Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

FireflyGirl · 10/09/2017 19:56

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Stifado sounds exciting,Katenka, what is it?

Its a beef stew with onions, tomatoes cinnamon and red wine vinegar. Dh is cypriot, its his favourite.

FireflyGirl · 12/09/2017 20:22

Mmm, that sounds lovely! I've added it to my 'to try' list for next time I have some time in the kitchen.

Welcome peachy, Tink, Hillary, Freckled, catley and Sandy. And a stone by Christmas is absolutely a sensible achievable goal!

Did you manage to get on the treadmill, eyeneed?

That's a great loss, iheart, well done! 1.5lb a week is great, that would give you a stone and a half by Christmas!

What did you end up having for your cravings, tunnocks?

Today I've had:
B: shreddies with almond milk and an apple
L: chicken salad, oatcakes with hummus
D: leftover cashew chicken. We were supposed to be going for tea with DMIL, and I'd planned how I would have tomato pasta as it was nice and healthy, and then DS decided he didn't want to nap so was a nightmare by teatime. There was no way I was taking him in public, so we just came home and I had leftovers for tea because we live in a tiny village and Tuesday is the takeaway family's night off.
S: some nuts, 4 mini eggs and 3 dinky Deckers. You'll probably notice I always have chocolate in my food diary, it's my treat after my dinner and helps stop me nibbling on it during the day.

Came in under my calories today, which I'm pleased with. Was a bit easier at work, too. Just need to get myself out of the habit of stuffing my face whilst I'm typing!

Can I join late please?

Had my first personal trainer session today so trying to kick start my attitude. Downloaded MFP and got on the scales for the first time in 8 years. I'm 16 stone, which is about what I expected - aiming for 10 by the time I get married (Easter 2019). I have a big family event in 3 weeks and I would like to have lost something (Enough for a visible difference).

HillaryWinshaw · 13/09/2017 01:56

I just had day two of the BSD. 800 calories a day Shock. Ok, I was closer to 900, but I also did a hard HIIT workout so I don't feel too hungry. I'd kill for a custard cream with my cup of tea though.

HillaryWinshaw · 13/09/2017 01:57

Don't feel too bad, that should read. Of course I'm hungry!

Katenka · 13/09/2017 06:02

Good morning!

Yesterday was

No breakfast
Lunch was jacket potato, beans and cheese from the work canteen
Dinner was home made cabonara. The traditional version, with no cream. Had a small amount of pasta and chicken with it.

Snacks were and apple and melon in the evening.

I dont normally eat many carbs but was craving them yesterday. Must be on account of AF. But still came in at just under my calorie count though.

I am going to try and calm down on the carbs today. Although i think i made fairly good carb choices yesterday, better than reaching for the chocolate etc.

Actually looking forward to getting weighed tomorrow. I do feel like i have lost something. Fingers crossed.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 13/09/2017 06:34

I made good food choices yesterday and went to the gym for an hour after work. However this evening I'm.meeting a friend after work for dinner. I'll have to be disciplined, especially as she is tiny but eats like a horse and will be very insistent on 3 courses!

Silvertap · 13/09/2017 06:34

Morning all.

Went for a short run last night after a bad day. Felt 10 times better!

Today is -
B - all bran with yoghurt & berries
L - veg soup and salad
T - turkey & veg chilli nachos

Schmoochypoos · 13/09/2017 06:48

I'd love to join in! I'm 5ft 1 and 9st 10. If love to be under 9st for Christmas.

Here's what I'm having today:

Porridge, raspberries and banana
Home made Soup and small piece of bread
Apple
Takeaway sushi for dinner

My weakness is finishing the kids leftovers and biscuits/cake etc. If I just say no to that and get out and do a bit of walking I should be able to shift some pounds.

Penhacked · 13/09/2017 06:51

I'd like to join please. Been looking for a way to do it

eyeneedacoolnickname · 13/09/2017 07:21

fireflygirl I did get on the treadmill! First exercise in months and I managed 20 mins non stop facetiming my sister through it helped . Will have another go tonight I think.

Came in under calories yesterday (currently on around 1500 on MFP which says should give me a 1lb a week loss) which was good. The plan for today is ;
B- porridge
L- ham salad
D- salmon stir fry
Fruit for snacking if I need too.

We can definitely achieve a stone for Xmas!

ImperfectTents · 13/09/2017 08:16

Hi, I am generally rubbish at keeping up with long threads but I will try. I had a good fast day on tues but had a lot of stress yesterday and went on a complete binge. Another fast day today but it will be tough as I at home working in the kitchen. I finally worked up the courage to weigh myself and am 11' 2 or 70 kilos . Which is slightly less than I thought.

Good luck everyone

twobambinos · 13/09/2017 09:07

Yesterday not the best ever. Fresh start today. Going to go for a run soon before I meet my friend for breakfast will try make the healthy choice. Then I'm going to do the grocery shop and load up on fruit and veg.

Well done to the losers already.

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 13/09/2017 09:09

Hope everyone is getting on well.

I redownloaded my fitness pal yesterday and have come in under my cals so far. I set it to lose 1.5 pounds per week to give me a bit of wiggle room.

Today:

B - wholemeal bagel, some mango slices
L - subway turkey salad with baked crisps and diet drink
D - having sweet potato and coconut curry this eve

Snacks - tea, coconut water

Plugged my cals is and I have about 300 spare to play with - fingers crossed

Tinkhasflown · 13/09/2017 11:13

Yesterday went well for me. I'm following the sw plan. Meals are easy for me it's the treats I crave on the evening that are my downfall! Last night I just had an alpen light bar miraculously! Brunch was veg omelette and dinner was pasta and sauce with large side of broccoli and green beans.

JustTheWayYouAre · 13/09/2017 13:24

Schmoochy I throw leftovers straight in the bin, or squirt with washing up liquid before I can be tempted.

Xmasfairy86 · 13/09/2017 13:28

Weigh in....

🎉🎉 down 1lb! 🎉🎉

Not my best effort but better than a gain!

Today's food:
B - oats, vanilla muller and fruit
L - mackerel salad
D - pork casserole and rice
S - yogurt, Apple, crisps, there will probably be more but that's all that's consumed/planned so far!!

Well done all so far. Accountability is key!

peachybeachy · 13/09/2017 13:34

Today I'm having/had

Breakfast - dry fried egg on small slice of multigrain bread
Lunch - 4 Multigrain nairns crackers topped with 1 cheddar laughing cow, 2 slices of thin ham, loads of tomato and cucumber
Snack - 150g of melon
Dinner - 100g of beef in a stew with onion, mushroom, parsnip and instead of potato I'll do a carrot and swede mash.

I may have a small KitKat with tea at bedtime. comes to about 1200 calories. Walked my 10,000 and I've done 45 mins of active minutes.

Feel really hungry today though so not sure how long being strict will last..

stealtheatingtunnocks · 13/09/2017 13:57

Firefly for cravings I'm finding some cashew nuts and/or raspberries and blueberries work.

I'm not hungry, but, I am a nibbler. Like, a spoon in a jar of nutella kind of nibbler. The cashews/berries work because they are sweet and I feel sanctimonious for not eating the nutella.

Made lasagne for tea, kept some of the ragu back and made a fake béchamel with Soft cheese, plain yogurt and cheese. It's yum! So, I'll have that without the pasta, and lots of nice green veg.

Not done any exercise, though. Am absolutely snowed with work, which is no good as that is entirely at the computer just now. Hey ho. Still, no nutella! Yay!

Keep on keeping on, folks.

catley · 13/09/2017 16:16

Feel like day 1 has gone well. Been conscious of my calories but also making sure I'm only eating when truly hungry. I also walked 11 flights of stairs at work. Feel very motivated and really hope to keep feeling like this!
A little worried about birthdays and holidays in October though!!

Kikibanana86 · 13/09/2017 16:39

I'm 4lb lighter already in 3 days! All I've done is avoid fast food, bread and sweet things like chocolate, sweets, biscuits, desserts.

I've just come in my period too sim I'm expecting to drop a few more over the next week when it's gone as I'm always heavier just before and during.

Kikibanana86 · 13/09/2017 16:42

I've been eating a tomato pepper and egg thing with chorizo for breakfast. Sort of like that Mexican thing you have on a tortilla but without the tortilla!

Chicken rice and salad for lunch (different t dressings rubs)

Last night I made a chicken pie from scratch and had it with homemade chips and peas and the night before I made a chilli with rice x

twobambinos · 13/09/2017 17:07

Wow well done Kiki on your loss. I've no idea what that breakfast is though I'm imagining an omelette.

So far so good today went for a 5km run and met a friend for brunch after. Had tea scrambled egg and two slices of their home made brown bread. Waiting patietfor dinner now its beef stew with onions parsnips and carrots. Served with a huge side of green beans. Mash potatoes for DH only. I'm away all day tomorrow so all meals will be eaten out. Hopefully I can make some healthy choices.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 13/09/2017 17:25

Realised that I'd better start logging my food. I'm varying my calorie intake depending on activity level:

Up at 5:15am!- waffles made with oats, alpro yoghurt, 1 egg and cinnamon with more fat free yogurt and some homemade stewed plums
Cup of tea

am snack Banana and skinny flat white

Lunch- 3 rice cakes, 91 cal butternut squash soup, half a chicken breast
Half a bounty bar

pm snack - 50cal popcorn; 99 cal whitwortha shot, homemade protein bar (169cals)

Dinner will be hairy dieters lamb tagine with no added carbs but a salad instead

40 mins of brisk walking across the day!

FireflyGirl · 13/09/2017 21:46

Haven't got time to reply to everyone tonight, sorry.

B: shreddies with almond milk
L: chicken salad and oatcakes with hummus, small packet of crisps
D: chicken tacos
S: mini eggs

Within my calories again today, so I'm pleased with my progress so far.

I'm out for tea with work on Saturday, but I've been reviewing the menu and there are a couple of low calorie options so I'll pick one of those.
