16:8 - who's up for it?

kaytee87 · 25/04/2019 11:25

I had some success on the 16:8 diet before but my weight has crept up again (being investigated for under active thyroid).

Basically you fast for 16 hours of the day and only eat in 8 of them.

My chosen hours will likely be eating between 10am-6pm possibly 11am-7pm at the weekend.

I am also going to do a 20 minute exercise video in the morning 3-4 times a week and keep up doing my 10-15k steps per day.

I will make weigh in day Fridays. Will post my stats in the morning after I've weighed.

Does anyone want to join?

My weigh in day is Friday but I'm due my period this weekend so don't know how accurate it will be.

I've really lost the food plot for the last two days.

Feeling really down about it.

kaytee87 · 08/05/2019 07:40

@jimmychoux today is another day. Tell us what you're planning to eat and what times, then stick to it. You can do it, think about seeing more weight loss and how good it will feel.

Hi everyone, can I join? I’ve been doing this for theee weeks now alongside strict paleo - I’ve lost so much weight already!! I find the morning fast ok (babies keep me busy) but the evening is a lot harder so I’ve changed my hours to 1pm-9pm and sometimes 1.30-9.30pm and that works lots better for me!

kaytee87 · 08/05/2019 08:12

@Cloudyyy hi 👋 how much have you lost in 3 weeks?

I had a sneaky half week weigh earlier and I've lost another pound so that's 4 since starting 10 days ago Smile

Cloudyyy · 08/05/2019 08:19

I’ll be honest and say I don’t know he figure because I don’t actually weigh myself, but I clearly look very different to three week ago. I’ve just had my second baby and was feeling tight and uncomfortable in a size 10 trouser... yesterday I wore my pre-baby size 8 jeans and they were comfy!! Smile More than that, drinking all this water and cutting the sugar has made my skin and hair feel lovely!! Highly recommend paleo!

RubySlippers77 · 08/05/2019 08:36

Well done Cloudyy 👏

I've only lost 0.5lb but on the bright side I've lost some body fat and my clothes fit a bit better. I think two things would help my weight loss... fitting in a bit of cardio somewhere and getting more sleep/ not being so flipping exhausted, very hard with DS1 still being poorly!

Crazzzycat · 08/05/2019 13:43

jimmychoux it sucks when that happens, but a diet hasn’t failed if we fall off the wagon for a day, or even a week. All that matters is what you do after that happens.

I’ve been finding the start of the week a little bit challenging too. I don’t think bank holidays are actually that helpful for dieters, as they just leave you feeling like you deserve a treat...and then a few more. But normality has now returned, so I’m motivated to crack on with it!

minmooch · 08/05/2019 18:27

@BlindTipsy yes no alcohol for 33 days I'm sure helped a big heap. Normally drink quite a lot. It got easier after 29 days 😂😂. And very low carbs - missed my bread but still keeping up the low carbs. I was religious though, no cheating but really wanted a big loss to give me the motivation to keep going.

I try not to weigh every day as I know my weight can fluctuate. Just try to weigh myself once a week (unless I've had a spectacular days with 4 pops then Juno on the scales to see if there's a difference 🤪).

I'm 52 and the days are long gone when I could diet for a couple of weeks and lose what I need. It's a good three months ahead of me before I get to some sort of good weight. Hey ho.

kaytee87 · 08/05/2019 21:31

I've only had about 1000 calories today and walked 15k steps. I really want a bit of toast and chocolate spread. Someone talk me out of it!
I've brushed my teeth and I'm sipping a glass of water.
It's DH birthday tomorrow and I've told myself I can have a big bit of chocolate cake but I need to wait until tomorrow for it.

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 08/05/2019 23:52

Kaytee I don't even keep chocolate spread in the house, just in case I'm tempted!!

Another day with DS1 being poorly and clingy. Aaarrrggghhh. And I am just exhausted - having to entertain two toddlers and a dog in the pouring rain today was no fun. Hoping to get him a GP appointment tomorrow to check him again as a week after the last one he's no better.

Had dinner as planned but then succumbed to the lure of toast and marmalade later on Sad only one slice though whereas before it would have been at least two... that's progress, right?!

BlindTipsy · 09/05/2019 07:46

@RubySlippers77 I always think that when I have a 'blip' - it's never anywhere near as bad as even my average day when I was at my worst. Helps me to see I haven't blown things. Although your post did make me want toast! (Not marmalade though - yuk!)

kaytee87 · 09/05/2019 07:48

@RubySlippers77 my husband bought it Sad there's also icecream in the freezer. I'm amazed I'm managing to stick to this diet with the temptation! DH doesn't have to diet, he's not buying treats for me anymore but I can't ask him not to buy things for himself.

I hope ds1 is feeling better soon. My wee one had a nightmare and started crying hysterically just as I was drifting off, took me ages to settle him. Feel a bit crap today, got a sore throat and tired.

One is definitely better than two so well done.

OP posts:
jimmychoux · 09/05/2019 08:49

@kaytee87 you are doing really well. Keep it up.

I managed to get back on track yesterday after a disastrous week.

It's my weigh day tomorrow. There is no way I have lost anything so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I haven't gained.

kaytee87 · 09/05/2019 09:03

@jimmychoux thanks, I've kept to all my fasting times so far but have had some (planned) treats. I'm finding planning myself a treat every other day stops me from mindlessly eating crap. Well done for getting back on track.
My weigh in tomorrow too but as I said up thread I'm due my period which will probably affect it.
One of my husbands friends lost 3stone by fasting 20 hours a day!

OP posts:
minmooch · 09/05/2019 16:53

FSting for 20 hours a day??? I think I'd pass out if I could only limit myself to 4 hours. That is not sustainable for any length of time surely.

My partners birthday tomorrow - dinner out tomorrow will be boozy and foodie so haven't got a hope in hell of being good.

Going on holiday on 23rd May and trying to lose half a stone by then. Another holiday mid October which is my main goal for the other stone and a half.

kaytee87 · 09/05/2019 16:58

@minmooch he did it for quite a while. A lot the time I'm actually fasting for 18 so I reckon it would be doable but very restrictive in terms of social life.
I met a man today who's been on a water fast for 2 weeks.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 10/05/2019 06:45

Just the 1lb off this week so 12st1lb, I'd have liked to have lost another 2 or 3 but at least it's going down.
Fingers crossed for everyone who's weighing today

OP posts:
jimmychoux · 10/05/2019 09:03

@kaytee87 well done on your weight loss. Anything is better than nothing, it's going in the right direction.

I lost 1.5lbs this week.

JurassicGirl · 10/05/2019 10:35

Sorry I haven't been back!

My dh, dd & both ds's came down with a stomach bug & I've still got dd & youngest ds home & it's just been impossible to stick to the diet!

Feeling pretty rough myself but I think it's due to very little sleep. There's been a lot of vomitting happening during the night!

Hopefully everyone will be better by next week & I can get back on track.

Crazzzycat · 10/05/2019 10:42

I’m excited to report a loss of 0.8 kg or just under 2 lbs this week. I’m getting very close to being a healthy weight after more than 4 months of dieting, so very happy to see some bigger losses this month Smile

The only challenge I’ve found with this diet so far is what to do with my morning cup of tea!

I always drink it black, but find that on an empty stomach that doesn’t work so well. I tried herbal tea, but just end up with a headache that seems to last all day.

So now I’m back to drinking black tea. Mild stomach upset for a few hours seems better than an all day headache 🤔 Anyone else have similar problems with their morning cup of tea/ coffee?

kaytee87 · 10/05/2019 10:52

@Crazzzycat well done! I just add a bit of milk into my tea, I can't do without it.

@JurassicGirl I hope they're all better soon, horrible getting no sleep.

@jimmychoux that's amazing, especially as you thought you'd had a bad week.

OP posts:
jimmychoux · 10/05/2019 14:37

@Crazzzycat I also put milk in tea and coffee. I have already given up enough and I wouldn't be able to do this if I had to drink black tea/coffee. I've given up two teaspoons of sugar in each though.

RubySlippers77 · 11/05/2019 09:38

JurassicGirl I'm with you in the lack of sleep club! DS1 is still waking up several times in the night with his ear infection. He's currently curled up on the sofa telling me that his ear hurts Sad

I'm really not doing well at the moment as I'm just so flipping exhausted - feel like I've been beaten up, I'm so achey - and the fasting is too tough when I'm up half the night as well as on the go all day (I did 18K steps yesterday). Going to take DS1 back to the doctor on Monday though if he's still poorly and hopefully we can get this sorted.....

fruitpastille · 12/05/2019 20:23

Hi everyone, came across this thread today as just started 16:8 this weekend along with dh. Really want to shift 10 pounds and have been trying all year without success! 2 off/2 on eternally! Maybe this different approach will help? I'm eating 12.30-8.30 so have just had a cuppa and square of chocolate. Just peppermint tea before bed for me :-)
