I've just seen a photo of myself. I rarely allow myself to be photographed. I'm FAT!!!! I have to do something.

KateGrey · 29/12/2018 21:19

I’ve refused all photos. I can’t face seeing myself in them. Maybe I should do I can fully assess how bad it is.

danni0509 · 29/12/2018 21:45

@KateGrey get someone (other half etc) to take pic don't look at it, then when you have lost some take another pic and then you can compare,

I'm glad I took pics as when I didn't feel motivated I looked back at pics and it deffo keeps you going.

I took pics in knickers and bra and you can see your shape changing right before your eyes.

WhenCanISleepAgain · 29/12/2018 21:47

I feel the same about photos. There’s a thread on here about the difference weight loss makes and I think a big one for me would be feeling happier about getting my photo taken.

Sarah1055 · 29/12/2018 23:03

Hey just read about your dad! Sorry that sucks! I have 5st as well so we can be in this together!

Sarah1055 · 29/12/2018 23:06

Hey im totally in!

I have about 5st to lose. My ds is 4 months old so I have lost about 4 stone since his birth. ( I put on 5 and a half!) but I was big before I got pregnant!
I will need to go back and read through the thread but just wanted to say hi! 😁

AFridgeTooFar · 30/12/2018 08:21

I've started an online blog, for accountabillity purposes.

I'm dreading the "before" photos...but I need to get them done!

I've spent the last few days researching low carb vegetables with the highest amount of protein...I don't want all of my protein to come from nuts, as it's such a waste of calories!

My deficit will be 800 calories- which (theoretically) equals 1.6lb a week.

certainlymerry · 30/12/2018 08:54

Kate - it was a photo that made me lose 2 stones ten years ago. I literally couldn't believe I looked like that. It's amazing how we can kid ourselves that it's really not that bad.

FATEdestiny · 30/12/2018 10:15

I've spent the last few days researching low carb vegetables with the highest amount of protein

I'm not sure about protein in veg, but an easy way to remember about carbs is that the veg that grows below ground are the ones that have most carbs. Above ground veg is lower carb.

For protein, chicken and tuna is good. Or dairy (the harder the dairy, the more protein content as a general rule. So hard cheese < soft cheese < thick yoghurt < thin yoghurt < milk). Also the pulses have decent protein content.

Lulutheboss · 30/12/2018 10:22

FATE, I’ve been reading some of your post for inspiration over the past couple of days. Your dedication has been amazing.
What are your tips for staying motivated and not giving up, especially if you haven’t had a loss for a couple of weeks?
I tend to be a very slow loser so I give up easily! Sad

CarrotPuff · 30/12/2018 10:29

Went for a run this morning after a month long gap, so feeling very virtuous 😇 just need to stay away from the biscuits now!

TheHoundsofLove · 30/12/2018 10:33

I'm in too please! I did post on one of the other threads, but this one seems to be a bit busier...so I've copied and pasted some of my post over.
I started yesterday and am going old school by cutting out all rubbish and exercising more. I'm going to train for a half marathon (I completed C210k this year and have discovered that I really enjoy running unfortunately also enjoy cake, wine, chocolate, puddings....and did I say wine ) and do The Shred/lift weights to tone up!
I'm going to be 40 at the beginning of 2020 and am determined to feel at my best by then. So, here goes...I'm 5'3 and weighing in at 12st 2.
It has been great to read your contributions FATE - you must feel so proud of yourself. One of the things that I feel is going to be key to success is that I have come to terms with the fact that I can't eat in the same way / the same quantities and stay slim anymore. I certainly can't eat the same meals as my DH and DS every day. I wish I could, but I'm a small woman with underactive thyroid and I just can't. I need A LOT less food than I am used to eating. Depressing. But true.
I also hate seeing photos of myself, but have decided to use them to spur me on. I'm going to take a photo every Saturday morning and hope that seeing positive changes will encourage me to keep going....

Lulutheboss · 30/12/2018 10:40

Hound what you’ve said there is very true. I suspect I have thyroid issues but test results always come back normal.
I’m a bit shorter than you but a similar weight and will also be 40 in 2020. I desperately don’t want to be fat and 40!

SpikyHedgehogg · 30/12/2018 10:49

I'm another "40 in 2020".

So far I've been enjoying my "research" and am clear on what I'm doing in January (I'm starting tomorrow). Downside has been that I've been poorly so no gym or even much light exercise which I'm finding very frustrating.

makingithappen · 30/12/2018 11:12

I haven't read the whole thread yet but would love to join. I had put on 30lb since June 2016 when I last checked a few weeks ago - it's bound to be much more now.
I suffer from an autoimmune disease that I am convinced is affected by sugar so the plan is to kill two birds with one stone. I will be giving up sugar, including alcohol and probably complex carbs as they act like sugar in the body. Hopefully this will see me well with the added bonus of fat loss.

I will also be doing a circuits class twice a week to start.

Will we be having a weekly weigh in thread?

makingithappen · 30/12/2018 11:14

@Lulutheboss and @SpikyHedgehogg I'm also 40 in 2020. May for me. Am trying to convince DH to go to Florida that year so that will be my goal.

AFridgeTooFar · 30/12/2018 11:19

Would anyone mind if I posted my "before" photos on here?

I thought I'd be a sobbing mess...

Yes, they're disgusting...yes, I've got a hella way to go...but you know the weird thing?

You won't be able to see it in the photos, because of the way I positioned my phone...but I'm actually SMILING!!!

I'm in my underwear, and I'm SMILING!

I'm SO excited, and so damn positive!!!

TheHoundsofLove · 30/12/2018 11:51

Seems like several of us will be 40 in 2020! We can do this, Ladies! Smile
makingithappen Have you watched 'That Sugar Film'? It is a real eye-opener...
Fridge I certainly wouldn't mind.

AFridgeTooFar · 30/12/2018 11:57

I'm actually struggling to upload pictures!!!

Could anyone help? Can I send them to someone by PM, to upload for me?

AFridgeTooFar · 30/12/2018 11:59

I think I did it!

makingithappen · 30/12/2018 12:22

@TheHoundsofLove yes I have watched it. It planted the seeds but still wasn't enough to make me ditch (I am a complete sugar addict)! I have now ordered Allen Carrs Good Sugar, Bad Sugar. I gave up smoking with one of his books 13 years ago and have never looked back, I'm hoping this one will break my sugar addition too!

Well done @AFridgeTooFar you are way braver than me!

SpikyHedgehogg · 30/12/2018 12:25

makingithappen one of my goals for January is taming my reliance on sugar. I did it during the year and it made a big difference, now I would like to do it for good. I'm still going to eat moderate rice and potatoes for carbs on gym days as I find I need them for my weightlifting. No floury carbs for me as I don't think they do my tummy any good at all.

(I am going the other way with the scales, and won't be weighing in).

SpikyHedgehogg · 30/12/2018 12:27

I mean, I am overweight, but I'm focusing on having a more healthy relationship with food and my body. If weightloss was my priority I'd probably being doing all the weighing - calories, exercise, daily weight...

LittleDoritt · 30/12/2018 12:29

Well done Fridge! I'm not starting til Tues but will try and snap a picture. It will be horrific. Sad
I've had coffee and a Flake for breakfast so still firmly in holiday mode.

LittleDoritt · 30/12/2018 12:30

Also well up for a weekly weigh in.
