Getting slim over the summer failed so how about less fat before Christmas?

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/09/2018 10:25

I had great intentions at the beginning of the summer but the barbecues and the wine and the ice cream and the generally being out of routine ruined all that.

Well technically me being a greedy shite ruined it !!

So my next goal is Christmas.

I need to lose 3 stone and I am going to be realistic for a change and look at a stone and a half by then.

Anyone care to join me ?

And if you could hang around and give me a kick every now and then that would be great too !

Just back from weigh in.. lost 2.5 pounds 🤗

TheVeryHungryDieter · 21/09/2018 10:21

Well done everyone!

I went out last night with a friend. Didn't eat too badly and scales was kind to me this morning (probably dehydration from the wine tbh!) but got home very late and found DH had not done anything for the kids today - so I stayed up extra late getting out three outfits for DS (forest school, jeans for genes and after school sport is way too much for one day imo!) as well as swimming kit and clean uniform for 3yo DD.

Am tired today. I have a gym class I usually love in 20 minutes and I have taken the executive decision not to go because I'm tired and moreover my knee hurts too much and I'm starting to worry I've done it some real damage. So rest and ice pack for me. Can't believe how much I feel gutted at missing my only chance to go today though. I am wearing my sports kit and had extra breakfast and everything. Will just have to compensate by eating more salad.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 21/09/2018 10:23

@Howlongtillbedtime at least if you are mad busy at work you won't have time to think about food! From a weight loss perspective I quite like weeks where it gets later and later before I remember I've not had lunch!

Oh and Cherry, no I skipped the snacks. Went too late and the shops were shut on the way back!

Howlongtillbedtime · 21/09/2018 11:35

Well done hendricksy that's brilliant!

hendricksy · 21/09/2018 14:24

@Howlongtillbedtime .. thank you ! I have a boozy goody evening tomorrow to navigate but I think I should be ok 🙏🏻🙏🏻... I'm a vegetarian which makes not overeating a bit easier as most things have meat in . Fingers crossed I can lose at least a little bit next week as I'm in the cusp of another stone which always Spurs you along !!!

HappyPumpkin81 · 21/09/2018 16:43

Well done Hendricks, fingers crossed you make your one stone loss next week.

The very hungry dieter - I think skipping your class and icing your knee is the sensible thing to do. Weight loss is 80% what you eat and only 20% due to exercise so missing one class shouldn't make too much of a difference.

I have been terrible this week, I have fallen at every hurdle and haven't turned down a single biscuit or slice of cake 🙁 I've made so many changes to my diet (not eating sweets and having fizzy drinks daily, giving up drinking squash, I don't have alcohol or caffeine) in the last couple of years that I'm struggling to think how I can change my diet to loose weight without also sucking all the joy out of eating. In the past I've used weight loss shakes to get a boost at the start of a diet but I don't want to do that while I am breastfeeding. I'm considering joining a slimming group for a bit of support but the small friendly one I use to go to got taken over by a new leader who quadrupled it in size and started heavily flogging the companies products. I expect she won employee of the year but I stopped going as it wasn't welcoming anymore!

Any suggestions to get me motivated are welcome 🙂

WickedGoodDoge · 21/09/2018 18:05

Well done hendricksy!

HappyPumpkin you could give yourself a day a week to have a cake/fizzy drink etc. I take Saturdays off and eat whatever I like. I’m sure I don’t lose weight as quickly as I could, but I do lose steadily and feel like I have something to look forward to. To be honest, I usually don’t end up eating too much extra because I’m used to the discipline the rest of the week and even though I really look forward to Saturdays, when they come, I never want as much I as think I do. I weigh first thing on a Saturday morning.

I’m currently sitting at DD’s rock climbing, studiously avoiding the cafe with its baked goods. I’d gotten into a bit of a habit of having a cake while I waited and I don’t know why because they are not good cakes! Very dry.

Tomorrow is DH’s birthday which will involve lasagne and cake so it’s probably a good thing I take Saturdays off. A bit annoyed though as it’s going to be windy again and I think too windy for my 50km cycle so will have to just do a 30km one instead (did the 30km yesterday in the wind and it was a real struggle. Ugh).

hendricksy · 21/09/2018 18:49

@HappyPumpkin81 thank you although I meant I'm 2 pounds away from the next stone down so I've lost 7 pounds I think and 2 more will take me to 10.13 if that makes sense ?

HappyPumpkin81 · 21/09/2018 19:47

I think that's a really good idea poster WickedGoodDoge. I might chose a different day off each week depending on what I have planned.

I know what you mean about the cakes. I met a friend for coffee today and had a cake because she was having one. She wouldn't have been bothered if I didn't have one and once I'd eaten it it wasn't even worth it.

That makes perfect sense Hendricksy. Getting into the next stone down would be a morale booster for me too :)

WickedGoodDoge · 21/09/2018 20:46

Yeah, I’m trying to only eat things I really like now so as to not waste calories. I know it sounds a bit nonsensical but if treats really are treats now and not daily indulgences I want to really enjoy them and not waste calories on dry cake that isn’t even that nice!

Cherrysherbet · 21/09/2018 23:40

Just got back from my night out with friends, and the curry was yummy! The wine even more so! Not feeling that guilty at the moment, but I think I will in the morning. Hey ho, that's life, and you gotta have fun now and again, right?!!! I will get back on track tomorrow 😁 On a positive note, the dress I wore was much more comfy that the last time i pulled it out of my wardrobe, so I am really pleased with that! Mini goals! Have a good Saturday all.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 22/09/2018 10:12

Well done Cherry!!

I had a cheat meal yesterday with some mums over. Sausage rolls and quiche and cheese and ice cream and cake. But I ate so much at lunch I wasn't hungry later. Even though I was well over my calories for the day (and skipped the gym) I was down slightly this morning (I'm going to attribute it to dehydration from the wine...)

I've lost 7kgs as of this morning. Over 15lbs.

That's 28 blocks of butter.

Howlongtillbedtime · 23/09/2018 08:10

Good morning everyone.

I really need a kick. I have let everything slide this week and have probably put weight on which was not the idea!!

I have had three social things this week and well and truly pressed the 'fuck it button.

We are also seeing friends today so I am looking at damage limitation.

I am going shopping tomorrow so will do some meal planning later.

Will kicks gratefully received!!'

Howlongtillbedtime · 23/09/2018 08:14

Normally this is the point where I would give up and I really don't want to .

I wi!l go to the gym today which is the first time since last Sunday Blush

OP posts:
WickedGoodDoge · 23/09/2018 08:44

OK Howlong go to the gym today, but tomorrow is Monday and you are going to start afresh tomorrow. Tonight you will meal plan for the week and you are going to focus on food that you really like, but small portions and lots of salad/veg added in to bulk out your meals. Next week you are going to focus one day at a time until you get through the week and get back into the habit.

I’m down 1.5lbs this week so am now 9s 13lbs. I’m very happy to see a 9 again! I probably could have done my long cycle yesterday as the wind wasn’t quite as bad as expected but didn’t get up early enough so am going to go to the gym to do circuits today and my long cycle tomorrow.

Howlongtillbedtime · 23/09/2018 09:55

Thank You wicked

I am meal planning now and then I am off to the gym. I am not going to give up !!

Anyone have any lunch or dinner suggestions ? I am in the habit of eating similar things too much and I am getting bored.

OP posts:
TheVeryHungryDieter · 23/09/2018 13:18

Last night I had some wine and rather tipsily decided I would make Anzac biscuits because I had nothing sweet in the house.

I've eaten three since breakfast Blush

But I'm making this for Sunday dinner www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4382/veggie-shepherds-pie-with-sweet-potato-mash and afterwards I'm going to the gym later tonight, so I won't have a second big meal today.

I haven't been able to run for a while but I did a spin class last night and I sweated like a pig, and my bum hurts today (stupid tiny rock hard saddle) so I feel more virtuous today!

Cherrysherbet · 23/09/2018 21:27

Oooh hungry that recipe looks lush. Was it good? Not bad on calories, and just the thing for a chilly Autumn day. I'm going to try it, thanks for sharing.

howlong how is it going today? It's so tough when you have social get togethers. They always involve food, and it's half the fun!! So hard to avoid. You have been doing so well. Variety is definitely the key to success, I think. It's so easy to slip into a routine of eating the same things, but it gets boring. I went out on Friday night, and now there is talk of going out with the family for a curry his Friday. All very nice, but not great for my diet!! It's hard to get into the zone when things keep coming up, but that's life and we have to work around it, I guess.
Let us know how you're getting on.

RubySlippers77 · 24/09/2018 00:17

How did your shepherds pie turn out hungry? I've made this one before (in a veggie version): twochubbycubs.com/2018/01/22/shepherds-pie/

(Warning: the Cubs website is a bit saucy, for anyone who hasn't seen it before!!)

I went to the GP yesterday and she was so nice, I almost cried. She's sending me for a load of blood tests (4 tubes' worth!) and a womb scan, although no doubt there'll be a massive wait for that. She explained that it was understandable I've been so tired but hopefully they can find out what's wrong and help improve things. There is time yet for me to be less fat in 2018 Smile

I made a crumble today and an apple compote to go with my porridge tomorrow. Yes, we have lots of apples to use up! DP has also been told that he needs to lose weight, hopefully we'll be able to work it out together. Although he's been an absolute arse today so who knows Hmm

Howlongtillbedtime · 24/09/2018 07:41

Good morning everyone.

I braved the scales after a very dodgy week and I have lost half a pound. It is rubbish but I honestly thought I would have put on this week.

Back on track now . done
Menu plan is done
Shopping will be done later.
Gym later.

I am so pleased I posted yesterday and didnt just give in and drink beer and eat pizza which I probably would have done in the past.

Those shepherds pies look yummy. Maybe next week's meal plan.

TheVeryHungryDieter · 24/09/2018 07:52

@Howlongtillbedtime well done! Good work getting back on track!

Ruby I really do hope your bloods show something and you start feeling better sooner rather than later. X

I'll admit now to being one of those people who weigh myself every day, but while I'm up slightly over the weekend I'm still down about a pound over the week.

Everyone, the pie was fab. The red wine gravy was so so good. I've made it before and I remember it was a bit of a faff to do, but I've recently learned that you can get bags of frozen sweet potato mash in cubes. Put into a bowl and microwave what you need and fork over the top. Peeling sweet potatoes is always one of the more fiddly hits for me, so, WOW!

And even better, although it says "serves 4" I found 1/6th was plenty for me. Very filling!

HappyPumpkin81 · 24/09/2018 14:17

Hello All,

I have decided not to weigh this week as I am sure I have either put on or stayed the same and I don't want to feel down about it. Don't give up Howlongtillbedtime I had a terrible week too and didn't log a single meal on my fitness pal last week. I am going to use WickedGoodDoge's suggestion of one treat day a week, so far so good as I didn't nip in to Costa for a hot chocolate while the baby slept.

Theveryhungrydieter that pie sounds delicious. I made stew yesterday and nearly killed myself cutting up the swede. I need to see if they sell pre cut swede.

Rubyslippers I hope you feel better soon.

Fingers crossed everyone for a healthy eating week :)

HappyPumpkin81 · 25/09/2018 20:49

Well I've managed to log my calories today and yesterday. Today has been a bit wobbly as I have felt too unwell to go out. On the plus side I haven't been tempted by the sweets in the shop, on the downside the food in my cupboards and freezer aren't the healthiest. (Pizza for tea!)

How are you getting on with your meal plan @Howlongtillbedtime?

I hope everyone is staying motivated as Christmas is creeping nearer!

TheVeryHungryDieter · 25/09/2018 22:28

I'm finding motivation difficult. I'm hungry and very grumpy this week and eating all around me and all I want is sweets. Thought I was falling off the wagon for good. Got even more grumpy.

I realised on Sunday when I was hungry, horny and grumpy all at the same time that I was probably just premenstrual. Hormones always tend to send me straight to the biscuit cupboard... but at least I know if I stick at it I'll be ok again in a couple of days.

Took a break tonight to spend time with DH but I've been to three spin classes in three nights at the gym, so I feel I have earned the right to take a break! I haven't taken a spin class in ten years and omg my poor bum is hurting from the hard narrow saddle. I am sitting very gingerly on my hard kitchen chairs.

Hope everyone is doing ok - hump day tomorrow, the week is halfway through and we are still hanging on grimly....

Howlongtillbedtime · 26/09/2018 07:07

Good morning everyone.

Meal planning is ok thanks pumpkin still looking for more inspiration however is you have any ideas ? Trying to eat less meat and more veggies.

I need to stop bloody snacking. This week has been so hard. I have not logged in mfp for a couple of days but today I am back on it today.

I knew this wouldn't be easy . I need to stop making excuses and just get on with it.
So today will be

B Boiled egg and a slice of toast
L. Soup
D Jacket pot with the rest of my Iranian veg stew that I made last night.

Snacks will be one packet of sunbites
No booze !!!
I will go to the gym after work!!

One day at a time starting (again) today.

Good luck to everyone for a good day
