16:8 - who's up for it?

kaytee87 · 25/04/2019 11:25

I had some success on the 16:8 diet before but my weight has crept up again (being investigated for under active thyroid).

Basically you fast for 16 hours of the day and only eat in 8 of them.

My chosen hours will likely be eating between 10am-6pm possibly 11am-7pm at the weekend.

I am also going to do a 20 minute exercise video in the morning 3-4 times a week and keep up doing my 10-15k steps per day.

I will make weigh in day Fridays. Will post my stats in the morning after I've weighed.

Does anyone want to join?

Ate between 11am&6pm yesterday, wont eat til almost 12 today, so 18 hour fast, as we're at a christening this morning.
We were out all day yesterday and I refused all offers of crisps, chocolate, donuts etc. I did have a dessert after my dinner but I was planning to as we were out.

@jimmychoux did you find new sandals?

OP posts:
jimmychoux · 06/05/2019 08:43

@kaytee87 I didn't go sandal shopping in the end, I decided to cut the grass and one thing led to another and I ended up spending the whole day sorting the garden. I didn't eat all day and before I knew it it was 7pm.

I made good food choices but overate!

How is everyone getting on?

kaytee87 · 06/05/2019 08:55

@jimmychoux lots of exercise doing the garden though!

I had 3 fairy cakes yesterday as my mum sent me home with a box of them after the christening Blush I've managed to resist getting a takeaway all weekend though.

I was struggling a bit around 7.30 this morning watching ds have his pancakes and banana.

Going to head out to the park in an hour so won't eat until 11.30/12.00. I might put a baking potato in the oven before I go out.

I didn’t do so well sticking to my 8 hour eating window over the bank holiday weekend. The evenings turned out to be a little bit too much of a challenge 😬

But I stuck to calories, apart from Saturday night when some (possibly lots 🙈) of crisps and chocolate may have been consumed...

The scales are still going down though, so I won’t be beating myself up over that! I’m planning to be completely back on plan tomorrow

Shutityoutart · 06/05/2019 21:40

So I’ve lost 3.5 lbs this week and my husband lost 5! Not been very good at the weekend though. I’m trying to have my eating period 12-8 or I find I have a snack at 11, and the lunch at 12.30 which is a lot!

RubySlippers77 · 06/05/2019 23:39

kaytee my DS1 loooooves fairy cakes - always picks up a pack when we're in the supermarket - and they are so easy to snack on Blush

Just checking in as I am still a complete zombie, DS1 up every couple of hoursin the night and chronically tired during the day but will NOT nap. I don't think he even feels that ill any more, but he just can't/ won't get a good night's sleep without shouting "MUMMEEEEEE!" quite a lot Sad

Weigh in day for me is Wednesday, fingers crossed I'll have lost a little bit, it's been tough waiting till 10/ 11am to eat when I'm up at 6am and several times in the night - but it actually has helped me to stop eating mindlessly in the evening and think more about whether I really want that snack or whatever during the day.

Has everyone else here told their DP that they are trying to lose weight? Mine regularly goes into rants about wanting to lose quite a bit (he's 22 stone) but then he will eat (and drink) a lot more than he needs to..... I haven't told him what I'm doing as I can't be bothered with his bitchy comments/ telling me I'm not getting any thinner/ telling me I should support him more etc. Even when I lost two stone he didn't say well done, so I don't see the point!!

kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 07:07

@RubySlippers77 I know what you mean, DS is usually up around 6.30. I find once I'm passed the hunger at around 8.30 I can manage though.
DH knows I'm doing 16:8, hasn't commented much other than well done on the 3lb loss. I've told him not to buy cakes for the house.
If it's easier for you to keep it to yourself then just do that, no need for added pressure Thanks

@Shutityoutart well done on the 3.5lb loss.

@Shutityoutart well done on your weight loss. That is excellent.

I was shocking yesterday, really shocking. Enough said.

Today's a new day.

minmooch · 07/05/2019 07:14

I'm in.

I did three days last week. Weekend virtually impossible to follow due to social commitments so just followed the two meal a day bit.

Have been on a diet for a month and lost a stone. No alcohol, low carbs. Feel so much better for it.

Want to be a little less restrictive and feel this could be the way, during the week anyway.

I find if I can get past 9 then I can last until 12.

Problem time is just as I get in from work. Go straight to the fridge and see what I can eat. Always got healthy snacks but that's my tricky time.

Made a paleo lemon tart. Cut into small pieces it gives me that sweet taste that I crave. Being paleo it has no refined sugar. Not quite the same as a Waitrose Tarte aux citron but I'm trying to readjust my taste buds!! 😀

kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 08:24

A stone in a month is amazing @minmooch. Have you been exercising too?

OP posts:
Crazzzycat · 07/05/2019 09:34

Rubyslippers I’m doing this diet with my DH. Even so, positive comments are few and far between, but on a more positive note he’s really not one for snide remarks either. In your case, I think I’d just keep the fact that I’m on a diet to myself. It doesn’t sound like there’s much to be gained from sharing that information.

kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 12:10

Just had a wrap for lunch. I really fancy a cup of tea and a cake. Will hold off and have an apple in an hour instead then dinner at 5.15.
I really am desperate to lose this weight so need to resign myself to the fact that in order to do so I can't just have cake whenever I like and that I will sometimes be hungry.

OP posts:
minmooch · 07/05/2019 12:14

@kaytee87 - not mad exercising as I have dodgy knees but I have dogs so I'm out with them for a walk every day. I do Pilates once a week.

Last month I cut out alcohol and most carbs. I was desperate to see some weight shift and a stone has come off. My lifestyle means that's not sustainable for too long so now I'm trying g to find a balance whereby I'm strict during week days, can be a little less relaxed at the weekend and still lose weight? Still have 1 1/2 to 2 stone to lose ideally.

Am Loki g this 16/8. Somehow I feeel a bit more in control of my eating.

minmooch · 07/05/2019 12:16

Oh and I am still counting calories. Goal is under 1200 a day. It's the only way I can do it.

kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 12:22

@minmooch I feel you, I have a dodgy ankle so struggle with lots of exercises. Actually I piled a stone on after my second operation on it last August. Will be going for a third op on it this summer/autumn Sad
I don't drink much (last drink 26th April), we're away this weekend but I'm going to try my hardest to stick to 16:8 but might be tough if everyone else is enjoying a beer & nuts in the evening.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 12:24

Yes, I find intermittent fasting is much easier than trying to make 1200 last all day. 1200 calories in 8 hours is fine, 1200 calories in 14 hours = hungry.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 20:38

Tomorrow's food will be;

Wrap & low calorie chocolate mousse about 11am

2 sausages, mashed potato, sweetcorn & carrots about 5pm

Snacks; apple & strawberries

I'm still trying to catch up... Well done to everyone on the weight losses 👏

RubySlippers77 · 07/05/2019 21:12

I ate around 6.15pm this evening, was hoping for a snack too (been active with the DC all day and ate late as I took the dog for a walk) but DP was being incredibly unhelpful at getting the DC up to bed, which meant I didn't have time! Now am really quite peckish but trying to stick it out before weigh in day tomorrow!!

Comments from DP tonight include:

"We should send the DC to a school a bit further away, you could do with the exercise taking them there"
"I'm getting better at the gym. I'm getting better, you're just getting bigger"

He still weighs 22 stone and had to rest - literally go to bed and sleep - after we walked 7.5K on Saturday!! I did 15K that day in total!

@kaytee87 can you still swim maybe? Or static cycle? I really want to get back into running but do remember it being very hard on the joints Sad

kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 21:20

@RubySlippers77 I'm sorry your partner is so unsupportive, that can't be easy.

I can cycle and swim...getting time to do so is another matter. If I'm not at work, I'm with Ds and I just don't have the energy to go to the gym in the evening after ds goes to bed. I've been sporadically doing a YouTube exercise video some mornings but ds thinks it's a game and jumps all over me Grin

Hopefully as the weather gets better we'll all get out on our bikes together, ds has a seat on the back of DH bike.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 07/05/2019 21:21

Oh if you want to snack, drink a glass of water then brush your teeth.

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 07/05/2019 22:51

I tried a HIIT workout in the mornings too kaytee but the DC just squabbled like little fiends and wouldn't leave me alone..... shame as I quite enjoyed it!!

Drunk plenty of water this evening and brushed my teeth already - quite hungry now as I've done 2K steps since the DC went to bed - but determined not to give in before weigh in tomorrow! Maybe DP being an arse will work in my favour that way?!

Oh and he came back from work this afternoon and ate half a pizza (I'd cooked it for me and the DC for lunch but we'd only had half) - literally half a pizza just as a snack - then wonders why he's not losing weight Hmm

BlindTipsy · 08/05/2019 06:40

@RubySlippers77 Your DP sounds like a bit of an arse tbh! What horrible things to say to you. Sounds like you are taking a much better approach to the whole thing than he is.

@minmooch Really interesting to read what a big effect cutting out alcohol and carbs had over just one month. Wine is my big downfall (well one of them!) and I think I subconsciously find it hard to believe it makes me put on weight (in a 'it's liquid and and it's see through' mentality Grin). That's my next challenge to myself - cutting back drastically on wine.

I lost it at the weekend as had nights out and a food festival so have put a couple of lb back on but god it was worth it! Back on the wagon from yesterday though and had a good day and a nice early night so feel like I have taken back control.
