Sugar and alcohol detox from tomorrow...who's with me?

I'm a sugar addict. It's gotten so bad. Today I've eaten an Easter egg, three slices of cake, a meringue and I've drank some prosecco....ok it is Easter BUT since my baby was born 6 months ago I've massively gone off the rails. Probably the sugar is helping me cope with the sleep deprivation! Anyway I've decided, I'm quitting added sugar and alcohol tomorrow! I will still be eating fruit, pasta, rice and potatoes, just not sugar in coffee, biscuits, sweets, cakes etc.( Disclaimer...I have two weddings in the next month so may have a class of bubbles on those two occasions!). Anyway I could do with some accountability buddies so does anyone want to join me?

It's very easily done at Easter with all the temptation around - good luck!

Mrscog · 22/04/2019 06:45

Me! I’m starting with a 24 hour fast - only water for me until teatime tonight!

NewMum19344567 · 22/04/2019 06:56

Yesterday I did 600 calories as I think I need a bit of a food reset! Worked out am on about 3500 calories a day to deal with sleep deprivation and pain! Today have a BBQ but thought if I buy salad and don't have buns can stick to a low calorie day! Have promised I won't eat any of our chocolate cupboard even though we have so many yummy Easter eggs and not having alcohol as is so blooming high calorie too!

Thanks guys! Good to have you on board mrscog and Newmum. What's your plan for breakfast? I might do a smoothie with avocado, spinach, almond milk and a banana! Start as I mean to go on! Last time I did a cleanse it gave me a terrible headache for nearly a week!

I'm back on low carb tomorrow so definitely in. Been on holiday for 2 weeks and my diet has been rubbish.

TurnOffTheTv · 22/04/2019 08:08

Me! I’m in, just did my meal plan for this coming week so I’m all sorted. Horrific hangover yesterday so felt shit all day. Just getting up to weigh myself.

winterisstillcoming · 22/04/2019 08:10

I'm in... yesterday I ate a whole Easter egg, a cheese Easter egg, crisps galore, rich fish pie and a portion of banoffee pudding. I'm bloated and queasy and fat. I have my food order coming later with loads of veg and fruit, plan to do a juice and smoothie detox for a few days. I have to cut out bread!!!

TurnOffTheTv · 22/04/2019 08:27

Bollocks. 10st 4, was 9st 7 before Christmas. My willpower is shit

Mrscog · 22/04/2019 08:31

@Iwillwearthegreenwillow

I would say definitely coffee with friends decide you’re not having anything other than a coffee. Do you have somewhere to go like pret where you could easily choose a delicious fruit option instead? I think the birthdays I might just have a small piece of cake anyway to save on all the comments/persuasion! But plan a light rest of the day around it.

chewbacca83 · 22/04/2019 09:07

@IWillWearTheGreenWillow I have the same problem with weddings! Well I've just had a smoothie, feeling very virtuous! I'm moving house in 2 months to a new city, fresh start and all that. I really want to get my pre baby self back!!

I’m in but I’ll start tomorrow because I have some wine I want to finish Grin how long for?

Longest I did it was for 12 weeks in 2016 and went from a size 16 to a size 10. It was a hard slog though!

TurnOffTheTv · 22/04/2019 10:31

Breakfast done! I’m low carbing as well

chewbacca83 · 22/04/2019 10:52

Villanellesproudmum I'm aiming to the end of June which is when I move. I hope that it will reset my taste buds a bit because I am constantly craving sugary sweet stuff all the time! Hopefully by the end of June I will not need it as much!

Mrscog · 22/04/2019 11:21

ARGH I've fallen off the wagon already!!! Although not catastrophically. Help me get back on fellow detoxers! I am going to carry on with my 'fast' until 7pm as planned.

LikeSilentRaindrops · 22/04/2019 11:26

I have literally just pressed checkout on the healthiest low carb shopping order I’ve done in a looong time, so me please!

We’re travelling home tomorrow, so likely not to be the healthiest day (Maccy D’s, anyone?) but will be on the wagon with my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon from Wednesday...

stopitandtidyupp · 22/04/2019 11:42

I am in!

After watching Michael Mosley at the theatre. I am going to try the fast 800 Mediterranean style diet.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/04/2019 12:04

Me too!
I lost 3 stone last year doing Michael Moseley's Blood sugar diet and was absolutely sugar free from New Year's Day to Easter Sunday 2018. 2019 I'm just a sugar junkie. Realistically I eat much less of it than I used to, but I still eat a small morsel every day and as a result I want it all and every day is a battle of wanting it and saying no.

So yes, from today- low carb and sugar free. I'm hoping to do 4 and a bit weeks to get back down to my lowest weight and ready for our Whitsun holiday away.

(I am running a half marathon on Sunday so it would be very easy to eat rubbish all week! But I know I will feel every single piece of junk food and every glass of wine!)

DrBuckles · 22/04/2019 12:07

Am starting tomorrow, it’s still the holidays today. Low carbing and at least 30 days off alcohol. My wine intake has been ridiculous recently.

littlecabbage · 22/04/2019 13:20

I'm joining you today! No time to write more at the moment but will read and update properly later.

Villanellesproudmum · 22/04/2019 13:23

When I did mine last time I also adheredto the 8/16 and calorie counted. End of June sounds good.

littlecabbage · 22/04/2019 15:32

I think I'm going to just put it out there and say till end of summer! So till start of September. I'm nearly 10 months post partum, probably a stone overweight, knackered, with dull skin and am completely untoned.

Having to put on vaguely summery clothes yesterday brought it home to me how unhappy with my figure I am currently. Am 5'3 with wide hips at best of times so will never be the tall slender person I would like to be, but there we go! We must make the best of what we have!

So today I've had porridge with semi-skimmed milk and a few strawberries. Am not cutting out bread, pasta etc but will reduce portions and increase vegetables. No sugar except in fruit. Had two satsumas mid-morning. Small portion of very calorific quiche that was left over in fridge (not sugary but made with cream and shortcrust pastry!) with lots of rocket, tomatoes and cucumber for lunch.

Won't generally have high fat foods, nothing like that quiche left in fridge now! Must give last bit of ice-cream to kids so that isn't in freezer to tempt me. Have had 2 babybels this afternoon. It will be sausage pasta for dinner - small portion for me with lots of salad.

Am also aiming to go swimming two evenings a week to tone up and improve mental health. Did 22 lengths last night. Aiming to go again on Wednesday.

It's good to have some no-sugar buddies and an accountability thread. My main problem like several of you is very disturbed sleep but I can't change that.

Another thing I'm doing is not eating outside 8am and 8pm. May reduce this window if it's going well. And drink more water/fruit tea.
