Last year I was gutted at being 13st.

I'm now 17st 2lbs.

I've done nothing but emotionally eat all year, fuelled by depression and anxiety. To the point where I've become mildly agoraphobic.

This has got to be the year I turn my life and poor eating habits around.

I don't know where to start.

I know the title is quite harsh but I've been telling myself it's not so bad.

But it is.

I'm fat. Very fat. And I need to correct it.

JeffMark: lions are lazy fuckers they sleep for up to 22 hours a day!

ImBreakingBad · 08/01/2019 16:05

Here it comes - I’m a year post-baby and I’m like a mess! I was 8 stone 5, I’m not 10 stone 7 and can’t get it off! I’m a fussy eater and love cola.

Bloody help me!!

Gave up Cola on the 1st and so far so good.

PennyLaneIsInMyHeart · 08/01/2019 22:51

Right, I need to bloody up my game. I have a few days where I stick to calories, then fail and think 'fuck it'.

I am so unhappy with my weight. The impact on my confidence and general get up and go is extreme at the moment.

Notanotheruser111 · 08/01/2019 23:10

PennyLane would thinking of the calories over the whole week help? That way if you have a blow out you can think of making it up later in the week?

What I’ve noticed a lot about myself and others I know trying to lose weight is that we pick a plan or a diet and if we deviate from it we see that as a failure and often give up. The old saying about the diet that works is the one that you can stick to is kind of true but very few people skinny or fat can stick to a diet everyday of their lives. But ultimately if you have more good days then bad then you should still see a positive result it might just be slower.

LimitIsUp · 09/01/2019 09:05

Notanotheruser I agree. I find it useful to think of the 80:20 rule. If you are virtuous and stick to your diet strictly for 80% of the time, then a few slips up (20%) are not going to derail your efforts

Breaking, Penny would you consider a low carb diet? I find its the only thing that works for me.

Last night I felt nauseous and had a headache, turns out it was the 'keto flu' (its a thing!) - apparently not uncommon whilst your body adjusts. Low carb diets can affect your electrolyte balance in the early stages. Googled and the suggestion was that I drank a large glass of water with half a teaspoon of salt to restore electrolytes - did so and felt better within the hour. Worth bearing in mind

ImBreakingBad · 09/01/2019 09:26

I think I’ll need to try it. I practically live of rice and potatoes. How much would you consider as low?

Notanotheruser111 · 09/01/2019 11:15

Today I made my goal of doing 30 minutes on the bike, which felt fantastic even though my legs felt a bit like jelly afterwards. It was only a couple of weeks ago I could barely get to 15 minutes, it’s given me a bit of a motivational push.

LimitIsUp · 09/01/2019 11:25

BreakingBad - essentially you need a low carb cookbook or perhaps invest in one of the Michael Mosley books as he has a number of good recipes in each one.

I've been doing the 8 week blood sugar diet by Michael Mosley since Friday and in that time have eaten/ drunk no rice, no potatoes, no bread, no cakes, no biscuits, no crisps, no alcohol etc - but with a weigh in tomorrow it looks like I will be clocking in a 6-8lb loss for my first week (I had a sneaky peak this morning); so it gets results, and fast. That might sound unsustainable but in the longer term, once at weight maintenance, I don't think the odd potato, bit of wholegrain rice or occasional slice of toast with a full English breakfast will be an issue. I also intend to drink alcohol in social situations (when out for the evening or at 'events')

I am following the meals in the '8 week blood sugar diet' book - and despite the low carb, a surprising number of them are quite tasty.

It might not be for you but low carb is the only thing that works for me

Candace19 · 09/01/2019 16:37

How's everyone's motivation ? Are you still feeling committed ?

I'm still fairly motivated but am craving a sugar fix 🤪

jammf · 09/01/2019 18:26

I'm doing ok. Still doing 16:8 which is working for me. I don't eat until 12 every day and I was hungry this morning by 11 but I was busy at work and it passed and I didn't eat until 1pm today.
I'm really surprising myself how much less I'm eating. Going for a walk at lunchtime too and getting more steps in on treadmill in the evenings.
I'm one week in now and lost 4lbs so far.
I'd like to think I can remain this motivated but we'll see.

Candace19 · 09/01/2019 19:39

Well done @jammf that's a really good start. I darent even weigh myself to get my starting weight!

I resisted the sugar fix and feel good that I didn't give in

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 07:34

Week one weigh in today - 8lbs off Shock Smile

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 07:36

Only another 70lbs to go [sceptical]

LimitIsUp · 10/01/2019 07:37

Or even Hmm

Blush
Candace19 · 10/01/2019 08:37

Wowee @LimitIsUp that's a great start! How did you do it ? Have you struggled ?
I have about the same to lose 🙁

ZigZagZombie · 10/01/2019 09:37

Dragging myself off to the shops in a mo as the cupboards are bare (good for weight loss). Didn't weigh in until I'd had 4 cups of coffee + water so I've no idea. Will try weighing tomorrow BEFORE!

I'm really enjoying the food (8-week BS) - I love fresh tasty veg with protein and because it's calorie-controlled you can sneak something in - as long as you remove something else!

I think there has been a dangerous creep with the whole calorie thing. Whilst we all know "not all calories are created equally" (basic nutrition can tell you that) - when I was a child in the 70s it was VERY normal to hear our mothers talking about wanting to lose weight and sticking to 800 calories a day.

Then came the message "you're a woman you should eat 1700 (?) minimum otherwise it's too unhealthy". So I personally think we've been kidding ourselves about how much we can eat...

When you hit 15 stone surely it's more unhealthy to be 15 stone than to eat LC for a few months? Confused

Just my 2 cents.

Notanotheruser111 · 10/01/2019 09:59

Well done Limit.

Saffronesque · 10/01/2019 10:10

Brilliant first week, Limit!

Last2Know · 10/01/2019 11:56

@LimitIsUp I have just researched that diet you speak of and it appeals to me. Although I do love potatoes so it will be difficult.

I need to get lots of spices and stuff to liven up fish and meat.

So yeah, thanks for that - I hadn't heard of it.

I am on day one. I have made a few wrong choices as was not sure where I am going with this diet. I had special K and a banana but the sugars are still too high.

Tomorrow's brekkie will be a quick scrambled egg with spinach rather than the cereal.

I am doing a food shop tonight so will try to plan that around this med diet.

PineappleTart · 10/01/2019 12:01

Am I too late to join in? Weighed myself Monday and am a shocking 16 stone 11. Something really needs to give and I could do with some help. I didn't really overeat too much over Christmas but I put away a shocking amount of alcohol so that's done for now.

Alwayscheerful · 10/01/2019 12:21

@colditz on Monday Re After Eights, "slot them in my face like it's a postbox" hilarious, but so true!

Fasting 18/6 is working for me.
I keep my carbs to around 50 a day and aim to eat no bread, potatoes, rice or pasta, I mostly eat vegetables grown above the ground and a small amount of underground vegetables plus salad.
Protein no bigger than a pack of cards, I am rotating tinned Mackerel In olive oil, fresh salmon, chicken, rib eye steak or Avocado, warm bacon and hard boiled egg.

Fage full fat Greek yoghurt 5% as a treat because it's virtually carb free. With berries or a drizzle of pomegranate syrup.
If I can miss breakfast and eat my first meal at 12 the day tends to go well.
I read somewhere that eating carbs means you also retain 3x or was it 5x times the amount in water.
4llbs loss each week for the first 3 weeks and now seem to be averaging 2llbs a week.
New scales from Amazon arrived the next day £15 very accurate, 1200 5 star reviews but I might buy another set to blue tooth the record to my phone.
Logging my food and weight on MFP.
I hope this helps someone.

Alwayscheerful · 10/01/2019 12:23

@Last2Know I would leave the banana until you kick start the weight loss although high in potassium also high in carbohydrates. You can reintroduce bananas once you kickstart the loss. Scrambled eggs d spinach is minimal carbs great choice.

loveisenough · 10/01/2019 12:28

I have just seen this thread and was about to recommend the
8 week blood sugar diet but @Limitisup beat me to it!

I lost almost two stone before Christmas (starting in October) and then relaxed a bit over the holiday and about to start again. I find it really works and is sustainable.
