Sugar and alcohol detox from tomorrow...who's with me?

chewbacca83 · 21/04/2019 21:00

I'm a sugar addict. It's gotten so bad. Today I've eaten an Easter egg, three slices of cake, a meringue and I've drank some prosecco....ok it is Easter BUT since my baby was born 6 months ago I've massively gone off the rails. Probably the sugar is helping me cope with the sleep deprivation! Anyway I've decided, I'm quitting added sugar and alcohol tomorrow! I will still be eating fruit, pasta, rice and potatoes, just not sugar in coffee, biscuits, sweets, cakes etc.( Disclaimer...I have two weddings in the next month so may have a class of bubbles on those two occasions!). Anyway I could do with some accountability buddies so does anyone want to join me?

Starting tomorrow with a VLCD. Think I probably weigh 100kg. 8 weeks before DHs 50th. I'd like to be down 15kg by then. Ambitious, but duck it.

MamaNewtNewt · 22/04/2019 16:17

I'm in. I don't really drink but I eat a LOT of sugar. I managed to give up in the new year and was doing great after the first two days of withdrawal symptoms but started again when I got a cold and 'needed' some chocolate. Maybe I can make it stick this time if I do it with others for support.

chewbacca83 · 22/04/2019 17:12

Well today is hard! I'm really finding it harder than I thought. I've had a snack of carrot sticks and houmous and a small piece of cheese but it hasn't hit the spot!!! Veggie shepherds pie for tea. What's everyone else having?

I'm having a minted lamb steak with a huge salad, with either feta or halloumi. The first few days sugar detox are the worst, but eating fat and a bit of extra salt can help if you get headaches. And lots of water! (You need water to complete the biochemical processes involved in actually burning fat for energy, so drink plenty)

I've done ok today, I haven't calorie counted but my aim was just to low carb and no sugar without cheating so I've been successful on that front.

stopitandtidyupp · 22/04/2019 17:21

I am having a mushroom omelette with side salad.

I really want Easter eggs.

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2019 17:22

I'd like to join if you'll have me. I'm going reduce my sugar & carbs, which means cutting out my main vices, which are wine & Haribo Blush

Got up late today & had a brunch of a homemade beefburger, fried egg on top & avocado on the side. No bun. It was nice & I'm still not hungry. Must remember to drink lots of water.

Villanellesproudmum · 22/04/2019 17:22

Urgh forgot about the water, better dig out my water bottle, good shout.

Villanellesproudmum · 22/04/2019 17:23

Just ordered lots of mushrooms, eggs and tomatoes as they were my go to breakfast last time.

chewbacca83 · 22/04/2019 17:38

I'm in from tomorrow! Need a huge kick up the butt as I've let things slide these holidays 😖

littlecabbage · 22/04/2019 18:41

How much water do you aim to drink throughout the day? And is fruit tea acceptable?

Littlepond · 22/04/2019 18:44

Me! I’ve been awful this Easter hols. I’m definitely going tee total for a bit and getting back on MFP.
Breakfast will be a smoothie and I’ve just made a chicken pasta dish which I can take to work for lunch tomorrow and Wednesday. Need to drink lots of water and try to cut down on (non fruit) sugar...

TheWayOfTheWorld · 22/04/2019 18:53

I'm starting tomorrow, having one last hurrah today...

Will be going back to low carb and combining with the 5:2 I think. Plus I need to get back into the habit of exercising. Going to try and do 20-25 mins HIIT 2-3x per week in addition to the walking and Pilates that I currently do.

Fed up of being in the same old cycle - lose weight, feel great, tell myself I am never going to go off the rails again only for something to trigger it and I lose all self control. Sigh.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/04/2019 19:40

Little I drink several pints of water (I'm at home all day so I have a pint glass on the go all the time), maybe 6pts a day? I do exercise a lot though. I drink coffee too, maybe 4 cups. Herbal tea or similar is ok, but I don't think it counts if they are diuretic?

littlecabbage · 22/04/2019 19:44

Thanks averagebear. I probably need to drink loads as still breastfeeding. I'm sure I don't drink enough during the day - I just forget. Why don't I "forget" to snack?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/04/2019 19:49

Little hah, I know. I don't think I've ever forgotten a meal... I set an alarm on my Fitbit when I first got it to remind me to drink, and that was helpful. So every 2 hours it goes off (still does actually because I've never unset it!) and reminds me To stop whatever I'm doing and drink. Honestly, it very quickly becomes a habit. I get very thirsty now if I'm out all day without my water supply!

littlecabbage · 22/04/2019 19:59

That's encouraging. I'll ry to make it a habit too.

RuggyPeg · 23/04/2019 07:13

I'm going to give it a shot, starting today. I don't really drink, so that's easy for me but 80% of my food intake is sugar & chocolate. I'm off the rails in a big way. I could do with losing 10lbs or so aswell. Its been years since I gave up sugar, so I'm fully expecting a full cold turkey experience but let's see! I NEED to get this under control and eat some actual vegetables!!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 23/04/2019 07:26

Just weighed myself - was 160lb in September and got down to 146lb in Jan. 157lb today AngryAngryAngry FFS!

Food today will be:

  • 2 low carb sausages and a creamy coffee
  • tuna with mayo, cucumber, spinach and tomato
  • panfried chicken breast with veg (mushrooms, spinach, asparagus)

And lots and lots of water. Plus a second coffee.

I did set my alarm to get up early to do a HIIT workout but didn't get to sleep until nearly 2am and then kept waking up. FFS again.

I need to make a list of things coming up where I could be derailed and make a plan to deal with it - eg H and I are going out for a special dinner on Friday night and I have friends over for dinner on Saturday night.

chewbacca83 · 23/04/2019 08:54

I just weighed myself and I'm 11st 7lb. Two years ago at my wedding I was 10st 4lb so I need to lose at least a stone. I'm so annoyed at myself because I'm breastfeeding and was counting on that for burning fat....turns out that if you have a packet of biscuits a day then you don't lose weight even if you're breastfeeding...who knew! Breakfast today was another spinach and banana smoothie with peanut butter.

littlecabbage · 23/04/2019 09:06

Also, breastfeeding makes some women hang on to fat reserves a bit, so it may all be easier once we stop.

I felt ridiculously shaky and weak this morning - not sure if related to this or if I'm a bit under the weather. Feel better now after porridge with a few strawbs, and two cups of decaf tea, and a Babybel for good measure! My baby is a bit off colour so woke me up loads and fed a lot so maybe it is just tiredness and dehydration.

Good luck today everyone!

TurnOffTheTv · 23/04/2019 09:11

Morning!

Was really good yesterday so I’ve seen movement on the scales already. Plan for today
B- Boiled egg, bacon, tomatoes
L-Chicken and avocado salad
D- Salmon stir fry with cauliflower rice
S- Carrots and humous

Have a great day everyone!

I'm really enjoying reading all your meal ideas. I always eat the same old things.

chewbacca83 · 23/04/2019 18:04

I've just had some dried fruit and nuts...blumin starving and dinners not for ages. Been for a long walk today though so hopefully cancelled out! Not enjoying my coffee without sugar but I'm hoping my tastebuds will adjust
