Half a stone off in July? I mean it this time!

Following on from the ‘half a stone off in June’ thread, where I lost 5lbs, I thought I’d start another one and hope to lose the full 7 this time!

I have a weekend away booked for 4th August. There may be swimwear involved - eep! So that’s a good motivator.

Would anyone like to join me?

I’m planning to do a bit of intermittent fasting (16:8) and also MFP.

I’m still feeding my 5mo, so won’t be doing anything too drastic so as not to lose milk supply.

Also will try it do some more exercise. Yoga and gardening might be my limit, though I’ve been threatening to start running too.

Haven't checked in since I started, felt like I need some extra help so I joined slimming world. I'm not sure I love it but weighed in yesterday and lost 4.5lb in the first week. Feeling pretty positive I can get to the 7lb by the end of the month!

Lexilooo · 18/07/2018 15:51

To mitigate the effects of my chinese later I have not eaten at all yet today. Plan to wait until the takeaway arrives 🙈 feeling surprisingly good for it.

I have been skipping breakfast most days due since being low carb and not really feeling hungry. I normally eat lunch (salad most days) at work but have skipped today, that means I have a full days allowances left for red wine and chinese food!

Will be extra strict tomorrow too!

Lexilooo · 19/07/2018 07:00

Well somehow despite drinking buckets of wine and eating my own body weight in prawn crackers last night I am 0.4kg down today!

That's 5 lb this month!

theredjellybean · 19/07/2018 09:39

Lexi.. Fab...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/07/2018 13:35

I’ve lost 5lb when I weighed in this morning, that’s in 10 days though (not a week) and is still only my low end of my yo-yo range! I am definitely stuck at this weight as I’ve been very good this week and run loads too. I really need a strict push to take me below this and out of this plateau. I’d like to be 9.13 (target) by 4th August

Lexilooo · 19/07/2018 13:58

Thenewaveragebear if you have lost 5lbs in 10 days you aren't stuck, that is great progress!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/07/2018 15:36

Lexi yes, except it’s the same 5lb I kept losing and regaining over and over again! I never seem to get past this hurdle, I need another decent 10 days!

Lexilooo · 19/07/2018 18:09

Ah right I see!

Are you following a particular diet or just cutting back?

Do you put weight on because you fall off the wagon with the diet? Or do you just fluctuate on the same food?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/07/2018 18:22

I do the blood sugar diet but I don’t stick to 800 calories. I fluctuate a lot because I run so I tend to do really well for a few days and then get a huge appetite- so I think I pretty much eat what I burn off, hence the overall maintain!

Lougle · 19/07/2018 19:11

I'm a bit confused now. I'm 62.4 kg this morning. So that's great. I was aiming to get to 58kg, which is what I weighed in 2014. I saw the Slimming World chat and thought I'd look at it, but I couldn't go anywhere with it, because I put my height and weight in and it said I wasn't overweight. I went shopping with my friend today, and she asked me to try something on, but they didn't have a size 10, so she handed me an 8.... It fit Hmm Now I've been thinking that I must be pushing up into a 12 at least the last few months, although I don't go clothes shopping, as I hate it and don't feel good in anything. Could losing 3.5kg really have made the difference in dress size? I'm still a size 10 really, and my tummy is still wobbly (although I bought some control pants today and they do wonders), but I think it's probably toning that I need more than weight loss.

Happinessisabook · 19/07/2018 20:21

Lougle
I find clothes sizes very shop dependent. I wear a size 12 in trousers. All my jeans/ leggings/ work trousers/ everything are all size 12 and fit perfectly.
I tried some size 12 jeans on in a different shop yesterday and could barely get them past my knees BlushSad.
I'd taken off size 12 jeans to try them on

Lougle · 19/07/2018 20:25

Oh so maybe it was a generous shop? It was Monsoon. I never shop there Grin

Lexilooo · 19/07/2018 22:03

@newaveragebear I started looking at the blood sugar diet and am doing my own version, helped by diet doctor. Like you my exercise routine wouldn't really be compatible with 800 calories a day.

I have lost over 13lbs since I got my fitness tracker and started using MFP. If you are feeling hungry then you need more fat and less carb. It is fat that makes you feel full.

Even if you can't do really low carb all the time a few lower carb days might help get you past this blip.

tiffanysfanny · 19/07/2018 22:04

Today was not a good day for me. I hope I stay strong tomorrow. I can do this. I promise. Confused

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/07/2018 07:52

Lexi yes, the calorie count is too low for me. I have played around since January with more calories/ more carbs/ more protein etc and also different amount on running days and rest days. I just can’t seem to get it right. On an average day I do 15-20k steps and run 6km (I do this five days a week) and then I do a longer run one day as well, so currently I’m doing 12km on that day, plus a rest day. I usually manage 1-2 fasting days (by fasting I mean 800-900 cals) and the rest I come in at around 12-1500. I should still be losing 1-2lb a week really, my tdee is over 2000 a day, so something’s not exactly working and I don’t know what- except for I am dropping size (have dropped a dress size despite losing no weight) and I can tell my muscle mass is increasing. But I follow the BSD principles pretty much all the time- no potato, rice, grains, pasta, sugar, fruit- so technically I shouldn’t need to count carbs as such, because on BSD it’s the type of carbs not the amount necessarily. I will check out diet doctor though, maybe there’s something there that I’m missing. Either that or I’m just at my optimum weight and my body is just refusing to drop any more, or I’m hugely underestimating what I’m eating and actually eating far more.

QOD · 20/07/2018 07:56

I’m in!!

Lexilooo · 20/07/2018 07:57

Urgh back up to 88.3kg and feeling bloated.

Was good at work yesterday but then had leftover rice and a glass of wine in the evening 😞

Oh well back on the wagon today. Lots of water. Might need to eat breakfast but I can have some eggs. Salad for lunch and stuffed peppers for dinner.

Happinessisabook · 20/07/2018 09:03

So back at 80kg today.
For the past 8 weeks I've fluctuated between 80.5kg and 79.4kg. Nothing seems to make any long term difference and it's so frustrating. My stomach is so bloated, it's bigger than it was when I was 7 months pregnant Shock

I want to lose some weight before my wedding at the end of the year and it just looks like it isnt happening.

Lexilooo · 20/07/2018 12:06

You still have time Happiness. I know you said before that you get hangry on low carb but it would probably be worth giving it a serious go as after a week or so you will find your appetite has seriously decreased and you have less cravings.

Have a read of the diet doctor website. It is a big change in mindset and you do need to eat enough fat and non-carb veggies but it works. I have lost a stone in total more than I have ever managed before.

We're all here for support, just don't throw away your progress so far.

Lexilooo · 20/07/2018 12:17

@thenewaveragebear

Keep in mind that the BSD is designed for people with a huge amount of weight to lose, you might have to alter it more if you are close to the right weight. And to be honest if your waist measurement is going down the number on the scales is a bit irrelevant.

I think the reason you aren't losing is most likely because you (or rather the calculator tool you use) is over estimating the effect of your exercise. I did quite a lot of reading and several sources (including michael moseley) suggested calculating your sedentary tdee only as the tools over estimate exercise. Reduce your tdee by 500 calories a day to get an amount that gives you a 1lb a week loss and any exercise you do over that is extra calorie deficit.

Having said that you will probably need to eat a bit more on the days of your long runs.

Are you training for an event or just fun/fitness?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/07/2018 12:49

Lexi my tdee is my sedentary rate, I don’t include the running although realistically I must be burning a few hundred extra calories a day even with a generous estimate, so if I eat 1200 cals and run 6km I should be still losing something. If I am super strict I do still lose but then if I increase calories back to 1200 I go back to 10.7 and then pretty much stay there regardless of what I eat or drink (within reason) - this is what makes me think this is just my ideal weight, my body just naturally stays here. It’s always fighting to gain a few pounds to get back up to this weight! There must be a physiological reason I’m sure. I wonder if I’m perhaps not eating enough, but if I do increase calories to 1800 ish, I gain weight. I’m running for fun really rather than training, although I am about to start doing a weekly speed training run, again just for fun though, to push myself.

I am going to do a strict 2 weeks now before our holiday and see.

Apologies for high jacking the thread!

Lougle · 20/07/2018 13:24

I'm back to 62.9 kg today, that's a 0.5 kg gain overnight! I'll ban the scales, I think.

theredjellybean · 20/07/2018 17:22

Thenewaveragebear.. I also run similar amounts to you and frankly if I eat more than 1200 calories I gain weight. To lose weight I need to eat 800 or under and if I eat between those amounts I hover up and down the same few pounds.
How old are you?
I definitely need less calories now I am peri menopausal.
I was eating 800 calories all week and dropping big amounts and then having one blow out Meal and gaining it all back..
So the last two weeks I have tried to eat 1100 calories and not had blow out and I have seen slow drop on scales that has stayed down
Last yr I was running 5*15km a week and never lost a pound... You can't outrun a bad diet.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/07/2018 17:55

Thered I’m 35. To be fair, I don’t have a bad diet- I eat no processed food, I eat virtually no sugar, very low carbs, fresh veg, meat, eggs, protein. No junk food at all pretty much, maybe once a month I eat cake or a dessert. I cook from scratch almost every day. I’m 5’7” so it’s not like I need fewer calories. I’m not trying to run off a bad diet! I only only weigh myself once a week and I think I might try that ‘happy scale’ thing for a few weeks and weigh more regularly, as perhaps I’m having fluctuations of water retention etc? It just seems strange that it’s always exactly the same weight I fluctuate to! And additionally, I’m looking really skinny, my clothes are too loose, I’m dropping dress sizes- but it’s not showing on the scales. Now I know I shouldn’t be too hung up on the numbers, but I am. I want to be in the 9’s!!
