16:8 - who's up for it?

kaytee87 · 25/04/2019 11:25

I had some success on the 16:8 diet before but my weight has crept up again (being investigated for under active thyroid).

Basically you fast for 16 hours of the day and only eat in 8 of them.

My chosen hours will likely be eating between 10am-6pm possibly 11am-7pm at the weekend.

I am also going to do a 20 minute exercise video in the morning 3-4 times a week and keep up doing my 10-15k steps per day.

I will make weigh in day Fridays. Will post my stats in the morning after I've weighed.

Does anyone want to join?

Me too please - desperate to lose some weight before next year - have weddings to attend in May and July. It's a long way off but I have about 3 stone to lose Sad

Does anyone have ideas for snacks whilst out and about? I have two small impatient DC which make mealtimes tricky, sometimes have to rely on snacks (for me not them!) - clearly having cake for energy is not good for my weight loss attempts!

NicoAndTheNiners · 28/04/2019 09:59

Kind of managed the 16:8 aspect yesterday. Didn't eat until 10am and had my evening meal just before 6pm. Didn't eat great in my 8 hour window though! Grin. There may have been cake.

Just about to have a couple of rice cakes for breakfast.

Over the next few days I'd like to push my breakfast back to at least 11am which is what I did last time.

Diemme · 28/04/2019 10:58

Well day 1 went well. I ate what I fancied which turned out to be 1 crap meal and 1 healthy one. Lunch at 12 was a peanut butter sandwich, crisps and a mini roll! But I made up for it at dinner with tofu stir fry with mushrooms peppers and spinach. Just one cappuccino out at around 3pm. I was hungry but felt fine.

troppibambini · 28/04/2019 19:56

Can I join you? I found that 16:8 really worked for me last time I did it.
I'm aiming to eat between 12 and 8 first day today and has gone wellSmile

jimmychoux · 28/04/2019 20:06

Hi Troppibambini

Day three for me and it's gone well. I've been spring cleaning and sorting the garden, haven't stopped all day.

How's everyone doing today?

BlindTipsy · 28/04/2019 20:20

Weekdays last week went well and was seeing a bit of movement on the scales but the weekend - arrgh! Have managed to stick to 16:8 but the 8 has been a bit out of control!

I did manage to get myself off the sofa and out for a run today at least.

Tomorrow is another day...

lahdeedah2019 · 28/04/2019 20:26

Il join OP . What type of "diet" are you following during the 16:8 fast ? What I mean is are you calorie counting ? Cutting back on anything ? Limiting to a certain amount of calories ?

Or literally just eating what you want and fasting xx

troppibambini · 28/04/2019 20:30

I'm doing slimming world but a clean version of it so not loads of muller lights and processed stuff.
It also allows for a bit of a treat if I need it which I willGrin
So basically home cooked low fat food.

lahdeedah2019 · 28/04/2019 20:32

I need to fall in love with veg and fruit again . I have to force myself to make it now never mind eat it

RubySlippers77 · 28/04/2019 21:58

Perhaps with summer (hopefully!) on the way you'll find it easier to enjoy fruit & veg again lahdee? It does tend to be easier to enjoy a salad when the weather is warm and the veg is tasty and in season!

I hated all the processed stuff they recommend on SW troppi. And lots of WW recipes recommend sweeteners too. I just need to lose my taste for sugar rather than eating loads of it in other forms.

It's my birthday on Tuesday so the diet is currently on hold. Wednesday will be weigh in day Grin (or probably Sad)

Crazzzycat · 29/04/2019 00:22

Just finished day 2. I can’t say it was any easier than the first one, but I stuck to the plan, which is the main thing Smile

How’s everyone else doing?

kaytee87 · 29/04/2019 07:45

Ok day 1 of 16:8. I have a doctors appointment at 10am so it's a bit awkward today. I'll bring an apple in my bag then maybe have some boiled eggs when I get home.

@lahdeedah2019 last time I did it, I didn't particularly calorie count. I did eat more healthily and found by limiting the eating time to 8 hours, I didn't snack and automatically ate less calories.

I’ve been doing this for 2 weeks now. I use the zero app to track my fasts.

I’m eating between 12-8. First few days I was hungry in the morning but I seem to have adjusted now.

I’m drinking plenty of water and fruit tea during my fast.

I’ve lost about 4lb so far and I only needed to lose about 8 so I’m happy 🙂

lahdeedah2019 · 29/04/2019 09:18

Going to give it a go and see how I get on ! Good luck everyone xx

kaytee87 · 29/04/2019 09:37

Hungry Sad I know it will pass though so persevering.
I did my exercise video this morning and my toddler thought it was a great idea to jump all over me. He was lying on my back while I was doing push ups so I suppose he's just trying to help Grin

Iv'e been doing this for about 6 weeks. Lost half a stone in a month, so I celebrated for a coulee of weeks...Been really focused on it for a week and think I've dropped what I put on.

I think it suits me, I really don't mind feeling a bit hungry now - I've got used to it. This is novel, I have never felt hungry before. It's weird how it passes. I am having milk in my tea, so I'm not clean fasting, but, I've got 6 stones to lose and this has to be a long term lifestyle.

I've been following an obesity conference for medics on twitter. It's academic, but, interesting. twitter.com/hashtag/ECO2019?src=hash

kaytee87 · 29/04/2019 11:15

Just broken my fast with a ham wrap and low calorie chocolate mousse. Will share a bowl of strawberries with ds in a couple of hours then that's it til dinner.
@vivariumvivariumsvivaria well done. 7lbs in a month would really cheer me up. I'm having milk in my morning tea as well, I wouldn't cope without it.

OP posts:
jimmychoux · 29/04/2019 11:35

I'm having milk in my coffee too, couldn't cope without it. No sugar though.

NicoAndTheNiners · 29/04/2019 11:52

Broke my fast at 10.30am with a banana. Shortly going to have quinoa chicken salad.

Worlds0kayestmum · 29/04/2019 12:21

Just about to break my fast with Poached eggs on toast and then dinner tonight is bolognese with courgetti

Crazzzycat · 29/04/2019 12:45

Day 3 and this morning felt a lot easier than the previous two 😅 Keeping my fingers crossed that this is how things will continue.

I’m also happy to report that I’ve lost a pound/ half a kilo since Friday. I stuck to a fairly rigorous (but not 16:8) diet all of April, but was stuck on the same weight throughout. To finally see a loss again is pretty motivating Smile

WeakAsIAm · 29/04/2019 15:25

Can I join?

First day today weighed myself at 77.1kg just short of my highest (non pregnant) weight Sad.

Broke fast at 2pm with a ham wrap and fruit, drank loads of water too. Couldn't face the tea without milk so went without at breakfast.

Got a massive headache despite loads of water, is this normal?

Think I may have my first brew of the day and then plan evening meal.

Good luck everyone Grin

kaytee87 · 29/04/2019 15:47

@WeakAsIAm the lack of caffeine has probably given you a headache if you're used to tea in the morning.

IndieWally · 29/04/2019 18:21

Hmm my 8hr window turned into 9 as I was stuck in work longer than expected...only cooking dinner now. Guess I’ll have to start eating at 11am tomorrow instead of 10. Get hungry at 9.30 tho...

Been pretty good all day, only had oat porridge (breakfast) and oats with yoghurt (lunch) so far, now a pork chop and salad for dinner!
