Anyone up for a current thread? I've had a good search and couldn't find anything recent!

I've got the book/cd and am downloading the app too. I'll start tonight.

I've never done this kind of thing before but am very open to it working :)

OP posts:

Hi all

Mind if I join?

I've been on various diets over the years and have fallen into the 'all or nothing' deprivation/binge cycle.

I really need to reset the way I think about food so this sounds like a good place to start. Currently reading the book and it makes a lot of sense.

ppeatfruit · 09/03/2018 09:19

Hi all newbies Grin Foof the OP hasn't been around for a bit, are you ok Foof ?? Is it ok if I welcome them?

Solo Are you there?

Newbies You've found the answer to weight loss, congratulations!!!

Sorry if I sound like I'm on commission I'm not !! I've just been on this for years and it's for life for me!

WhiskyandRed · 09/03/2018 18:18

Thanks for the welcome ppeatfruit!
So I just weighed myself and I seem to be half a stone lighter! (Last time I weighed myself I was half a stone heavier than I expected though so I think it’s just a bit of a blip with the scales.) But still I feel so much more in control, and happier too. Definitely a convert even after only 4 days!

Wetdogloveshubert · 09/03/2018 21:02

Well I'm 12 days in and have somehow dropped 9lbs. WTF? Even if the loss slows massively I am thrilled. I'm eating more slowly, I've not grazed since listening to the cd and am actually only eating when I'm hungry. Well done @whiskyandred !

gigi556 · 09/03/2018 21:34

Oh, I haven't weighed myself but now I'm tempted!

I'm not actually that bothered about the number on the scale. I just want to cut back on my portion sizes, eat slower, be more mindful, etc. I'm finding it harder than I thought I would!

I am trying to put down my utensils and take sips of water between bites. Also, if I'm feeding my son (9 months) while I eat as well it also slows me down. One bite for him... Then one bite for me... lol.

I did think the OP and others had gone a bit quiet and wondered if they had given up.

I really don't think I'm doing it consistently to have made a difference in the span of a week, but I'm going to keep trying. Like that I've got support here :)

WhiskyandRed · 09/03/2018 22:02

That’s amazing wetdog! 9lb! Well done you. You give me hope.

But I agree gigi I don’t want to get hung up on the scales. I’m more interested in making a permanent change and just starting to feel in control. I’m definitely starting to feel that now and I just know I’ve got to keep going with it.

ppeatfruit · 10/03/2018 08:55

That's brilliant news all of you ! Flowers

I don't weigh, our scales are broken anyway! I go by my clothes (after I lost the original 3 stone I threw out all my larger clothes, or had the expensive designer 2nd hand ones Grin taken in, I like to wear tighter things now so it's easy to feel if they're getting smaller!!) I also like to keep an eye on my belly ,sideways, in a full length mirror!

Snowyhere2018 · 10/03/2018 12:48

May I join?

I have downloaded the app but don't have the book or CD. Do I need them?

I really want to lose this weight. Sad

WhiskyandRed · 10/03/2018 17:33

The app is all you need. There are 2 sessions per day - a short one in the morning 2-3 mins usually, and then the 23 minute hypnosis at bedtime.

For so little time, effort, and money it’s amazing how effective this is. Chocolate seems to have lost its hold over me! My husband really hates ‘having Paul in bed with us’ at night though Hmm

Wetdogloveshubert · 10/03/2018 20:27

The way you feel is far more important - and this is what the CD / app is so helpful with. It's constantly reinforcing that you are enough, you can make the right choices, and you will be relaxed about it. Keep at it!

DottyDotts · 11/03/2018 00:54

Snow and Whisky actually the book is an important part of this process. You can learn mindful eating from the books alone and it helps you to understand how diets cause overeating and that relearning to eat like a non dieter is a process. The hypnosis cds and apps are wonderful but if you read the books you can always do it yourself without the hypnosis.

ppeatfruit · 11/03/2018 09:27

Yes I totally agree about the book Dotty and the diary is interesting, it has very encouraging photos of people some of whom have literally lost 10 stone on the PM way of eating!

I've lost the book and can't remember if they are separate or is the diary at the back of the book?

I remember most of it though. The DVDs are good too.

WhiskyandRed · 12/03/2018 07:53

I’m on day 7 and now starting to feel nervous. What happens now? There are a further 14 days of reinforcing on the app, but will that be enough? Can I keep up this magic new attitude after the 7 days?

ppeatfruit · 12/03/2018 09:37

Whisky Of course you can!! You've been doing very well so far; are your clothes feeling looser?

You can reinforce it by listening to the hypnosis CD, it works well.

Oh and if you have a glitch you just start again; being aware of how your body shows its signs of hunger before the next time you eat.

Snowyhere2018 · 12/03/2018 12:06

Right, I have started. Well, I watched the first video whilst mindlessly eating an almond croissant Shock. Anyway, onwards and upwards. So all I need do is eat when hungry, eat mindfully, stop when full. I can do this surely.

ppeatfruit · 12/03/2018 13:20

Yes of course you can do it! Welcome Snowy (I hope Foof doesn't mind me welcoming people on this thread).

The mindful eating, needs to be accompanied by slow, chewing and enjoyment and real tasting of your food. So it's easier to start with when you're eating 'proper' food! IYSWIM.

gigi556 · 12/03/2018 14:12

I'm finding it more difficult than I thought it would be but I know it's a lifestyle change and I can always try the next time I eat if I don't do it properly. I have a 9 month old so I try to feed him a bite and when me and so own so that I slow down but sometimes he's fussing and I have to just finish so I can get him out of the high chair and on to something else!

ppeatfruit · 13/03/2018 09:02

Yes it's difficult to be mindful when you've got someone else to think about, esp. a baby! I suppose you just do it when you can.

It's great to just change your attitude to eating (not standing up and throwing it down your neck) or if you do that sometimes at least you're aware of it!!

ClashCityRocker · 13/03/2018 09:08

I'm shocked at how much I'm struggling to just eat without distractions.

At my desk yesterday I found my hand kept reaching for the mouse to go on the Internet for a browse whilst having lunch.

It makes me think he really does have a point - I spent ages thinking about what I wanted for lunch yesterday and when I had it, I wanted to do something else rather than enjoy it.

ppeatfruit · 13/03/2018 09:20

That's true Clash When I first started I found I was not only eating less but actually disliking the food when I was full! It works well!

If I hadn't gone off it I would say to myself (or think to myself if I was with people) ! "Just put it in the fridge and have it later."

I still have a homemade pudding and custard as a whole meal sometimes!!

DottyDotts · 13/03/2018 16:46

Whisky do get the book and CDs. Then you have your "bible" for mindful eating always to hand. You don't need to rely on a 7 Day app thingy. It's all there in the book

MarmaladeTeepee · 15/03/2018 17:55

Hi all, mind if I join? I discovered PM back in 2008 and it worked brilliantly, but after a rough couple of years (and lots of emotional eating) I'm now 3 stone heavier. I feel in a much better place now though and I'm ready to re-commit. Going to have a flick through the book tonight and listen to the cd before bed ready to start tomorrow.

For those who have issues with cravings/emotional eating I remember posting on one of the old threads about how fantastic the tapping technique was. I can't for the life of me remember it now, but I definitely need to re-learn it as this is my main problem and I can remember being amazed at how well it worked out last time around.

gigi556 · 15/03/2018 18:25

@MarmaladeTeepee welcome to the group!

I think it was @DottyDotts that suggested putting "havening technique" into YouTube. Loads of videos with the tapping technique come up :)

MarmaladeTeepee · 15/03/2018 19:16

Thanks gigi I'll definitely look them up, thanks for the tip.

I'm about to order a size 12 swimsuit for my holidays in July (I'm currently a 16) not sure if this is unrealistic, but I'm hoping it will be a visual reminder and spur me on. I couldn't give a monkey's what the scales say, I just know I'm at my most comfortable when I'm a 12 and this seems to be my 'natural size'. Feeling v excited for tomorrow and getting back on it!

DottyDotts · 15/03/2018 23:35

Yes it was me who suggested "havening " technique Smile Welcome Marmalade
