I need to lose three stone... My cunning plan to lose the two stone over the winter was scuppered by me putting on another one.
So does anyone fancy a healthy eating thread? Sensible and no sugar and crap?
Or does anyone have time to follow me around prising the rubbish I'm about to consume out of my mouth?
The plan is to eat really well then at the weekend have one reasonable treat. I'm going to eat carbs but small amounts early in the day and only wholegrain or brown rice.
I'm just going to start with a stone and then see how it goes.

@londonloves firstly, Thanks sorry you're feeling rubbish. We will all have crappy days, not that I suppose that knowledge helps much, but I hope we can all help each other through the hard days a bit.

What are your "weaknesses" and the areas of food that you struggle with most? You've done so well to be only a stone away from your pre-baby weight though. Sometimes I guess the pressure of a "big" event can make it seem harder. Like when you've got a massive exam coming up and you know you should be revising but the pressure of it makes you scared and avoid the books completely (or is that just me!).

Thinking of you and sending un-Mumsnetty hugs. And some virtual gin. Gin

Middleoftheroad · 16/04/2018 21:52

Londonloves I wouldn't advocate Cambridge but it was the only way to get a fast start for me. It's like Slimfast, Lighter Life etc.

Weight Watchers always worked (albeit slowly) but they changed it. I put on weight with new system (and Slimming World) so am.back to old fashioned cal counting on MFP and have lost 3lbs in first week.

I've 'only' got 2st to lose but not wearing what I want resonates.

I have a dreadful C-section overhang and even when I got to goal it looked worse as I was thinner. I looked at surgery but chickened out. So even when I was thin I still hated my body and have been trying to accept it.

londonloves · 17/04/2018 05:54

Thank you everyone. And sorry if I'm taking up loads of airtime in the bread - hopefully some of my issues are universal.
Big weak spot at the moment is days at work - I get up at 5, run around doing housework so my mum hasn't got to do it when looking after the baby, before I leave for 0555 train and by the time I get to work I feel like I deserve a treat so often succumb to some sort of pastry en route, can't ever get organised to take lunch in so buy sandwiches and crisps, crave carbs by 11am cos I'm so knackered. I worked on Sunday and went nearly 1000 calories over my allowance. I am hungry ALL the time and I do think I've maybe got some imbalance going on. Then wine and pizza at the weekend because every week is tough!
I suppose I need to just accept being hungry and remember "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"!

londonloves · 17/04/2018 05:57

I've got some shakes from Beachbody which I guess are a similar principle, I can't do their workouts cos of my prolapse but I could do the shakes for a week and see what happens. I just want to be 11 stone something for my holiday and fit size 14 clothes. Then 10 stone something for my wedding and fit size 12.

londonloves · 17/04/2018 06:37

Haha just read this back- *airtime on the thread! Freudian slip on the bread front!

Middleoftheroad · 17/04/2018 07:59

London that's a long day and early start with a baby. No wonder you're hungry. The baby years are exhausting and work can feel like an even longer day then.

Can you buy lots of say 100 cal healthy snacks to pop in your bag save grabbing a pastry? It's that and the prepared sandwich creating extra cals.

I always take my own lunch (appreciate you dont have time though) but prep it night before. It's often very fast (toasted bagel, 1tbsp philadelphia light for example) and if you do want crisps at least French Fries or Quavers for lower cal.

Graze box sounds great as those aren't dead calories like crisps and will give you more energy.

chalkyc2 · 17/04/2018 08:19

Late to the party ladies but can I join you. A sad sad 5 stone to lose here. I lost 5 stone 5 years ago but then got injured, stopped running and it's all back. Awful but anyway - it needs to go.
Just about to jump off train to go to work but back later!

londonloves · 17/04/2018 10:59

1055 am in the "Big Momma" House, no junk consumed yet - had 130 cal Graze box, apple and banana. Going into a meeting now so will make it to lunchtime without premature lunching. Going to look for some protein-heavy non bread lunch vibes later.

Am f7cKING starving. Hate everyone. Especially the people selling charity cakes in the lobby at work.

twer · 17/04/2018 11:38

Yesss! I'm joining too!

Had a realisation the other day when DSis told me she was going on a diet. Showed me her chart she had prepared and I saw her starting weight is actually what I'd LOVE to be right now. She's always been heavier than me 😿 not anymore.
For me, it's all the eating out, treating myself. And the wine through the week. Pffffft.

So - in the interest of full disclosure I'm 78kg, would like to be under 70.
I've put on 10kg in 2 years

chalkyc2 · 17/04/2018 11:50

Are we sharing starting weights?? Eek - I'd love to be yours twer!!

Sugar. Sugar is my vice and I am trying to convince myself that basically obesity is as bad as smoking (and I definitely judge people who smoke) so I need to get a bloody grip.

But I reckon stopping smoking is easier than loosing weight?

londonloves · 17/04/2018 12:26

I'm 12 stone 10, was 11 stone 10 pre pregnancy, want to be 10 stone ideally. I reckon the number is less important than the feeling though. I know at 10 stone I feel amazing.

hmcAsWas · 17/04/2018 12:33

Thread title caught my eye as this is precisely my predicament - also made me Grin but in rueful way.

I've made a start on healthy eating as of today (bit late for the current warm weather) - am recording everything in an online food diary.

Have just spent last 5 minutes finding light weight but camouflaging top to take the dogs on a walk and have decided to walk them in the quietest spot possible with minimal chance of bumping into anyone else. This is definitely not right - I don't want to start avoiding going out in public because I feel like an eyesore!

Daisy2315 · 17/04/2018 14:17

Can I join to, I also dread this warm weather and the thought of not having my coat for protection.

I managed to lose 1 1/2 stone last year but weighed myself yesterday and am only 2 lbs off my starting weight last year. I am so disappointed that I let all that hard work go to waste. It started going wrong when dd went to secondary and I could no longer go to the gym as often due to change in family timetable. This then led to me eating whatever I wanted as forgot about the weight but now it’s all crept back.

I have nothing to wear in the warm as I don’t fit last summers clothes and the previous ones I threw out last year saying I would never get that size again.

londonloves · 17/04/2018 17:29

How has everyone's day been? I'm going to come in under my calorie target today I think , I am absolutely famished though. I think my body is in some sort of sugar withdrawal crisis.

EatWorms · 17/04/2018 18:53

daisy I need my coat too 😩dreading this week and the forecast of 24c some days here honestly I have literally no summer clothes that actually fit me right now :(

AllGoodDogs · 17/04/2018 19:32

Evening all! Day not quite to plan as visited my nan and she's a feeder.... made me eat biscuits wail so I skipped lunch to stay within calories. Had slow cooker chilli for dinner and could easily have had seconds but I didn't. Looking forward to some popcorn and fruit as my late night snack once the kids are in bed.

Do any of you have a cut off time for eating? I think I remember hearing you shouldn't eat after 9pm, but evenings after the kids are in bed is my favourite time of day and would struggle to not eat then .

winterisstillcoming · 17/04/2018 20:20

London loves, go easy on yourself. Those baby days are seriously hard. Make sleep as much a priority as diet and exercise. Can you catch a snooze on the train??

I've tried on my dress again and I still look like a sofa Confused

hmcAsWas · 17/04/2018 20:23

Well done on coming in under your target londonloves. I have come in at 34 calories under but given that its my first day it would be a bit of a shocker if I can't at least start well.

Feeling a bit peckish at the moment but nothing too awful

AllGoodDogs - I don't think I will need a cut off time for eating because its very unlikely I will have many calories free for evening snacking after dinner is finished! Well done on resisting your second portion of chilli

cheshiremama89 · 17/04/2018 20:27

Can I join?
My 10 week old DS is getting christened in July and I would like to be 2 stone lighter!

Currently 10 stone (5 foot 2)

Alicatz66 · 17/04/2018 20:29

I know it's hard .. but I'm alwAys meal planning and listing and counting calories .. and this leads to me obsessing over food and eating more !!! .. for instance when I'm on holiday and away from scales and charts etc and walk more I never put weight on . I'm reading books on intuitive eating and trying to actually learn when I'm hungry ... cutting carbs makes me a grumpy insomniac who wees all night!!!

whereiscaroline · 17/04/2018 21:42

Evening all!

Was so chuffed this morning, managed to lose 4lbs in the first week! And 4cm off my waist so definitely wasn't imagining feeling less bloated either.

But tonight I feel CRAP! Hungry, tired, headachey. Have come to bed early - I would blame it on sugar withdrawal but I've been scoffing lots of fruit so I'm not sure it can be.

Honestly don't think I've ever gone a week without junk food before though so another huge thank you to @Tainrainrain for starting the thread. It's soooo helpful having it.

Actually I've just remembered that I did have half a ginger nut on Saturday. But I'm not counting that!

londonloves · 17/04/2018 21:42

It's difficult to recognise real hunger instead of sugar cravings isn't it.
I am having real trouble sleeping at the moment, even when the baby is asleep, and tiredness definitely makes me more hungry. I can't really sleep on the commute as it's train - walk - overground or train - tube - overground so if I fell asleep I might end up in the wrong place!
My mum has made me a healthy packed lunch for tomorrow bless her.
Came in 57 cals over in the end but I think that's ok, seem to lose if I nett under 1500 taking off exercise.
Already looking forward to my allowed glass of wine tomorrow night.

londonloves · 17/04/2018 21:45

Caroline that's amazing, well done xxx
Yes big thanks from me too to OP! I said it before but this thread is properly supportive, with no snarky comments about sugar and carbs and all that.
(

londonloves · 17/04/2018 21:46

Sorry you're feeling crap though. I could quite happily roll around in a bath of malteasers and wine tonight.

PixieN · 17/04/2018 22:37

@Caroline - that’s a great result! Well done you!

I’m really struggling with the late night munchies. I gained a couple of lbs on holiday last week despite no scales & lots of exercise. I need to be more disciplined with food, but it’s even harder to resist when you’ve had a long day at work! At least getting back to routine means I don’t snack much in the day. I craved chocolate again this evening so I had a small bowl of strawberries & blueberries with natural yoghurt on top instead. Annoyingly (& prob fortunately) my DH had eaten the only chocolate bar in the house!

@Alicatz66 - didn’t Paul McKenna write a book about eating habits & how to be slim? Meant to buy it a while ago & never got round to it. I think it’s all about changing your relationship with food & knowing when you’re full etc.
