Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Well done for sticking within your calorie allowance today Firefly and on the advance planning!

I am starting again seriously tomorrow. Stupidly have been stuffing myself prior to start of diet - utterly ridiculous- but at least had more exercise than usual today.

Onwards and upwards everyone!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/09/2017 05:45

Hi
I commented on the first page but have name changed since then so will start again!

I am currently 11 stone 10 lbs. Ideally I would like to lose 2 stone but 1 stone by Christmas would be a good start.
Yesterday I ate:
B - hardboiled egg
L - pepperami and another hardboiled egg
D - grilled chicken breast with mixed salad

Katenka · 14/09/2017 06:06

Good morning

Yesterday was

No breakfast
Lunch - butternut squash, cheese, tomato puree and spices.
Dinner slow cooked pork and veg
Snacks some melon.

Weigh in tonight. Fingers crossed.

Firefries · 14/09/2017 06:23

I want to join too. I'm using MFP but have a question, how do you all stick to three meals a day? I just get so hungry if I'm up late.
My weigh in is 167.9 pounds or 11.9 stone. I want to drop to 152 pounds or 10.8 stones. I've been doing this a few weeks already and am trying to stick to the MFP and some exercise. I would like accountability. Hope you don't mind.

intelligentPutty · 14/09/2017 06:28

Love seeing all the food u are eating. Really giving me some motivation. Just in Starbucks and logging my skinny lattee.
Looking forwards to reading this fully later today to get some good lunch and dinner ideas. Xx

Movablefeast · 14/09/2017 06:50

So far so good, I meant to track but been very busy so I have been eating to the lifestyle plan I have been using through my health club/gym. Two workouts with cardio and weights on Mon and Wed. Will hopefully keep truckin', this thread is motivating me to stay on task.

Good luck all. Looking forward to our first weigh-in.

Movablefeast · 14/09/2017 06:54

For the record

B: Protein shake, chocolate with banana and peanut butter
Snack: Protein bar
L: Chicken breast and some kind of veggie made to look like pasta! Non-fat yogurt
D: Chicken and salad wrap and fruit salad.
Snack: Protein bar
Drinks: Water and herbal teas.

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 14/09/2017 06:58

Hi, I'm a little late to the party but wondered if i could join this thread - I'm on another but it's a slow mover and I need the motivation of regular posting.

I'm 5f7, starting weight 11st10, aiming for 10st10. Pretty active - been to the gym twice this week (everything hurts today after circuits yest).

Food today will be
B Greek yoghurt
L fruit salad with feta cheese, Apple
D homemade chicken nuggets and salad
Snacks oatcakes and hummus, almonds

Seeing a mate tonight. I may have a glass of wine...

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 14/09/2017 07:00

Ooh, should say I'm 11.8 this morning - 2lbs down since last week.

FireflyGirl · 14/09/2017 07:01

Morning everyone.

Thanks for the encouragement, Sandy, hope today gets off to a good start for you.

Emma that was my starting weight last year, plus a couple of pounds. You absolutely can do it! We will help you.

Fingers crossed for your weigh-in tonight. I'm not sure whether your butternut squash creation sounds genius or revolting Grin

Firefries it's not easy sticking to 3 meals, but I actually eat healthily at mealtimes and always have. My problem is snacking, (and portion size), so that's where I've concentrated. I eat fruit if I need something between meals, and keep myself busy otherwise.

In the evening, I have my treat to look forward to, and then I brush my teeth. I know I won't be bothered to brush them again if I eat anything else, so that helps keep me on track. Plus I have a 2 year old who's up between 6-6.30 every morning, so I don't stay up too late anyway.

Glad we're motivating you, putty. That was one of the main reasons I started the thread. Good luck for today.

Sorry, more posters whilst I was typing.

Glad we're motivating you, movable.

Welcome Keira, and well done on your 2lb loss this week! Enjoy your glass of wine tonight, if you choose to have one.

Katenka · 14/09/2017 07:08

fire wasnt easy at first. I cut doen snacks originally and changed the bad ones for better options.

The slowly cut them out.

The other thing i learned was not to be afraid of being hungry. Not talking about starving myself and not all the time.

Before, if i even got peckish I would eat. Never got anywhere near hungry. After time has gone on i have learnt that i dont have to eat the minute i feel the slightest bit hungry.

Now if i am hungry and its an hour before dinner, i am fine waiting. 6 months ago, i wasnt.

Frouby · 14/09/2017 08:10

Well I am 3lb down from Monday so gping the right way at least.

Just water weight I imagine but less water retention shows I am eating healthier.

Yesterdays food was a tuna salad sandwich in wholemeal bread and fishcake, oven chips and mushy peas for tea.

Tuesday was weetabix for lunch and braised beef, veg and horseraddish mash for tea.

Today will probably be soup for lunch and we are having thai curry with boiled rice for tea.

Non of it really diet food but definetly healthier than what I have been eating. I try and follow slimming worlds mantra of 1/3 of your plate as veg or salad. I don't count syns but do try for 1 heb and one hea a day too. I find it helps reduce calories and eat better.

Will start mfping when I stop losing just by making better choices.

HarrietBasset · 14/09/2017 09:08

Morning
Can I join please. I could use some motivation and accountability.

I started using mfp 3 weeks ago and have lost 4lbs so far.

My current weight is 11 stone 13 and I'm 5ft 6. Ideally I'd like to be around 10 stone 5lbs. I've not found the actual meal part two hard so far that I am a terrible snacker and often reward myself with food so that's definitely taking some adjusting to!

I'm starting to exercise more but have a back injury which is frustrating so it's more walking than running at the moment as I can't do anything high impact for a while.

Looking forward to shifting some pounds with you all

cakeaddict · 14/09/2017 09:22

I've been really good - 3 healthy meals, no snacks, tracking in MFP and consistently coming in under calorie allowance, and going to the gym - but the scales are failing to budge.

I feel better though, and it might be TOTM, so am going to keep on going instead of being disheartened and hope for some more progress soon...

Sandycarrots · 14/09/2017 10:16

Hello, just diving in and out to say, I've finally started!! Today is the day!

B two boiled eggs

peachybeachy · 14/09/2017 14:14

Because I'm finding the food lists really useful I'll post my food for today.
B, blueberry Wheats
L, 2egg scrambled with multigrain bread and 15 ml of ketchup
D, 300 cal ready meal, broccoli, carrot and beans
snacks will be a small KitKat and melon.

It's great to hear everyone being so upbeat and positive - we just ooze success x

HillaryWinshaw · 14/09/2017 14:47

Katenka I think that's really the key - not fearing or avoiding hunger. It's not a bad thing to be hungry, in fact if we eat so frequently that we never really allow ourselves to feel hunger, we lose the ability to distinguish between true hunger and emotional eating.

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 14/09/2017 17:16

Today

B - Wholemeal bagel
L - Mexican chicken salad
D - not yet decided but might skip and head to bed early as I'm shattered

Hoping for a good result on the scales

Firefries · 14/09/2017 17:25

Great advice, thanks Fireflygirl and Katenka.

eyeneedacoolnickname · 14/09/2017 20:38

Sounds like everyone is doing really well! Also loving the food posts as it's a bit of inspiration, as I find it hard to think of meals.
Only 2 more days for me until weigh in, fingers crossed for a loss.
Today's eats have been;
B- porridge
L- ham salad
D-slimming world burger and chips
All tracked on MFP, will also have a wee biscuit or something shortly with a cuppa.

Has anyone ordered meals to be delivered? There is a company local to me who delivers 5 days of healthy meals and snacks and the reviews have been good with 4-6lb losses! Thought it was worth a punt for a boost in weight loss if it works (can't afford it every week unfortunately), getting a delivery on Sunday so will let you all know next week.

Sandycarrots · 14/09/2017 20:51

Survived first day, surprised because I didn't feel hungry and the walnuts were filling:

B two boiled eggs, black tea
S a tiny handful walnuts
L--------
S apple
D sweet potato, tom & chick pea curry, tiny portion rice, cauliflower, 1 plain Marie biscuit

Also made sure just to have one serving at dinner (I have been in the habit of having seconds and sometimes thirds occasionally Blush)

Itsgoodforthegarden · 14/09/2017 21:11

I'll join you!!
Staring tomorrow Grin

FireflyGirl · 14/09/2017 21:16

Katenka and Hillary you are right about being actually hungry, rather than eating at the first sign.

Congratulations Frouby, that's a great loss. And encouraging for the rest of us. I don't eat 'diet food', I just eat sensible portions of whatever I fancy.

Welcome Harriet, and well done on the loss so far.

Cake when I did this last year, I didn't lose anything at all in my first week. I know how you feel, but stick with it, it will happen!

Sandy well done today. I found last year that the portions I had been serving myself were too large. I cut them by at least a third, and never found myself hungry afterwards. I was serving myself the same as 6foot DH!

That's why I post mine, peachy. They're good for keeping track, but also to get other ideas.

When are you weighing in, Hopefully?

That sounds interesting, Eyeneed. I've heard of something similar, but we have allergies so it's easier for me to just make everything myself. I'd be wary of expecting a 4-6lb loss just by eating healthy for 5 days though.

See you tomorrow, itsgood Grin

B: crumpets with cream cheese. It was these or toast, but DH and DS really like the seeded bread, so that's what I buy. It's as many calories for 1 slice of that as for 2 crumpets Shock
L: bread and hummus, and an apple. This was supposed to be a snack when DS had his lunch, but then I had unexpected visitors so I didn't manage to have anything else.
D: gyros with rice and salad
S: cereal bar, mini eggs

Under my calorie allowance for today. I'm trying to keep some in reserve for Saturday, as no matter how good I try to be, I don't know how many calories are going to be in my meal. Then weigh in Sunday morning. I've lost at least a pound already on my scales at home, so it'll be interesting to see what the official scales say.

OP posts:
eyeneedacoolnickname · 14/09/2017 21:31

Firefly I would be happy with 3lb lol! In all seriousness I'm not expecting big things as I have already been dieting and I tend to only get a decent loss at the start, however the lure of not thinking about what I am eating for the next week strongly appeals!

Portion control is something I'm trying to improve, as a former SW follower I'm used to big portions with the "eat as much free/speed as you like" mentality..... however I am slowly learning to reduce my portions.

Does anyone else snack? I find at night around now, I fancy a cuppa and a biscuit which I do have as it's within my calories but not sure if I should be trying to cut this out? Or reducing to 2/3 nights a week, to reduce my sugar intake, what's people's thoughts, any other sweet tooth snackers around?
