I have to lose 5 stones. 6 would be better. My excess weight is not helping my health. It’s one thing to worry about how I look but it’s really holding me back now. I’m tired and achey.

I’m pushing 50 so I really ought to get a grip!

My plan is to generally be healthier and eat better, eat less and squeeze in some exercise. Which is tricky because I work really long hours.

I’m starting now. I ate a huge Belgian bun earlier while standing up putting shopping away. Things like that need to stop.

If anyone wants to join please feel free but I intend to post even if I just talk to myself.

If I’m successful I’m going to treat myself to new clothes for Christmas. I’m in elasticated waisted jersey trousers now, ugh!

I'm Johnny come lately but can I join in?

I need to lose 6-7 stone in total (just threw out broken scales, so don't know how much I weigh).

I have been battling depression the last couple of years but have turned a bit of a corner and I really think my next step to wellness is to tackle the weight, not so much for the way I look (although it would be a boon to be able to enjoy clothes shopping rather than just trying to find "body coverings") but to improve my health. I had pancreatitis a couple of years ago due to gallstones and although the stone was removed, I am still experiencing mild symptoms. I have a genetic predisposition to autoimmune issues that effect the liver and pancreas so I really need to get a grip now (at 42) before it spirals into proper ill health.

I've really neglected myself. I used to be so fit and now my body screams at me after a 15 min stroll round the park - it can't go on.

I am doing a three day juice fast to get myself going. Day 2 today and it's been ok apart from a headache last night. Did a coffee enema this morning (as recommended by somebody I know who healed their liver problems naturally)... the least said about that the better.

My plan going forward is to do a combo of 5:2, low carb and a bit of Paul McKenna. Fasting is good for pancreatic conditions as it gives it a break from digesting and allows inflammation to resolve, so I think it will help me on that score and I find I have more energy when low carbing.

Very pleased to see the talk of swimming skirts. I bought one last year, I will never go back!

Ruby -How about these instead of a Magnum?

Hi Dick,
If I could turn the clock back and tackle my weight I would, my body is nowhere near as good as it ought to be.
Go for it!

Morning all - had a busy couple of days with work and D's birthday. Not been terrible, but not been 100% perfect either.

Back on today with a clear, social free week and lots of chances to exercise. And gardening!

Smile
RubySlippers77 · 19/04/2018 09:37

They look nice glitter! Where did you find them?

Hi Dick! I hope the juice diet is going well - could your GP help in any way as well, recommend any support groups etc? DP is pre diabetic and has been offered lots of help (I'm guessing because it's cheaper to stop these things before they start!), is there anything they could suggest?

I'm down 1lb since Monday. Think that was due to Tuesday when I couldn't eat much!

Enjoy the gardening Ramona. I've slapped on some fake tan to make it look like I've caught the sun Grin

Just checking in to say hello to everyone who's still here, and a big welcome to this week's joiners!

My week is going pretty well so far, am still finding My Fitness Pal useful - and the good news is that my husband is doing it too, which is a massive help.

DickTERFin · 19/04/2018 17:08

Thanks Glitterbiscuit.

That's a good idea Ruby. I'm a bit avoidant of the doctor but they may have some useful resources hate the inevitable telling off you have to go through first.

Finished juice fast and it went ok. Not to hard to complete which gives me a bit of confidence to start the 5:2 (might bump it up to 4:3 once I'm in the swing of it, but baby steps and all that).

BlackCat04 · 19/04/2018 17:58

Hi everyone, just found this post and would like to join 😄
I've just had a baby (11 weeks old) and need to get this baby weight (and more!) off
4 stone to get to the top of my healthy weight range 🙈 but I'd just be happy fitting back into my old clothes at least, I'm not doing any particular diet but just trying healthy home cooked dinners and going for a walk every day as I'm on mat leave until October and want to be a couple of stone down by then 🤞🏻
Currently weighing in at 15st exactly so that awkward stage when you're trying to get into the next stone bracket 😆

stickerrocks · 19/04/2018 18:57

BlackCat I couldn't even have considered getting off the sofa to find a healthy home cooked dinner at 11 weeks. Welcome!

RubySlippers77 · 19/04/2018 22:32

I can't even remember what I was doing at 11 weeks BlackCat as I was so exhausted!! Well done you!

DP accused me of breaking the loft ladder today by being too fat to stand on it Sad that is very hurtful, frankly not true and even more annoying as he still weighs 21 stone Angry

sleepyloris · 20/04/2018 07:22

Morning all, I've only just caught up with the thread after a manic week, youngest got chickenpox last Friday which made us housebound last weekend (which led to way too much boredom snacking). I've been busy at work, then yesterday my youngest was at the hospital for an intolerance test so he couldn't eat or drink all morning, then I went to a Grease sing-a-long with friends so dinner last night was wine! I've avoided the scales all week but was down 1lb this morning.
I'm hoping the heat of the past few days motivates me to get back on track, I dread hot weather when it's harder to hide all my fat under a pair of jeans and a Cardi.

RubySlippers77 · 20/04/2018 09:08

Oh dear loris! Hope your youngest is better now and you're feeling more motivated Smile

Today I am in shorts (size 16) again and a short sleeved top, nothing too revealing but cool, need to be able to run round after toddlers! I guess now I'm older I assume no-one will be looking at me anyway, all the men will be busy staring at the gorgeous young girls in hot pants. Either that or I'm just too tired to care after 3 years with not much sleep!

GreyandGrumpy48 · 20/04/2018 11:15

Just checking in. Not too bad a week foidwise do far but depressed at not having any nice summer clothes now the weather has turned. Got a few 16s that fit but most of my clothes are too tight when it’s hot but i’m not sure I want to buy more in the size I am now.

glitterbiscuits · 20/04/2018 12:28

I agree Grey. I have loads of clothes that would look lovely if I could fit into them. I am still in elasticated trousers and t shirts. And a cardigan because of my enormous arms.

Food wise I’ve been good but not perfect. I feel like I deserve a medal every time I eat an apple instead of a cake! In face I make a point of saying to DH ‘ I’ve had an apple’
And as he is someone who would choose fruit over chocolate he is not as impressed as I think he ought to be.

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 20/04/2018 23:59

Well glitter, I will send you a big 'well done' for choosing the apple, because I'd far rather have the chocolate too!!

Have any of you read Neris & India's Idiot Proof Diet? Their diet plan is low carb, which doesn't really suit me, but the rest of the book is great and very encouraging. And in it they say that some of the biggest hurdles are the ones no-one else acknowledges - like turning down the Cake and Biscuit

Not a great day for me either, was very hungry for some reason, and am going out for afternoon tea tomorrow too 😱 luckily (?!) my tooth infection is stopping me eating too much!

sleepyloris · 21/04/2018 08:51

Morning all, after a so-so week I got myself back on track tomorrow.
I really need some new trousers, I'm between sizes at the moment, 18 needs a belt, 16 too tight. I've decided I've got 3 weeks then I'll buy some - whatever size fits (too many years of buying things that'll fit when I lose a bit more, that end up never getting worn).
There won't be many apples in our house, DS2 has just been diagnosed with fructose malabsorption, meaning he can't snack on fruit or veg. Trying to get my head round it and find a way of filling the house with healthy snacks that aren't fruit - don't want to have too many carby crackers as I just graze on them. We're gluten free as well as husband and DCs are coeliac. I will still buy fruit for the rest of us, it's just trying to find snacks for him that won't tempt me - unfortunately I am a serial grazer.

glitterbiscuits · 21/04/2018 15:09

Blimey Loris that sounds like a challenge.

I’ve been gardening all morning. I’ve got blisters. More to do later or tomorrow but it’s lovely to be outside at last.

OP posts:
JustBeingJobless · 21/04/2018 16:31

Another 1.5lb off at weigh in yesterday, so takes me to 20.5lb in total. Very nearly my stone and a half! Aiming for 6st in total so I’m almost a quarter of the way there and it’s not been too painful so far Grin

Went to the theatre last night, and ended up eating Chinese and drinking too much wine, so going to have to work hard for the next few days to minimise any damage!

RubySlippers77 · 21/04/2018 22:46

Well done Just!

DP has complicated dietary requirements too loris - no dairy apart from lactose free products, no red meat, no carbs... combination of lactose intolerance, gout and pre diabetes. Food shopping is such a joy Confused

How did the gardening go glitter? I was out at an afternoon tea. Didn't go over the top and pig out and haven't had a big dinner later, hope I've balanced out the bad stuff!

RubySlippers77 · 21/04/2018 23:45

I took out some size 14 trousers to wear today loris thinking oh, these were nice and baggy and cool to wear last year - well, they aren't baggy now 😱

Made me realise that I spent most of last year comfort eating because I felt bad about myself and it's only now that I'm doing something about it!

As glitter says - thin by Christmas Grin

glitterbiscuits · 22/04/2018 17:36

2 days of gardening and fence painting this weekend.
This had better pay off by tomorrow’s weigh in as I can barely move my arms.

stickerrocks · 22/04/2018 18:03

A lovely chap in his 30s offered me his seat on the tube yesterday. a) I was with my teenage daughter and look far too old to be pregnant and b) if I Don't look pregnant, I must still look hideously overweight even after losing 20lbs. I Don't believe he was just being lovely. Grrr. Perhaps I look like Rachel Weiss....

glitterbiscuits · 23/04/2018 08:22

I’m 2lbs down.

So 16 3lbs now. Still higher than my lowest a few weeks ago but on the right track again and this last week I haven’t made a special effort. Just tried not to over eat.
So, roughly 12 weeks to the start of the UK summer holidays and 35 weeks to Christmas a 2lb average would be brilliant.

Thanks for keeping me company!

OP posts:
GreyandGrumpy48 · 23/04/2018 09:04

Well done glitter. 1lb for me this week so painfully slow but haven’t been eating great. 2 lb to the next stone bracket so really want to have a good week and get there.

mama2005 · 23/04/2018 09:29

Morning all - well done Glitter and Grey!

2 1/2 lbs off this week, so 9 lbs off since I started with this marvellous thread.

I am feeling better in myself, and am forcing myself out of my safe black clothes and into brighter colours. Have had a few nice comments this week too, which is spurring me on!
