The 2019 Bunch (Thread 3): Lightly Springing into Summer!

As our old thread was almost full, here's a shiny new thread.
If there are any lurkers about, please do come and join us - we are a friendly, relaxed bunch. Although, hopefully not too relaxed as we need to see results
Summer is just around the corner, so let's do this...!

Don't seem to have posted in a while as it's all been very hectic at Wizzler Towers.
Dd and I went to Crufts where I learnt that eating your own body weight in junk food will inevitably result in a weight gain...1 lb on this week. ConfusedSo trying to get motivated again and back eating soup for lunch instead of chips and ice cream

wizzler · 13/03/2019 09:11

Carrot.. let's pull each other back up onto that Wagon!

GreyandGrumpy48 · 13/03/2019 12:13

Hi just creeping in to lurk in the corner. Things haven’t been going well either personally or eating wise. I am going away next week so I am just concentrating this week on only eating when i’m hungry and not worrying too much on what I eat. When I get back at beginning of April I will make a new plan and i’ve also arranged to start counselling then. Sorry for the essay. You all seem to be going in the right direction and I get a lot from reading your posts even if I haven’t been contributing.

PinkHeart5914 · 13/03/2019 13:20

Hello everyone

Good to see lots of us are still going and made it to thread 3 😃 Hope your all ok.

I’ve had a busy time lately what with 3 toddler dc, working dh and my own business. I feel bloody exhausted but hopefully it’s all calmed down a bit now.

Still going with my running, drinking more water and rembering my vitamin pill each day.

Food for today
B- porridge with frozen mixed berries. Black coffee
L- corned beef & salad sandwich, a 2 finger orange kitcat
D- will be jacket potatoe, beans, 2 sausages & salad

StealthNinjaMum · 13/03/2019 15:04

Just placemarking. Will be back. X

CrazyOldCatLady47 · 13/03/2019 17:45

Hi Smile

I’ve been a long time lurker of mumsnet for the past 7 years since my pregnancy with DS. First time posting because HoundsofLove encouraged me out of hiding!

I’ve followed these threads since the very beginning and used them to stop myself boring anyone in RL with yet another failed weight loss attempt.... However, I’m amazed to be able to say that I started on Boxing Day and have lost exactly two stone. I was massively inspired by FATEdestiny in the first thread.

It’s been great to read how you’re all getting on and thanks for unknowingly helping me stay on track! Wink

WhenCanISleepAgain · 13/03/2019 17:59

1lb on isn’t a huge amount after a bad week wizzler and will be gone in no time. Hello grey, hope you enjoy your week away and as you plan to re-start in April. Welcome crazyoldcat and incredible to hear you’ve lost two stone already! You’ll be able to inspire others starting next January! Hello Pink! I’m with you on feeling exhausted but I only have the one baby/toddler!

Not a great day for me and especially with tiredness and a cold. I am working from home today and found some chocolate biscuits stashed in the cupboard Blush This may sound silly but I consider it a success that I haven’t eaten them all even if I did have a few too many (I had 5).

TheHoundsofLove · 13/03/2019 18:56

wizzler You'll soon get rid of the extra lb.
It's good to see you back Grey - do take care of yourself.
Pink I'm also trying to remember to take my vitamins every day - I do think they're making quite a difference to the condition of my hair.
Welcome Crazy - 2 stones is fantastic! I'd be thrilled if I'd lost that much!
When Well done for not eating the whole packet. I absolutely can't buy chocolate biscuits as I just love them too much.

Fiontar649 · 14/03/2019 06:41

Ah Sweet Jesus! Wrote a big long good morning to you all and lost it.

You'll have to make-do instead with "morning, have a good day" Brew

StealthNinjaMum · 14/03/2019 16:22

Welcome gothamgirl, lovely to meet you.

elmashbu a dress size down is fantastic. I just find that theres a lag between when you lose the weight and when you get thinner. Keep going and in another few weeks you'll be another dress size down.

I have now finished going through my wardrobe and thrown away lots of things I don't like that were larger. The larger things I do like are in a box in case I put weight on but I hope that won't happen.

To motivate myself I had a gym induction today. My arms and legs are aching.

StealthNinjaMum · 14/03/2019 16:30

greyandgrumpy sorry things haven't been going well for you, I think you're doing the right thing, it sounds like you have lots of issues to sort out and then hopefully the diet will follow on from them.

Please stay crazycatlady I lost loads from following mums net diet threads in 2012 and then joining some. In real life I wouldn't dream of boring anyone with my diet. Well done for losing so much, how did you do it? Do you have any tips? And do you have a target you want to get to?

wizzler juts to repeat what houndsoflove said you'll soon get rid of the extra 1lb. I hope you're having a good day.

when I agree with houndsoflove again, it is an achievement for not eating the whole packet. I've done that before.

Gothamgirl1970 · 14/03/2019 17:22

Hi everyone! How are you all doing today?

Fiontar649 · 14/03/2019 19:43

Hi Gotham - a good day here, just had my dinner. Stir fry veg as per usual and I might have something else later. When I am on plan, my food doesn't vary too much, I find it easier for planning.

How are you getting on?

WhenCanISleepAgain · 14/03/2019 21:58

Hi Hounds, Gotham, Fiontar and Stealth*! Hope you’ve all had good days. I’m still under the weather and have had a busy day so am very ready to sleep now.

Fiontar649 · 15/03/2019 08:00

When - hope you got a good night's sleep and feel better after it.

I had a victory last night. I have 2 pairs of kick flare Next jeans in a 16 from years ago. 1 pair closed up nicely! The other pair is still a bit tight (they are physically smaller when I line them up... 10/10 for consistent sizing Next Confused )

Anyway! I am chuffed. I was in my 20s at Christmas, which were comfy, and 18s which were snug.

Might treat myself to a nice pair of 16s at the weekend - I don't think I will be wearing the old Next ones outside the house... they are v v v low-waisted Blush

TheHoundsofLove · 15/03/2019 11:11

20 to 16 is fantastic progress Fiontar ! A new pair of jeans sounds like a great idea.
When Hope you're feeling a bit better.
I've done a bootcamp class this morning - lots of abs and core work, which is exactly what I need!
How is everyone else getting on?

StealthNinjaMum · 15/03/2019 15:19

Hi everyone.

I'm having a good day.

I have done a workout at the gym. Then it was salad for lunch. For dinner it'll be another salad and maybe a slice of pizza and veg sticks and hummus. It's very boring but works. I'll be trying a stirfry next week. Got to do an online food order and put some thought into food for dc.

Fiontar that's amazing. I would buy some super cheap jeans because you're not going to be in 16 for long at this rate!

When I hope you're feeling better.

WhenCanISleepAgain · 15/03/2019 18:40

That’s such wonderful progress Fiontar! Think you deserve to treat yourself to some new jeans even if it’s a cheap pair because you’ll soon need the next size down.

Glad you’ve had a good day Stealth.

I feel headachy and achy still. I haven’t had the most successful day and haven’t exercised for days. Am glad it’s Saturday tomorrow!

Pinkroseuk · 15/03/2019 18:41

Thanks for the new thread :) a busy week for me so havnt been eating as well :(

Fiontar649 · 15/03/2019 19:21

Ah thanks for the boost everyone.

I am wearing freshly laundered 18s today, which aren't that big on me, but have a wee bit of wriggle room. I think I'll get the same pair in 16 and hope they fit like this in the next month or so.

Hounds - boot camp sounds both terrifying and invigorating! Are you sore after?

Stealth - boring, plain-ish, repetitive food works well for me... less likely to want to overeat when it's not very exciting!

When and Pink -hopefully the weekend brings a bit of rest after busy/poorly weeks.

Bank holiday here - so bloody excited to have an extra day off 🤗

CrazyOldCatLady47 · 16/03/2019 07:31

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone 🙂

Fiontar well done for getting back into your old wardrobe. I’ve gone from a 20 to a 16 and enjoying rediscovering my old wardrobe. I was piling weight on so quickly when I gained that I was only a 16 for a couple of months, so most of the clothes are brand new and people haven’t seen me wear them before, so I’ve had some nice comments. Especially at work, where my former staple clothing diet was leggings and long top. I’m in smart black trousers and any length tops now 😊

Stealth I think what’s working for me now is a varied mix of hints and tips from all the different ways I’ve heartheartedly tried in the
past really:

^I don’t eat anything else after my evening meal, no matter how hungry I feel.

I weigh daily. (I know some people disagree with it - but if i know it’s ages til weigh in, i will gain.)

I don’t eat pasta, bread or rice but I do eat potatoes.

I watch the amount I’m eating more than ever before. I’m eating less than ever before.

I treat myself to pasta and garlic bread if out with friends, but then it will strictly be salad or soup the rest of the day.

I eat salad every lunchtime.

I’m in the right place mentally to decide to do it, which is the key really.^

As for my goal, I’d like to lose another 3 stone to bring me to the top end of a healthy weight for my height. But I’m taking it in smaller goals. I’ve just hit the goal of seeing the next stone bracket. Next current goal is to go from obese to overweight, which means losing 1 more stone.

Does anyone else struggle most in the evenings? It’s definitely the point my self control is at its weakest.

CrazyOldCatLady47 · 16/03/2019 07:35

Oh, another thing that’s really changed for me this time round is discovering that they sell cauliflower rice in frozen packs. When I’ve low-carbed previously, I’ve struggled with what to bulk food out with and how to eat the same meals as everyone else. I’d heart of cauli rice, but assumed I’d be grating, blending and faffing with it for ages and it wouldn’t be worth. Now, 3 mins in the microwave and I have it at least twice a week but always in a nice sauce. Curry and cauli rice, sweet and sour pork and cauli rice, chicken and black bean sauce and cauli rice. Can you tell takeaways were previously a huge weakness? 😆

TheHoundsofLove · 16/03/2019 08:28

Fiontar When I started doing the classes, I could hardly move the next day. But, I've got so much fitter and I just feel slight aching now!
Crazy You sound like you're doing brilliantly. I think being in the right mental place is absolutely key. I feel the same.

I've weighed myself this morning and have lost another 2lbs this week - bringing my total to 12lbs. But, I've also measured myself and I've lost 2 inches from my bust, 3 inches from my waist and 3 inches from my hips! Grin

STS this week. But food hasn't been golden and have a cold, so not complaining.
Hope everyone is doing well x

WhenCanISleepAgain · 16/03/2019 11:54

Hounds - that’s fantastic, well done! You must be very pleased with those results.
Enjoy the bank holiday Fiontar!
Hope you feel better soon aurorie

I’m feeling so much better and have just come in from a run and a swim. I feel like I’ve had the chance to recalibrate today and have considered some of my bigger picture goals that aren’t just about weight loss - like wellness and energy as well as fun and enjoyment of family times. It’s a reminder that deep down I want these things more than unhealthy food.

I also read an article in The Guardian review today: Under the Skin - The Truth About What We Eat. Some sobering things about how our eating has changed (some fruit grown for sweetness now have less goodness in them), how life is getting better worldwide but diets worse, how a leading cause of mortality worldwide is diet and, ‘Most of our problems with eating come down to the fact that we have not yet adapted to the new realities of plenty, either biologically or psychologically’. Also highlighting the marketing and availability of unhealthy food as a cause. Sorry for the essay but I found it interesting and anothernudge towards healthy choices and looking to avoid those trying to market me rubbish.
