Calorie counting starts tomorrow (8th May). Lose a stone with me?

I managed to lose almost a stone due to illness over the new year, but have managed to put on 3 lbs since then. I really, really want to have lost a stone by the end of July (start of school holidays).

So I think that a stone in 11 weeks is definitely doable.

Anyone like to join me? I'm sticking to 1700 cals a day (I'm quite active), logging them on MyFitnessPal. I'm also aiming to do 3 lots of exercise per week (brisk walking/exercise DVD/swimming).

I'd quite like to weigh-in here too, to keep me motivated. So here goes: 11 stone 6lbs. Weigh-in again next Sunday?

Am I too late to join? I weighed in this morning at 12st exactly, I want to lose half a stone by my son's 1st birthday at the start of June, and be down to 10.5st by my holiday at the end of July. I'm annoyed with myself because I was 15st after giving birth and I managed to get down to 10.13 in Feb but then life got in the way and I piled it back on. I eat rubbish food when I'm tired or stressed and with a teething baby I'm usually both!
I've just downloaded MFP so hopefully that will help - I've had 1325 cals today but will try to limit myself to 1200 from now on.
Want to increase my exercise but not sure how as the baby limits my options a bit, I try to walk 8000 steps a day and do a baby sling dance class once a week but it doesn't feel like enough.

Kathrynnz123 · 08/05/2017 22:33

@TillyTheTiger I sometimes tried to do step ups when my daughter slept - I would do 10mins in 1 min lots Smile

jarviscockatiel · 08/05/2017 22:57

Please can I join too. I'm getting married in 3 months and would love to be a stone lighter. I'm currently a touch under 11 stone at 5'6''. I'm very active doing 8 gym classes, dancing 3 times a week and running at least twice a week so the only way I'll lose the weight is by moderating my eating. Hopefully joining this group will give me the motivation I need.

MrsJamesMathews · 08/05/2017 23:00

Jarvis are you sure that's not 11 stone of pure muscle?!

jarviscockatiel · 08/05/2017 23:04

Ha ha, I wish! Muscle doesn't wobble and hang unattractively over the waistband of your trousers. Grin

calzone · 08/05/2017 23:15

I'm in.

I lost 3 stone on sw but have plateaued massively so I'm doing a combination of sw5:2.

I'm fasting on Wednesday and Friday at 500 calories and counting calories sw style on the other days.

I'm really fed up that it's not shifting but I am trying.

I really need posts of food and calories please as I've never counted calories before.

Kathrynnz123 · 08/05/2017 23:30

So, I keep seeing posts about 5:2 and fasting with 500 calories - can someone explain the idea behind it for me please? A bit new to this lol....

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2017 06:23

Kathryn there's various plans that focus on intermittent fasting. 5:2 is basically 2 days a week having 500 calories and the rest eat normally.

I do Michael Moseley's blood sugar diet which I find much more effective than fasting. It's a low calorie, low carb, high fat diet. You have 800 calories a day, although I actually have up to 1000 a day, and usually don't calorie count at weekends. They key to it is the avoidance of heavy carbs (so no pasta, rice, grains, potato or sugar) and eating a high fat, Mediterranean style diet. I lost 21lb in 8 weeks the last time I did it, but the initial Weight losses are very motivating,

The reason for it is really to do with insulin control and T2 diabetes. Controlling the insulin in your bloodstream, controlling overeating carbs and sugar addiction. It's the best diet I've ever done in terms of being able to stick to it, and let's be realistic, we love getting quick results don't we? It's great in the summer too, as the foods are 'summer foods' I find. We have a long running thread in the 5:2 section if you want to come and find out more

userofthiswebsite · 09/05/2017 07:02

Day 1: 10st 4.2
Day 2: 10st 2.2

I know that's not 2lbs fat loss overnight; that's just dehydration from yesterday evening's exercise so it doesn't really count per se but nonetheless at least it's not gone up!

Need to find some inner strength today to eat less.
At least I eat all the cereal bars yesterday so there's none available to eat today

:-)

Tartle · 09/05/2017 07:46

Well I'm down 1lb since yesterday so something worked!

I feel like I'm really close to hitting ketosis. Might have another fast day and see if I can manage it. Does anyone do 2:5? I feel like I could do with saving up my calories for the weekend!

I will check out the blood sugar diet it does sound really good. Should probably also go to Tesco and get some actual food in the house!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2017 07:53

I think if I did 5 days at 500 calories I'd end up face first in the biscuit tin!

Tartle · 09/05/2017 07:55

That's basically how I seem to be spending the weekends anyway or facedown in a vat of gin so I feel the need to compensate!

myrosehasleftme · 09/05/2017 08:15

Userofthissite, haha I just weighed in 2lbs lighter too! Damn it dehydration I will now have to make sure I am similarly so next Monday weigh in!!

myrosehasleftme · 09/05/2017 08:17

I found with 5:2 I really couldn't control myself on non fast days so it never worked for me. General low calorie and lower carb does though (if I stick with it)!

MrsEricBana · 09/05/2017 09:29

Sorry I'm late but can I join too please! I am 9st 12 and I am small frame so too much weight in mid section. I would love to get and stay under 9st. Active lifestyle but no formal exercise, chocolate is my vice :-(
NEW us starts here!!

TillyTheTiger · 09/05/2017 09:54

Those on a low carb high fat diet, do you totally cut out fruit? I think I could cope without pasta, rice, bread and potatoes but when I'm on a diet I always snack on fruit, celery sticks don't really do it for me! What can you snack on?

Tartle · 09/05/2017 10:12

Avocados, cheese, nuts (careful!) few raspberries or blueberries with natural yoghurt. Ham or chicken pieces.

You basically want to aim for high fat snacks so there is actually loads of delicious stuff you can have once you get over the fat is bad thing.

My favourite snack is half an avocado filled with cream cheese and topped with ham or marmite or a bit of chorizo.

I cut out all fruit for 8 weeks first time I did it- but I did find I had a period of time after where I caught every single cough and cold going, I ended up with pleurisy! This time round I've had some fruit every day but only a few raspberries or strawberries.

summ3r15coming · 09/05/2017 12:21

I'm really late to the party - mind if I join?

I lost a shed load last year (due to extreme stressful/horrible situation) and then stayed very even at +/- 2lb around 9 st 5 for about a year. Recently it's starting to creep up and I was 9 st 13 yesterday. I'd like to get down to 9.

I tend to eat soup and yoghurt, with very little solids when I'm trying to lose weight.

TillyTheTiger · 09/05/2017 13:22

Hi summ3r, hope things are better now?

MissBel12 · 09/05/2017 13:28

Yes I started yesterday too! Finally went to the gym (after signing up in January and not even collecting my membership card!). Did a spinning class which nearly killed me, but determined to keep it up. Ate porridge for breakfast, salad for lunch, and a fairly healthy dinner. Grin

summ3r15coming · 09/05/2017 15:04

Thanks, Tilly. No - things are still really crap, but I'm over the shock now. Moving on!

surprise · 09/05/2017 15:40

Welcome all the newcomers! The more the merrier. Unfortunately that doesn't go for calories Smile. Already having a bad day. A 900 calorie lunch has left me with very little left to eat for the rest of the day. Off to do half an hour's penance on the treadmill. How's it going for the rest of you?

I had a good day. 5 mile walk, very healthy lunch and dinner.

Then 6 pieces of galaxy and a cake!
I think I'm still under 1200 calories though as I haven't eaten much today really..
