16:8 - who's up for it?

kaytee87 · 25/04/2019 11:25

I had some success on the 16:8 diet before but my weight has crept up again (being investigated for under active thyroid).

Basically you fast for 16 hours of the day and only eat in 8 of them.

My chosen hours will likely be eating between 10am-6pm possibly 11am-7pm at the weekend.

I am also going to do a 20 minute exercise video in the morning 3-4 times a week and keep up doing my 10-15k steps per day.

I will make weigh in day Fridays. Will post my stats in the morning after I've weighed.

Does anyone want to join?

I had a couple of days off as we were away for the weekend.
I think today will be a struggle Sad

kaytee I’ve been surprised by how much of a challenge it’s been to get back on plan after only just going slightly off it. I hope you did ok yesterday

I find I can stick to it most days, but the weekends are proving a bit more of a challenge. So, I’m just taking it one day at a time and try to stick to the plan for as many days as I can, and bend the rules a little bit on the other days.

Yep - weekends are difficult. Had a very boozy weekend but back on track yesterday. I find I'm having frequent headaches though - not sure if it's connected.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 14/05/2019 19:55

Anyone else doing two meals a day and a emotional eater?

minmooch · 14/05/2019 22:50

@Feelingfortyisntfun me. I eat when I'm happy, sad, tired, hungry, hangry, full.

But I feel in control doing just two meals a day (weekdays completely, weekends it's a bit harder).

Feelingfortyisntfun · 15/05/2019 20:43

Minmooch that’s great! I can empathise. I’m trying to make exercise my drug of choice. How long have you been doing two meals a day?

I managed two today and have noticed I appear to be doing better with less appetite (which if you have read my posts previously you’ll be aware of - broken record alert) with skipping breakfast. Had the odd morning when I’ve eaten earlier for my evening meal and woken up starving though.

Will watch with interest , thank you for posting

Silly Q but do you need to eat healthily the hours you can eat or does it not matter as much?

Dontrainonmyparade · 15/05/2019 20:52

Hi, I have found you by accident after starting fasting officially today. I am combining with general slimming world principles when I eat and aiming for an eating window between 12-8 most days, though today I made it 1-9 as I didn’t get chance to eat lunch until after 1 anyway.

Can I join your thread?

DS1 has been ill, and very clingy, and I am knackered due to lack of sleep and generally eating crap. I can't move more than a couple of feet away from him before he starts wailing - actually cooking is out of the question! And I am fat, and tired, and desperately in need of some energy.....

He does now have antibiotics. Really hoping that that will sort him out and I can get back to my weight loss journey!

Feelingfortyisntfun · 17/05/2019 20:48

Ruby slippers sorry to hear your little one has been poorly. Tiredness is horrific. Hope you are all feeling better.

minmooch · 18/05/2019 11:35

@RubySlippers77 hope your little one is on the mend soon. It's hard to diet when your plain knackered! My eldest son was ill for two and a half years. When I lived in hospital with him I lived on a diet of chocolate and red wine that I got smuggled in by friends! I put on most of my weight in those years when he was poorly and afterwards. He died 5 years ago and really it's only now that I've been able to focus enough to do it for myself.

Another 1lb loss for me so that's 15lbs so far! So pleased with myself - although I've got the same again to lose but slowly slowly.

Going on holiday on Thursday and for the first time in years I feel good in all my clothes.

minmooch · 20/05/2019 08:20

Went to a Eurovision party on saturday night - much booze but little food. Danced until 4 am so would like to think I've danced off the calories of lots of Prosecco!

Back on it yesterday and still feeling committed. Usually I can do about 6 weeks of a diet but (as long as I can be a little less strict at the weekend) this 16:8 seems to be good, easy for me to do and seeing results!

I am kind of doing this approach naturally due to hunger levels...also read the book the 2 Meal day? (Max Lowery) has anyone else read this one?

I too am finding it harder at weekends, and was looking at his 80:20 idea (where you do it most of the time) and decided to eat breakfast at weekends if I want to - and if fits in with family...then see when hungry later.

So I guess doing a combination of this 16:8 and 3 Meal day approach, which seems to fit with me...his approach is more loose around the timings though but more about 2 meals a day...(unsurprisingly!) mine just tend to fall around 12-1pm and 6pm...usually for convenience lunch is soup / rye bread and salad if out...fruit /greek yoghurt / dark choc if want something sweet.

Also I do a class most mornings, yoga / swim or something. Have lost half a stone doing this the last month or so and hoping it is not just a 'diet' for me but I can keep going with this for the future.

Dontrainonmyparade · 23/05/2019 22:59

I’m a bit fed up this evening, not helped by period starting and coming down with the kids cold. My batteries died in my scales last week but I waited to replace them as I’m terrible for jumping on every morning. So weighed in this evening and I’ve gained 2lb.

One thing I was wondering about is how fasting works versus the ‘if you don’t eat your body holds on to the fat’ thing?

Anyway, I’m just fed up and feel fat and blobby.

Hang in there Don'train, I also have my period and it is making me crave chocolate!I'm still having a bit, just in my meal times (or after)...I'm thinking about half term which starts here this weekend. I usually go to a class like zumba or yoga in the mornings, which helps with routine for me, but will be missing this next week. It will be more tricky as well with the children's food around etc. I guess will just see how it goes and drink some water instead in the mornings, and maybe pack a healthy-ish lunch to take out on trips with us. I have found this really filling bread which is no flour, it's called Grain bread...might have some with soup as well.
