Half a stone off in March

SingaporeSlinky · 01/03/2019 09:03

Carrying on from the February thread and new joiners welcome, fresh slate for March!

I’ve weighed in today at 10st 1lb so I’m determined to at the very least get down to 9-something this month! Ideally the half stone by the end of March when I go on holiday. Who’s in?

Hi

So we flew home from holiday today and I've just weighed myself as I felt really bloated and uncomfortable and sure I'd put on loads. Currently weighing 11st13 as an end of day weight and was 11st11 as an early morning weight before we went so I don't think too much damage has happened, despite eating at least 2 plates of food for every meal (can't stand not trying things on a buffet and feeling like I'm missing out!) and drinking gin, wine and beer!!

So I'll weigh in properly tomorrow, and head to the supermarket with my healthy shopping list and then to the gym around 12 when it's quietest. I've got 6 weeks until my next holiday and really want to shift as much as I can before then so I think at least 12lbs off tomorrow mornings weight should be possible in that time

Wond3rment · 03/03/2019 21:08

I’d love to join too please. I have been so demotivated about addressing my weight and as a result ignoring my sugar addiction. I am at my heaviest, 9st 2lbs (I am short 😁).

Have a big family occasion next month so I would like to shed 5.5lbs and reduce the impact sugar is having on my skin.

Ribeebie · 03/03/2019 21:29

Can I join too please? Had my first baby 3 months ago and struggling to lose pregnancy weight. Am breastfeeding so not keen to 'diet' as worried about affecting my supply but really need to cut out the snacking and get back to the gym. Done a healthy shop today and DH back from latest work trip so should finally have a bit of baby free time to get to the gym again!

I'm 2 months into my weight loss journey and in need of being part of a community like this, love to join too please? I'm currently 15st 13lbs, starting at 17st 9lbs at the end of October's, lost a stone in 2 months just by exercise 3 times a week in Oct/ Nov, but not starting my healthy eating Till Middle of jan which has boosted the lbs to go. Currently I do 5-7 days a week exercise, including weights and cardio, and I eat clean most of the time but I need to motivation to carry on and eat clean all the time.

whatthefoxsaid · 04/03/2019 06:35

Morning, and hello to new joiners! I had a cheat yesterday- I knew about it in advance and decided to enjoy it rather than try to stick to plan. I didn't go mad but I'm ready to get back on it today.
Does anybody meal plan? I did last week and it made it a lot easier. I haven't got many ideas this week so having a think about it over a cup of tea!

Pyracantha1 · 04/03/2019 06:52

I would love to join too!

I am still about 10kg over from my pre-pregnancy weight. None of my old clothes fit and I'm sick of being this heavy.

I am 171cm and currently 75kg.

I have downloaded the Sweat App and am trying to go the gym.

Would be great to get support on this thread!

topcat2014 · 04/03/2019 06:55

I measure in KG as it is less emotive. Currently 82kg and would like to be 75kg. Usually give up chocolate, crisps, cake, biscuits for lent too.

Faultymain5 · 04/03/2019 07:02

I’m still sick, so not exercising, but also not eating much either. This cough is killing me. Starting the week at 9st 13.1/4lb

TickVG · 04/03/2019 07:25

Morning all. Well done with losses so far this month and welcome to all those joining! Renewed vigour in March is helping as weighing in today at 10st 3.5lbs. I've been monitoring this for a few days as didn't quite believe it when I was still hovering around 10st 6-7 mid last week but maybe was water retention which the breastfeeding seems to do some mornings. Really pleased to have now gone below pre pregnancy weight. And pleased with total WeightLoss since giving birth in early dec- a few days after the birth I was 13st 12lbs! Am aiming to continue with 2lbs a week loss and hopefully get down to 9st 8lbs which would take me just below a BMI of 23 and hence reduce diabetes risk (I'm in a risk group). This will be hard as my normal weight was always around the 10st mark. And last time around baby-wise it took me 6 months to lose the initial weight then 2 years for the last 7lbs. But I feel like this (meticulous monitoring through MFP, planning meals, moderate exercise rather than going mad then feeling constantly hungry) is the best and most sustainable way I've ever found to do weight loss so am going to carry on doing what I'm doing! Smile

MrsVoleTheVet · 04/03/2019 08:07

Good morning everyone!

It's great to see so many people are being sensible (not going mad) and losing steadily.

I resisted a Cadbury's Creme egg last night, so now I'm feeling invincible... ;)

Plan- drink 3x flasks of water
20min jog through the wind , easing my way back up to 1/2 hr.

Snack on carrots and pickled onions.

Don't eat any of the Easter eggs I have stashed.

Sending solidarity to all 💪

MrsVoleTheVet · 04/03/2019 08:08

Ps, is it best to weigh weekly or daily? I can't decide...

VivaFrida · 04/03/2019 08:24

Hi all and good morning and thank you so much for the welcome @ SingaporeSlinky it means a lot to be welcomed by the thread "owner". Glad things are going so well for you!

@ZsaZsaMc the old ww system is more similar to calories counting but in a simplified way in the sense that each food has a certain amounts of points and you count down from your daily allowance (mine is 23), but you do not count fruits and vegetables (they are "zero points"); whereas the new ww system has a lot of zero points foods (chicken, tuna, eggs, chickpeas, beans, lean meat, fat free natural yogurt...) that you do not count through your daily allowance; which works for some but for me it's an authorisation to overeat.

I am happy with fruits and veg being "zero points" (and I admit a tad of inconsistency here) as I never overeat those, frankly it wasn't bananas that made me overweight; in fact, when i am on a spiralling gain weight anxiety period I do not eat any fruits and vegs at all but fill myself with quick sugar fix crap.

At WW they say "eat until you are full" regarding the "zero points" foods but that does not work for my emotional eating. Sometimes when I am upset I do not want to eat and must almost force myself and at times there is a hole like the channel tunnel in my stomach.

In the past, the best way to overcome my emotional eating, has been eating regularly, controlling my food intake, and re-educating myself about foods in what my therapist calls "periods of adversity".

So that is why I have sought a system that was based on the old ww system and found it in this app, which is not perfect - for instance is not great at calculating eating out food options - but a lot better than the new system that has been a failure for me.

huge disclaimer if you are doing the new WW system and it works for you please take zero points notice of this post, just keep going and be happy it's working for you and that your head is in the right place! Just stating what works and does not work for me.

VivaFrida · 04/03/2019 08:33

Great weight loss @TickVG!

Ok me:

Starting date: Wednesday 3/3/19 - starting weight 70.3 kg, BMI 25.8 - overweight.
Diet: old ww pro points style with Ultimate Food Diary.
Exercise: aiming for 20/30 mins structured exercise a day and 10,000 steps per day.

I haven't finished my first week yet so not sure how it's going! But I love this thread and I'll keep you all posted!

VivaFrida · 04/03/2019 09:07

Gaah, my starting date was Wednesday 27 February not 3 March - ??? I don't know on what planet's calendar I am working with...

Welcome Ellie Wond3rment Ribeebie Doodle Millionaire Tiazz Pyracantha1
Wow lots of joiners, sorry if I missed anyone!

MrsVole I tend to weigh daily, purely so I can make a change quickly if I see any upward movement rather than getting a shock if I leave it a week and I’ve put on a few pounds. That would make me feel like I’d wasted a week. But I think lots of people would say it’s more sensible to do it weekly if you’re looking for a long term sensible loss. I’ve got a holiday I’m initially trying to lose for in 4 weeks, so I don’t want a whole week to pass with no loss. Plus, there can be variation day to day, so if I waited a week and was retaining fluid around my period, for example, I’d be disheartened by no losses. Now I track daily, I know I gain 2 pounds on mine.

Well done Tick you’re doing really well!

Frida I’m not sure I could lose any weight if all of those foods you listed were zero points either. If you put all of those on a plate together without any portion control, it seems odd to me that none of it would ‘count’. Hopefully it works for some, but I agree it wouldn’t work for me.

So I’m off to a good start for the new week, I walked the kids to school then went for a 20 minute (very slow) run. I like going in the morning as it’s out of the way now and I’m more motivated not to undo my hard work by eating back the calories! Having a green tea and some berries and then off to the shops looking for more holiday clothes (can I log that as cardio??) Smile

MrsVoleTheVet · 04/03/2019 10:37

Slinky definitely cardio!

Good points about the daily weigh-in, thanks.

I also went for a jog after the school run, I was really dreading it, but it was actually fine. The first step is always the hardest etc.

SingaporeSlinky · 04/03/2019 13:30

Back from shopping and managed to squeeze into a size 12 jeans from H&M! I’ve been a size 14 for about 10 years or more, and was starting to creep to a size 16 so that gave me such a boost! It could be vanity sizing, I’m probably not a 12 yet, but I’ve certainly bought 14 and 16 in H&M before so at least it’s a direct comparison. They were a tiny bit snug round the waist, but not so much that I have muffin top so that’s a result!

OP posts:
TickVG · 04/03/2019 13:58

Fantastic singapore! Jeans shopping can be the absolute worst when you are at the wrong end of a diet- it sounds like you've really made a difference to your body shape. In my experience H&M don't vanity size- I reckon if you're a 12 there you're a 12 in most places!

MegBusset · 04/03/2019 13:59

Hello all, can I join? I have already lost a couple of lbs and am currently 9st 8lb - I'd have to lose a limb to sustain a 9st 1lb weight but hoping to get to 9st 4lb and stay there (the hard bit!).

I'm not calorie counting at the moment because it drives me insane. Instead I'm sticking to a very light breakfast (porridge) and lunch (veg soup and an apple), no snacks apart from a bag of popcorn in the afternoon, and a normal dinner which is usually healthy - I like veg and salad and don't eat meat so that helps.

No formal exercise at the moment (time constraints plus it seems to make me a bit obsessed and then burn out quicker) but I do a fair amount of walking and run around the house trying to keep on top of the mess :)

SingaporeSlinky · 04/03/2019 14:14

Welcome Meg - sounds like you don’t have much to lose so the sensible eating is a good way to go.

Thanks Tick it’s so confusing too, as some clothes are listed in standard 10, 12, 14 etc and then others were by waist size. I thought my waist was 33inch around the slimmest part, but when I tried on a 32” they were too big and I ended up with one pair a size 12 and one pair a 29” which made no sense to where I thought I was. Maybe I’m measuring wrong. It certainly put a spring in my step, I was practically skipping around the supermarket afterwards Grin

OP posts:
TickVG · 04/03/2019 14:25

Mm yes waist size is confusing isn't it! I was actually measuring mine yesterday and based on where I thought it was I got 33 inches, then based on the below nhs website instructions I went higher up and got 31 inches which I prefer! Grin I'm a bit bigger than you and at moment always go for size 12 in trousers. Though I'm an apple shape so if I go for high rise jeans then 12s can be a little snug.

To measure your waist:
• find the bottom of your ribs and the top of your hips
• wrap a tape measure around your waist, midway between these points
• breathe out naturally before taking the measurement

whatthefoxsaid · 04/03/2019 14:26

Nice one Singapore I find h&m tiny sizing tbh! I went in there looking for a suit and left thoroughly depressed!
I'm having a serious afternoon slump. I'm so tempted to have some chocolate but I'm making a cup of tea and will go for a walk if it stops raining.

SingaporeSlinky · 04/03/2019 15:03

Ok thanks both, I’ll take that then! They had some really nice trousers in there today for £8.99 so even if I keep losing weight and need a smaller size again, it won’t break the bank. Also bought a sleeveless top which looked really nice on and made me think my arms had slimmed down slightly too. I’m loving these NSVs as ultimately the number on the scale doesn’t mean much, but how you feel in your clothes and looking in a mirror, and having more energy feels great. I was happily walking up the escalators instead of standing still and didn’t get out of breath, so small things like that really give me a confidence boost.

Oh whathefox don’t give in! Cup of tea will hopefully do the trick. Even if it’s raining, maybe do something else indoors? Star jumps, walking upstairs etc?
