Anyone in?

Im doing dry jan which will help, better meal planning, and upping the water intake. No official "plan" in mind yet but will look to choosing one soon.

Im weighing in Jan1st, currently just shy of 14stone. I need to hit 9 1/2 to hit a healthy BMI.

I've done pretty well so far. A (pretty overripe) banana, couple of tbsp low sugar granola, & a big dollop of plain kefir for breakfast. A chicken & bacon salad for lunch, the bacon was really fatty but I ruthlessly cut all the fat off & asked for dressing on the side. Salad was so nice that I didn't even need the dressing. Having half a grilled chicken breast, rice, crunchy winter salad, & kimchi tonight. (Same a last night!)

I am ignoring the chocolate hobnobs that DH unhelpfully bought me when I had a migraine the other day. I just had a plum instead. It's not the same though...

PinkHeart5914 · 05/01/2019 18:48

Evening everyone 😃

Fatcat The baguette won’t ruin anything, just have your soup for dinner and get back to plan tomorrow.

AFridgeTooFar I love that username and Yes Dahl freezes very well, we always cook too much to freeze some for quick lunches in the week for me and dc when dh is at work.

DH Doesn’t work weekends so he watched the dc this morning and I done a 6 mile run and then once home I got on the exercise bike too. Food wise has been ok as well;
B- 2 slices Toast but only 1 with jam. Coffee
L- chicken & coleslaw roll, banana
D- dinner is going to be chicken & veg enchiladas with rocket & spinach on the side.
No snacks!
Coffee (no sugar) diet cola and water to drink

BeetlebumShesAGun · 05/01/2019 20:02

Don’t worry about the baguette Fatcat... it took me a while to realise that one off plan meal isn’t going to ruin everything, it’s after that one meal when you start thinking “oh fuck it, I’ve ruined it” and spiral out of control is when it all goes wrong!

I’ve struggled today, had a bit of an emotional day but stayed strong!

LittleDoritt · 05/01/2019 21:05

I'm absolutely in agreement with Beetle, it's the mental damage I need to worry about with off plan meals rather than the physical effects. I go downhill so quickly if I feel like I've "failed" in some way, and then all hell breaks loose dietwise. You'll be fine FatCat. Just think of it as one bad meal against 20 good ones this week! If you got 20 out of 21 in an exam you'd get a distinction Grin

fatcatshavemorefun · 05/01/2019 21:06

Thanks for the encouragement Certainly, Tulips, Pink and Beetlebum

Beetlebum that's exactly how I have felt in the past and just carried on ruining the rest of the day but I stayed on plan for the rest of today. Got another exercise class on Monday and will be back on track tomorrow.

Hopefully if we eat out again next weekend we will go somewhere with healthier options... I am worrying about weigh-in on Tuesday and feeling discouraged but I guess can only do my best for the next 2 days.

Have never had dahl, sounds like I should try it!

fatcatshavemorefun · 05/01/2019 21:10

Ah LittleDorrit that's a great way to look at it - am very competitive about exams (Blush) so thinking of it as 20/21 really helps put it in perspective!

Really glad I joined this group, hope everyone is finding it as helpful as I am!

AFridgeTooFar · 06/01/2019 07:07

Happy Sunday guys!

certainlymerry · 06/01/2019 07:31

Well, I went off piste a bit yesterday. I just ate too much I think . This morning i weighed myself and I seem to have PUT ON weight. How is that possible?
I would love the dhal recipe! I haven't made dhal in years and love it. Looked up some recipes on the internet, but a recommendation would be great.
Have a good day everyone.

AFridgeTooFar · 06/01/2019 07:41

certainly the food ITSELF may weigh a ton! As in, if you weigh it on kitchen scales. It could be a carb/salt overload...ANYTHING. Give it a day or two.

Elmashbu · 06/01/2019 07:51

I did a mid week weigh in today (I know I know not a great idea) and it says I've put on 1/2 lb. Feeling quite low after that Sad especially as I plotted my afternoon tea so stayed within my calories according to mfp.

Going to get focussed today and make some soups as I'm back at work tomorrow.

Hope others have had a better morning

TulipsInbloom1 · 06/01/2019 08:02

It's so frustrating when the scales don't reflect all the hard work. I'm twitching every time I pass my scales. MUST HOLD OFF TIL TUES.

My dhal was large onion diced, bit of ginger, softened in the pan. Add a mix of spices (turmeric, curry powder, chilli, salt and pep, cumin), add 400g red lentils, can of coconut milk and 500ml water. Bring to the boil and then reduce and simmer for 30 mins. I added cooked chicken once done.

TulipsInbloom1 · 06/01/2019 08:02

Oh and put it on a bed of spinach rather than rice.

certainlymerry · 06/01/2019 08:05

Thanks Tulip - I'll try that. I feel a bit thinner, so will soldier on regardless.

LittleDoritt · 06/01/2019 08:20

Morning all. My children are adamant that we are going
swimming today. Its freezing and I don't want to get out of my warm bed! I guess it's all exercise though.

Neoflex · 06/01/2019 08:50

I had two pieces of birthday cake yesterday and a glass of Prosecco but I had steamed vegetables for lunch and dinner so the day added up to 1592 calories. It was my daughters 1st birthday so I was definitely going to eat the cake. Could have just eaten one piece though.
The rest of the leftover cake is sitting in my fridge but I will take it to work on Monday so my colleagues get fat instead.

GreyandGrumpy48 · 06/01/2019 08:52

Morning all. Long day out yesterday and did have an ice cream but did los if walking so within by calories on MFP. Thanks LittleDorrit for the exam analogy that was really helpful because one bad meal does usually end up with me feeling like giving up the whole diet. And thanks for the Dhal recipe- it’s one of my favourite dishes.

StealthNinjaMum · 06/01/2019 09:19

certainlymerry day to day the scales do randomly go up and down, that's why some people say you shouldn't weigh yourself daily. Be patient and there will definitely be a downward trend.

I ate much rubbish yesterday. It started well, small salad for lunch, and then a lovely friend invited me over and I ate a slice of dominos pizza, lots of crisps and wine. I was still under 1000 calories but my biggest day of eating since Boxing Day. I weighed myself this morning and put on weight but I know it's temporary and I'll be down again soon.

Brilliantly my waist has dropped two inches almost overnight to 32 inches. It was 41 inches 6 years ago.

Gymntonic · 06/01/2019 09:33

Scales have been a bit up and down in last week as we've been visiting friends and travelling a bit. I'm going to focus on the Michael Mosely diet advice and set MFP to 1000 calories and lowish carbs. Lost a stone plus like this last year and kept it off. Have a stone and a half to lose by spring so need to push on.
Got a pb in local park run yesterday so feel motivated to push on with exercise. Going for a hill walk today I think - when kids are awake.

tryinganewname · 06/01/2019 09:34

Feeling holier than thou.. went for a run at 7.30 this morning. Was lovely, didn't see a single person or car and the countryside was looking beautiful. Started the C25K app, got up to week 8 before I was pregnant so hoping I can beat that this time.

HermioneWeasley · 06/01/2019 09:40

I’ve lost a pound! Down to 12:5. I’ve really really stuck to it so feel I’ve earned it (actually feel like I should have dropped a stone, but the maths don’t work like that!)

Fiontar649 · 06/01/2019 10:08

Morning!

I just woke up 😂 you lot are far too energetic

I am back at work tomorrow, so going to spend time today sorting out my lunches and meal planning my dinners.

No plans for today, might get out for a walk later.

SusanWalker · 06/01/2019 10:38

Didn't have a good day yesterday. Nothing terrible as such but I didn't eat a proper meal and picked all day. It doesn't help that I'm skint till tomorrow so I haven't been able to do a proper shop or anything and am trying to cobble things together. I'm ordering a proper shop to come tomorrow.

On a brighter note DS actually slept last night and is feeling well enough to go to rugby. Just praying he'll manage to get into school tomorrow. It would help me a lot to get back into a better routine.

TulipsInbloom1 · 06/01/2019 11:04

I started my period on Friday so hoping it's over and done with by Tuesday morning for weigh in. Am I right in thinking it can add a couple of lbs?

OP posts:
StealthNinjaMum · 06/01/2019 11:24

Yup tulips sadly periods can add an extra couple of pounds, hopefully there'll be no effect by weigh in day.

FATEdestiny · 06/01/2019 11:30

The good thing about periods and weight loss is that the week after your period is great for rapid weight loss. So there are benefits as well as drawbacks.

It's well documented that women will drop fat much more readily in the week after menstruation and the week after ovulation.
