We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

I'm going to aim first for 11 stone 7 or 161 lbs - just normal fat then see how things are.

Numberofthemouse · 04/09/2018 20:55

fatty don't be embarrassed. Despite all the crap you'll read on the weight threads on mumsnet, obesity is multifactoral, with huge influences from genetics, and multiple bio/psych/social influences.
For many it's a chronic disease characterised by insulin resistance and hormone dysregulation. And should be treated as such.

climbs down off soapbox

alwaysontimeneverlate · 04/09/2018 21:05

Wow these stories are inspiring. I've been the GP today to have all bloods checked for things like cholesterol, diabetes etc.

I'm using calorie counting and feel very motivated at the moment but not sure how long that will last, although seeing the results should keep me going.

I can't wait to see a drop in dress size, I'm wearing a 20 too or 22 on bottom. I've seen a dress I want for Xmas that only goes to an 18 so fingers crossed I can do it.

Getoffthetableplease · 04/09/2018 21:14

Ah fatty we're all here for the same reason! I've set myself an end of year target to start with. Made me chuckle you describe your first target of 11 and a half as normal fat, but I felt phenomenal at that weight, stroll in any shop and pick up any size 12, happy to have photos taken at any angle, it was amazing, I cannot wait to get there again. Different weights definitely look seriously different on different people don't they. A good friend of mine is also doing her best to shift weight with me right now, I honestly thought we were very similar in pounds but it turns out she's actually nearly 5 stone lighter than me - thank goodness I didn't say anything Blush

honeysucklejasmine · 04/09/2018 21:43

fate roughly, your breakfast is 200 and your lunch is under 300 - the chickpeas (120g drained) is about 150, plus anything like tuna, plus veg. Would be very interested in your houmous recipe. I love the stuff, have it every day, buy it ready made. Are you not bothering with tahini etc then? I tend to use houmous as a salad dressing as I can't have many others (low calorie plus allergy friendly is hard!)

I also had a BMI of 43.7 when I started. It's 32.7 now.

So, I've done it today. Kept my food within my 1550 calories and not used my calories from exercise. I have 329 remaining. Just watching bake off then will go to bed and avoid the kitchen!

Welcome always. I agree with Post - KOKO is the best advice you'll get.

If any new people are reading all this exercise chat in terror ( I know I would have been) I can reassure you that I lost 60lbs before I started even thinking about exercise. And it's so much easier now the 60lbs are gone! (I've lost 67.5lbs so far)

Getoff the lbs as a %! Genius! My first target is 102lbs so pretty much is lb = %. Love it.

Wardrobe clear out! Generally in good nick but now too big.

L-R: trousers, size 20. Matalan straight leg.
Vests, size 18. Matalan "long line" (work great as maternity vests too), the navy one in Sainsbury's TU.
T-shirts, size 18. Various, mostly Matalan, one M&S.

Free for postage (approx £2.90), just let me know on thread and PM me an address to send them to. I've been on MN since 2015, I'm not a creep, I promise.

I also have two nursing bras, 38DD, which I am getting rid of too, if they are appropriate, moonlight

Thanks everyone - it's her to hear how successful you've been. I'd love to run one day but will have to shift some poundage first. Did 20 minutes on the exercise bike today, really tough! Throughout my life I have been everything from a size 10 to a 26. I'll be 50 in March and I want to be in control of how and why I eat finally. I had a hypnotherapy tape done to address all the panic and bs surrounding food. I really feel it's working, I'm trying to put the control inside rather than outside myself if that makes sense.

strawberrypig · 05/09/2018 06:53

Moonlight, how exciting a bump! I remember desperately wanting my bump to show with my first.

What a lovely idea Honeysuckle. I really should look to see what I have too.

Welcome to all the newbies, we are really getting busy now. Alwaysontime, I am 5' 8" and started at 257lbs (BMI 39.1) and am now 15 weeks in and 225lbs (BMI 34.1) i am not sure comparisons are that useful though as there are a million differences on how everyone loses weight and how their body changes. I am going slowly and including lots of cheat days as I want this to be sustainable for the rest of my life, it will probably take me a good six months longer to get to target but hopefully I will not feel I have finished at that point but just keep eating in a mindful manner.

PostNotInHaste · 05/09/2018 06:57

Boomboom (I’m not calling you fatty!) I used to weigh a bit more that’s that and it’s a figure that will soon be in the distance. Only DH knew and I lied to people about how much I had lost for ages, I wouldn’t have posted my weight on here until fairly recently, despite it being anonymous. You were born about 6 months before me and like you I have been lots of different weights, my range has been 8 to 24 so very similar. You’re totally making sense about the control issue.

On the subject of finding your height, I have lost an inch, possibly slightly more and I would really like it back so if the fucker who nicked it would like to replace it that would be great Grin

PostNotInHaste · 05/09/2018 07:22

And agree with Honeysuckle, don’t be put off by the exercise thing, most of us started or stepped it up after losing a chunk of weight first and please don’t feel you have to say your weight either.

moonlight1705 · 05/09/2018 07:49

Honey Thanks for the offer unfortunately I started out as a 38H and goodness knows what I am now Smile
Love your clear out though and may have to do the same next year. I might be tempted to get those vests off you (sadly my t-shirt draw is fit to burst so don't have room for those). I reckon I could do an 18 in the tops.

LostMyBaubles · 05/09/2018 07:53

.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/09/2018 08:31

moonlight the long line ones are amazing. I was wearing a size 20 one at about 18.5stone and 38 weeks gone, and the size 18 ones are almost the same size tbh, but smaller around the shoulders but lots of room for bumps.

I'll PM you honey and send details.

FATEdestiny · 05/09/2018 13:15

Would be very interested in your houmous recipe. I love the stuff, have it every day, buy it ready made. Are you not bothering with tahini etc then?

It's very basic. Just a tin of chickpeas blitzed with a stick blender with some of the water from the tin. I don't add tahini (I don't feel it adds to the flavour and is just unnecessary extra calories) or oil (I'm on a low fat diet, so use chickpea water to lose instead). My husband likes it salted, I prefer it as it comes. Then blitz with whatever flavour I fancy and split into portions for the next couple of days. My favourite flavours are:

  • Plain houmous. Add 1 big (or 2 small) garlic cloves and the juice of 1 lemon. Split into 2 portions.
  • Red houmous. Add 2 large (or 4 small) precooked beetroot. Split into 3 portions
  • Green houmous. Stream half a large pack of spinich and add once cooked and cooled. This is a lot of uncooked spinich but it soon shrinks when cooked. No chickpea water in this one because the spinich is watery in itself. Split between 3 portions.
  • Roasted pepper houmous. Dry roast two peppers in the oven (I don't use oil or anything). Cool, peel away skin and slice. Blitz with houmous and split between 3 portions.
  • Protein houmous. Add a tin of tuna chunks. Split between 3 portions.

I have houmous most days for lunch. I serve as a dip. You'll probably want more of the chickpea water to make it a dressing because it will need to be more liquid. You can add greek/plain yoghurt to lossen it too. Or just tap water.

So GP called and my
Bloods have come back boarderline, don't know what for though Hmm got to go in for more blood this aft and I'll find out what it is.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/09/2018 15:05

Thanks Fate, I shall do that when I finish my current tub. I also have 4 fresh beetroot looking sad in the fridge so can cook and add those too.

OP posts:
honeysucklejasmine · 05/09/2018 15:06

always that's not very helpful!

OP posts:
alwaysontimeneverlate · 05/09/2018 17:56

Am still
None the wiser. He said full blood count is abnormal and they don't know why, but didn't get any details of what exactly is abnormal, he was being very dismissive. Cholesterol and diabetes was fine which was my main concern.
I mentioned I'm down to give blood next week he said don't bother they won't take it!

honeysucklejasmine · 05/09/2018 18:44

The only think they test before taking a donation is iron levels, as far as I know. So perhaps you are a bit anaemic?

Bollocks. Weighed DS yesterday for first time in ages and he has lost weight over the summer and now underweight, he’ll struggle through the winter like this.. He said that he’d not been eating much as hated going past the builder to get food from kitchen . That’s only 2 weeks though so think the heat stopped him eating as much as usual during the holidays. He still grew taller though which hasn’t helped.

So on operation build up DS, how bloody ironic is that. Need to do it without shovelling him full of crap though. At least having done this i’m confident I can. Wish he liked peanut butter! Have set up a Nutracheck page so can have an idea of his intake to start with.

PostNotInHaste · 06/09/2018 06:40

I feel a bit bad now, he got pretty neglected this summer after I was in hospital really. Oh well, it is what it is and at least I realised now. He did say it was easier yesterday as was up before builder who left soon after he got back from school and builder off for a couple of weeks soon as well. Oh well, can’t change the past.

moocowmrs · 06/09/2018 07:25

Post, didn’t want to read n run so sending you a hug first then having a think, so I suppose it’s about getting the most calories in the food he has so cheese in mash with full cream milk and butter stuff like that. It might be a easier now it’s getting a little wintery x

FATEdestiny · 06/09/2018 07:43

How old is your son PostNotInHaste? A few of us may be able to suggest some protein heavy meals. Is he a fussy eater or will he eat most things?

Do you have any protein powder in? The online stores (myprotein.com etc) do some delish flavours. And protein powder can be used in all sorts of meals, as well as things like milkshake, hot chocolate and to flavour porriage oats.
