Last year I was gutted at being 13st.

I'm now 17st 2lbs.

I've done nothing but emotionally eat all year, fuelled by depression and anxiety. To the point where I've become mildly agoraphobic.

This has got to be the year I turn my life and poor eating habits around.

I don't know where to start.

I know the title is quite harsh but I've been telling myself it's not so bad.

But it is.

I'm fat. Very fat. And I need to correct it.

Day 8 of my diet and lol I've been dreaming about food 😳 in one of them there was a Cola flavoured pastry with custard (does this even exist? 🤢) and I just had to have it.
The first few days were easier, I am struggling now though.

PennyLaneIsInMyHeart · 10/01/2019 13:16

Notanotheruser111 thanks, yes looking at my calories over the week could be better-would I just need to add up each day over the 7 on my fitness pal? Or is there a better way to monitor on there do you know?

Sorry I can't remember who mentioned low carb but I think I would really struggle as a veggie who doesn't eat eggs or quorn

PennyLaneIsInMyHeart · 10/01/2019 13:19

Can I ask how many calories people are aiming for? Also, can explain 16:8 please?

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 10/01/2019 13:23

Drink more water / squash! - My aim is for 3 litres a day!

Worriedmum99 · 10/01/2019 14:41

I’m aiming for 1400 calories a day which works for me (so far, though early days).

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 14:57

Candace - I am doing the '8 week blood sugar diet' which is 800 calories a day and yes I have been sticking to it to pretty rigidly. On a particularly hungry day I might have got to 1000 calories but that's still a low calorie diet. I am eating the recipes in the accompanying book and the foods involved are similar to what AlwaysCheerful describes as her core diet (protein and vegetables with some dairy and some fruit, no refined carbs at all and avoiding the very carby vegetables like potatoes and carrots). Its good to hear that you have had such success with it loveisenough

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 14:58

PennyLane as you are a veggie who doesn't eat eggs and corn I agree that the low carb approach is probably not for you. What is going to be your eating plan?

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 14:59

I mean quorn, doh!

Alwayscheerful · 10/01/2019 15:59

@PennyLaneIsInMyHeart 16/8 is where you fast for16 hours and eat during an 8 hour window.
I aim for 800 calories knowing I will go over and have nothing left for dinner but then have 20p calories in reserve. I am happy to end the day in 1000 calories but I was strict for the first 4 weeks.
MFP will not let me close the day on less than 1000 calories and I need that weight projection estimate to spur me on.

Alwayscheerful · 10/01/2019 16:00

200 calories on reserve

Emmab515 · 10/01/2019 16:17

So I weighed in at 16st 10lb this morning so 7lb off since new year.
Have had a couple of treats as it was my sons birthday so had cake and a donut. I have only managed to do the cross trainer every over day at best.
Anyway still happy! Trying to drink lots of water but needing to see a million times a day.. does that every get better?

Emmab515 · 10/01/2019 16:18

*needing to WEE a million times 🙈

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 17:30

Well done Emmab515

PennyLaneIsInMyHeart · 10/01/2019 19:24

Fantastic, well done Emma!

Ok, I am thinking that 16:8 could work then. I work nights (9 hour shift) and actually don't always eat at work. If I do it's a cereal bar or some fruit, so I could use some of these hours to fast. Maybe have food at 9pm (if working) then eat again when I wake the next afternoon 🤔

Rayn · 10/01/2019 19:38

I have put two stone on in 12 months. Aiming for a pound a week then it should stay off. Do it slowly x

StellaRockafella · 10/01/2019 21:29

Just an update to say I'm on day 10 of no sugar or processed foods, and following the principles of 16:8 fasting and eating keto style low-carb. It seems to be going very well. I don't own any scales and don't intend to buy some, I've chosen a piece of clothing I want to fit back into as my motivation.

Today at work 4 separate colleagues asked if I'd lost a little weight as they've noticed my face is looking noticeably slimmer, and that's in addition to someone a few days ago asking the same thing. I can see it too, my cheekbones has emerged again for the first time in 2 years. I feel good and definitely looking more like myself. I've still a way to go, am looking to lose a minimum of 25 lbs.

I hope others on here who are seeing encouraging results feel likewise - there really are some wonderful losses so far! And to those still trying to take the plunge, good luck - you can do it!

Notanotheruser111 · 10/01/2019 22:48

Well done Emma, great start, and Stella sounds like your plan is working.

I had a bad day yesterday, did grocery shopping in the morning so missed my usual exercise time planned to do it later but my mum dropped in and by the time she left it was dinner time, but back on the bike today.

Pineapple welcome never to late to join

Milliy · 11/01/2019 01:39

flapjackfairy why don't you join us in the giving up dieting thread.

TwllBach · 12/01/2019 11:35

I am just popping on to update - I weighed and measured myself again this morning and have lost another 4lb, bringing me up to 7.5lb since Tuesday 1st, which I am really happy with. I haven't been as strict/good with my eating this week so I was hoping for maybe 0.5/1lb off so I am super pleased. I'm also on my period so definitely wasn't expecting a loss. I've dropped 3cm on my waist and 2cm on my hips too.

I am hoping to have lost a stone, total, by the end of January, so 19 days, but we are going away for five days on 28th so I imagine I will relax a bit then - even if just because there won't be a blender so I can't have a smoothie for breakfast!

Candace19 · 12/01/2019 11:52

@TwllBach that's fab news. Well done 🎉

chatwoo · 12/01/2019 11:59

I have lost 2kg (4.4lb) this week. All I have done is stick to 1700kcal (as per My Fitness Pal recommended target) but I have been horrified to realise that this isn't a huge amount of food, depending on what's actually chosen to fill those calories of course... and my previous eating habits were very much out of hand. Even though I thought I wasn't actually 'being that bad' and liked to believe I was fairly clued up on this stuff Blush

So if nothing else, I am getting a good education on my reality vs. actual reality Grin

TwllBach · 12/01/2019 12:41

chatwoo I feel the same about the calories and realising just how much I was eating before - also thinking it wasn't 'that bad.' Things like if DS didn't eat his dinner I would eat it but they wouldn't feel like part of my calorie intake Blush because it wasn't 'intended' food! I have also been weighing my ingredients to things, or like my salad dressing etc and have been surprised firstly by how much I was eating/using and secondly how little is actually needed to improve a dish when you are being conscious about it.

chatwoo · 12/01/2019 13:01

@TwllBach yes it's a bit of an eye opener isn't it...

I am starting to weigh things and at least want to get a basic understanding of, say, average weight of an apple, or bread roll. Then at least I can make better judgements without having to walk around with kitchen scales in my bag!

Am going to do some prep tomorrow afternoon, so I've got stuff to take for lunch at work next week. It's too difficult to find pre-prepared foods near the office, that aren't going to blow my calorie 'budget'!

NeedChoos · 12/01/2019 16:40

Ok not doing too bad. 2 excerise classes and have logged with mfp all week ... weigh in Monday. Walked to and from work and wk1 run1 of c25k...no booze except a cosmopolitan last night...

GlitterPixie · 12/01/2019 17:12

I definitely need help I know logically what I have to do to lose weight but I just can’t kickstart myself into doing it ☹️ I’m 5ft and 16 stone my diet is 95% sugar and I only leave the house about once a week (work from home). I’m fed up of the constant aches and pains and breathlessness from being so overweight and can’t even walk more than about 100m without pains in my joints getting too bad. I need some motivation and accountability! I know it needs a two pronged attack of diet and exercise
