A fresh slate for May!

Carrying over from the April thread but new joiners are welcome.

Please join this thread - all plans are included (calorie counters, weight watchers, citizens of slimming world, intermittent fasters, no-carbers, eating-only-blue-food eaters).

We are here to support each other and aim to lose 7 pounds, or 3 kgs.

Official start: tomorrow, May 1st.

My starting weight for May is 60.0 kgs and getting to 57-ish kg or just under by the end of the month would be great.

Who is in?

Hey all :)

I will post my weigh in tomorrow, hoping for a good 2lb loss this week which I seem to be on target for.

A bit wobbly over the weekend with being out quite a lot and socialising, but I stuck to my calories as best I could. Yesterday I went a bit mad, we went to a little village for a walk but the walk wasn’t very long and we had coffee/cake before and after. I was probably looking at maintenance yesterday. Trying to be extra good today so the scales don’t let me down tomorrow Wink

Breakfast: Alpen and yoghurt
Lunch: Small chicken salad
Dinner: homemade bolognese with sweet potato
Snacks: Yoghurt and fruit dessert, hot chocolate.

I worked out yesterday that a 6kg loss would put me at my lowest ever adult weight, and that feels really achievable.

Good luck to everyone, keep with it, you’re all doing really well!

Lookingforpizza · 07/05/2019 14:36

Does anyone else’s friends/family struggle not get that they are trying to lose weight?

Met a close friend over the weekend and had a long chat about how I’m so upset about my weight gain but I’ve really committed to sorting it out now and had a really good start. She was very much “oh we’re all on a diet” while drinking 10 cocktails Hmm and has now asked me if I want to go out for dinner tomorrow as she has a voucher. The place she’s invited me to isn’t particularly a place where you can opt for a healthy alternative iyswim. I feel bad because she’s a fab friend and I love spending time with her. I think it just niggles at me sometimes that the only options ever seem to be go for food, go out for drinks when spending time with friends.

Rant over Grin

Crazzzycat · 07/05/2019 14:37

I’ll also be doing my “official” weigh in tomorrow, but just wanted to share that today was the first time I’ve seen an 80 on the scales. Unfortunately, it was followed by a .9, but I’m still pretty excited.

Breaking through that 80 kg barrier will feel like such an achievement and I’m so tantalisingly close!

In other news, I measured my waist this morning and it’s now 34 inches, down from over 40 at the start of the year.

I’m just writing this down now, as there’s a bag of crisps in the cupboard that is calling (or is that screaming!) my name. I must be strong and not give in 😂

Crazzzycat · 07/05/2019 14:44

I know what you mean lookingforpizza. I’m fortunate to live somewhere that is great for outdoor activities as I’m discovering after only a decade of living here

I’ve been successful in getting some of my friends to join me on walks instead of eating and drinking, but others are a lot more reluctant. It’s understandable I guess, as it’s really just my own personal choice to go on a diet and I can’t force my lifestyle change on anyone else, but it would be great to feel a little bit more supported.

snooksmcgee · 07/05/2019 14:59

Lookingforpizza - YES! I think the reason why it's working at the moment is because my husband has been on a diet too, otherwise he sabotages my diet by suggesting takeaways.

Worst is MIL though, a few years ago I lost quite a bit of weight and was doing really well, It was Easter time and I told her I didn't want any easter eggs. A week later she passes me a gift bag with half a kilo of fudge in it. Her rationale was that I said i didn't want easter eggs, I didn't mention anything else. She spends her whole life dieting and denying herself any treats, so sadly she knew exactly what she was doing.

Lookingforpizza · 07/05/2019 15:50

Glad it’s not just me @crazzzycat and @snooksmcgee Grin

I live in a big city and tend to socialise in evenings so it’s not easy to do stuff that isn’t food/drink related. My friends are lovely but would very much take the piss if I turned down something because “ I’m dieting”. I’d never want them to feel as though they couldn’t do what they wanted to do though!

I am lucky that my DP is very outdoorsy and eats very healthily. He’s got me into running and I’ve learned some fab healthy recipes from him. He’s also very supportive but on the flip side, doesn’t always believe me when I say yes, I have done the maths and I do have 250 cals to spare on this chocolate bar, thank you! Angry

Startoftheyear2019 · 07/05/2019 18:59

Well done everyone! Viva I love your enthusiastic posts each day. I wish I was ROARing! I've been super good today but I'm off out to book club shortly and that involves eating and drinking. I'm not weighing myself until Friday in the hope my weight will shift by a pound or two.

Ladyyoyo · 07/05/2019 19:04

Hi all, well done everyone for the efforts done so far! For me,
I started this morning with 1 vanilla shake and some strawberries, for lunch 1 MRP spaghetti bolognese, and in the afternoon, I had a chocolate bar. And for tonight, I have a low calorie meal with chicken and green beans, plus some strawberries left!! I have to say so far that products are good, I was happy to have my early diner as I was hungry. I chose the option to have 1 meal a day to maintain diner with my family. Fingers cross I will have some pounds less tomorrow!!

Wellthatwastricky · 07/05/2019 19:16

It really does help to see how everyone is getting on. I didn't post yesterday as frankly it all went wrong in the evening and I didn't even dare estimate the calories BlushI also weighed myself and have gained 1.5lb BUT the main thing is I'm back on it today despite only getting three hours sleep thanks to teething toddler.

My food today

Vegetable and barley soup
Fat free yoghurt
Two chocolate biscuits
Huge serving of roasted veg with a small portion of pasta and feta

I should be about 200 under but might indulge in two squares of dark chocolate after.

Two food things that I love right now are Borderfields rapeseed spray - it's not an emulsion like frylight etc but less than 2cals per spray, gets great results and tastes nicer. The other is Waitrose fat free chocolate frozen yoghurt, only about 80 cal a serving and tastes full fat. Heartily recommend for those seeking a chocolate fix.

fruitpastille · 07/05/2019 19:30

Bloody back up a pound and a half. Pissed off!

Lookingforpizza · 07/05/2019 19:45

Aw no @fruitpastille - could just be water weight that will fall off overnight?

RiveterRosie · 07/05/2019 19:58

I've lost one and a half pounds this week. I was hoping for two pounds, but the good news is that I've managed to get control of my snacking since the weekend.

VivaFrida · 07/05/2019 21:30

Crazzzycat that is brilliant - and I hear you, I have the same feelings for 'sub 60' ... I have seen flickering a 59.9kg last week which has disappeared since... and at 59.50kg I will be at 75% of my goal so I SUPER want it (but not enough to stop eating sugarfree mini chocolate eggs apparently).

Well done for getting back on track Wellthatwastricky - thank you for these tips - I use a olive oil spray, not chemical emulsion like that DEVIL's spawn fryoil, it's just olive oil on a spray! Olive oil can actually be used drop by drop with a pipette and will not add many more calories, but it's a lot healthier and flavoursome than the chemical emulsions. I also have some oregano flavoured rapeseed oil spray which is absolutely delicious.

Great day Ladyyoyo & great loss RiveterRosie ... YAY!

...But sorry for no loss fruitpastille... :(

Thank you for your kind words Startoftheyear2019 - I try to stay positive Smile and try to keep a happy narrative to help us all!

I am being v good and sticking to points but after the first two brilliant weeks have hit a plateau where the weight is just not moving. Must stick with it.

just marking my spot

VivaFrida · 08/05/2019 07:02

Hello fellow fat fighters! Good morning!

It's
Star DAY EIGHT Star

And I am writing one fingered on my phone the train because I have forgotten my laptop at home! D'oh! Confirmed Airheads 'r us! I was super rushing this morning because my (already tight) schedule has been disrupted by the cats brining a dead small rat and a dead mouse in the house so I wasn't quite myself!! DH and I cleared out the carnage 🤢 and I still managed to do 15 minutes on the bike and get ready but in the final rush the laptop was left at home. Oh well! It's not necessary but it makes my job a lot easier! ANYWAY. Get on with it Frida, you are a dumbass and you know it!

Weight loss, I am happy to report that a sneaky peek confirmed a very small loss and the number 59.8 was recorded! Moving at snail pace in the right direction.

Now, one of my targets was to be 59kg at a professional conference where I am presenting. It's on May 21. In about 2 weeks. I want my diet to be sustainable so I am not going to do anything drastic to get there but I may pledge to give up chocolate mini eggs until then!

Reading back now. Have a great day all!

Morning all! Well done to all the losers (who’d’ve thought that was a nice thing to say!) and a big virtual helping hand to those struggling a bit this week - you can do it!!
9st 2lb on my Wednesday weigh in this week down from 9st 4lb last week. My scales don’t do fractions of a lb and it wavered between 3 and 4 before settling at 4 last week so I’m probably on more like a 1 1/2lb loss this week but am saying it’s 2! It’s at this point that I need all the shouting at not to self-sabotage (I’m a shocker for relaxing too much once I have a loss and then putting it all back on again the following week!) but I’m desperate to be back under 9st again so need to keep going. Hope you all have good and healthy days today.

Lookingforpizza · 08/05/2019 07:42

Woo congrats @vivafrida Grin

I weight every day but will use every Wednesday as my official weekly recording, I’ve gone from 186.7 lbs to 184.3 lbs so a solid 2lb loss this week. Hopefully I can keep up the good work and see a similar loss next week.

Today’s food:
Breakfast: Alpen and yoghurt
Lunch: chicken salad
Dinner: leftover bolognese with a sweet potato
Snacks: banana before going to the gym, hot chocolate and a couple of small chocs.

Should bring me in at around 1400 calories today. Planning to do a walk at lunchtime and gym in the evening. Good luck today everyone!

cricketmum84 · 08/05/2019 08:33

2lbs back on again today. Not impressed!!!

RulesForResults · 08/05/2019 08:51

So today is my day one, I've started off by having a coffee and a small breakfast which is the first time in about 20 years I've eaten before 12!

Soup for lunch and I've not got round to dinner yet but I'm feeling positive!

DeadButDelicious · 08/05/2019 09:22

Morning all!

Calories came in at bob on 1,600 yesterday thanks to a very large potato. It was a very nice potato though. I had it wedged and baked with spray sunflower oil (Asda's own stuff not frylight it's actual sunflower oil in a spray bottle 2 cals a spray) and a little black pepper and garlic mayonnaise. Hit the carby spot so it did.

Today's plan is to just stay on track. I'm going to visit my mum this afternoon so I don't know what I'll be doing for dinner yet today.

Crazzzycat · 08/05/2019 09:23

80.7 on the scales this morning. That’s a loss of a whole kg this month. I’m a little bit shocked, as I don’t think I’ve been as good this week as I usually am. But I shan’t complain!

Congrats to everyone else who’s lost and for those who are stable/ gaining, hang on in there. I had about three weeks like that last month, so know how soul destroying that can be. But if you stick to whatever you did to lose weight before, it will start to come off again!

edwardson · 08/05/2019 11:18

9 st 6.4 today! That's 1.6lbs down in May and 2.4 from my next goal and I feel awesome. Delighted with that and think I'm looking pretty good :) thanks everyone and congrats on the losses and the milestones. Very inspiring reading!

ImpossibleNovelty · 08/05/2019 12:57

Gah, gained again! Really not sure how the scale is still going up Angry Not going to be knocked off course though. So:
B: nuts and babybel
L: mackerel salad
D: chicken and green veg
Snacks - 2 x ham slices and a square of dark chocolate.
Onwards and downwards! Great to see everyone else’s progress, very motivating.

Somuchroom · 08/05/2019 13:31

Brilliant updates you lot, congrats on losses. I cracked with the evening snacking last night and had half a bag of popcorn and an entire tub of olives. Oh and an extra slice of the Bakewell tart I baked. I was up really late and just got so hungry when I should have been asleep. Oh well. Today is a new day and I’m doing ok. If Monday rolls around and I’ve not lost anything, will have to go back to the dreaded calorie counting...

Keep up the good work everyone Smile
