Thin by Christmas! At least 5 stones to get rid of.

I have to lose 5 stones. 6 would be better. My excess weight is not helping my health. It’s one thing to worry about how I look but it’s really holding me back now. I’m tired and achey.

I’m pushing 50 so I really ought to get a grip!

My plan is to generally be healthier and eat better, eat less and squeeze in some exercise. Which is tricky because I work really long hours.

I’m starting now. I ate a huge Belgian bun earlier while standing up putting shopping away. Things like that need to stop.

If anyone wants to join please feel free but I intend to post even if I just talk to myself.

If I’m successful I’m going to treat myself to new clothes for Christmas. I’m in elasticated waisted jersey trousers now, ugh!

Although my toast and marmalade addiction has also returned, will have to work on that before I return to WW!!

glitterbiscuits · 19/08/2018 09:21

I've gained 12lbs!

I was convinced I'd be fine on holidays.

How is everyone else doing? I'm going to catch up on the thread

There are 18 weeks until Christmas! So if we lose 2lbs per week that's 2 and a half stones.

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 19/08/2018 18:26

I was the same on hols glitter, thought all the running around I did would cancel out the cake I ate... sadly not Sad

Will weigh in tomorrow and draw a line under it - spent a week post-holiday feeling terrible but on the mend now - and really want to have more energy. With DP aiming for the Laziest Man in the World award, I feel like one of us owes it to the DC to improve their health...

Are you going to follow a particular diet/ strategy or general healthy eating & more exercise?

fezzesarecool · 19/08/2018 19:09

Eeek, on holiday at the moment and got my fingers crossed that I’ve maintained.

Definitely aiming for at least a pound a week when I’m back.

mama2005 · 19/08/2018 21:34

Eek from me too - also on hols, will check in when am back!

RubySlippers77 · 20/08/2018 11:06

I gained 5lb Sad

Hopefully possibly some of that is AF-related, but realistically most of it is cake-related...

Currently have 35lb to lose and it's 35 weeks till my birthday. It's a sign!!

Started well today, ate healthily, took the DC for a walk/ run in the buggy which they enjoyed, ordered some workout clothes via Ebay as mine are all from my thinner days! Crammed myself into sports bra, leggings and one of DP's XXL t shirts for our walk.

Does anyone have any meal planning tips? I need to do it - think it would make a real difference to my dieting - but just find it soooo boring...

RubySlippers77 · 23/08/2018 00:34

Is anyone still going?! Worried that I'm slipping back into my old (bad) habits Sad

glitterbiscuits · 23/08/2018 07:22

There are GCSE results in our house today so we are planning a meal out tonight,
But them on FRiday I am back on it, I have also been slipping. A combination of feeling unwell and the holidays. It's so hard to break lifelong eating habits.

I dreamt I was jogging around the block last night, it's an omen!
I know of a fold up treadmill for sale. DH may not be amused at another piece of exercise equipment to potentially gather dust...
I'm tempted
Any way, swimming on Friday night.

Shall be have more accountability and post food diaries?

OP posts:
mama2005 · 23/08/2018 09:24

I am still here Ruby and glitter! Have slipped too over holidays and lack of routine etc. But not giving up - can't weigh in till back from hols, but am here.

mama2005 · 23/08/2018 09:26

And hope gcse results are what was hoped for glitter.

RubySlippers77 · 23/08/2018 09:46

Thanks glitter and mama Smile

I'm hoping to persuade DP that we can spend £50 on a running buggy, that would help me get moving more and let's face it, is much less than he spends on a single night out!! I'd love to get a treadmill/ exercise bike but we just don't have the room Sad

If the DC have a nap today then I'm going to have a look at menu planning, it would really help if I knew what we were having each day, but it's not something I've ever been good at... I'm so flipping tired and achey at the moment that it's hard to get my head round anything! Trying to get a doctors appointment as I think I may be anaemic again (lost lots of blood giving birth and still haven't fully recovered three years on!) but realistically won't be able to till September.

Good luck for results day glitter!! I remember mine even though it was many, many years ago!

fezzesarecool · 23/08/2018 11:01

glitterbiscuits I’ve started the c25K while I’m away 😫 It’s not that bad.

I found somewhere discreet to do it and figured better to try it out away from people I know.

I’m hoping to start week 4 run 1 when I’m here as that’s a 5 minute jog so serious shit 🤣

WhetherI carry on at home I don’t know. I can’t say I’m passionate about it like some people are but I’m pleased that back in March I couldn’t go up the stairs without being winded and I can currently jog 3 minutes non stop now.

If I do it at home I have to think about somewhere discreet I can do it.

Either way I was 14st before holiday, who knows what I’ll weigh in as next but around 4 stone to go still so I’ll be getting back on it properly when I get home.

fezzesarecool · 23/08/2018 21:50

Holiday accountability (so that I’m not too shocked at a gain on my post holiday weigh in)

Over 16 days
1 Diet Coke
Chip shop x 3
Burger King x 2
Ready salted crisps x 5
White bread x 6
Chocolate x 3
Restaurant x 1

Hopefully damaged controlled by 1,200 calories on all but 4 day’s and 9 runs of c25K (maybe get a start on week 4 tomorrow) and a 24 hour stomach bug. I haven’t drunk nearly enough water either.

Ho hum, going to be interesting and I’ve had a great time.

Home on Saturday night and if I’m very good I’ll resist weighing in till Sunday morning at least but midweek would be better.

(Posted on the other thread too but inspired by the food diary idea on here)

RubySlippers77 · 24/08/2018 14:43

Fezzes, I am in awe of your running!! Seriously, a big well done to you - like you say, massive progress from when you first started Grin I tried to take the DC out this morning with our single buggy - the idea being I run with one, the other races us to keep up - nope, they were both in a lazy mood and just squabbled to be the one in the buggy!

Struggling here, still feeling like poo really. Aching all over, getting tired easily, just looking for easy comfort food (and preferably someone to cook it for me!). It's probably a vicious circle - I feel rubbish, so I eat rubbish, so I feel more rubbish etc - but I need to get to the GP just to check my anaemia hasn't returned. AF is getting ever heavier which doesn't help, been reading up on the perimenopause as that's what it sounds like, but then if it is I don't think there's much that can be done Sad

All in all I am on countdown till the DC go back to preschool, I can feel more productive and the house won't be as much of a tip!

fezzesarecool · 24/08/2018 15:16

RubySlippers77 Thanks, I haven’t got a love for running but it’s just been something to try out on holiday as I knew I couldn’t do my DVDs in a small space with the kids.

It’s nice seeing that I’m better at it than I thought I would be and definitely something to do if at home I end up busy during the day time.

I really want to find my thing. I mean some people love to go on hikes/bike rides/team sports. So for maintenance I want to have a thing too. I think I will struggle to keep the exercise up for exercise sake later on and I’ve no idea about maintenance calories and don’t think I could work to a time table of doing X 4 times a week.

At the minute it would be because I’ve done X today then I can eat up to X amount of calories.

If I had a thing I could average out the calories against that every week for a daily intake.

So a dance class in September is next on the trying out list. Along with the 30 shred which is another thing I said I’d never do. I’m enjoying just seeing that I have a general fitness level now.

With the running I’m really not sure and I know the weather etc will put me off as I’ve not got a burning desire to do it and I can’t see wanting to progress much as in doing a race or whatever.

Shame I can’t have a treadmill! The other thing is while I’m over people seeing me I’m not sure about doing it at home as although I feel that people would be supportive I don’t want the comments as oh didn’t see you running recently/how’s it going etc.

I’d love to hear about any activities people do/plans for maintenance.

Sorry to hear about the loss of mojo. I would allow it. Eat your comfort food but with control, within calories or within your diet plan. So one ‘bad’ meal but 2 ‘good’ meals that day. For me I need to do that once when I feel it and I think knowing that I can as in no good is banned helps to get back on it after. At the end of the day we’re not in a race and it’s a long journey. The important thing is the consistency and it’s a lifestyle change.

RubySlippers77 · 24/08/2018 22:53

That struck a chord with me fezzes, wanting to find 'your thing'. Mine was always the gym and aerobics/ zumba type classes - really enjoyed it - running I liked when I could run somewhere nice and take my time, never got fit enough to want to improve/ join a race! I hated all sport at school but of course it was all team sports such as hockey, netball etc and I was rubbish Sad then of course once you get discouraged it's hard to give it a go again. I think I like gym/ classes because you're on your own but can chat to the people there should you want to..... that's what appeals to me about Parkrun too, go at your own pace but there's plenty of people in the same boat.

When I had my gym/ exercise routine (pre-DC!) it was easy enough, I was used to what I did and upped it if I knew I was going to eat more. Now I'm stuck at home most of the time and eat because I'm tired/ bored/ the DC don't care what I look like etc. If only my organisation and productivity mojo would return! At the moment I simply don't have the energy to get out more.

Oh I did enjoy the 30 day Shred too, but don't get half an hour free every day now to do it!!

I'm considering suggesting to DP that we make a real effort come September (when preschool is back and I have a bit more time) as he'll have another prediabetes appointment soon. Cut down/ out goodies, up the exercise etc. Not sure if he'll go for it though as he can be a big drinker and is currently moaning all the time about his bad ankle/ knee/ toe or whatever today's latest issue is. I made him a doctor's appointment for first thing tomorrow morning though, maybe they will do a bit of straight talking to him and tell him he needs to reduce his weight?!

fezzesarecool · 25/08/2018 00:05

RubySlippers77 I’m in the same boat with the kids so started off with the exercise videos as my main routine, and now doing the c25K etc as the routine’s our the window My 21 month old loves watching and joining in with them

Clubercise has been good too during the summer especially as it’s pay as you go, maybe worth a look as good when you have a day when you have more energy

What’s the 30 day shred like? I’ve got a wedding at the end of September and while I’m not expecting to drop lots of weight by then I wondered if the 30 day shred would be worth doing as the after pictures look great? Then I could do the shred every so often to help reduce loose skin (started at 20st so will definitely be having some by the end of this)

With my oh I didn’t tell him anything at first. I just started exercising and that had a knock on affect to my diet. So I just said that this was what I was eating and he joined in having the same dinners as me. Then I think he must have seen a weight loss as he then wanted to exercise. His thing is the Xbox so he does a fitness game on there or any movement game when he doesn’t do the fitness. He also chooses to walk instead of taking the car on short distances. Again he must have seen good results as then he started to use mfp like me and he’s now lost at least 2 stone in 4 months, gone from a xxxl to a xl and has said he’s seen good changes in himself.

For me I was a bit selfish and I was doing this either way, for me. If he wanted to join in he was more than welcomed to but I wasn’t going to go on at him/let it affect me. Even now we just chat about calories we can have for dinner and when we’ve had a good weigh in we say but we give each other the privacy we need to do this and we find the best way of supporting each other is just making sure the other has the time to do what we need to do but we don’t really talk about it. We are talking about a holiday abroad next year as our reward.

Lol although I do know he’s on 2000 calories while I’m now in 1200! Bastard

You know your oh best and what would work for you both to support each other.

RubySlippers77 · 25/08/2018 23:47

My DP does sometimes have a 'you don't support me losing weight' moment, when he says 'we could do this together' etc..... but if he doesn't feel that what I'm feeding him is enough, he'll just go and buy chocolate/ crisps rather than snacking on all the fruit I buy Hmm

I'm well aware that I need to lose a good couple of stone too and get myself in hand. Just so hungry at the moment! Hopefully a GP appointment to rule out any obvious causes (thyroid, anaemia etc) will set me on the right track.

The Shred is ace Grin honestly it is hard work, but that's the point - Jillian does say that you can't expect a 20 minute workout to do any good if you don't feel like it's having any effect! My stomach muscles are awful though since having the DC, it hurts to do any sort of sit up. My DC get very impatient if I do anything like that, no way would they join in! Outdoor activities are much better for getting them involved, I'm hoping to pass on an energetic lifestyle so they don't get into the pickle DP and I are in.....

Some good advice there fezzes, thank you! I just need to get my arse back into gear!! I know you said you couldn't get a treadmill, how about an exercise bike or stepper - both of those you can get cheaply via ebay?

RubySlippers77 · 28/08/2018 23:22

Did everyone have a good bank holiday?

I'm really struggling with my energy levels - I think part of it is the loooong six week holidays but part of it is due to very heavy AF and/ or post viral fatigue syndrome - the virus I had earlier this year is still lingering! Just have no motivation to get my (fat) arse into gear and start eating healthily when all I feel like doing is eating cake and sleeping.....

I'm sort of hanging in. I've been really ill. It looks like I have interstitial cystitis which is basically an inflamed bladder. Ow ow ow!
But I'm having scans for my kidneys and a blood test for overran cancer. I don't think it's that as I don't have any non bladder symptoms. It's possibly connected to peri menopause.

13 weeks until Christmas . That's a potential 2 stones off.
Anyone want to come back and make me feel better?

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 24/09/2018 00:23

Hello again glitter!

Sorry things have been so ouchy for you. I had kidney scans a few years back to work out why I got so many kidney infections; turns out one of my kidneys is scarred and twisted, but whether that was from having the infections or that's what caused them in the first place, we don't know. But, better to rule out any other issues if you can have more tests, especially if you keep getting pain - I have to keep antibiotics on standby in case I get another infection and can't get to a GP quickly.

I doubt I'll be getting 2 stones off by Christmas though as I'm having tests of my own for excessive tiredness due to blood loss - my periods are ridiculously heavy at the moment, which I did wonder if it could be due to peri menopause! Isn't it great being female sometimes?!

ChippyTea16 · 21/10/2018 09:13

How is everyone getting on? Been following the thread throughout the year and everyone has been doing really well. 9 weeks till Xmas, I havent managed to lose any weight this year (I want to lose 3.5 stone and have gained and lost about 10lbs this year). But I’ve been doing lots of exercise so I feel better, just annoying the scales never go down!

Hope everyone is doing well!
