Hi everyone! So a minuscule loss this week 0.25lb but still a loss right?! So still at 9lb 7.
2 weeks since I did my half marathon and time I started running again. Going to go this morning and test out whether my knee niggle has gone.
Struggling a bit with sticking to MFP 1200 calories and thinking I should increase it a bit now as would be happy with slow loss.
Hope everyone's having a good start to the weekSmile

HappyGowerGirl · 05/06/2018 07:16

Welcome new people! Great start Ada!

Muddy I would love to tag along on your booze free month, it won’t be a completely dry one for me but I should be able to have mostly booze free weeks.

I stood on the scales tomorrow expecting a loss and instead I seemed to have gained 4lb in the last few days!!!😡 I had a really good day yesterday as well so I really don’t get it! Ugh.

FizzingWhizzbee · 05/06/2018 07:24

Morning all! And welcome newbies !

Yesterday was weird. Good weight (12st 5.9) and I did stick to an 8 hour eating window, but I was hopelessly over my calories and ate so much junk! I was just so hungry! I think it was a combo of being tired (2 bad nights sleep in a row does for me now - no idea how I coped when DD was tiny!) and a switch between 16:8 patterns where Sunday was 8am - 4pm and Monday was 1pm - 9pm. I think in future if I'm switching that way around I'll need a 'normal' day in between.

Anyway, today's weight was slightly up - 12st 6.2. But that is still bloody good for me, and puts my average at 12st 6.0 so far. This is bloody good for a Tuesday! And over 3lb down on last Tuesday, which is lovely.

I'm hoping for a good 16:8 day today as I have my first Barre class (ballet exercises, hoping my achilles can cope) and the timing means I'll struggle to fit in dinner anyway.

Nan yep, a loss is a loss! Well done on the HM, I totally missed that.

lastqueenofscotland · 05/06/2018 07:41

I’m 3lbs heavier than I was on Sunday which doesn’t make sense as I was super good calorie wise all weekend Angry

MuddyForestWalks · 05/06/2018 08:18

The people who are gaining/STS - assuming you're not just a bit premenstrual, it can be water retention. There is an interesting article about it www.muscleforlife.com/water-retention-and-weight-loss/

HairsprayBabe · 05/06/2018 09:03

Not weighed again, no time in the mornings as I like to faff about with the scales - and re weigh a few times...

yesterday went well no snacking but a bit of heavy dinner so I guess I will see how I do tomorrow, stirfry for tea tonight.

KOKO all!!

FizzingWhizzbee · 05/06/2018 09:14

That's a really good article, Muddy - I knew about wooshes (because fellow Senderistas explained it to me), but not about the causes and other options for dealing with water retention, which absolutely plagues me.

While I was looking at that website, I found this interesting article on cheat meals, which I thought I would share: www.muscleforlife.com/cheat-meal/

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to eat some more potassiumSmile

QuimReaper · 05/06/2018 11:36

Good lord Fizz, 3lb down in one week is amazing, sounds like you definitely got away with the slight control deficiency yesterday. I do find the articles on tat website surprisingly informative, although I tend to just read them for info - I really can't see myself ever managing to "track my macros" and all that. I do like being armed with information even if I'll never put it into effect Grin

Happy and lasty how frustrating for you both! As Muddy says it must be a fluid blip, but it's so bloody annoying when that happens.

Ada 1310 is such a random number, did MFP serve it to you based on your stats? I agree on the sustainability thing, knowing how to get the most bang for your buck in terms of calories is absolute gold in terms of maintaining afterwards. I tried low carbing for a little while donkeys years ago, and although ultimately I realised I like carbs too much to go without them for any extended period of time, it forced me to get a great repertoire of carb-free meals, and especially ones which can be carbed-up for DH. That's been absolutely invaluable long-term and was a real sea change for me. I now don't eat carbs at all during the week, which I think is such an easy and effective way to keep calories down.

Enormous fan btw Smile Not of that particular text for some reason though, it's never struck a chord with me.

HairsprayBabe · 05/06/2018 12:43

I AM SO HUNGRY I MIGHT DIE!

BinkerTell · 05/06/2018 13:12

Thank you for the warm welcome! I started using MFP yesterday, it’s very informative. I totally agree with Ada about getting the most nutrition and satiety for your calorie buck.

I have made a couple of small changes which have been really enlightening in terms of saving calories, one of which has been switching to espressos instead of lattes.

AdaArdor · 05/06/2018 15:53

MuddyForestWalks thanks for that link. It's really interesting to know the actual science behind water retention, and whooshes! Great stuff. As a huge salt addict, I think I'll be needing to refer to this numerous times.... Grin

Quim Yes that's MFPs auto-calculation based on my height, most recent weight and loss aim (set to lose 1.5lbs a week). It is a bit random, but I played around with some figures and it always gives me a really curious number. I think if I were to set to maintain today, MFP would allow me 1568 calories.... It's all a bit specific! Confused Happy to meet another Nabokov fan, hurrah - doesn't happen too often! We are also carb-twins - I get too much enjoyment out of them to cut completely, but by eating them less frequently, it's healthier and I appreciate them so much more when I do eat them, so a great bowl of pasta becomes amazing, rather than just a standard weeknight dinner. Likewise, all the bread! Smile

BinkerTell little things like that make a huge difference over a sustained amount of time, you're right. I did enjoy a Nero frappe latte on Sunday which was really delicious and I don't feel guilty about at all.....! Wink

ponygirlcurtis · 05/06/2018 16:33

BinkerTell when I realised I was using up 150 calories a day on milk for my 3 cups of tea I cut it back to two cups then 1 (with mint tea added instead). I feel like my daily cuppa is a treat now! 😆

FizzingWhizzbee · 05/06/2018 17:06

Pony the only think I refuse to count is the milk in my tea. I know it must seem really silly, but I never have and I never willBlush.

Quim - that's lovely of you to say so, but last Tuesday was an inexplicably high number. A reverse woosh, if you will! I think only only a pound down in 'real' terms but I'm still pleased with it.

I've been giving myself some mini goals today to keep myself motivated and here they are:

2 more lb lost = 1 stone lost
4 more lb lost = top of a healthy BMI range
6 more lb lost = cross over another stone barrier from 12 to 11.

I like that they are all 2lb apart, and small enough increments to feel doable, reasonably quickly.

I go on holiday in 7 weeks, and it makes me feel like I really could get under 12 stone if I work hard. Frankly I'll need to - holiday will be 2 weeks sitting on a sunny terrace drinking wine and eating cheese!Smile

Hoolahoophop · 05/06/2018 22:14

Bit late but wow speedy fizz the famous critic!

Binker and anyone else care to share your easy swap or bang for your buck food ideas. Ive always been a good and adventurous cook but I've lost my mojo recently and am in a food slump (maybe something to do with trying to feed a Dieter, a toddler, a baby and a husband who could get home anytime before midnight)

FizzingWhizzbee · 05/06/2018 22:39

Hoola - I have lots of lovely meals that fit well with my calorie requirements, I'm just conscious that I have a relatively high calorie goal so they might not work for all. What sort of calories per meal were you thinking?

lastqueenofscotland · 06/06/2018 07:34

10 8 so back to the weight I was on Saturday. No idea where those random 3 came from! Bodies are weird.

Bitsandboobs · 06/06/2018 07:47

So, I'm down to 10st, having started on 10st 6 at the beginning of last week. I know you tend to loose more at first but I'm actually surprised I managed to loose that much in a relatively short space of time. Am happy to be down to 10st in time for my holiday on Friday, will see what I weigh when I get back!!!!

ponygirlcurtis · 06/06/2018 08:16

Wow last and Bits well done!

Hoola my meals average about 350-400 calories at the moment on the BSD and I feel it is enough (not saying I couldn't eat more though!). The Tom Kerridge no-carb lasagne is a good one, or a big curry with lots of veg and cauliflower rice. I know BOOP loves the Hairy Bikers recipes and I do too, I have a couple of their diet recipe books. For me, cutting carbs out allows me to pile loads of other things on the plate so it's definitely filling.

AdaArdor · 06/06/2018 08:48

Hoola I'll try and share some of my go-to recipes later but I am vegetarian (moving towards veganism) so you might want to make some edits depending on your goals and preferences!

Fizzing and Bits well done on your losses!

I weighed this morning and have STS at 11 stone which I'm quite happy about as had quite a heavy weekend. I will weigh in in another fortnight and hope to be another pound or two down by then. I've got some new recipes I want to try to re-motivate me, but also a few dinners out which are always hard to control! Workout tonight and hopefully Friday too, try and burn a few restaurant calories Smile

KOKO everyone!

diodati · 06/06/2018 09:50

Count me in!

HappyGowerGirl · 06/06/2018 10:08

Queen literally the same thing happened to me! I’m magically 5lb lighter again (back to the same weight I was on the weekend) this morning. And my scales are always so accurate! Bodies are weird!

BinkerTell · 06/06/2018 10:10

Well done bits - how nice that you will feel good for your holiday!

I have lowered my calorie allowance to the TDEE for my ideal weight (a tip from another thread, sorry can't remember the name of the poster to credit her) so is now 1500 per day.

Other tips - erm, in general, I try not to drink my calories (apart from booze) and to eat more veg than anything else on my plate. I'm probably not the best person to ask though, as I have really struggled to maintain any weight loss for a decent period of time.

Am determined to make it stick this time. I think the problem I had with Slimming World is that I don't enjoy low calorie versions of things (e.g. Muller Lights, Alpen Light bars) and ate them while on the plan but when I reached target, I started eating food I enjoyed more and the weight piled on again. Low carbing seems to be working better. I had a sneaky weigh this morning and I'm 3.5lb down on Sunday (???) which is probably an anomaly but encouraging nonetheless.

FizzingWhizzbee · 06/06/2018 10:13

12st 6.2 this morning. It's still a good weight for me, but I was hoping to be a bit lighter than that, TBH - I had an excellent day for both cals and 16:8, and then worked my behind off (sadly only metaphorically) at my barre class. But, my average is holding steady at 12st 6.1, which is the lowest it has ever been, so actually I am really happy.

lastqueenofscotland · 06/06/2018 12:31

Happy it’s so weird isn’t it.
I was fuming! Now less so Grin

Hoolahoophop · 06/06/2018 13:26

Thanks for replies all. I'm trying to stick to 1200 a day no more than 250 each for breakfast and lunch, 150 for an evening snack or yoghurt for pudding so 550 for evening meal. Then getting 11k steps. I'm under 5ft so my calorie allowance is pretty low. Sad

What's Barre like fizzing is it all super stretchy?

Well done bits and to the mystery gains, I feel your pain. Sad
