We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Morning all!

Lost this week: 1.5lbs (thanks, d&v!)
Lost in total: 76.75lbs
To lose: 35.25lbs

I'm 0.25lbs away from 5.5 stone.

I'm aiming for 13st 4lbs by Christmas still, which will make my BMI in to the "overweight" category. 8lbs to go.

I made this soup yesterday and it's absolutely delicious:

www.slimmingeats.com/blog/syn-free-spicy-carrot-and-lentil-soup

I shall definitely make it again. Anyone got any other great soup recipes?

MagicKeysToAsda · 28/10/2018 14:16

Sounds yummy Fate. We tend to have BOF soup (bottom of fridge) i.e. whatever random veg needs using up at the end of the week Grin Today's offering has: carrots, onions, peppers, half a can of mixed pulses, can of tomatoes, cauliflower, stock and quite a lot of garlic. Smells great but suspect it might be potent... I chucked some pearl barley in too, just for the sheer wild excitement of it.

Well, two o'clock and so far day has gone nicely, but now starting to fight the nibble urge, which is definitely not real hunger. Time to find some distractions! How's everyone else doing?

Great progress Honeysuckle, I can only admire your goal - you can do it! I must be taller than you, as I'm heavier, but just scrape down into the "overweight" category but only by the smallest of margins. Definitely want to get further away from the red band where I've been for years.

honeysucklejasmine · 28/10/2018 15:40

I'm 5'6" Magic.

I also do bottom of the fridge soup usually. Also kitchen scraps, like broccoli stem and other random bits that are absolutely fine if you blend them!

OP posts:
MagicKeysToAsda · 28/10/2018 20:26

5'8" here. OK, so today has gone well, but I now need to avoid The Snacking Trap of post-DC bedtime. Stay strong, stay strong, almost there...the extra hour is not helping me today! Is it too early to go to bed?!

honeysucklejasmine · 28/10/2018 20:31

Magic DH is going straight to bed after he finishes DS' bedtime. He's got man flu. Although tbf it's come off the back of a family d&v bug and absolutely no sleep for a week, so he is justified in feeling so rough, poor lamb.

I need to continue to tackle laundry mountain this evening. That'll hopefully keep my hand out the figurative cookie jar.

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 29/10/2018 07:25

Today I'm making pork and apple chunky soup with what's left of yesterday's joint.

Half term starts today, so fitting my daily run in will be trickier.

With a family of 6 my laundry is never ending honeysucklejasmine so I don't envy you. I don't iron anymore though. Apart from shirts, everything goes straight from tumble drier to be folded and put away. It's the putting away I hate.

What's everyone's plans for today or the week?

moonlight1705 · 29/10/2018 11:25

Off to see a nursery later for next year....what should we ask them? My DH is off as its half term so we're waiting in for the new pram Grin

Being very good food wise this week and bought some nuts and cheeses as snacks for work. I'm at a stage where I get full after a small meal but hungry easily.

MagicKeysToAsda · 29/10/2018 12:19

Half term finished for us so back to school and routine, and a run yay! So far so good on food; chunky leftovers soup for lunch.

Hope the nursery is good - just go with your gut, is it a place you feel is warm and nurturing, would you trust them? They will probably volunteer info about staffing ratios and Ofsted ratings, and if they don't you can look that stuff up online afterwards. I guess ask when you would need to make a decision by, and what sort of deposit etc applies... It's been a long time since I did this!

Quandary2018 · 29/10/2018 13:53

Moonlight I would also see the whole Nursery rather than just the baby area- ive seen some nurseries where the baby room is amazing, lots of stimulus and space etc but the older children- 3/4 year olds were bored stiff and had no room to run around-
My daughters Nursery was amazing, I cried when she left, lots of different activities, very warm, caring staff, good, nutritious, cooked on the premises food.
Definitely go with your gut instinct, ask how many settling in sessions they suggest before starting and how soon before starting would they suggest the settling in sessions take place

Half term here, I’ve defrosted the freezer! Am planning on cleaning the oven too, I was going to get the kids out in the garden for a tidy up as it’s green bin tomorrow but it’s just started tipping it down!!
Think we’ll carve our pumpkins instead.
Rest of the weeks is me at work and kids at day camp.

moonlight1705 · 30/10/2018 09:08

Thanks for the ideas about nursery - it was lovely there and they do all sorts of play, messy play, outdoor stuff and home-made food. The staff all seem pretty nice as well.

Oooh the annual freezer defrost - how is that going Quandary ?

Quandary2018 · 30/10/2018 20:35

It was a wet and prolonged affair moonlight 😂
I’d been putting it off for ages so it was my own fault

Glad you liked the Nursery and got a good ‘vibe’ from it- gut instinct is always worth listening to!

slithytove · 30/10/2018 22:37

Lost another 2lbs this week
Current total of 22lbs off
Still to lose 56 lbs

Next mini goal, 1 lb gets me my club 10 award

slithytove · 30/10/2018 23:00

Well done everyone for keeping on, I think it gets harder around this time of year

honeysucklejasmine · 31/10/2018 13:19

Well done Slithy, that's great.

I love soup season but I do struggle with snacking. Though I find that all year round anyway.

How was Halloween for everyone?

So. Many. Chocolate. Mini. Bars. 😣

I am beginning to realise that my main psychological issue regarding weight gain is that I have no will power to say no. If something delicious is there, I want to eat it and eat ALL OF IT!

The way I've solved this is by just not having the crap food in the house. But 4 children who've come home with a bucket of sweets each from trick or treating is a proper nightmare for me.

moonlight1705 · 01/11/2018 08:40

Ooh Fate that sounds difficult having to resist all those chocolate bars. Well done for keeping strong!
We didn't have a single trick or treater come to the door (we live at the top of a big hill so guess they couldn't be bothered to walk up) so have a massive bag of Haribo sitting in the cupboard.

I'm making DH take it to work to give out as prizes so I don't eat anything.

FATEdestiny · 01/11/2018 10:55

I read this article about Tom Watson this morning:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45495384

An honoury member of our club after losing 102 pounds and reversing his diabetes diagnosis. He looks so much healthier!

MagicKeysToAsda · 01/11/2018 17:08

We don't do trick or treat so were spared that particular temptation! Today was tough as work was crazy so had no time to eat all day then was ragingly hungry at 4pm once on the way home, and wanted to eat All The Things!! Managed to buy some water and some cooked chicken at the garage, and scoff that instead. This week has been so hard that it's shown me just how much I'd been slipping over the previous few weeks. I need one more strong day, and then there had better be a scales result on Saturday or you might hear the wail all over the UK Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 02/11/2018 09:02

We don't trick or treat either. I hate talking to strangers and fancy dress, so Halloween is rubbish.

Magic I hope to hear absolutely no wailing!

Fate great link about TW - interesting to read he plans on setting up some practical campaigns. Now, if he and his colleagues could look up the role of "the opposition", and get on with it, that'd be nice. Our democracy requires one, no matter your party alliances. Hmm

Hoping for a good result this weekend.

I really don’t know what’s going on with my mindset lately and I don’t know how to get my mojo back

It may be the excuse of it basically being me having a crazy time of year and have kind of putting a mental block up until new year. Fuck knows.

I don’t want to fall off the thread, does anyone mind if I just post my weigh in as I’m now going for maintenance to give myself a break and not completely fall off the wagon?

FATEdestiny · 02/11/2018 21:16

Of course we don't mind fezzesarecool. Well I certainly don't.

I'm similarly never sure about posting my weight now I've got to 100lb loss and healthy BMI. I'm going for maintenance until Christmas then try for another 10lb loss in the new year.

honeysucklejasmine · 02/11/2018 21:21

It's a long old road Fezzes, and it's ok to have a rest along the way. You've lost s phenomenal amount of weight already so maintaining it would be a huge achievement in its own right.

OP posts:
fezzesarecool · 02/11/2018 21:41

Thanks everyone, glad I don’t have to leave the thread

This definitely isn’t the end of the road and I will do this. But mindset it what’s powered me through and I need to get a grip on it again.

So I’m thinking maintenance for the meantime and accepting that that is where I am at this point will help me to get back on track in the long term.

This journey is definitely full of twists and turns!

strawberrypig · 02/11/2018 23:56

Really sensible move, Fate. As a bonus a month or so of maintenance will boost your metabolism as well.
