Half a stone off in March

SingaporeSlinky · 01/03/2019 09:03

Carrying on from the February thread and new joiners welcome, fresh slate for March!

I’ve weighed in today at 10st 1lb so I’m determined to at the very least get down to 9-something this month! Ideally the half stone by the end of March when I go on holiday. Who’s in?

Well I spectacularly fell off the wagon yesterday after an impromptu night out on Friday. I drank Gin and slimline tonic so not so but but oh my god, the hangover carb monster was released on Saturday. Starting with a magnum and crisps for breakfast and finishing with a KFC. Sad I’m back on it today but just feel what good I did all week was shattered with a one day pig out. Hope everyone else has a good weekend so far.

ZsaZsaMc · 03/03/2019 10:14

Harrykanesrightsock oh we’ve all be there with the carb monster 😂

I’ve done OK so far. Today having slow cooked beef (haven’t checked the points) but will go easy on the carbs.

Trying to stick with low point breakfasts as I definitely prefer a better dinner.

Crazzzycat · 03/03/2019 13:02

*Harrykanesrightsock we’ve all been there. You can’t change what happened yesterday. It’s what you do today that counts, so good for you for getting back on track.

I have my first weight loss to report of just under 2 lbs! My weight tends to come off in stages, and this came after a week of no changes whatsoever.

Even though I now know the pattern of my weight loss, those weeks where nothing happens can make it hard to stay motivated. Still, this loss was definitely worth waiting for! Smile

MrsVoleTheVet · 03/03/2019 13:52

Hi everyone! Please can I join you? I lost 10lb before Christmas by exercising and logging on MFP, and have somehow put it all back on again since the new year😭.

I felt great and I'm cross with myself that I let it all go. I know once I get back into things that I'll rekindle my motivation... I just need to keep up the self-discipline.

I posted on another weight-loss thread then, which really helped.

Congratulations to those who have been making healthy progress!

MrsVoleTheVet · 03/03/2019 13:54

Ps, to those asking about belly fat, I notice a big difference when I am drinking a good amount of water - I'm much more bloated when I don't drink enough.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 14:13

Thanks for the tips about drinking more water, that would fit as I’ve been having a few coffees, one green tea and maybe one glass of squash, so will try that this week.

Harry we all have bad days, I’m sure you won’t have done too much damage, as long as you crack on today.

My scales said 9st 13 (and 3/4 which I’ve been ignoring) this morning. I don’t want to celebrate being 9-something too soon though in case I’m back up tomorrow as it’s only a quarter pound under, easily a drink or something I’m sure.

I’ve noticed I’m a bit spotty the last few days. Did someone mention that in the February thread? I googled it and it said it can be a side effect of ketosis, literally the fat cells breaking down and the toxins coming out through the pores. Don’t know if that’s true or not though.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 14:15

MrsVole at least you know you’ve managed it before. What happened since January, did you stop logging everything and went back to normal, or did you think you were still being sensible, but weren’t really? Would be useful to know as a tip for the rest of us once it comes to maintaining what we’ve lost. I’m worried I’ll lose weight specifically for my holiday, have 2 weeks all inclusive and undo my hard work.

OP posts:
MrsVoleTheVet · 03/03/2019 14:43

Hi Slinky,
What happened? Hahaha well, I gave myself Christmas 'off', then the family days, then I waited for the kids to go back to school, then just another day or so, and here we are!

Do the moral of the story (for me) is make planned exceptions, and stick to them, don't use them as a licence to go mad. The frustrating thing is that I felt so much better at the healthier weight, I looked better, my clothes fit better, better skin, better mood... all for the sake of too many biscuits, and sitting down for 30mons extra on run day.

Hangs head in biscuit-shame.

MrsVoleTheVet · 03/03/2019 14:46

slinky -btw I think its fine to let yourself off the hook for your holiday! If you plan for business as usual afterwards and actually stick to it, then you'll be totally fine in the scheme of things.

It's good to have a motivating reason anyway, maybe I need to plan something exciting in my life where there will be photos!

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 14:59

MrsVole oh I see, I thought it was just since January but that makes total sense if it includes Christmas! That’s one reason I waited to start until January as I wanted to enjoy Christmas. Problem is I went too far and really pigged out on chocolates and then you do wonder if it was worth it. Anyway, the main thing is that we’re on track and headed for a healthier summer! Good too that you know how it felt to be healthier, so that’s very motivating in itself. I don’t really feel any different yet.

Yes I do look back on my holiday photos and see the big tummy, big arms and legs and think it’ll be nice if I can see a noticeable difference this time. Before a holiday or family event I always say I’ll lose weight and never do, so it’ll be great to show people, and myself, that I can do it.

Well today I’ve had just coffee for breakfast, a big leafy salad with a small amount of baguette with butter on for lunch, and roast chicken being cooked by DH for dinner. For some reason I couldn’t sleep last night and didn’t drop off until gone 4am, which is very unlike me. So not much energy today but still managing to resist old habits of snacking my way through the day.

OP posts:
MrsVoleTheVet · 03/03/2019 15:19

Yes to snacking to get through the day!

I saved a brilliant MN thread about low-calorie snacks, which I read through every now and again for inspiration.

I could just eat your salad with a chunk of baguette...

Spicylolly · 03/03/2019 16:03

I'm a bit late to the party but can I join in please ☺
Finally got my head back in the right place to sort myself out , I'm bloody massive...combination over the last 3 years of broken ankle, vestibular problems, moving, mainly excuses oh and a sh!t tonne of prosecco!

Weighed myself Thursday and I'm a disgusting 16 s 7lb (in my defence I'm 5,8 & the fat has had the decency to spread itself pretty evenly all over me lol)
So I'd like to get down to 12 stone as I'm a happy size 12/14 at that weight ☺

Luckily I don't have a sweet tooth and eat heathily, just too much of it not enough exercise and too much booze. So cutting down the bad stuff and upping the weights. Fingers crossed I can loose more than 7lbs this month, also going to look into fasting to kick start the loss 👍☺

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 16:25

Welcome Spicy do you go to a gym or exercise at home?

OP posts:
Spicylolly · 03/03/2019 16:52

We've got a home gym so no excuses, I'm just lazy....would rather be watching Netflix and drinking sparkly than working out haha 😆

VivaFrida · 03/03/2019 17:06

Hello I'd like to join you if I may.

My name is Frida, my starting weight is 70 kg and my goal weight is 56 Kg so I have a fair bit to go (14kg or 2.2 stone in old money).

My problems are portion control and anxiety/emotional eating. I am having therapy, which is helping, but I thought being part of a "community" would also help.

I am following the 'old' weight watchers plan with an app (ultimate value food diary) because I used this plan to lose weight when I have children and it worked well. Anything which has "free" foods is off limits for me as I tend to overeat free foods.

I am looking forward to taking part in this challenge.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 17:40

Welcome Frida it’s amazing how portion sizes creep up isn’t it. Now that I’m weighing mine and logging calories in MFP is realise I was probably having 50% more than I should, not to mention snacks in between.

OP posts:
ZsaZsaMc · 03/03/2019 19:06

Well done slinky on getting a 9 on the scales! This is my target too.

Pre baby I used to hover around 10st 5 and if I tried I could get down to 10 but haven’t seen a 9 on the scales probably since I was 13! I’m short so half a stone makes a big difference and also pushes me into the overweight BMI.

ZsaZsaMc · 03/03/2019 19:11

Hi Frida what are the differences between old and new ww? Just that there are free foods? I’m doing the new one on the app as can’t keep up calorie counting.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 19:56

Thanks ZsaZsa I wish I’d written down all the numbers really, as my scales are by Weight Watchers and tell me by BMI and % body fat. They’ve both obviously gone down but I can’t remember the exact numbers. I’ve input my numbers into the NHS BMI calculator and according to that my BMI has gone down from ‘overweight’ at 25.5 to a ‘healthy’ 23.9 now so that’s good.

Did anyone watch that Junk Food Experiment programme where the celebs ate only pizza, fried chicken or burgers for 3 weeks? Obviously it was a very extreme version but it really made me think about the unseen damage inside our bodies, like the layers of fatty deposits clinging to our internal organs. Pretty gross. Might explain why sometimes people have said their weight has dropped even though they can’t feel it in inches, I wonder if it’s fat inside burning off as opposed to the layers around the stomach for example.

Can I join you all? I'm currently 10st 8 and want to get under 10.
I'm breastfeeding a nearly 6 month old so have upped my calorie allowance on mfp to 1700. I'm trying to do low carb due to the fact that I'm carrying a LOT of that weight on my belly. 😔
I've been doing lots of walking and have started mum and baby yoga - I've already lost about 5lb since January but it didn't make a difference to belly - hence now attempting low carb. It's going to hurt as I've basically been living in toast, cake and chocolate to keep going.

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 20:41

Welcome thisone sounds like you’re doing well so far already. 6 months post baby is completely normal though to still have belly weight, so don’t push yourself too hard. I did used to love all the cakes and biscuits at baby groups!
I’m trying to shift belly too, sick of holding it in all the time and having a roll there.

peachpearplum01 · 03/03/2019 20:43

Had a good start to the month and weighed in yesterday / today just over 9.4 (target is 9).. but then today had a lovely roast lamb dinner with red wine and ate two portions of desert (small but still!). Normally I wouldn’t have logged a meal like that on myfitness oal and would have written the day off but I logged it today and it came over 1500 cals... oops! Still it was bloody delicious... will hopefully make up for it this week! Hope you’ve had good Sunday’s...

thisonebreath · 03/03/2019 20:47

Thank you. If thought I'd try some fitness videos on YouTube this week as the weather's going to be pants. I'm not naturally sporty so that'll be interesting...Grin

SingaporeSlinky · 03/03/2019 20:50

Well done for logging it peach, on my occasional write-off days I’ve still logged it too. 1500 isn’t that bad, technically women are allowed 2000 so although you wouldn’t lose weight, it’s not like you went crazy. Are you doing 1200?
I came in at 913 kcals today even with my chicken Sunday roast. I weighed out the chicken, 3 roast potatoes, veg, gravy and a Yorkshire pud. I’d only had a small lunch so had a few more maltesers buttons tonight.

Hi all, you all sound do motivational so can I join?
14.13 - a whole 2st heavier than when I was pregnant. Dd is now 3 I can no longer use baby weight excuse!
I’ve lost 3.5st in the past using MFP but as my eating is off the rails at the moment I’m focusing on lower carb, healthy meals and running. Once I’m back in the zone will start with MFP again.
