Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Eyeneed I've had similar issues to you, because of SW. It just wasn't the right way for me.

I certainly can understand the allure of just eating healthy food provided by someone else!

You'll probably notice from my food diaries I have some form of chocolate every day. I save this for after my tea and look forward to it all day. It helps me keep on track. If you're having your treat and still losing, then I don't see that it's doing any harm, although I'm not a doctor Smile

I Have a terrible sweet tooth and usually have something sweet in the evening so long as I have the calories left in my allowance. I feel very deprived if I try to cut it out and am probably more likely to binge.
My best find has been alpro almond dark chocolate milk. Its 46 calories per 100ml and tastes as good as a proper hot chocolate. Really creamy. I can't stand highlights or options so this has been great when I've fancied something sweet. Usually accompanied by digestive chocolate thins at 33 calories per biscuit

SDaddy007 · 14/09/2017 22:08

Walk 10,000 steps a day, every day, for the next 14 weeks. It's that easy.

eyeneedacoolnickname · 14/09/2017 22:23

Firefly & Harriet glad I'm not the only one with a sweet tooth! And yes I do feel deprived if I don't have something sweet each day. I suppose unless it starts sffomy weight loss then maybe I won't worry for now!
I do love those thins and the Alpro chocolate milk, might get some of that at the weekend for a change.

Katenka · 15/09/2017 06:28

Ok so i got weighed yesterday at SW and lost 7.5lb Shock

Which sounds amazing. But last week at weigh in, I had been away the weekend before. While i wasnt really on point with diet, i didnt eat tons and put on 5lb. I think it was because i ate foods that bloat me and then was due on. I also didnt go to the loo (sorry tmi) for a few days. So not a real 5lb of fat.

So i am treating it as 2.5lb towards my stone for christmas. But its a good start.

Yesterday was

No breakfast

Lunch was home made chicken and veg soup

Dinner was slow cooked pork and veg again.

Snacks some aldi fruit and nut. Which was lush.

I am out for dinner tonight so will try and make some good choices.

HoneywithLemon · 15/09/2017 06:40

Marking my place. I am 50 in April and I'm the heaviest I've ever beenConfused. I have used MFP with success before. I would also like to try to go low GI as much as possible as I think I might have problems with insulin resistance (polycystic ovaries diagnosis in the past and family history of type 2 diabetes. I dare not weigh myself but I must! Will report back later....

intelligentPutty · 15/09/2017 07:24

Morning all.
Yesterday was relatively good day.
Breakfast = Starbucks (Skinny Latte)
Lunch = Salmon Salad from the co-op
Dinner - Half a Cheese & tomato pizza from lidl with a blob of mayo
! large glass of wine..

just a tiny bit over the 1200 limit.

Bought lots of those snack bites from LIdl on way home too (the snack cucumber, peppers and tomatoes) but left them in the fridge.
Will be good for tonight if I get peckish! ;-)

eyeneedacoolnickname · 15/09/2017 07:27

Morning all, checking in with today's meals-
B- Bacon roll on while meal bread
L- Ham salad
D-Slimming world burger and chips (same as last night)
Snacks will be a melon snack pot and something tasty later (all within calories)

katenka well done, 7.5lb is great and you still gained it and it still came off iyswim?

ducksauce · 15/09/2017 07:28

Morning, can I join too? I need a way to keep myself on track!

Started SW online few weeks back and lost half a stone but have put that back on now and yesterday I ripped my last pair of jeans so definitely need to do something differently!!

Currently 13.8 and 5ft4 I weigh on a Thursday usually.

My job is usually semi active but at the moment I'm working on a project that means I'm either in a meeting room or in the car ....too much snacking!!

Ideally I'd like to be 10st7 so a long way to go but the first stone would make a big difference!!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/09/2017 08:55

Weighed myself this morning and am 11:8 which is apparently 5lbs down on my weight on monday morning. But I think that weight was artificially high.

My aim is to be down to 11 stone by my birthday in early November and them push for the last few pounds to go before Christmas. Although I know that will be more of a challenge with Christmas events coming up.

Sandycarrots · 15/09/2017 09:40

Firefly I also have a 6ft+ dh and was eating (nearly) the same portions as him and he is overweight too! Thank you but I must confess that I don't deserve your "well done" after all. Logged yesterday's food properly on MFP (too tired last night to do all of it) and remembered some extras and I am 127 calories over which is disappointing. Who knew that white rice was so calorific? I only had a very small portion. Heigh ho. I'll take it as a learning experience and try and do better today!

About the choc - my doctor actually recommended a tiny square of very dark very good quality choc per day - apparently it has lots of health benefits.

Well done to those who have achieved weight losses and waves to fellow newcomers!

HarrietBasset · 15/09/2017 11:19

Today's meals

B - Greek yogurt with granola and berries
L - Two poached eggs on sourdough toast
D - Home made chilli with 5% fat mince on not very much of wholegrain rice

A treat after the kids are in bed. Probably some chocolate or popcorn. 5000 steps so far today. Away at the weekend though so it might all go to sh#t!

ABitOfACyclePath · 15/09/2017 12:27

I'm a bit late to the party but hoping it's ok for me to join. I'll weigh in on Fridays.

Start weight today: 13st 7.6lbs

To be 12st 7lbs at Christmas would be amazing! I'm feeling motivated let's do this Grin

DontYouDare · 15/09/2017 13:03

Today's meals

B - Greek yoghurt, banana, orange, melon. 2 cups of tea.

L - 2 slices of peppered ham, salad, 2 boiled eggs.

D - Roast chicken dinner.

HillaryWinshaw · 15/09/2017 16:28

I weighed myself and appear to be down 3.6lbs since Monday, but I'm trying not to get too excited in case I lose my mojo over the weekend ("If I've lost 3.6lbs in 4 days, I can afford to eat a pizza. Or ten") is often the first way I derail myself...

Movablefeast · 15/09/2017 17:09

Yesterday's meals:

B: Protein chocolate shake with blended peanut butter and banana
L: Grilled chicken and fruit salad
Snacks: Protein bar, yogurt
D: Salmon cake, asparagus and salad
Snacks: Navel orange and protein bar
Drinks: water and herbal tea, small amount of OJ

FireflyGirl · 15/09/2017 22:09

Quick one tonight.

B: shreddies with almond milk, cereal bar
L: Falafel salad, rice crisps and an apple
D: chicken tacos
S: some nuts, and mini eggs.

Within my calories today, but only just. I have been starving all day! Been hard work to resist stuffing my face.

Sandycarrots · 15/09/2017 22:36

Such a busy day that I have barely had to register what I was eating but:

B two small lean ham brown bread sandwiches with scraping of butter
S two rice cakes and one thin slice gouda
L chicken, cous-cous, lettuce, broccoli, celery salad
S two rye crackers with scraping cream cheese
S small bowl of rice with tomato, courgette and red pepper sauce

Did succumb to six chocolate covered hazelnuts tonight though!

One tip: I have just discovered that if I take the dog for a walk immediately before dinner, I am less hungry and will eat less.

ducksauce · 15/09/2017 22:45

B - weetabix and cup of green tea
S - grapes
L - chicken, pasta, salad
S - banana and cup of green tea
D - jacket potato and bolognese with a cup of fruit tea and a 10 cal jelly for pudding

Had about 2 litres of water on top of my cups of tea as well!

eyeneedacoolnickname · 16/09/2017 08:32

Meal plan for today is

D- hole made southern fried chicken and salad
Will try not to snack.

........now off to the treadmill to run off last nights over indulging.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 16/09/2017 08:51

Arggghhh! It's been a bonkers few days involving lots of driving in very heavy traffic and I actually had to stop at a Burger King on Thursday evening because it was 8:30pm and I had to eat- I was still 40 minutes from home and had been trying to get home since 6. I had the chicken Royal without chips and a Coke Zero so I was actually still within my daly calorie allowance... until I then baked when I got in for the staff meeting yesterday and ate bits and bobs of raw mixture... hmmm

Yesterday was a bit of a write off as I ate cake. I also ate a spectacular amount of wine gums, again when driving. Sat on same section of A3 for about 30 minutes & it took. 2.5 hours to drive a 1 hour 10 drive. Anyhoo. Back on track.

Everyone here is doing so well so I need to take inspiration from you all.

424 Cals- Breakfast: low fat Greek yoghurt, chopped nectarine, 8 almonds, teaspoon of honey
150ml milk allowance for over the day

474 Cals- Lunch will be cous cous, feta, olives, cherry tomatoes & yellow pepper with a heap of little gem lettuce and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

400 Cals - Dinner is a fancy beetroot and pork sausage that was on offer the other day & green beans. I might have a little mashed potato but I'm feeling like a right bloater today so I'm keen to avoid too much in the way of carbs. I will be having a glass of wine though.

Other bits will be a homemade protein bar and some chickpea snacks- total of 268 Cals

Right. Best crack on with catching up on housework. Swimming for DD later and have loads of other things to do so I hope distraction will help today! Good luck everyone.
Oh and my weigh ins will begin next Friday, once I've bought scales. I weighed myself at the gym to get my starting weight!

YessicaHaircut · 16/09/2017 09:02

Morning all. I'd like to join you please! Started this week and will do Wednesday weigh in.
I'm 5ft4 and weigh 13.6. Down to a combination of quitting smoking, being on Sertraline (am tapering it now as don't feel the need for it any more Smile) and generally being too relaxed about junk food after losing weight for my wedding last May.
I've been using My Fitness Pal, cycling to work and back every day (4 mile round trip) and trying to get back into the habit of at least 3 classes per week (spinning, body pump and body balance).
Feeling motivated! Good luck everyone x

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 16/09/2017 09:15

Just a quick one to check in

Yesterday - had a relatively lavish breakfast as we went out, but no lunch to make iup for it. was under my cals for the day (just) so should be ok.

So far today I've had avo toast with poached egg and having a roast later (bit of a treat day).

Will probably weigh in on Monday 🤞🏼

Hope you're all getting on ok.

rheasmummy · 16/09/2017 09:29

Morning everyone,
Stumbled across this thread and would really like to join for motivation. Weighed in this morning 11st 10lbs (I'm a short arse at 5ft 1) Will have Friday mornings as weigh in day. Put on a load of weight after recent holiday and like most just haven't got back to my the good habits that I'd started prior to the holiday!
First day today going to use MFP but need the motivation of a thread to keep me on track! Am going to start a local running club next week (am a total beginner but you have to start somewhere)smile
Good luck everyone, we can do it!

Can anyone help me with the best healthy yoghurt to buy and the brand name?
All the low fat ones seem to be full of sweeteners
