

20/5/19: 125.2kg

21/05/19: 124.2kg

27/05/19: 123.2kg

Loss so far in May: 3.0kg!!!

Weight at beginning of the year: 142.9kg
Total loss so far: 18.7 kg (3.102 stones/43.431lbs)

I'm up to 594 minutes out of my 720 minutes of exercise so I need to do 25 minutes exercise a day for the next 5 days to hit that target. Which I fully intend to do. I like those little Apple Watch award badges. Grin

I plan to take what I've learnt this month and really run with it. I can do this. We can all do this.

OhTheRoses · 27/05/2019 09:45

Well done deadbutdelicious.

Similar happened to us 22 years ago and gradually it hurts less - I promise.

Wellthatwastricky · 27/05/2019 13:24

Deadbutdelicious and Roses, I am so very sorry for your losses Thanksit happened to a friend of mine, and it's heartbreakingly cruel.

Well done on the good work.

I caved and had sod it Sunday, had a Chinese, and now paying with it with a 1lb gain and a residual desire to stuff my face with sugar, fat and salt.

QRCode · 27/05/2019 13:54

I had a sod it Saturday, triggered by regaining the 200g I had lost over the preceding two days, which had put me exactly back at my weight the Saturday before, grrrr. I have paid for it with a 900g/2lb gain which is going off so slowly that I will be lucky if I get back to Saturday's weight again by my end of week 4 weigh in on Wednesday.

In the hope of fooling my body into doing something constructive, I have just run a fasted 8.5km and I have my fingers crossed it does the trick.

Hope you are having a good bank holiday. Normal working day here but have just found out that we have all of next week off when we were expecting only three days Grin

OhTheRoses · 27/05/2019 14:08

May loss so far is 3lb. :(

ImpossibleNovelty · 27/05/2019 17:46

My May loss is also 3lb ohtheroses. But at least we’re not gaining. There’s definitely been days that I would have said ‘fuck it’ and eaten for England for the rest of the week if I hadn’t been on this thread. So I’m counting it as a win! And also hoping to shift an extra pound by the end of May, let’s see how that turns out Grin

Ladyyoyo · 27/05/2019 21:33

Hi BillyPribble, Pickslim method is a low carb method, with high protein products to feel satiated. I am completely agree with you : it is key to be able to keep having a normal meal at least to enjoy family or friends diner. I am following lifestyle plan: I maintain one normal meal, Pickslim team helps me to balance my diet. However, I have to confess that that kind of method helps me , as every time I tried classic diet , I crack on after few days or one week. And after, I always thought because I cracked on, I let things down . Because Pickslim give you the possibility to have some extra, it is more flexible, and more adapted to my lifestyle and my personality. Hope I clarified. Take care

Sourdoughpizza · 27/05/2019 21:40

Flowers deadbutdelicious and roses.

Had a lower calorie day weekend. Decided Monday is weigh-in day. I lost a pound, hooray. Total for May 4.5lb.

Today:
Porridge
Home made sweet potato and carrot soup
Brown risotto rice with shellfish (this looked like it was going horribly wrong and I almost binned it and went to the kebab shop, perservered and it worked out very tasty)

Snacks: buckwheat cracker and peanut butter

Plan for next week - attempting to watch calories again and get a few fitness classes in.

Have a good week everyone!

Crazzzycat · 28/05/2019 10:54

I’ve been away for a few days and went more than a little bit off-plan. I did lots of walking on both days though, so am keeping my fingers crossed any gains will be minimal. If not, at least I had a good time! Smile

ImpossibleNovelty · 28/05/2019 22:10

It’s been quiet in here today! I hope everyone is doing ok. Not a bad day for me foodwise but we’re desperately in need of a food shop so the menu is getting rather strange. Burger with curried lentils for dinner today Shock Need to stock up on nice lower carb veg!

Wellthatwastricky · 28/05/2019 22:34

Weigh in day for me, still 1lb up thanks to cavalier attitude on Sunday, but overall 2lb loss over the week.

It means I've lost 9lbs in May.

It's my birthday later this week, so realistically this is as good as it's going to get for May, as there will be less than healthy food and alcohol consumed. I've also just started a wee's course of antibiotics which need me to eat four times a day - I've only been eating lunch and dinner so this is going to bugger up my metabolism and make me hungrier I expect.

QRCode · 29/05/2019 05:41

Weigh in day for me and after a weekend blip I've managed to lose 0.7kg, bringing the total to 4.2kg this month. I'm not sure I'll make my 5kg goal by next Tuesday as we are out for dinner at least once between now and then, but I'm still the lightest I've been since about September last year and only 300g away from going below the next kg boundary.

Have a good day, everyone. Always quieter on here in school hols!

VivaFrida · 29/05/2019 07:03

OMG I have missed

Star day 27 Star
which was a great day - went on an outing with the kids, stayed in plan, exercised and did about 20,000 steps and then yesterday....

Star day 28 Star

was a flipping DI-SAS-TER!! I received the final reader report on a collection of essays I am doing with a colleague (first text on an important subject, we have written a chapter each and a humongous introduction, and we have 10 extra contributors writing a chapter each). The report was good - still, I had to write to all the authors suggesting the (minor) changes, and, together with my co-author, devise a response for the publisher. Whilst i was in the middle of it I received the final proofs of an article with 24 hours request to turn them around! So yesterday I did a 12 hour day - basically not moving from the desk, in my jammies until midday and eating myself stoopid. I hate hate hate myself when I do that, but when faced by these days of binge-writing I seem to respond with binge-eating!! Anyway, publisher has accepted our response, authors are happy to make some changes and we have a final publication schedule for April 2020. But I need to look hard and long inside me and make changes in my life because I can't take this way of life - I am a good researcher, I make discoveries and am an articulate writer, but the toll it takes on my life, on my mental health and wellbeing is just too much. It makes me positively unhappy.

Anyway it's another day!!

Star Day 29 Star.

Today of course I am disgusted by food and feel slightly queasy. Fortunately I am travelling away for work (I absolutely love the practical aspects of my line of work... I think I need to concentrate on those!) and an active day awaits me! I really want to put yesterday behind me and move on.

May has been challenging. Probably I'll close the month at the same weight that I started. I'll take it on the chin and move on for June. We all have our challenges.

cricketmum84 · 29/05/2019 07:09

Fantastic news about the publisher @VivaFrida!!! You should feel so proud of yourself!

I must admit I do the same when I work from home, end up putting in a 12 hour day instead of an 8 hour day and eat bread and biscuits!! Look it's one day out of 31 this month so don't be too hard on yourself.

My day looks kinda like this:
B - banana and an iced almond latte
L - leftover jackfruit chilli (0pts) with a little cous cous
D - haven't decided yet, probably leftover chickpea curry from the freezer.

The kids are still away with GPs so we may call for a cheeky beer garden half hour on our way home from work.

My anxiety has been super high the last few days, I keep getting random chest pains and breathlessness whilst at work and am fighting the urge to have a sick day Cos I know it will be worse when I go back in, for me it's a case of fighting it and proving to myself that I'm not going to have a heart attack or faint and that actually I AM OK. If I keep running away I never learn this! Wish me luck that today goes better xx

Lookingforpizza · 29/05/2019 07:48

Morning all! Haven’t had chance to read back yet as I’ve had a few days off the thread (and eating healthily!). Bank holiday weekend ended up being lots of eating and little moving. I’m getting back on track today and have weighed myself this morning, coming in at 80.6 kg. It’s only a 0.2 kg loss for this week but with the way I’ve eaten, I’ll take it! Hoping to knock off this last 0.6kg for Friday so going to be strict and drink lots of water and get as much exercise as possible.

Good luck everyone, we’re almost there!!!

BrillyPribble · 29/05/2019 08:14

Weigh in for me today, down another 1.5 lbs! Given that I've eaten out twice this week, I'm really happy with that. I've been tracking for 3 weeks and lost 5lbs so far.

Sourdoughpizza · 29/05/2019 19:19

Mid-week check-in. Great progress everyone.

VivaFrida my job can be a bit like that. I've actually been off with stress for a month because of it. I go back next week. I so know what it's like when you need every minute to meet a deadline. Not sure what my coping strategy will be - I need one! I am starting therapy this week so if I have any brainwaves I'll share them!

Little things like having an exercise ball to sit on or roll over on can be quite helpful, to get away from the desk. Dangling is good for concentration!

Healthy (ish) binge snacks - raisins, grapes, seeds, pistachios, corn chips, chocolate rice cakes, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, olives, sliced apple and cheese, sugar snap peas, popcorn (I must remember this list!)

cricketmum do you take any natural remedies for anxiety?

Have been feeling quite hungry today, resisted a few urges! Not stressing too much as peeked at scales and they are being kind.

B: Porridge and bloobs
L: Veggie burger from freezer and salad (chucked a lot on - walnuts, feta) with...banana ketchup! Had to use it up - chock full of sugar though but delicious
D: Homemade chicken and lentil soup

Snacks: corn crisps, wholemeal toast and marmite

So far this week have been to water aerobics and an abs class, plus more walking.

I've cut down fruit to 1 - 2 portions a day, this seems to be helping sugar cravings.

cricketmum84 · 29/05/2019 19:41

@Sourdoughpizza I am on ADs to try control it and also take beta blockers. Most herbal remedies advise not to take alongside my current medication.

I'm feeling sorry for myself tonight as I have had earache for days and it's really draining me! Went to the doctors after work and I have glue ear! I didn't even know that adults could get it! It hurts and I want a hot water bottle and comfort food.

OhTheRoses · 29/05/2019 22:15

Some of you have such great losses!
