We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Sorry to hear that about your son Post - when I was trying to feed up seriously underweight DH (he was very ill at the time so had low appetite too) it was all about adding butter, cream or prescribed supplements such as multi-joule (a taste free powder) to our food. So I'd cook a pasta sauce, then add cream etc just to his plate - taking great care not to get the plates swapped over! You can make high calorie jelly with the supplement too, which was good for getting in high calories without it feeling heavy. If he will eat eggs, you can get a lot of cream and butter into those Smile I would steer clear of focusing on protein too much, as those supplements aren't tested for safety in use in children, and in extreme cases could put too much strain on developing kidneys. You can hide ice cream in a fruit smoothie so you can squeeze a load of calories into something like that though!

Thank you all so much, feel very bad putting this on a weight loss thread but really appreciate the help! He’s nearly 15 and fussy, but not as fussy as he was and I can work with what he will eat now.

Have been to shop and come back armed with butter, cream and ground almonds then sat down to read this and feel i’m On right track! NHS say 3 meals plus 3 snacks. I don’t think he eats much at school but does eat some unlike one of his mates. I’m going to add extra oil Olive oil to his portions as i’m Fairly economical on that front. He had more for breakfast today plus have malt loaf along with banana and full fat Greek yogurt ready for after school. Also we eat tea early so will make sure he has a snack later.

Spoke to builder and he’s going to form the hall properly by end of tomorrow hopefully and block off entrance to extension plus we’ll heat hall a bit. His bedroom is downstairs right next to it all so he gets the worst of it and with everything going on I took my eye off the ball. Should have realised I hadn’t seen him with his head in the fridge as usual bless him. He’s at that doesn’t say a lot phase and doesn’t like to bother people poor lad. Right, am done with the talk of calorific food, sorry!

Don’t know about anyone else but I have that sense of new start with the schools gone back which is helpful and it made me go and empty my wardrobe.

honeysucklejasmine · 06/09/2018 14:13

That'll be a challenge for you post. But yes, lots of hearty stews, buttery mash etc.

post curries? You can chuck cream/ ground almonds in at the end. Nuts as sacks - healthy and calorific.
Veg needs butter.
Macaroni cheese made with condensed milk.
Chicken thighs - you can take the skin off (and give it to him!) Remember this well from my mother being on chemo.
Anjum Annands chicken korma is delicious, and if you're generous with the cream and nuts, over a thousand calories a portion.

Ok so I looked at the bathroom and noted the bath mat that is temporarily on the floor and had a thought. Weighed myself on both and was a stone lighter on the mat. Took scales downstairs and asked DS if he weighed on the mat and he couldn’t remember so jumped in and is 5lbs heavier than yesterday which puts him back into the green on the nhs bmi chart for children.

Very blood relieved Grin He’s still very light for his height and on the 7th percentile whereas previously he was on something like the 18th as I think he has grown but not put on. I think he should gradually put on a bit more to get to where he was before but my major panic is over and I’m now armed with some excellent ideas so thank you all very much for those plus all the support All that remains is for DH anf I to keep off the apple crumble as it’s over 600 cals a portion !

Stripeybum · 06/09/2018 22:12

Sorry everyone for not being around. Just started a new teaching job and it's been manic.

BUT it gave me a huge NSV that I'm coming on quickly to tell you about. I left a pair of work trousers out and suddenly panicked as I hadn't tried them on and they may not fit WELL they didn't but it was because they were too big!! 😁😁😁

KOKO everyone. Will be back properly on the weekend when I get a bit of my life back

Lots of love ❤️❤️❤️

FATEdestiny · 06/09/2018 22:33

Yey for too big clothes!

I don't envy a new teaching post. I've been out of the classroom 10 years now, not sure if I'll go back to teaching. Are you primary or secondary? I am/was secondary chemistry.

honeysucklejasmine · 06/09/2018 22:34

Good news Post! Sounds like a few extra calories won't harm him anyway.

Well done Stripey! I'm a teacher too though not working at the moment because of baby DS. I'm a chemist. What are you?

OP posts:
honeysucklejasmine · 06/09/2018 22:35

High five, Fate!

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 06/09/2018 22:36

Wow, there's a coincidence. Shortage subject (especially female chemists) and there are two on here! Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 06/09/2018 22:43

I hope it stays a shortage subject because I'll need a job in a few years! Don't particularly want to go back to it but term time hours...

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 06/09/2018 22:49

I feel exactly the same. I don't really want to go back, but I know if I ever need to it shouldn't be difficult to find a chemistry post.

The local comp my children go to was advertising a part time chemist post last year. I was tempted. Then I remembered the value of the "life" part of the work/life balance. I get my educational fix as a parent governor at said secondary and community governor of a local primary. That's plenty enough for me Grin

strawberrypig · 06/09/2018 22:51

That's weird, I have a chemistry degree and I am thinking about doing a PGCE next September.

Stripeybum · 06/09/2018 22:52

Hi fellow teachers 😍

I'm maths - came to it late as a career changer so currently an NQT which I love but boy it's tough. Luckily I work in a wonderful school (secondary) so I'm very lucky!

Now, must sleep as it's been such a looooong week 😴😴😴

FATEdestiny · 06/09/2018 22:59

don't do it strawberrypig Haha, sorry. Don't listen to the battle hardened teacher I became!

I love teaching, it's the best possible profession I can think of. Personally, I don't find it compatible with being a parent to young children (especially when you have a troupe of four like me). But when my children are all older and need me less, then I will have the time and energy to consider going back to to the job I love.

Another shortage subject for you Stripeybum. NOT year is tough, tough tough. But worth it. Great you have such a fantastic school.

I wonder what it says of STEM teacher's eating habits, given the high proportion on a thread for women with 100lb plus to lose?!

FATEdestiny · 06/09/2018 23:00

NQT*

honeysucklejasmine · 07/09/2018 06:01

What do you do now, fate? I'd rather do something else on a term time only contract but those jobs are like hen's teeth. At the moment my thought is a part time post so I can do all my work on my days "off". So, you know, work 5 days, only get paid for 3. 🙄

OP posts:
PostNotInHaste · 07/09/2018 06:48

Thank you all so much for your support yesterday really appreciated it. What a coincidence with all you STEM teachers. DS is a potential chemist or mathematician and his school is shit for chemistry so if it all goes pear shaped later this year maybe I could recruit one of you to be his Skype tutor.?! Weird how you get clusters of professions , I think there are several of us who have worked in research on here.

DD is 19 so only just through secondary and the changes I have seen are utterly ridiculous, I take my hats off to you all and agree that teaching not compatible with small children. There aren’t any comp sci teachers lurking as well are there?! It’s been scrapped for GCSE but we’re going to have a go at DS through it ourselves as DH an IT person but could do with some support. Have asked school for help but am not holding my breath.

Real feel of Autumn in the air this morning (that’s because there isn’t much between us and the elements at the bottom of my bedroom, if I push a bit of felt I could climb out Grin and it’s making me think of soup so a bit of cooking on the menu later I think.

moonlight1705 · 07/09/2018 07:14

I know where to come if I ever need help with a chemistry problem Smile

DH is a teacher but of history and politics....it will be interesting to see how he copes with having the baby and work. He will also be the first to request shared parental leave which is mad given its 2018!

Post glad your son is on the green, although we all talk about losing weight for obvious reasons here then being underweight can be just as much an issue.

Getoffthetableplease · 07/09/2018 07:33

So today I've weighed a morning early as we're away for the weekend, 3.7lbs down so I am officially 3% in to my epic journey Grin.

Think that makes the group total 1227.45lbs. Apologies if we're not doing the running group total anymore, I just could not resist!

Getoffthetableplease · 07/09/2018 07:49

P. S. also feeding up a child Post, a child that needs extra kcal along with a toddler that constantly grazes has sure been a test this week! Glad your son is in the green Smile. Here with you in solidarity prepping a load of stuff I really can't have!x

honeysucklejasmine · 07/09/2018 07:49

Well done Getoff! That's a fab effort!

Post soup! Oh I am looking forward to soup season. I actually ordered a wonky veg box from Morrisons this week so I could start with soup for the season. So excited. I do need to go through my tupperware though - last year I used zip lock bags to portion and freeze but it was a real waste of plastic. I've a tonne of tupperware I could use instead.

Fate I'm making houmous tomorrow, I'm so excited. DH's mum bizarrely bought him some sweet paprika so I think I will use that to flavour it. Yum. (Can't make it today as still have some supermarket stuff left.)

Yessss, bring in autumn with its luscious soups and piles of high protein low fat houmous! Yum.

Getoffthetableplease · 07/09/2018 07:55

Oh honey I love sweet smoky paprika on so many things (wedges, soups, pasta, chicken, prawns, salads etc) ! Been looking for some all week and can only find the hot stuff - jealous! I used one of those old style dried broth mix packs the other day for soup (split peas, lentils, pearl barley etc) and it was lovely, made a nice change to eat a chunky soup, I like to blend all my veg ones but then always want extra carbs along with it. Didn't feel the need with that stuff, plus only about 50p for a bag that will last for many, many pots!
