certainly personally, I'm just planning an old school approach- a calorie deficit, and exercise.

Don't throw away today yet. How many calories do you have left? We may be able to inspire you!

Spikecity · 01/01/2019 10:48

Looking to join please too. Currently 18 stone 12lbs and in desperate need to lose weight. Had lost 1 stone through slimming club but just don't like its approach.

Hoping through healthy eating and calorie counting to strike a balance.

Find myself eating for no reason. Constantly tired. Always forget to eat then am starving and eat a mountain. Very frustrated and unhappy.

Spikecity · 01/01/2019 10:49

@newfitme sent you a follow request there

wizzler · 01/01/2019 11:01

Today's the day . I am having a no chocolate January. I dont drink much alcohol at all so no point in giving that up.
My NSG are :-
To tuck a shirt in
To not wear black trousers
To have a photo taken that I like

Off to do a list of milestones !

certainlymerry · 01/01/2019 11:02

Fridge - I think that is going to be my approach too. Diet clubs have never worked for me in the past, I have done it myself. I have about 500 calories left! I am thinking the no breakfast idea is a good one. I hardly ever go without breakfast, but I wonder if I really need it. Maybe fruit and yoghurt would be the way to go if I have to have breakfast at all.
My main downfall is just not knowing what to eat. In the past I have stuck to a few recipes that I use over and over again. I prefer to eat veggie if possible but cook meat for the rest of the family which I don't enjoy much. I think that's a major part of the problem - I don't enjoy what I eat at home so if I go out for lunch etc I overeat.
I'm thinking an omelette for lunch (heart sinks at thought). If I 'm not eating things I enjoy it doesn't work for me.

Alongwaytogo · 01/01/2019 11:04

Had a moment of bravery and took photos. I think I've been in denial for along time! Hopefully they will spur me on!

BeetlebumShesAGun · 01/01/2019 11:09

We didn’t succeed in eating everything in the house and I drank a little too much last night, so I am starting tomorrow! First day back at work tomorrow so we are treating this as the last day of the Christmas break.

I’m going for my first run today though, and I will take my “before” photos and post my starting weight on here!

AandB201517 · 01/01/2019 11:15

fridge I’m thumbs up for a fab group

certainly I’d do the fruit breakfast if I were you. If you’re used to eating breakfast you’d only end up hungry and miserable if you go without.

along oh you’re brave. Pictures are a no go for me for a while Grin

I’m thinking of probably doing a 12-8 eating window, eating healthy and fingers crossed stick to it. May rejoin the OMAD fab group.

I’m also stuck between Jillian Michaels, davina or Jessica Smith DVD’s. I have done the 30 day shred in the past (lost dvd though) and remember it to be quite good.

AFridgeTooFar · 01/01/2019 11:15

certainly why don't you have the fruit and yoghurt today for lunch, instead?

You could have a MASSIVE salad for way under 500 calories. Or have the (two egg?) Omelette, and a smaller; but still big, salad?

The main issue is the splitting the allowance into two meals, I guess. But think about how happy you'll be if you're able to turn a (in your opinion- not mine ❤) shit start of the first day, into a not so bad finish?

Want us to throw some ideas at you for meals within your allowance? So you can be a little more prepared tomorrow?

fatcatshavemorefun · 01/01/2019 11:20

Gratifyingly I managed to lose 1kg over Xmas (didn’t indulge in ANY Xmas chocs though, sob) so that’s one closer to goal... just 10kg to go! Am currently 10kg lighter than this time last year but weight loss needs to accelerate a bit to get closer to goal by the wedding Blush
Will be returning to the gym on Wednesday, got a couple of runs in over Xmas but did slack quite a bit.
I don’t want to work out what the kilos are in real money (I don’t own scales - I use the ones at the gym that are only metric) as thinking in stone seems to demotivate me and make me feel like it’s impossible for some reason Confused

Elmashbu · 01/01/2019 11:24

I would like to join this. I am currently 14st 1 and would like to lose at least a stone by end of March.

I have done both ww and SW and have decided to just try to eat healthy and low fat and increase my exercise levels and water intake. Couch to 5k is an option.

I just feel a bit lost about how to do it all.

SusanWalker · 01/01/2019 11:29

certainlymerry what kinda of things do you eat if you go out for lunch? Maybe we can come up with some ways that you could cook similar at home, but healthier?

I have had my porridge this morning. I love breakfast and won't be giving it up!

AandB201517 · 01/01/2019 11:30

Gratifyingly I managed to lose 1kg over Xmas well done!

MutantDisco · 01/01/2019 11:30

I've got 2 stone to lose (I think 8 and a half stone is my ideal weight).

I've been doing Paul McKenna since Boxing Day, which I think will work for me although I'm not meant to weigh myself.

I've had a couple of short runs this week, was 2 minutes quicker today on a slightly longer run!! Hoping to build up to 5k 3 times a week, I just need to make the time to do it.

AFridgeTooFar · 01/01/2019 11:31

Elma calorie counting may be the simplest way. MFP can do all of that for you.

I'm unfit as fuck. But I managed 25 stair-runs this morning, by doing them in the soap breaks (I caught up on ITV2). I'm a big TV watcher- I crochet to order, so technically, I earn money sitting on my butt and watching crap 🤣(also WOH two days a week). I Want to get into the habit of shifting my butt in every ad break!

If there's a pile of laundry to take upstairs, I'll split it into four lots, and take one lot up at a time.

Small things, I guess...but they'll add up!

AwdBovril · 01/01/2019 11:39

I do like salad with just some simple cooked meat or fish, I'm lucky that I do genuinely like salad... but DH is a bit of a feeder. I don't think he means to be, but whenever I'm feeling ill (quite often, have chronic health condition) he suggests takeaway and/or brings me biscuits, crisps etc. Unhelpful. Also, he's awful about food, he doesn't like eating "family meals", (because I try to cook lower fat, smaller carb portions & more vegetables) so usually cooks his own (high carb, high fat, high calorie, low fibre, almost no vegetables). His idea of healthy eating is not frying everything, & to have vegetables on the plate.

AFridgeTooFar · 01/01/2019 11:43

Oh...and as a serial dieter (or a Cereal one😃) I know that the initial "let's do this" motivation may not last...or it may dip. I may never feel as excited as I do during this first week.

So I've written a list of things which may become "a chore" during the next few weeks. For example, meal planning, calorie balancing. And I'm doing as much NOW, while I'm in this motivational stage, to try to prep for it. I'm batchcooking meals for the freezer. I'm familiarizing myself with portion sizes. Then, if I have a day when I can't be assed, I'll have no excuse not to screw up! I'm a lazy fucker (at least I own my shit!) And I know it'll be easier to eat a multi pack of crisps than to stand there cooking a meal! Shoving an already positioned up and calorie counted meal into the microwave, however...that'll be doable!

If I'm out and about, and I haven't prepped anything, I'll have a go to list of things I can actually have. Eating fruit for lunch, or a salad bowl from Subway, isn't ideal...but to me, it'll be better than throwing away days of hard work.

In short, I'll be focusing on my "danger zones" and trying to counteract them in advance.

Selfishjeans · 01/01/2019 11:46

My indulgences last night have given me a lovely 2lb gain, how does that work!?!! Resetting my start weight to 11b 7

AFridgeTooFar · 01/01/2019 11:51

selfish to gain 2lb, you'd have to have eaten 7000 calories on top of your TDEE. So it's not 2lb of fat. ❤

Did you eat a lot of salty food? It may be water retention.

Do you need a poo?

Selfishjeans · 01/01/2019 12:10

I had a huge carby dinner last night Fridge so it’s that. I love how it just heads straight on to my already massive belly, that’s usually the first place I lose it from though so fingers crossed.
I’ve taken some day 1 photos, looking at them should be enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.

AFridgeTooFar · 01/01/2019 12:33

Selfish perfect time to take BPs...if you're bloated as fuck in them, you'll be able to see a bigger difference when you next take some!

torthecatlady · 01/01/2019 12:37

Tagging along for the ride. Just weighed and I'm 16 stone 10. So out on 3 lbs over Christmas. Hoping to get to 16 stone by the end of January.
First big target is 13 stone.
Dh, best friend and me have a WhatsApp group to hold ourselves accountable and post pictures of our food and progress.

Elmashbu · 01/01/2019 12:37

Thanks afridgetoofar - I have just downloaded mfp and logged my planned food and it was eye-opening.

I'm aiming to lose about 1lb a week. I feel like I have done every diet known to man. I haven't been too brilliant this Christmas mind and I think seeing the 14 gave me quite a kick (tho tbh I said that about the 12 in 2014 and the 13 in 2017)
