We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Oh fate you're so right but argh! It feels so unattainable. I might aim for it, but if I can't maintain it, I'll go up a bit.

I fit in a size 12 top today. Argh. I still feel really fat, but size 12!

Oh no moocowmrs! Did the dog get it before or after it was cooked?

I remember one year as a kid, we had loads of extra guests for Christmas dinner. Extra guests meant moving furniture and bringing in extra sideboards for serving space. My mum put the turkey on a sideboard while bringing in the rest of the vegetables and stuff. But the sofa had been moved next to the sideboard. Dog climbed on the sofa, got hold of the turkey and carried the whole thing away into her basket!!

Sorry your mojos gone fezzesarecool. Maintenance is fine though, so don't worry. I tend to have a rubbish ovulation week in terms of weight loss - so 1 work in 4 is always crap for me.

CantankerousCamel · 11/09/2018 07:22

Up half a pound :(

still 17.9 but at the top end of it now rather than the bottom.

I also measured myself and I have GAINED an inch round my tummy, hips have stayed the same and down an inch on my ribs.

It’s quite clear I’m just about to have my period and I missed the memo about not eating too much salt for water retention around this time.

So back to basics

Breakfast is always a protien smoothie

Lunch is either a meal replacement or an omelette/salad

Dinner is going to be good, tasty, fresh food

Tonight we are having an 8oz steak with broccoli and brown rice

Tomorrow and the next night we will have chicken curry with broccoli and green beans.

Snacks will be hummus and carrots
Or a protein shake
Or a handful of nuts.

I usually use my protein shakes for after training...

honeysucklejasmine · 11/09/2018 07:26

Fezzes dig out an old photo of yourself, and compare it to that dress picture. You've lost a huge amount of weight and built up a great exercise regime. Loads to be proud of.

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 11/09/2018 08:10

Great that you're in a size 12 honey! And food idea about the photo for Fezzes.

I put a pond and a half on over the weekend, after getting to 99.5lb total loss. Only relost half a pound so far but mine might end up being a maintenance week. I'm not bothered, I'm so close your healthy now that I've lost a lot of the reliance I had on the number on the scales. I know I'm eating healthily and exercising well, so I know I will continue to get healthier. I still weigh myself too much though, it's just I don't beat myself up if my loss is "only" a pound or whatever.

honeysucklejasmine · 11/09/2018 13:07

Quick post - mini victory. Decided to swap my peanut butter toast for an oat cake and peanut butter. 200 cals down to about 80, craving still satisfied.

Camel if you do think it's your period that's pretty good going tbh! Our most important motto in here - KOKO!

OP posts:
AnotherOtter · 11/09/2018 16:36

That client is a fuckwit, Chesty! It is shocking what some people think it's okay to say. Hope you are having a better week this week Thanks How's it going with the dietician?

Honey, unfortunately Strava and Fitbit use the same GPS system in your smartphone so if it's not working in Strava then it probably won't work in Fitbit. Though sometimes there can be bugs in the actual apps. I've had a problem with GPS not updating often enough with the latest version of iOS 11.4.1 and neither Strava nor Fitbit GPS tracking work. It happened immediately with the the update and I can't find a fix online though admittedly haven't searched recently. I had a similar problem with one of the 11.3s patches too which was fixed with the next update. I got a Garmin for my milestone birthday (early Grin) which has inbuilt GPS so fuck Apple! Not helpful, I know but thought I'd tell you it's not just you.

What protein powder do you use, Cantankerous?

Hope you get your mojo back soon, fezzes. Post always says a week of maintenance calories is great practice for once you've got to your goal weight so it's definitely not a waste of time.

I'm KOKO with my more moderate calorie restriction which in theory should result in 1/2-1lb off a week. Scales are still very spiky which I'm blaming on the drugs. Some days I am peeing for Scotland and others I am drinking loads and hardly going. Also back on the fybogel >.> Guess you've got to keep the faith a bit with what has worked in the past.

honeysucklejasmine · 11/09/2018 19:17

AnotherOtter are you home, love? Sorry your medicine is still giving you problems.

My DH reckons my GPS is fine, but the motion sensor or something is wrong.... The path is usually ok but it doesn't seem to link properly with timing how long I'm moving for. It's ok for a straight walk, but not for toddling round places where I start and stop. Frustrating.

I am continuing with another week of "don't eat the exercise calories" so it doesn't matter too much I guess, I know what I did. Messes up my stats though.

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 12/09/2018 07:54

I'm not a regular Strava user, but doesn't it have an option in settings somewhere that it will automatically pause when you stop moving? I'm sure you can untick that box so it doesn't try to automatically detect when you stop and start. Then it should just starts when you manually press the start button and stops when you press stop, doing the total time for your walk including any pauses and ambling.

CantankerousCamel · 12/09/2018 08:01

I use Myprotein vanilla as its the most Versatile. I can cook with it and use it as a stand alone.

I have a nutribullet and a shaker so I can take a meal out with me.

I have Myprotein meal replacement too, simply for when I don’t have the time to cook.

Today I have CrossFit from 9.30, then a client (I am a sports massage therapist) at 11. So I’ll take a shake and mix it at the gym and have a ‘meal’ on the way to my client, that way when I get home at 13.00 I will not be ridiculously hungry and eat something absurd.

Sometimes (like tomorrow) I have CrossFit and then solid clients, so those are the days I’ll make a Meal Replacement Powder maybe with added peanut butter or cocoa.

Every morning I have a smoothie with
Protien powder
Spirilina
Cholera
Wheatgrass
Açai
Maca
Peanut butter
Almond milk

And my vits in it (vit D and magnesium) those are for my bipolar and hyper mobility.

Basic rule is 2 snacks a day and 3 meals. However I quite often have 3 snacks, simply because I need protein after training.

I train 3/4 times a week (CrossFit) walk
The dog 40 mins x 2 and then twice a week I do a family MMA class

Obviously my job is quite physical too so very active

MagicKeysToAsda · 12/09/2018 16:21

Another irritating strava morning where, despite running on main roads in a busy town, and checking the gps signal and all settings, it got lost halfway through and the mapped route shows squiggles all over the place where I didn't go. Sigh. It of course then was way out in calculating any distance. I went home and downloaded mapmyrun onto my laptop, and then used that to create routes, so I now now how long various local routes are, and can just follow those instead of trying to track myself, if you see what I mean?

honeysucklejasmine · 12/09/2018 17:54

Good idea Magic. Very frustrating that it's necessary

I just had the loveliest curry!!

(Serves 4)

500g chicken

Ginger, red chilli, onion, garlic

A Pataks curry pot and a tin of coconut milk

One cauliflower

Green beans

Head of broccoli

Chop the pepper, onions and garlic and fry in oil

Add the chicken and brown. Add the red curry paste and mix.

Add the cream of the tin of coconut (drain it first) then the broccoli and green beans

Put a lid on and simmer for 15 mins

While that’s happening blitz the cauliflower in the food processor then fry with butter

Add some turmeric and a bit of garamasala and serve.

Sooooo yummy

emmamehimandthem · 12/09/2018 18:53

Ok, I’m a bit late to the party so hope it’s okay to still join in. I have a lot of weight to shift so am grateful for any support. I have a Fitbit and have a daily goal of 12,000 steps but have a disability that affects my back so sometimes I struggle to hit my goal. With 15 weeks to Christmas I’m hopping to lose at least 30 pounds Hmm by then so fingers crossed!

Getoffthetableplease · 12/09/2018 19:10

Hey emma! I only joined at the start of the month and have the same lose 30lbs by the end of the year goal as you (followed by the other 70 or so in 2019 which I'm trying to not get daunted by!!). Welcome Smile

That curry sounds lovely, cantankerous. I'm so flipping hungry right now, late dinner for us tonight though, boooo! I did manage a mini victory of sorts earlier (even though it made me sad) - my friend bought me some ww choc digestives, which was sweet of her, but they are still over 50kcals each and so thin and small... I ate 2, was desperate to scoff the lot so quickly covered the pack in washing up liquid and chucked in bin GrinBlush! I feel bad it's a waste of food but I just cannot trust myself around things like that, such a binger! Maybe one day?!

CantankerousCamel · 12/09/2018 19:51

I have an insane urge to eat some junk.

My body is craving it :( I’m literally Just about to come on my period.

Send me strength

strawberrypig · 12/09/2018 20:12

Hi Emma, 30lbs in 15 weeks is totally achievable. I did 32lbs in 15 without being too strict with myself.

honeysucklejasmine · 12/09/2018 22:49

Hi Emma, welcome aboard! Newbies always welcome! Goal sounds achievable to me, but even if you miss it you'll be lighter than you are right now! Have you thought about how you're going to do it?

Getoff well done! You've recognised your lack of control and you've taken decisive action to avoid self sabotage! Great step. This is where I am really grateful for DS' allergies - I just can't eat that sort of thing, and dairy & soya free chocolate is really really expensive, so I don't buy that either. It helps enormously.

Curry sounds nice Camel. I have a block of creamed coconut in the fridge which I tend to use, instead of straining a tin of milk. It's easier to control how much you're putting in that way. (I didn't used to keep it in the fridge but it melted in the heatwave and made a right mess. Of course, refrigerated, it's really fucking solid. I can't probably put it back in the cupboard now.)

I can really recommend Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall's "aubergine and tomato gratin" by the way. It's lush.

I make Moroccan Lamb & Lentil Stew often and the kids love it. My recipe serves 6-8.

500g Lamb (mince or diced)
3 carrots, diced
2 large sweet potatoes, diced
1 onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove
2 handfuls of red lentils
Paprika, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon and ground ginger
2 tins chopped tomatoes
3tbs tomato puree
Vegetable stock to cover
Half a large bag spinich stirred in 5 mins before serving

Chuck it all in the slow cooker (or casserole dish) for about 2h on high or 6h on low

moonlight1705 · 13/09/2018 08:00

Ok, if we are doing a few nice recipes then I've got a great one from Hugh F-W's 'Much More Veg' book.

1 swede
2 parsnips
1 red onion
Drizzle olive oil
Curry paste (4 tbsps)
1 tin coconut milk
1 400g bag spinach
200g Basmati rice

Chop the veg into chunk size pieces and put in a roasting tin with the olive oil. Roast for an hour then add the curry paste, coconut milk and spinach to the tin. Roast for another 15 minutes. Add in the cooked basmati rice and serve.

We are trying to have a few more vegetarian meals in our diet but this would also be really nice with a little chicken breast thrown in.

honeysucklejasmine · 13/09/2018 13:47

Oooh, I have some swede in the freezer, could do that one.

Lamb and lentil sounds lovely.

We're having "doner kebab" tonight. Well, pittas, salad, and some turkey mince instead of lamb.

honeysucklejasmine · 13/09/2018 15:27

moo I love the Hairy Dieters books. I have the first 3.

I'd like the Tom Kerridge book but I'm mostly cooking vegan food these days (but swapping tofu for meat) to work around DS' allergies.
