Lose a stone for Christmas - 14lb in 14 weeks

I have struggled in the past to find the motivation to lose weight. I found it quite unexpectedly last November thanks to a 'lose a stone by Christmas' thread. However, I'm a slow loser and 8 weeks wasn't long enough for me to lose a stone. I managed it by the end of January, but then had a family bereavement and I've struggled to get back on track since. But I would really like to lose some more weight.

What helped me last year was the accountability of being on a thread. I controlled my calories using My Fitness Pal, but it was so helpful having other people to talk to who were having the same struggles.

So, if anyone would like to join me, I'd be grateful for some company. 14 pounds in 14 weeks takes us to 7 days before Christmas.

I weighed in this morning and I was 10 8.8. I will stick with a Sunday morning weigh-in as I take DS swimming so can use the scales there.

I plan to use MFP, cut out snacks and make good decisions on my meals to stay within my calorie allowance.

Could I join too please? Will post weight etc later.

Hello! I would love to lose a stone my Xmas. Currently too chicken to weigh myself but am guessing 11'4". Am 5'8" and feel best closer to the 10 stone mark. Have had a lot of stress and very sore back to blame for my greediness but am going to do 5:2 starting today. Good luck all

intelligentPutty · 11/09/2017 14:20

Hi. Would be great to join you all.
Really need somewhere to talk about the weight loss so this will be perfect.
And a stone before Christmas seems like something I can do !! (Fingers crossed )
Just need to stick at it.
Using MFP and weighing at about 11 stone 7. Will check on Wednesday morning. That's my weigh in day as it's a day off work. ;)

JustTheWayYouAre · 11/09/2017 14:26

Great thread - I started last week as have piled on the weight this summer. I have lost 4lb, but aiming from now on to lose 1lb a week. Weight this morning 10. 9.

Don't eat breakfast
Lunch chickpea and vegetable stew
Dinner Quorn cottage pie
Snacks strawberries

I use mfp to track calories, but have fewer calories on mon, tues, wed so aim for 8400 over the week.

Thinking of going back to sw but it seems to be more complicated since I did it 15 years ago - I also used to cheat and have extra syns instead of healthy extras which are all worth about 6 syns each.

If I'm successful I'm going to buy a lovely new dress for Christmas Day.

It's 14 weeks till Christmas?

Misses point of thread

Movablefeast · 11/09/2017 15:01

Thanks OP for starting this thread. I was 12.07 stone (169 lbs) in January 2017 and am currently 10.55 (147.7 lbs). I have been on and off lifestyle changes all year due to a house move but now go to the gym about 3 times a week when previously I had barely exercised for a decade.

Would love to lose a stone but my first goal is to get under 140lbs (10 stone) as it would be close to 12 years since I was that weight. I am just feeling so much better after losing 20 pounds and happy to be a lot more active.

I have plateaued and lost interest recently so need some motivation like this thread. I am 5' 5" and 147.7 my weigh in will be Monday morning.

Penguinbeaver · 11/09/2017 16:26

firefly thanks for that. Right I'm determined not to fall off this thread. I'll post stats tonight. Thanks

FireflyGirl · 11/09/2017 16:27

15, PomBear, but I figured nobody wants to be dieting in the week before Christmas Xmas Grin

There's too many people to say hi individually (yey!), so I'll just say a big hello, and kind of jump straight into logging. I'll try to do a recap at the end of the week, if I have time.

I'm in! I've lost over 2st since May, now 12.10 at 5'9". Would love to lose a stone before Christmas.

fishonabicycle · 11/09/2017 17:25

Just a quick question: why does everyone on mumsnet weigh in stones rather than kilos?

OuchBollocks · 11/09/2017 17:36

Most MNers are UK based and the UK has fiercely resisted the metric system, even though it is better.

Ooh can I join you all? I would love to lose a stone by Christmas. I'm currently 142lbs and 5' 5". I had cancer last year and the damn medication I'm on makes it so bloody difficult to shift anything but for me exercise is the key. I'm going to work out at the gym 3-4 times a week and log everything on MFP.

I like the idea of weighing on a Wednesday, I might join you posters doing that.

Sj10 · 11/09/2017 17:56

Me too! I had twins just before Christmas last year and want to get back to my original weight and 14lbs is about right! Bring it on!!

grounddown · 11/09/2017 18:31

Oh my gosh I've just put MFP on my phone, that's really motivational - Thankfully I've had quite a good day today but I didn't realise avocado was so calorific!
I need to lose 14 pounds by Xmas too so I'll be watching this thread and looking for tips. I've started doing exercise recently and am looking to get healthy and feel a bit more toned :)
I'm 5 ft 9 and not sure of my weight but probably about 12 stone ish. Feel best at 11 stone.

Silvertap · 11/09/2017 19:35

Had a rogue bear yo yo whilst doing the children's tea but apart from that I've stuck to my meal plan today.

Just need to avoid the crisp cupboard tonight! Bought myself some sparkling water to drink instead

OuchBollocks · 11/09/2017 19:57

Today came in at around 1800 cal, My TDEE is just under 1900 without taking breastfeeding into account. Tomorrow is a fast day, dinner will be cod fishcake and stir fry veg (250 cal), I will have a few cups of tea with milk (50 cal) so that leaves a decent 500 cal for lunch. Probably a mushroom omelette, salad and raspberries.

Xmasfairy86 · 11/09/2017 20:15

Today's meals;

B - oats, vanilla muller, blackberries, cherries and pomegranate seeds

L - tuna, and mixed bean salad, cheese, s&v rice cakes/crisp things

D - salmon, veg and sweet potato mash

Snacks - Apple, crisps, chicken, slice of kids pizza, biscuits. Lots of bloody biscuits. Peanut butter kit Kat.

Don't even wanna enter it on mfp 😂🙈

CountryGal86 · 11/09/2017 20:24

I'm in! Have managed to eat my way to being another stone heavier in the last two months!! How??

Anyhow... I now spin once a week and cycle to work (about 9 miles each way) three times weekly (fingers crossed for a dry spell)!

FireflyGirl · 11/09/2017 20:46

I've had a good first day, food-wise.

B: shreddies with almond milk, some grapes
L: Falafel salad with hummus and an oatcake (would have been more but I ran out of hummus), followed by a small bag of crisps and an apple.
D: cashew chicken and veggies with rice
S: a cereal bar and a small bar of dark chocolate

I'm within my calories on MFP, so I'm very pleased. It's been hard, though. I'm so used to snacking during the day, that's all I've wanted to do. I'm so proud that I resisted!

I'm out for tea on Saturday, but I'm hoping to still have a loss, and if so I'll treat myself to getting my nails done. Then I need to think of a treat for a 7lb loss.

Penguinbeaver · 11/09/2017 22:08

Ok. 5'3" currently 154pounds so 14 would be ideal. Done well first day with the mfp app

stealtheatingtunnocks · 12/09/2017 00:24

2 eggs scrambled for breakfast with a bit of strong cheddar
slice of rye bread and 2 carrots with hummus for lunch
handful of cashew nuts
3 plums and one apple
small portion of cauliflower cheese made with philly, full fat yogurt and cheddar.

Not enough, and, a bit heavy on the dairy. But, I'm snowed at work, and that's the best I could manage.

Apart from the fact there was no wine. Yay!

Katenka · 12/09/2017 06:14

This is quite exciting!

I had homemade beef stifado last night. No red wine in dhs recipes so that was healthy. Had it with salad and some fruit after.

Had a goid day yesterday and looking forward to getting weighed this week as i have been really sticking to it all week. Due my period though any day. So feel bloated. Which i hate. But proud of myself for not raiding the chocolate cupboard like i usually would Grin

SageYourResoluteOracle · 12/09/2017 06:30

Hello! Can I play please? Over 2 years, I lost - and kept off- 3 stone but this last bit is frustrating and the summer hols plus two weddings etc haven't helped.

I use MFP already but I now think I need someone to be accountable to. I also generally do Parkrun on a Saturday and then one other workout per week.

My stats:
Age 39
5'6''
12 stone 4lb
Size 10/12
I'm muscular & always weigh heavy for my height but would like to be within healthy BMI range.
