A fresh slate for May!

Carrying over from the April thread but new joiners are welcome.

Please join this thread - all plans are included (calorie counters, weight watchers, citizens of slimming world, intermittent fasters, no-carbers, eating-only-blue-food eaters).

We are here to support each other and aim to lose 7 pounds, or 3 kgs.

Official start: tomorrow, May 1st.

My starting weight for May is 60.0 kgs and getting to 57-ish kg or just under by the end of the month would be great.

Who is in?

Well done on that loss wellthatwastricky!

My official weigh in is tomorrow and I’m hoping for a loss big enough to finally get me past that 80 kg barrier. I only need to lose 0.2 kg, so I’m not exactly aiming high Grin

I started today off with another session on the cross trainer, so feel like I’m already winning 💪

I’ve found that exercising in the morning is helping me so much with my anxiety, much more than my usual afternoon sessions. No idea why that is, but the downside is that it’s a bit difficult to combine with 16:8 as it means I’m exercising in the middle of my 16 hour fast.

It’s early days, but every session I’ve done so far has left me pretty shaky and feeling a little rough. I’ll see if that gets any better, otherwise I may have to stop the 16:8 and go back to normal calorie counting 🤔

Apologies for the stream of consciousness here. I’m just trying to work out how to get the most out of my new exercise routine Grin

Crazzzycat · 21/05/2019 10:28

DeadButDelicious I too am starting to think that weighing every day isn’t always that helpful. It’s a hard habit to break though.

But you are so right that we are much more than the numbers on the scales. It’s an easy thing to forget when we’re in the middle of all this weightloss lark Smile

Lookingforpizza · 21/05/2019 12:50

Well done on losses guys!

I’m in dire need of some motivation today, rumour going around the office that a team meeting last thing today is going to be a restructure and redundancies announcement. The office atmosphere is awful today and there’s just been a bit of an argument as well. Why is my first thought always comfort food in these situations? Sad

Today’s food if I stick to it is:
B: Berry muesli and yoghurt
L: Chicken salad
D: Salmon, bulgar wheat and quinoa with salad.
Snacks: Latte, Maltesers, hot chocolate.

Brings me to 1150 for the day. Trying to be strict for tomorrow’s official weigh in, I’m only 0.4kg away from hitting 80! Grin

Crazzzycat · 21/05/2019 13:33

Oh no LookingForPizza that sounds terrible. That must have really brought down the mood in the office today. I hope it all works out ok for you.

I wish I had some wise words on how to handle this from a food perspective, but I don’t. I’m sure you already know that eating lots of stuff will only make you feel better for a short period of time, if at all.

What helps me sometimes when feeling the urge to stress-eat is to just keep repeating to myself that I’m stronger than those voices in my head. And also finding something to distract myself, like going for a walk, but that may not be that easy to do if you’re at work!

Lookingforpizza · 21/05/2019 13:41

Thanks @crazzzy you’re right. I took myself a walk which has helped! The speculations are getting a bit wild now so I’m thinking it’s probably people making mountains out of molehills - I already have my eye on other jobs already given other issues here.

I am getting better at resisting food when I am down, and you’re right it’s a case of winning out the voices and knowing I’m stronger!

ImpossibleNovelty · 21/05/2019 14:23

Great work on the morning exercise crazzy. Shame it doesn’t fit well with the 16: 8 though. Could you move your eating window earlier or would that not work with the rest of life? Maybe I’ll try a morning walk to see what that does with my anxiety.

Sorry you’re having a stressful time at work lookingforpizza. I think it’s really hard when a major (maladaptive) coping strategy is taken away. I was/am a major comfort eater. If I’m stressed and want to binge I try to tell myself ‘If I crumble and scoff XYZ then nothing will change except I’ll still be stressed and I’ll be even fatter’. Doesn’t always work though Blush

Hello all on

Star day 21 Star

Just quickly reporting that when I started 'looking after myself again' at the end of February one my first important 'interim' goal was to be 59kg at my organisation's conference, today, where I gave a paper.

I am chuffed to say that I gave a paper weighing 58.5kg, my paper went well and it opened up to new projects and new work possibilities.

Food-wise all good! I had my usual breakfast and then a larger than usual lunch (and some cake may have also been consumed!) but I also did just over 17,000 steps, a spin class on youtube very early this morning, and I am too full for dinner so I hope, everything considered, to be still on track.

Next interim target: 57 kg for my family wedding next month (20th June).

Let's Keep On Keeping On, buddies!

Sorry I have read back properly yet and replied to anyone. I'll do this later from home as on train back now.

BrillyPribble · 21/05/2019 20:19

Can I join in? I'm rather late to this, I just started using MFP almost two weeks ago. I started at 14 st 7 lb and lost 2.5 lbs the first week, second weigh in tomorrow.
I'm menopausal and have a chronic illness which makes exercise really difficult so my weight has gone up and up the last few years. I'm feeling well enough to tackle it now though but I want to make it a lifestyle change so it's sustainable. MFP has suggested a 1500 calorie limit a day so I'm sticking to that and broadly following 16:8 most days too.
It's really going well at the moment, feeling good and eating lots of salad.

OhTheRoses · 21/05/2019 22:57

That must have been a very heavy paper viva

Apols, full of wine, having blown diet Smile.

Lookingforpizza · 22/05/2019 08:08

So the work situation turned out to be nothing much. I felt pretty drained after from all the drama really. Dreading work today but on a positive note - I broke into 80kg! I weighed in at 80.8 this morning, which is a 2.9lb loss this week and 7.9lb overall!

Hoping to get sub 80 by the end of the month and then I will be well on target for my overall goal. Thanks for all your support guys, it’s really helped and it’s so good to have this thread to turn to.

Today’s food:
B: Berry muesli and yoghurt
L: Chicken salad
D: Salmon, sweet potato and salad
Snacks: Latte, hot chocolate chocolate and banana.
Should bring me to around 1300 cals.

Exercise will be a 2.5 mile run at the gym plus a 40 min walk at lunch time.

Feeling much more motivated today Grin

ImpossibleNovelty · 22/05/2019 10:06

Good news about the work thing Lookingforpizza - phew. And congrats on your fab loss Star
I’m happy to finally see some downward movement on the scales - 75kgs today so a total loss of about 1.5 kgs in May. A bit crap but there have been a couple of blips that pushed the scale back up so I’m probably lucky to have lost at all. Much of my motivation is due to this fab thread, so thanks all!

Crazzzycat · 22/05/2019 10:17

It’s time for my weekly weigh in and ...I’m 79.7! I’ve finally broken through the 80 kg barrier 😭 (

Lookingforpizza · 22/05/2019 10:38

Aww @crazzzy that’s fantastic! Well done!!! You can do it, I’m sure Grin

A loss is still a loss @impossible so well done - life gets in the way sometimes, it happens, just keep going!

VivaFrida · 22/05/2019 10:56

Good morning all,
welcome to

Star day 22 Star

Crazzzycat - congratulations!! You have achieved so much!! Superstar!! Star Star Star Star Star!

Thank you for your kind words murmuration and good wishes for your struggles! I would not be able to not have dinner with my family as a regular occurrence (I can do it occasionally, yesterday I came home and did not have dinner as was still full from the conference lunch/cake). I function best having regular meals, breakfast, lunch & dinner and no snacking in between. my weight loss does speed up in the occasions when I eat more at breakfast and lunch and have only a light supper but... I'd rather have supper than fast weight loss!

Have fun at the conference OhTheRoses - mine was great fun!! And you made me laugh about your comment about my heavy paper!! I did not realise how stupidly I have worded that sentence. Lol!!

Glad to hear the work emergency was fake news Lookingforpizza and also glad you have broken into the 80s!!

Congrats also to Wellthatwastricky for having achieved the month's 7 pounds goal!!

ImpossibleNovelty I also haven't lost much this month but it looks like it's finally picking up a little so persevere darling, it adds up.

And welcome to BrillyPribble! Many of us are doing some form of calorie counting.

Right, now, moi! I am pleased to say that the conference has not dented wi weight loss, in fact today I weighed

58.1kg

I have lost 1.9kg this month, there are 9 days left in the month and I hope to get near to 57.0 by the end of the 31st.

I am travelling for work for the rest of the week; that always presents threats to the healthy eating regime but also gives me the opportunity to do things my way without depending form my family's schedule and dietary requirements and desires.

I hope to fit in a couple of runs as the weather is nice, and perhaps have one or two youtube workouts in my room.

My plan is also to have lighter dinners in my room, get up early to exercise and approach the hotel buffet with an attitude of cleverness!

I am onto this!

Well done viva and congrats to everyone on their losses.

We had an event at school last night that led to me eating stuff carbs I wouldn't normally have so I wasn't surprised to see a small upward blip on the scales this morning. However, my weekly result is still 0.6kg down and 3.5kg this month so I'm pleased with that overall. 13 days and 1.5kg left to reach my interim target, so keeping my fingers crossed.

DeadButDelicious · 22/05/2019 13:35

Well done for all your losses this month! You're all doing so well! I'm really hoping I hit my goal of 3 stone total loss, with 9 days to go I'm quietly confident.

I'm quite pleased with how this week is going, I've not gone above 1400 a day so far. Plenty of vegetables, keeping an eye on the carbs and making sure I hit my protein goal everyday. I'm still having Fuck It Friday but not going as crazy on it as I have been.

Lookingforpizza · 22/05/2019 16:37

Well done @viva and thank you for keeping the thread going. I’m already looking forward to June’s thread!

@QRCode that definitely sounds achievable, I’m sure you can do it! Same to you @deadbutdelicious

Do we do a post on the final day to compare start of month and end of month figures - I think this is the first thread I’ve committed to Grin

sazzle27 · 22/05/2019 23:30

Well done on all losses!

Feel like a broken record but a rubbish day here for me..
lunch out after a blood test where no healthy options really available..and a celebratory dinner out followed by ice cream to celebrate an offer on the house!

Back on it tomorrow 👍🏻😁

OhTheRoses · 23/05/2019 01:16

Having a lovely conference. Diet may have gone out of the window. Have controlled food but not the liquid benefits. Good time though. Perhaps I can just starve Fridsy through Tuesday Hmm

shoelace88 · 23/05/2019 01:40

Good job on all the losses!

Quick check in for me. I'm doing great this week with food and exercise. Unfortunately, our AC system went out and we have to buy a whole new unit. Louisiana is not the place to not have AC, especially in the summer. Its been miserable here for the last few day.

Breakfast: fruit and coffee
Lunch:salad
Dinner: chicken salad
Snack: yogurt and fruit
Workout: fitness blender

VivaFrida · 23/05/2019 09:06

Morning!

Star Day 23 Star

Super speedy check in for me as I am away!

As you know, being away from routine is always a danger for healthy eating regimes - I am managing - did ok yesterday and workout in the morning and evening plus over 14,000 steps. This am woke up early and did 1 hour workout and chose healthily at breakfast - it did help that there was a group of people in my same hotel who were all very, very large and eating very, very large amounts. A reminder of the clear cause/effect relationship of food!! I am absolutely not eating like a baby rabbit, I had eggs, tomatoes, sugar free alpen, fruit and yogurt. That was still a fair amount of cals/points!

Have a lovely day all!

OP posts:
Lookingforpizza · 23/05/2019 09:27

Aw no @shoelace how long will you be without your AC?
Well done staying on track @viva it must be so tempting when you’re away from home and out of your normal routine!

Loads of cakes and chocolate in the office today and I am trying to resist but it’s so hard not to nibble here and there and before you know it, that’s an extra 400 calories! I had a good active day yesterday and ended up with a 2000 cal deficit. I need to “borrow” some calories as I am out for a meal tonight!
Today’s food:
B: Alpen and yoghurt
L: Chicken salad
D: out for tea, the restaurant I’m going to has calorie info so I’m opting for lasagne and sharing a starter with a friend (it’ll still be 1000 cals but hey ho)
Snacks: As little as possible Blush
