The Not So New Mums. Our kids are getting bigger. Christmas weight loss thread. (Edited by MNHQ)

It’s been 6 years since the first New Mums thread but this year will be the one where we get skinny for Christmas!

We’ve tried pretty much every diet going and have supported each other through the good times and the bad. This will be our year, motivation is high and panic has set in.

pom wow that's amazing loss. How long is that over. I'm inspired by your determination. Your purchases sound great to. I didn't but anything on Black Friday. I still have a few more Christmas presents to get. Plus I don't want to buy anything when I'm feeling so big. When is your xmas party?

green thanks for my package, I love the mascara. Are you putting the tree up after the cabinet is in place?

sol have you avoid the tummy bug? It's awful when the kids are unwell. Did you buy anything for Black Friday?

I've decided to stop worrying myself about dieting till the new year. I have too many social engagements coming up. And tbh I'm fed up with worrying about it. In the new year I'm going to really focus on it. That would give me about 9 months to lose weight for my wedding.

Struggling what to buy the kids. We have so far
Electronic set ds1
Lego construction ds1
Lego 3 in 1 dinosaur ds2
Melissa and Doug puzzles ds2
Hot wheels - joint

Do we just leave it at that then take them to lego land or something? As they will also be getting stuff from family

That’s really good Pom. 2018 will definitely be the year!

You’re welcome Rachey. I’d forgot to message you. (The MAC mascara was also unused, I’d tried the bronzer on my hand)

Have you booked your wedding? Probably best just to focus after Christmas. How exciting.

The present list looks great.
Speaking from past experience I wouldn’t buy anything else.(Or maybe some books, colouring stuff or play dough)
I always buy too much. Then I forget that they get presents from lots of family members and it ends up being ridiculous. Plus the DC are overwhelmed and sometimes it takes weeks/months before they even play with some toys.

I spent part of this afternoon trying to sort a box of random toys out. The easiest to identify is the Lego/Duplo/Playmobil type of thing, I would stick to stuff like that! Legoland is a great idea.

I’m almost done with present shopping. No idea when the decorations will get put up. I think DH will finish the furniture at the weekend.

I’ll be back later.

I made a list of what I bought over the weekendShock. Most of it was Christmas gifts, so not too bad.
I bought myself a Smashbox eyeshadow palette. It’s all matte neutral shades and seems very nice. This was an impulse buy.
DD1 needed boots of school and Clarks outlet had some. So I saved some money on something we needed.
I had a White Company gift voucher so bought a home fragrance set, it arrived today and smells lovely.
I bought a bag from Boden. I think this will be my gift from the in laws (I buy my own present from them).
A necklace from Wolf and Moon for myself (I think this will be from my parents)
Ordered two pairs of leggings from Sainsbury’s. I needed those.
Amazon had some good deals on spirits so I bought my parents some fancy bottles.
Bought gifts for BIL and SIL.

Saw another picture of myself this week and again it made me cry. (I think it’s shock at how bad I look).
I'm making some changes for the rest of the year and will commit to it properly in the new year.
This week’s change is making sure I’ve prepared a meal (during the day) for the evening.
I’m going to lose 4 stone next year.

Racheyg · 04/12/2017 09:36

Guys, I'm so ashamed. I have put a stone on since June. It's been such a shock. I know I haven't eaten that well but I'm exercising all the time. It just goes to show it is 80% food.

Next year I'm joining weight watchers. At least your not depriving yourself. It's just in moderation. I think I need to go out of the starve and binge cycle.

Don’t feel bad Rachey. It’s not easy.
I feel the same about how much I’ve gained.

The new WW plan looks quite good, have you seen it? I’m tempted for the new year.

Hope everyone is well.

Don't be so hard on yourself rachey You really don't have much to lose and it is especially hard when you are working and have young DC. Your ww plan sounds good.
I'm feeling very optimistic for us all in 2018 Grin

Sorry you felt down too Green Photos can be very cruel.
Your purchases sound great. Which bag did you get from Boden?

I think you have got enough too Rachey It's hard not to buy loads though and I think I've got far too much again.

I am going to try and have a toy sort out this weekend, I will probably take them to the charity shop. Some of them ere very expensive and I feel really guilty and wasteful. They did enjoy playing with them though.

How are you Sol ? I hope all sickness has gone. How are you? How do your new decorations look?

I didn't weigh in as I had a very calorie heavy end of week. I am going to try and have a few fast days up until the week before Christmas.

I returned the Uggs, I did not love them enough for the ££.

Evening All,

Thanks for your messages of support, I guess I just have been keeping my head in the sand about my weight gain.

green how do you apply your eye shadow? I'm hopeless at make up. Have never known how to apply eye make up so I never buy the palates.

All your purchases sound great. I live the fact you get to buy your own presents Grin

pom yes I'm feeling positive for 2018 too. How's your xmas shopping going?

We have only got the boys a handful of presents then we have just brought a 2 night stay at peppa pig world nxt summe. They loved it so much that I though it would be great to go again esp as ds1 can go on most of the adult rides aswell.

sol how are you doing

Ohh just going underground will be back

How's the week going?

I think I have almost finished my shopping. Ordered a turkey crown last night and just need to order nibbles for Christmas Eve and Day in the evening. Have got Christmas pudding/mince pies/chocolates already. We normally have a Chinese (M&S selection) on New Years Eve. Might do tapas for Christmas Eve.

green how are you finding the Liberty calendar? I think mostly the lipstick isn't a colour I would wear.

What is everyone getting for Christmas?

Report
Greenrabbit · 09/12/2017 18:50

Hi everyone. Are you all having a good weekend?

Rachey lots of eyeshadow palettes have instructions on what shades to put where. Most days I use just a cream shadow (Kiko and Maybelline do good ones).
It might be useful looking at Youtube on how to apply properly. I usually apply an eyeshadow primer, then put a neural colour over the lid. I get a darker colour and put it in the crease. Then I put that colour over the lower lash line. I might add some liner or do a line in a darker eyeshadow colour on the upper lashes.
That probably makes no sense!

Peppa Pig World sounds great.

I think I’m almost done shopping too Pom. I’m really trying not to go overboard with the food.
Are you hosting for Christmas? We will be out for most of the day, I will make some things for Christmas dinner at my parents.

I think I’ve bought too many presents for the DC. I seem to have a cuddly toy addiction.

I like the calendar, I already had that lipstick. Have you tried it? It looks less pale on me (my lips are quite pink). The formula is nice for this weather (I got Peacemaker).
I had quite a lot of hair chopped off on Monday and the Aveda has been great, I might buy a full size of that.

The dieting is still not going well. I’m drinking too much wine. I had my first mince pie today.

Hi Green yes we are hosting. Although I feel a bit unorganised. I've at least ordered a Turkey crown. We also seem to be hosting on 2 other days (I will have a smile plastered on my face despite it not being my turn !).

I love that bag, I was tempted to get it myself. I've restrained myself Grin

I also seem to have a cuddly toy collection (I found a giant pink stitch on top of the wardrobe at the weekend that I had completely forgotten about).

I haven't tried the lipstick, I don't think it would suit my colouring (black hair and brown skin tone). I also don't think todays blush will suit me. Shame but I loved the make up bag yesterday and most of the other products.

How are you Sol and rachey ?

I am still trying to fast on 2 days but no further weight loss this week. Been a bit too social !

What style is your hair now?

Sorry for the disappearance. The kids were sick and now I have the flu. I’m so sick and my face is swollen because my tonsils are up. I look like a chipmunk.

You all sound very organised for Christmas. I’ve one more present to buy and then just some cash to put in envelopes. We’re hosting this year too, Im trying not to think about it now though 🙈

That bag is lovely Green. I’m loving how you buy all your own stuff, it must save a lot of disappointment on Christmas Day.

Rachey I know what you mean about head in the sand about weight gain. Are up going to go for the new weight watchers or the pro points system?

You are doing so well with your weight loss Pom, how much have you lost I’m total? You must be so proud of yourself.

I haven’t set foot on a scales. Work has been getting me down and I’ve been comfort eating. I applied for another job but I’m not sure I’ll get it but I can’t stay where I am, the atmosphere is toxic.

I really hope you feel better soon Sol. There are so many viruses going round at the moment. Are the DC any better. Look after yourself too. Work sounds rubbish, fingers crossed for a new job in 2018.
Have you looked at the new WW yet? I have some information if you need it.

I probably sound horrible about buying my presents. My DM and DMIL have been unwell and it’s a pain for them to go shopping this year. We have all gone past the point of surprise presents for adults though. It does mean less disappointment on the day. It would be easier not to bother at all really.

I almost bought the giant Stitch too Pom ( I believe it’s called Angel!). We do have the medium sized one.
I’ve bought yet another cuddly today after DD2 fell in love last night (remind me not to go to Fenwick’s toy department so close to Christmas with children next year)

The lipstick is quite pale on me and my skin is quite fair at the moment, it won’t suit me in summer. It’s a shame that they didn’t do a deeper shade that would suit more people.
I already have the blush, I like the colour but not the shimmer. The makeup bag is really pretty. I might just get the Liberty GWP next September and save the gift for advent. I am looking forward to the rest of the calendar though. It’s been a nice change from M&S.
I’m definitely over my makeup obsession though. I’ll be using stuff up and clearing out next year.

I got my hair cut to shoulder length. It’s quite blunt. I have a long/ outgrown fringe. It’s quicker to dry and looks thicker. I’ve just been running the straighteners through on a morning. Boring but practical.

I’m in awe of your fasting.
Are you taking much holiday time over Christmas?

How are you Rachey?

Thanks for the kind words Green. I went to the docs today and I have strep throat. I feel miserable, hence being up at 4 am.

I’m over presents for grown ups too. I feel your pain. I hate getting stuff that is either not to my taste or I know I won’t use. We don’t buy for adults on my side of the family but DH’s do. His sister sends a list of about 10 things she wants every year, and last year all we got was a feckin drawing she had done. I was fuming. We haven’t much money and she cost us a fortune 😡

I haven’t looked in to ww yet. I can’t bear the thought of food at the moment, it turns my stomach. I’m pretty much surviving on soup and diluted orange.

Do you get much taken off your hair? A good, easy to manage hairstyle is my dream, I bet it feels so good to run it through with a straighteners and know you look fab.

Right, I better go and try and get some sleep or there won’t be enough concealer in the world that will hide my dark circles.

Afternoon all,

I'm so sorry for my disappearance I kept starting a reply then got side tracked and never finished.

sol sorry to hear you are unwell, strep throat sounds awful. Wow did your dsil not realise what she was asking of you? we have a £50.00 budget on each person.

I know how you feel about work, I go through moments like that. Things will get better nxt year.

. green loving the sound of your new hair cut. I'm still trying to out grow my bob and it's taking forever. Glad your enjoying your advent calendar

pom I am very impressed with your weight loss and continued fasting. Have you had the chance to wear your new navy outfit for the party?

I have really ballooned these past few months I have put on 15lbs since June. Weight watchers have sent me some info in the post and I think I'm going to do the flexi plan. I need to really get my head down nxt year. I'm back up to a size 12 which I'm alittle disappointed about but hey ho.

My boss got me this bag for xmas

I'm off out tonight as I don't have work now till Jan whoop whoop.

I'm wearing this but I'm worried it clings to my tummy too much.

Just a quick post from me, I'll try and post later.

Hope everyone is having a good week. Fasting not going well, also not been running due to really stuffy cold. I had lost 12lb I think but I'd say I have put some back on, I'll avoid the scales until New Year....

Hope you are better Sol That's so cheeky re your SIL. I'd like to do a present per family thing, don't mean to be grinch like but there's so much waste at Christmas. I don't really need anything especially slippers
Did you get the toiletries?

Hair sounds great Green interested in liberty GWP, will look into that. I think it's a great idea to help people and get presents you like/want. I'm not buying anything else, I don't need to go to chops for anything apart from food now (I will try anyway!).

I liked the bag and your outfit rachey I have a really good feeling for next year. We are definitely going to do it Grin

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope you all had a peaceful and happy day.

We have been the house of illness. DH came down with a virus and the 2 kids have fallen ill too. We basically cancelled Christmas and just got through it all. It was dreadful. They all had such high temperatures they were delirious and I was having to change the kids beds and pj’s during the night as they were soaking through them with sweat. I think I avoided it because I was on antibiotics.

Did everyone’s day go ok? I hope you all got loads of lovely things.

My final weigh in before Christmas showed I’d lost 9lbs in December. Although I’ve probably put that all back on. I’m only eating the junk food we have but I won’t be buying anymore.

I think we’ll all have a good year this year. I found out yesterday that I got a new job that I had applied for back at the start of December, so I’m thrilled. It gives me an option to study and expand my qualifications so I’m really excited.

I just need to pick a diet and stick to it now. Any ideas? What are all of your plans?

Merry Christmas Sol.

I hope you are all taking it easy and on the road to recovery now.

Congratulations on your new job. A great way to start 2018.

Well done on the weight loss too.

I’m currently thinking hard about diets. I need to make some big changes.

I had quite a nice Christmas. Although I managed to fall off my front door step onto my drive on the afternoon (I hadn’t even had any alcohol). I was really shook up. I thought I’d just bashed my knees, but on Boxing Day I could barely walk because of muscle pain everywhere.

Starting to feel better now but I haven’t left the house so I’m feeling quite bored now. I’m looking forward to putting the decorations away and getting back to normality. (Bah Humbug)

I’m feeling very optimistic about 2018 though.

With regards to diets I’m considering calorie counting or the new Weight Watchers plan. Both have pros and cons. I need to accept that I have to be strict really.

Morning all,

sol congrats on the 9lb loss. I'm sorry to hear Christmas was full of sickness. Glad your all feeling better now. That's amazing news about your new job. What is the job?

Did you get any nice presents?

green wow that fall sounds awful, hope you are feeling better? Did you get any nice presents?

pom how was your Christmas?

Mine was a alcohol and food haze. Had a great Christmas Day but I got carried away with the alcohol so had the worst hangover on Boxing Day. It was worth it thou as we had such a great day. I'm just heading back from a few days in butlins with my parents and kids. The kids loved it.

I've just eaten terribly these past 5 months and I can really feel it, I reckon I have put on about 1 1/2 stone. I'm joining weight watchers on 2nd Jan and will weigh in on Saturdays. I'm undecided on the plan I will pick but the flexi looks good. I think getting weighed in a group will help me stop lying to myself about my weight.

Maybe we can all try weight watchers together? I ideally need any to lose 2stone. Is that possible in 9 months??

Oh Green, you poor thing. Were you badly bruised? How are you feeling now? I need to be strict too. I’m out of control and need to really work at it.

What was Butlins at Christmas like Rachey? I can imagine it’s super busy and I bet the kids had a great time. At least they would get to burn off some energy.

I’ll have a look at the weight watchers threads. I’m not familiar with any of their new plans. I weighed myself this morning and I’ve put on 5lbs. It was after breakfast though so I’m hoping most of it is from the toast and coffee. 🙈

How are you Pom? I got the cosmetics, thanks so much. I can’t wait to try them all. How was your Christmas?
